Game On! Newcastle v Blackburn – Abeid and Ben Arfa start

FA Cup action from St James' Park
Welcome one and all to this special FA Cup edition of our ‘Game On’ articles which will take us through this afternoons 3rd Round tie against Blackburn at St James’ Park.

Fans who make the trip to SJP today will be in fine fettle after the midweek demolition of Manchester United and will no doubt be eyeing another win.

However the magic of the FA Cup has often deserted us since the halcyon days of the 1950’s and more often than not we’ve been left wanting in our pursuit of some silverware. Granted we’ve made the final a couple of times, but for every high there has been one or two lows to accompany it. Hereford….. Stevenage….. The 5-1 home defeat to Steve Bruce’s Birmingham City….. You get the point.

Standing in our way today are Blackburn Rovers – a team I dislike more than many others purely down to their party-pooping habits. I can’t help but feel that this game has the all the makings of being one of those ‘after the lord mayor’s show’ kind of affairs although as ever I remain hopeful of a win and a safe and smooth progression through to round four.

I suggest you check out Shamrock’s pointed most excellent match preview which offers everything from stats to history to some tactical thoughts ahead of the game. His previews really are a must read!

In terms of TV streams I have some bad news. The match is not scheduled for overseas broadcasting so getting hold of a stream may prove to be a little bit tricky. The coverage of the “most famous cup competition in the world” is pretty shocking to be fair unless there is a chance of an upset or it’s a clash between two of the “big hitters” like Manchester City and Manchester United. Consequently if you do stumble across a stream on your internet travels please feel free to leave a link to it and share it with your fellow black and white brothers and sister.

That just about sums it up from me. Team news is featured below and will be updated as and when I manage to get hold of it so as a result you may just see the first teams up for a bit whilst I scrabble about trying to get hold of the substitutes or something like that. Don’t panic though, they will be there in full well before kick-off!

Howay the lads!

  6. Richie there was a few that wanted him dropped and said he does fuk all and has no end product, and good for him he has got a goal for all the work he does, so in my book he deserves it as there is no one else puts more in than him 😉

  10. OH well what do you expect you have to advertise it instead of advertising Beer in your avatar, Moonshine would do a better job.
Can your Bros not get you a good job ? sure is that not one of the benefits of being one 😆 or is it just a bend over club 😀

  11. Two great goals won it for us! Great goal from Arfa.

Gotta be honest though, how many great chances did we miss? It really should have been 7-1!

Best poor in my opinion and Arfa should play on the right on Sunday.

  12. I really hope we beat QPR, just to put them closer to relegation, and make Barton go down twice in three years… The superstar he is and all.
Club with ambition and all that!!!

  15. Just got back from the game there, Ben Arfa’s goal was world class…One of the best goals I’ve seen as well. That was the worst game i’ve seen Obertan have, the only way the boos will stop is if he doesnt play. Ben Arfa needs to play on the right handside from now on.

  18. Terrible first half and terrible atmosphere, other than that it was good. I never boo them off but it’s understandable why people did it IF you were actually there. What a goal by Ben Arfa though. Obertan well I thought he was ok he just didn’t look fit at all and got a bit stick for not whipping it in but no-one was really in the box when he got there to cross so I didn’t get the stick he got. Santon was absolutely amazing, man of the match by far. Williamson getting back to fitness, actually playing more balls to feet which was nice to see

  19. ARMY ime ok m8,would be better if we signed someone expecting nowt like.
that must have been a treat seeing them

  20. billy whatss boo’n do for the team tho?? i can never undertsand boo’in mate , you go to the match to support the team and give them your full support

      (Quote)

  21. Army he scores it from the right, when he plays right wing its not you that said never he cannot play in the right wing..?

      (Quote)

  22. Army69 @359 I’m not saying people should do it or I did, but the only thing I can think is that it makes the over paid prima donnas realise that the first half performance was no where near good enough. We were going through the motions. Blackburn set up so defensively and were without Samba and Hoilett, and dictated the first half. It was embarrassing, and it was our full strength team.

Everyone is entitled to voice their opinion at half time or full time but I just don’t agree with one player getting abuse, Obertan got a few wey heys when he went off, like I said though he didn’t look fit and was putting less effort in than most.

  23. Lads as I have said before I don’t agree with booing our own, but I understand why they might.
I have never heard of a player that gives their all getting booed.
Andrew I don’t think that the only way he won’t get booed is if he doesn’t play I think if he gave his all and actually looked as if he was interested and trying it wouldn’t be as bad.
I have asked this loads of times but no one has ever answered but I will ask again, when a player scores or does well and gives his all he gets a big lift from the support and applause they get from the Fans, which is how the fans show the players their appreciation ??
So if the Fans arn’t happy with a player and feel they should be giving more how do the fans let that player know ????.
The players are getting paid in a week what lots of fans earn in a yr so I don’t think a bit of stick of the fans that are paying their wages is really that bad, and maybe if it’s too bad for them maybe they arn’t strong enough characters for the Toon

  24. I agree big dave I’m not a boo-er but it’s daft when people sit on here slagging our fans off for booing when they didn’t even go

      (Quote)

  25. Excellent result, we’re back in business..for now 😀

    Bring on the Bartonless Rangers..

Booing? disgusting! no place for it, especially St James. they should be ashamed.

  26. Billy I don’t think not going to the game stops you from having an opinion.
But if a player plays with his heart and gives his all the Fans see that and he will be treated almost like a God. But if they think a player isn’t giving enough they are within their rights to express that opinion. If the player doesn’t like it there is an easy solution try a lot harder and give it their all the fans will soon see it

“So if the players arn’t happy with a player and feel they should be giving more how do the fans let that player know ????.”

thats the manager job m8, we’re their to support not put unwanted pressure on a player. Booing does no good what-so-ever.

I’m sure if Marv was fit Ober wud of been rested but we have to get on with it and support him.
