Game on! Newcastle v Chelsea

Back on home turf
Hello, and welcome one and all to what is likely to be an emotional ‘Game on’ article that takes us through every twist and turn of Chelsea’s visit to St James’ Park.

It’s an early start so well done for getting out of your pit, but there is good reason to be doing so as fans of NUFC get the chance to pay their respect to a modern great of Newcastle United, Gary Speed, who tragically passed away last weekend.

As you will all be aware of, a day of tribute was planned by the club including the singing of the famous Welsh hymn ‘Bread of Heaven’ and the holding up of cards in the East Stand that will depict the number 11 followed by a minute of applause in recognition of a player who represented the Black and White cause a total of 284 times. The full tribute will now not go ahead at the request of Speed’s wife as she would like to be in attendance although the minute of applause will still be observed.

Moving back onto the game, it won’t be easy, but it’s a game that we could win, if that makes sense? Basically I’ve read the views of some who seem to think that three points against Chelsea is a given. I don’t happen to follow that train of thought and think some are vastly underrating Chelsea on the basis of, by their standards, a poor run of form.

I don’t expect a win, but I do think we are capable of pulling off a victory. However I’m also mindful that Chelsea have quality that can hurt us all over the pitch and that it’s only a matter of time before they click and get a result. We must guard against any complacency and ensure that it doesn’t happen against us today!

In terms of match previews, once again Shamrock has provided another excellent, detailed preview which you can read by clicking here and whilst your at it why not take a gander at Ben’s take on the match by clicking here.

With the match being on Sky there are sure to be plenty of internet streams although I always urge caution when predicting the availability of them, even when technically there should be plenty knocking about. Luckily I’m at the match today along with Marktoon and Jay Jay so I don’t need one, but the rest of you guys do so if anyone happens to stumble across a decent one then why not hoy a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below and share it with your fellow NUFC fans?

That just about sums this particular article up now and it’s over to you guys to get the banter flowing. Keep your eyes peeled for my match report which I’ll get on as soon as I get back as it’ll be written from being at the game first hand, again. Hopefully I can write about us getting three points in the bag, again.

  1. BTW seriously admire Pardew for not just going for the draw like most managers would.

  2. well…doesn’t look like it’s gonna be our day… 🙁

Missed the first half, but what I’ve seen so far, compared to Chelseawe are a top four club…

  3. Man what a real pity we cannot take on Chelsea with a full side 👿

    Lampard is absolute gash….

  4. All i can say is we better give Norwich a good spanking next week cause i don’t think it’s gonna be our day lads.

  5. MM thats the thing mate we are giving them a good game without our full team

Arfa I think Raylor is doing ok in a position thats not his own, but I worry that we don’t have someone better than him for LB

  6. kimtoon….think you’re being a bit disrespective towards Norwich mate…

They’ll give us a much tougher game than Chelsea are giving us, that’s for sure…

  7. Big Dave he’s **** mate I’ve said before it’s Gutierrez who makes him look good when there’s no Jonas he looks as good as he is which is just poor. I don’t want to be horrible to the kid but he’s paid alot of money to do a lucky job along with the rest of them and that includes Pardew who shouldn’t have bought Santon if he isn’t good enough.

  8. Kimtoon…we aint gonna spank anyone with the reserve team we’re being forced into fielding… 🙄

  9. you gotta laugh at these commentators…everyone coming off is being “saved for Tuesday”….not that they have been gash, or ran out of stamina… 😆 😆

  10. Dont get downhearted lads. We have created more than enough chances against all 3 of the top established sides and have not been embarrased at all. The lads have had a tough run of fixtures and not let themselves down. Looking ahead there are some points to be won. We are in a great position coming into Christmas.

    😀

  11. Nice touch with the Alan Pardew’s black and white army by some of the crowd, the rest of the plastic fans have been abysmal today

  12. I say our 1st choice 11 would have took these today.
I just worry that winning is a habit and the longer we go without a win the harder it gets

  13. Stop saying they’re jammy or we’re unlucky…you lot forget last week? Everyone hates us for that bit of luck

      (Quote)

  14. Man……that was an absolute gash goal to concede. In my opinion Chelsea are absolute *****, I would have loved to put a nail in the trainers coffin…

  15. well we showed well for ourselves. THey should have been a man down for a vast majority of the game. We hit the woodwork 3 times, while Sammy could have put better power and/or placement on his shot and it wouldn’t have gotten cleared from the line.

Proud of the lads today, despite the scoreline

  16. Worst thing of all is the scum will be proper gloating after this , sh*t we falling apart now and the scoreline flatters em too.

      (Quote)

  17. Oh Sammy….stand up mate, you don’t need to tackle there…another gash goal for Chelsea 👿 👿 👿

      (Quote)

  18. OK a tad p*ss*d off now. No need to capitulate like that at the end. 👿

The Raylor argument is now over. He’s not good enough to hold the shirt in the long run, but still decent as back up.

  19. AndrewT @ 199 – Totally agree. Proud of the lads today. We are fighting with now many key players out. We hit the woodwork many times and the ref was absolutely horrid. Any other day we might have won 3-0, but there you go.

  20. Oh well, created chances, nae luck but we’ve had more than our fair share this season…….next!

  21. Maybe the occasion, and the lack of strength in depth caught up with us today. The luck which we have been carrying finally ran out today. Having said that a red card to Chelsea at the beginning of the game would have helped us for sure..

  22. colo and saylor both off injured, just hope there fighting fit for the next game..

well we have played the 3 top teams in the country, and we can hold our heads high the lads did us proud

      (Quote)

  23. Feel like we should of got a point, but we gave them far to many chances.
Mind you befors this 3 match run I said I,d be happy with a point from it, after last week started to believe we could get more though.

      (Quote)

  24. Dont know Dave. We spent enough money on the lad, it’s about time we saw what he can do. I understand not dropping players that are playing well, but it’s been a while since Raylor had a proper good game. He is clearly our weakest link…

      (Quote)

  25. how many times did we hit the woodwork today, 3 was it? luck running out. Lets see who’s fit for next week.

      (Quote)

  26. the plus side is that if liverpool and **** win we will go from 4th down to 6th which will hopefully make our ownder see that we are great when you have all your number 1’s out there but as soon as 2-3 go down we are a very ordinary and beatable side. It may stop him selling a big name.. but i doubt it lol lol

  27. Didnt deserve to lose 3-0 but chelsea deserved to win the game. Always a hard game this one, chelsea will end up as a top 4 team so it was never going to be a easy game.

  28. Shamrock maybe he wasn’t the bargain they thought he was, it just worries me that he can’t get a game 😕
As I said maybe this will show Jabba that we need players
