Game On! Bolton v Newcastle

Welcome to Bolton
Are we all feeling suitably stuffed after the festivities of yesterday? Well hopefully the only stuffing we’ll be reflecting upon later is that of Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

To be honest I’ve gone beyond wanting a stuffing. A scrappy 1-0 win courtesy of an own goal will do for me as it will end a run of six games without victory which has put our great start to the season in jeopardy.

However it won’t be easy and the first goal will be important. It was evident against West Brom when they scored first. Prior to that we looked confident and never really looked in any danger of losing but once Peter Odemwingie put the Baggies ahead we started to lose that bit of confidence and ended up chasing things which if course suited West Brom.

Today will be much the same in my opinion. Bolton may have got a positive result against Blackburn in midweek but prior to that they went through an awful run that saw then planted near the foot of the table. Confidence will still be lacking from Owen Coyle’s men and a goal against them will set the alarm bells ringing once more. Consequently the reverse is also true and if Bolton score first they’ll gain more confidence.

Anyway, that is enough of a preview from me! Why? Simple really. Shamrock has once again written a most excellent preview which you can view here which you can then follow up on by reading a bit of a stat-attack from our resident statto here.

As far as a stream goes, I’m hopeful of finding one although you can never be certain of finding a reliable stream. What I will say is that it is being broadcast on quite a few overseas channels so the chances of finding one are fair to moderate. If you do stumble across one then why not share it with the rest of us?

That just about wraps this festive ‘Game On’ feature up and now it’s over to you guys to get the banter and chit-chat flowing.

Howay the lads!

  1. Also shout out to Williamson! They would’ve have troubled us a lot more arially if he hadnt have been there. Glad to have the big fella back.

  2. Aw MA fork and god!

    How good were those goals?!

    Prove me wrong please! Please!

I’ve predicted that we would end up with mediocrity under Ashley and still hold that view.

But, we are 7th and the second half was good and promising.

    Cooooooooome on!!

  3. ST – People can say a player is ****. It doesn’t bother me. Give em a chance first is my point 😉

In the case of Obertan 14 games is not a chance IMO.

Look at Colo and Jose. ***** for a while season and in the end people can’t stop ******* them. Perspective 😉

Absolutely. Give Oba a chance. 14 bloody games !

I think despite the criticism, his head has never dropped and he did well today and never hid.
That is the sign of a potential winner!

There’s only one position for HBA for me and that’s a striker.

He’s got too much striking ability to put on the wing or midfield.

    Took his goal fantastically.

He needs time, patience and nurturing. Pardew has the ability to do do it.

He needs bringing on as a sub for a few more games UNLESS Pards thinks different .

  6. Both teams were dire in the first half, it was like watching paint dry and was frustrating to watch as no one looked like they were capable of getting a foothold, even though we looked the better side.

The ref stopped the game far too much and it was usually if one of our players brushed past one of theirs.

It was fine for their players to do Karate kicks and leap frogs over our players backs though because that didn’t even warrant a foul.

Oh and Batty, maybe you might have a bit more optimism about you now eh, we have 3 points from those 3 games you said we would get nothing from, so 2 games to go and who knows eh.

  7. Troy , here here. Up top is the only place for benny imo.
Although I think he shoul start now a class act .

  8. KEITH, I’m sure if Pardew thinks he’s worth a start, he will get a start. In my opinion, Pardew is easing him back in rather than throwing him in.
Remember, he isn’t up to full match fitness because to me , he’s not getting reserve game time in case he gets injured or breaks down, so training will gain his certain fitness and easing him into games will gain him the required fitness to complete a match.
When he’s ready for that, I’m sure he will get his game time as anyone knows, he’s quality but his quality only counts long term if his mind and fitness are strong.

  9. How much is Ba worth? – if we’d paid £20 million for him I doubt there would be many complaining – well done Pardew and Carr

Demba Ba has 21 goals in 25 premier League starts. He’s statistically the most prolific striker in the history of the Premier League.

£110m worth of “talent” Andy Carroll, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez have 21 goals in 2011, £0m Demba Ba has 20 goals.

Waits for the “we will sell him in January or the summer” quotes – if we do he is going to cost £35 million plus 😆

  10. Funny enough wolfie I don’t agree with u ha , if he can play 50 60 mins he can play 90 he would not be on bench if not fit he needs to play imo , 1 day we will agree ha .

  11. KEITH, there is a difference between being just fit and being match fit.
Many players who aren’t fully match fit often get benched and come on because they have a good 30 minutes in them.
All players can play 90 minutes but if not match fit, they then play 30 of those minutes looking fatigued and that can cost you.
Look at Williamson today, he looked knackered 20 mins before the end even though we aren’t tested that much.
We got away with it because we weren’t tested and he actually well.
