How about this Manchester City defender instead?

As some of you may have seen, we have been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Ivory Coast defender, Kolo Toure by the press.

For a fair number of reasons this just isn’t going to happen, which makes me wonder if the press actually take any notice of what goes on these days?

It’s just not going to happen. Firstly Kolo Toure is on HUGE wages and I very much doubt he’ll be willing to drop to a level that we would pay. I did hear a rumour that he was on something like £220,000 a week but I don’t know how true it is. Secondly there is age to consider. Toure will be 31 in March which is far and away from the type of player Newcastle are trying to sign. Remember, only players who can improve in future and all that shizzle.

In short it will be hard for any club to sign a player from Manchester City, especially one that is, or was, a key figure in their first team due to the wages they are being paid. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t players that can be brought in from the Etihad however as there are stil some cracking players to be had.

Take Nedum Onuoha for example. A solid player who is a perfectly able Premier League player who, unfortunately, has been left behind by the improvement in quality of the squad at Manchester City. Players like him would be ideal for us at this present moment in time.

Onuoha can play right across the defence which would help us out tremendously at the moment. He has Premier League experience and is still only 25-years-old so is just approaching what should be the peak of his career. Does he want to waste those years being sat on the fringes at Manchester City? Or does he want to be playing football? If it’s the latter then why not a move to Newcastle?

I know he played for the unwashed last season, but that was just a temporary switch and with a couple of weeks in a decontamination chamber we could soon get rid of the stench of cheesy chips and trampy blue pop that will have festered on him during his time on Wearside.

You see there is nothing to substantiate my interest in Onouha. It’s been a while since we’ve been linked with him so it’s nothing that has been in the press that has got me thinking about him. All I did do was look a bit deeper and a bit more logically than the press have done and found a realistic to solution to a very real problem using some well known facts about Newcastle.

So If I can do it, why can’t they?

  1. Onuoha would be an excellent addition!
Strong in the air and really fast.
Reminds me of Micah Richards. But better at defending.
Young, English and Hungry. Fits the criteria except for the French part.

  2. I think the press are just guessing.

Pardew and the board have been really good at keeping our transfers secret so far which is why I NEVER believe anything in the press – even sky sports until I see a player holding a toon shirt with Del boy.

This is why i still don’t believe we have Maiga from Sochaux. (I’m not saying we won’t)

Expect the unexpected at this club.

I don’t expect we’ll win the league… get in!!!!!

    This story about Toure? Bollocks!

  3. The question is how desperate is Kolo wanting first team football!?!?!?!? Maybe Tiote has had a word in his ear!! Imagine Colo & Kolo as our defence!! 😯

  4. Anyone remember the tale that Brian Clough used to take his younger players down the pit – just to help them appreciate the reality of the world of ordinary folk.

What’s that got to do with Onuoha’s loan spell at Blunderland? There’s no doubt he’d have learned about life on football’s dark side and appreciated that it’s not a bed of roses!

    🙄

  5. Bloody hell! linked with Kolo Toure? where’d u read that Toonsy?

Think we must have considered Onuoha in the summer surely and decided against it – no idea why like, he seemed to do pretty well for the mackems last year and he’s probably a better option than Williamson

      (Quote)

  6. On Onuoha (on onuoha doesn’t really role off the tongue 😕 ) – This suits us down to the ground but as in my last post – when have we ever got what we wanted? 😉

  7. M – Quite a few places. The Mail being one of them 😆

Ice posted a link to somewhere else last night aswell. Can’t remember who it was

      (Quote)

  8. Bang on the money again toonsy…he played well for the MB’s last year and is not doubt a quality player…and a player that would improve what we have at right back and better than anything else we have in the middle on the basis S Taylor is out for this season and colo is out for a month.

He’s a right back who can turn his hand to just about anything across the back so we hope has to be very close to the top of any list Pardew is putting together.

and what’s the problem with Santon…does anyone know the crack with this one???

  9. Fair enough toonsy couldn’t mind but didn’t think that he stood out but steady is all u need suppose

      (Quote)

  10. Matty – All about opinions 😉

I personally think it’s harder to look steady in a shower of ***** team like theirs 😉

  11. Good player, he may be in your mind because Dan’s mentioned him about 3,456 times over the last few days 😆
One worry would be his injury history altough he seemed ok last year with the scum, so hopefully he’s over that.

