Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle match highlights

Match highlights of the 3-1 defeat at Manchester City for you now.

It’s the end of our unbeaten run now, which is a shame as there was a club record to be had. However the lads did us proud and went to Manchester City and caused problems for the Champions elect. I guess now we have to start another unbeaten run!

Personally I think it’s important not to get too downhearted by a defeat that was always likely to happen. The gulf in class between us and them is clear to see, but I guess that is what spending nigh on £500 million on players gets you.

We gave it a go and created more chances at the Etihad than any other team I’ve watched this season. I’m still annoyed about losing, but that is just the way I am and I dare say every football fan is the same.

We’re off to Old Trafford next and what I can say is that if we play with the same intent and purpose we could get something. We’ll need luck of course, but it could happen. Most importantly I’ve seen enough from this game, and in fact this season, to know that a push for 7th place should be on the cards.

Howay the lads!

  1. Gutted that we lost but hey it was away to the champions elect(imo) and it took 2 pens and a mistake for them to score and we created a few clear cut chances to score and on another day would have.
City deserved their win and good luck to them, we weren’t disgraced at all.Next!
    Howay the Lads.

  2. Beaten 3- 1, by a collection of the finest players on the planet. I can live with that without displaying the worst knee **** reaction as many have. Our players are good and make up an even better team. To suggest that our players were poor/invisible ignores the work they got through. Cabaye, Guthrie, Ben Arfa, Guti were all neat and tidy under immense pressure and Sammy surprised me with the quality of his close control. Saylor and Collo – and Simpson were excellent although Raylor obviously had a game he would rather forget. Having said that, I have seen much better players than him embarrassed by certain situations – let’s not bury him. Despite the scoreline I am somehow proud of the boys for their performance yesterday. Pundits are saying City weren’t at their best but give little credit to Toon for not allowing the blues to play in top gear.

  3. thought the scoreline was harsh on any other day we would have been two nill up and cruising but did not take the chances gutted but not that bothered because they are superior to our squad, we had a few injuries but no pundit should be attacking us or showing a lack of respect just like garf did on final score when he said he will respect us if we got something out of city. Pesonally i think he is talking ***** and we did us proud.

  4. I agree batty we really missed tiote and obertan. But we played well and alot of positives can be taken from yesterday. Ben arfa played.well and i think he will.cause teams problems this year

  5. Looks loke we will need to get used to having no Tiote. 20 million would cover our running costs for another year and a bit. Self sufficency is a wonderful thing. Hope Graham Carr has a replacement on the horizon. Tough boots to fill as I think Tiote is the best at his position in the premier league. Way better than Parker

  6. Funny you know yes we created chances and the highlights focus on City’s skill rather than our display, but you can’t help but see the gap in class. That’s one thing I like about the premiership things could have gone our way, and we could have got something out of the game, but to me they looked like they had a gear in reserve.

Looks good to build on. Will Raylor make way for Santon, probably not. Will Sammi make way for Obertan. Probably. Will Best replace HBA unlikely. The big question to me is Guthrie going to make way for Tiote. Don’t see why.

Looking forward to the next two games, “our first real test”.

  7. Here here Toby Tiote is indeed the best in the league at supporting the central defence and winning the ball and playing it simple and covers miles in a game and it is so annoying that if he does go we know that not a penny of the 20 mill or whatever it is will buy a player ..sad . 🙁

  8. I agree every player has a price under ashley but i would argue we will always have a player in mind to come in and improve the team as a whole.

  9. johno , if ashley continues to sell players for big bucks and replace them on the cheap and the team improves i would say hes not just a billionaire hes also a miracle worker … i dont think thats very likely .

  10. The result from yesterday doesn’t get me too despondent, because on another day we may have gotten something out of this game. It only goes to show the thin line between success and failure. With Tiote and Obertan in the side I’m sure we would have drawn or perhaps won the game. De Jong and Toure absolutely bossed the midfield in the first half, but with Mr T in there that wouldn’t have happened so easily yesterday.

Also got a feeling that Mancini gazumped Pardew with his tactics, cos from what I saw Richards spent the first half sitting on Raylors shoulder ffs, not sure where Jonas was when all that was going on, though City seemed to play round Jonas in the first half. Good tactics by Mancini at the end of the day, though he’s not the first manager to recognise that left back is our weakness.

It really goes to show that no matter how much money you spend, if you put in a shift you can get something from a game. A few weeks ago I watched FC Bayern ABSOLUTELY DESTROY the full star-studded Man City team in the Champs League. Bayern beat City at there own game, with which City beat us yesterday. They moved the ball around so quickly that City couldn’t get near them. We have maybe 2-3 of those types of players in our side, HBA and Tiote, Cabaye and perhaps Jonas, players who look comfortable on the ball when put under pressure.

Strangely enough I feel a kind of confidence heading to Old Trafford, cos with the right team we can surely get something. Apparently Swansea battered the red devils yesterday, but Man ure nicked a result. I can see us doing the same, a draw would be a great result. Then a win against Chelsea on the hill…get in there !!
