Game On! Bolton v Newcastle

Welcome to Bolton
Are we all feeling suitably stuffed after the festivities of yesterday? Well hopefully the only stuffing we’ll be reflecting upon later is that of Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

To be honest I’ve gone beyond wanting a stuffing. A scrappy 1-0 win courtesy of an own goal will do for me as it will end a run of six games without victory which has put our great start to the season in jeopardy.

However it won’t be easy and the first goal will be important. It was evident against West Brom when they scored first. Prior to that we looked confident and never really looked in any danger of losing but once Peter Odemwingie put the Baggies ahead we started to lose that bit of confidence and ended up chasing things which if course suited West Brom.

Today will be much the same in my opinion. Bolton may have got a positive result against Blackburn in midweek but prior to that they went through an awful run that saw then planted near the foot of the table. Confidence will still be lacking from Owen Coyle’s men and a goal against them will set the alarm bells ringing once more. Consequently the reverse is also true and if Bolton score first they’ll gain more confidence.

Anyway, that is enough of a preview from me! Why? Simple really. Shamrock has once again written a most excellent preview which you can view here which you can then follow up on by reading a bit of a stat-attack from our resident statto here.

As far as a stream goes, I’m hopeful of finding one although you can never be certain of finding a reliable stream. What I will say is that it is being broadcast on quite a few overseas channels so the chances of finding one are fair to moderate. If you do stumble across one then why not share it with the rest of us?

That just about wraps this festive ‘Game On’ feature up and now it’s over to you guys to get the banter and chit-chat flowing.

Howay the lads!

  1. Aye, we probably could do better but he is a decent squad player.

Thought you we’re going to stop anyway?

  2. Ok. So we play HBA on the wing. Which side? Do we allow effectively a free run at Raylor or Simpson?

People spend too much time playing Football Manager 🙂

  3. Christ i thought Obertan was our main concern but reading these comments looks like Best and Jonas AND Tiote are on thin ice . What the hell is up with em, they was all playing out their skins afew weeks back. Just shows what a run of losses does for team moral .Pards is gonna have to put Benny on and take a chance on sameobi in place of Oba.

  4. Why doesn’t Toonsy consider my suggestion. 👿 Play Jonas on Right,Obertan sub off. Shane on left wing. No need for ben arfa at wing.

  5. toonsy – we shouldn’t be playing the winger who’s best at defending! If that’s the case we need to concentrate on buying better full backs.

  6. in the right or left wing, that’s doesn’t matter he can track back and defend a little bit. Obertan doesn’t track back so much and if you wanna win you need to attack more than you defend.
And as i sayed before i was sure no change until the 70 minutes if we stayed at 0-0 because Pards happy with that and at the end he will say I’m happy with my defense and we was unhappy to score..

  7. Stu @ 160 – Weeeeey, we got there in the end. Does anyone think that Ben Arfa on the wing has not been thought about? Perhaps there is little confidence in Raylor or Simpson to go about their work without a bit of help? 😉

AOD – I read it. That is one option 🙂

  8. Just seen a bright light on the sidelines. Unsure whether it was Ben Arfa’s halo or the sun shining out of his ****? 😕 😯

  9. Spence 😛

To be fair I think he’s been good for us this season. Nowt amazing but he crosses better than Obertan and probably Jonas.

  10. you see the difference between our wingers and a good winger( Petrov) one class control he eliminates and a good cross..

  11. Who is this Lancashire ****** commentating? Saying it’s a short distance for NUFC fans on Boxing Day? Only the longest away trip today like but nevermind. ****.

  12. We’re not going to go and buy new full backs so we need to concentrate on wingers who can run with the ball and create somethin, not one who can defend.

  13. one article 2 days ago says the left back of Bolton is very poor and even he has Petrov who never tracks defensively but at the end Obertan or SImpson was never dangerous offensively.. so…

  14. Howard Webb just dropped a ******* at stadium of *****,given a pen that never was to Everton and Baines just leveled the score ,ha ha ha : 😀

  15. How has Jonas escaped criticism. I am sick to death of him. Garbage winger. He is a bench player at most.

  16. Toonsy-I’d agree with you that Vuckic isn’t a winger…but how many times have you seen him play there?

Joey Barton isn’t a winger. Wasn’t he was voted our best player last year? Just a thought like.

  17. agree with you newkie. Its very easy you cannot be dangerous offensively or create one action with one player in the four that is dangerous. I jusst CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW BEST IS IN THE PITCH STILL NOW

  18. Does anyone wish Jose wasnt a money grabbing goof? Jonas has not looked the same since we lost him!

  19. We seriously need something out of this ,away to the bindippers next and can’t stand the thought of Carrol getting one against us.

      (Quote)

  20. Obertan has done more in this 2 actions than in the last 5 or 6 games. A good cross and a shot in the target

      (Quote)

  21. Sorry… all those saying obertan is playing **** needs to screw their head on… him and tim krul have been our best players so far.

I agree that best isn’t having a good game though… his control isn’t his best.

  22. The consistent picking of players who are clearly out of form reminds me of Hughton….

Just as I write this he brings Benny on! 😆

      (Quote)

  23. Spence @ 202 he wouldn’t need to do much to be better than the player he replaced, and some wondered why he didn’t get into a sh1te republic side 😆

  24. He cant play when we are playing pin ball like, this long ball is frustrating as anything!