  12. what a dooley… 😆

This might sound a bit racist (i assure you i don’t mean it that way) but i thought it was toure in the pic and he’s just had a shave. I’m obviously **** with remembering faces. I thought you referencing the ‘man city defender’ as kolo toure.

    Howay… easy mistake to make… fckers 😆

      (Quote)

  13. you’re getting the wages mixed up with the toures. yaya is on the monster money not kolo. onuoha is good but the assumption above that he is a better defender than richards is a long way off the mark. as a city fan i’d want to keep him especially if kolo is off to psg. good luck for the rest of the season, would love to see city, le toon and the spuds destroy the old ‘big 4’ myth.

      (Quote)

  14. @nobby lol get yourself to specs4u when youre in west denton m8.. 😆

I’d take Onuoha, excellent defender. I hate seeing young players wasting their talent at clubs like city.

He might not be wanted after causing a fuss with Cook regarding the letter to his mother..Not that it was his fault in any way.

      (Quote)

  15. Tublu…They’re probably all on monster money compared to what NUFC pay 🙁 ….they would get all the free Sports Direct vouchers they could eat here though 😉

      (Quote)

  16. Tublu – I heard Kolo was on silly money aswell.

anyway, its a moot point. If he’s on anything more than 40k we won’t pay it anyway 😆

      (Quote)

  17. Firstly the fact that most City fans want to keep Onouha should say something about him and a few years ago they were rating him much higher than Richards and at 25 the £1m-3m you would pay for him is much less than the £5-6m he’s easily worth. Great player at the price and the only reason he would be leaving is because he fell out with Mancini, his wages wont be to high either as he is still on a pre-take over contract. Steve ‘excuse’ Bruce did himself no favours at Sunderland by giving Utd a fortune for all their pxss poor rejects, he would have done much better by signing Onouha. Somebody’s gonna get a bargain , believe me!

      (Quote)

  18. I still can’t believe i couldn’t get 2 seats together in the Gallowgate for the swansea game, what’s the world coming to when crowds didn’t drop to 40k or lower like many predicted 😆

      (Quote)

  19. Why would Kolo move from Arsenal if it wasn’t for big wages. Of course he’s on monster wages as well.
Will never in a million years sign him.

  20. Richie, the last two games have been like the Robson era for tickets. My mates coming back up for Christmas and coming to the Swansea game and had to order his ticket like last month!

Be surprised if it’s like that for the Westbrom game though, it’ll be baltic 😆

      (Quote)

  21. Alan…He signed a 5yr deal the year after the takeover so would he not be on fairly decent money comparatively speaking, mind that’s from the ever unreliable “Wiki” so apologies if it’s wrong.

Ref Bruce, he’s clueless but I reckon 5under1and should have given him at least another 5 years to complete his mission 😈

      (Quote)

  22. Jeezuz Richie – I didn’t realise he’d been assigned to take them all the way to the Conference!! 😆

      (Quote)

  23. Dan…It’s been 18-20c here the last few days, so I suspect it’s gonna feel baltic for me regardless 😕

  24. TC…..I didn’t want them to be without derby games so thought he could pit his wits against Boro then Hartlepool, Gateshead then darlo

  25. Surprising, usually even when it’s close to full it’ll be our area that’s bear.

It’s going to be a good week or so; Swansea, Westbrom, Christmas than Bolton away on Boxing day

  26. Unfortunately I have to do the family bit as well when I’m over so won’t be able to make Bolton, mind after the last time i’m fecking glad…..I blame Jay Jay the jinx 😛

  28. Richie – I used to have my season ticket in L6B, My last game there was against sheffield united, absolutely forgettable game but the atmosphere was mint as we had been promoted. I think we won 2-1.

I sit in L1C now. I paid the bit extra for a good view but the atmosphere is poo with the prawn sandwich eaters. Even with the brilliant view though i still can’t tell the difference between guthers and cabaye. 😆

I think the best crack is up in strawberry corner for atmosphere.

  34. Off Topic:

I’ve just been having a cup of coffee (Carte Noir Espresso – if you’re interested) and thinking about our Hatem Ben Arfa connundrum.

This lad has got skill, Chelsea new this the other day and everytime he was on the ball he’d have 3 players on top of him and half the time he’d manage to wriggle free of them with a bit of fancy footwork but sometimes he’d do a complicated manouvre when a simple pass would have been the better option. We’ve all noticed it and obviously we’ve come to the conclusion that he’s ‘trying to hard’.

With this in mind our beloved Benny is going to have to score sooner rather than later just to take some pressure off of himself. I believe once he gets this goal it’s going open a set of flood gates and a torrid of goals and assists are going to come flooding in.
He’s happy, we’re happy cue McFadden & Whitehead – ‘Ain’t no stopping us now’

      (Quote)

  35. Nobby, I think Ben Arfa will be at his most effective away from home where he will get more space, at home even the likes of Chelsea like you say know he’s our main threat and is surrounded by players.

      (Quote)

  36. Benny will never get to play well as long as we’re employing or usual 8-1-1 system. It’s the only reason we’ve had a good defence, unbelievably containing Simpson and Raylor, two of the worst full backs in the league.
When Benny gets the ball he’s usually on the half way line, back to goal, no one near him and the wingers near our corner flag plus three midfielders snapping at him. To get the best out of HBA we need 2 new proper full backs!

      (Quote)

  37. Why do the prawn sandwich eaters not sing? Is supporting the team as a Geordie sitting there and keeping quiet. I got moved from level 7 right next to the away fans, to the strawberry (poo) corner now the back of the gallowgate(also poo).

      (Quote)

  38. Toonsy – think you should lay off the Benny bashing. Some may be too enthusiastic, like me, but it’s almost like you don’t want him to do well.

      (Quote)

  39. When I first heard the rumours of us being interested in a Citeh defender, I though of young Nedum straight away. Would be a fantastic signing… which means we won’t get him 👿
    We’re allowed to hope.
    HWTL!

  40. Joe

My point about the prawn sandwhich eaters is that they’re either a bunch of ‘rah’s’ or they’re old blokes who can’t be arsed.

I love singing but sometimes a feel like a pleb when i’m singing and no ****** else is so i end up sitting down after 2 seconds.

The thing about the youth up on level 7 is they’re the opposite end of the spektrum… irritating? yes.. definately, but needed as they give good grief to the away support. I couldn’t be up there though, i wouldn’t be able to see anything. actually saying that i wouldn’t need to say anything. everyone in level 7 doesn’t actually watch the game they just stand looking to their left giving greif 😆

I genuinely prefer the atmosphere in the gallowgate as you get to sing AND watch the game, i just wish there was a bit of atmosphere where i sit. plus points are that it’s a good view of the game and i’m close enough the pardew to give my tactical advice 😆

  42. Nobby – Think it was a comment I made last night about fans having huge expectations of him based purely on a reputation. We’ve been here before with players… Just saying give the lad time and don’t expect too much of hum yet, plus the TEAM seems to play better with Leon Best in it.

As for not wanting him to do well…. There are literally dozens of articles written by me purring over him so thats just not the case at all.

      (Quote)

  43. Afternoon Zoë, regarding your request last night for people to let you know which of the articles you’ve written they consider the best 3. I’ve just checked the competition out and you’ve got another two months left, so you’ll probably have more articles by then. Anyway, the best three for me so far are…

    https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2011/12/03/all-out-of-luck-newcastle-0-3-chelsea/

    https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2011/11/30/the-rock-solid-foundation-of-nufc/
(I’d change “could of” to “could’ve” in the 4th paragraph though)

    https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2011/11/24/how-do-we-effectively-combat-manchester-united/
(there’s a rogue ‘a’ in the final paragraph)

You’ve got a bit of variety in there with those three as well I.E. a match report, a squad analysis that shows your knowledge of the game and a game strategy article.

I would’ve included your article on NUWFC, just because it’s different, but it’s pretty much just questions and answers. There are my thoughts anyway Zoë.

You might want to edit down your articles though, as the copy limit for the competition is 800 words, and they’re all over. You can use this to check:

    http://www.wordcounttool.com/

…by the way, the link for anyone else who wants to give Zoë feedback is:

    …she’s entering this:

  45. That’s a fair comment if you ask me Toonsy.

The ronnie gill seems to be pointing to Kadar to play this weekend.

I think this is good news, and (no disrespect to norwich) this is a team where you’d rather him ‘test the water’ in the premier league. You never know he could play a blinder and colo will be fighting for his place 😉

What I’m saying is the silver lining to a first team playing getting injured is that your fringe players get some vital experience.

I think this match coming up wil be a brilliant game to analyze! Looking forward to it!
