Toon table improved offer for Morrison (+ videos of him in action!)

Ravel Morrison lifting the FA Youth Cup
Newcastle have tabled a new and improved £1 million offer for Manchester United youngster Ravel Morrison according to reports in The Independent and the Daily Mail.

It was reported yesterday that a bid of £500,000 had been turned down by the Red Devils as they felt that the value of the bid and of any subsequent sell on clause was too low. It remains unclear whether or not Newcastle’s latest bid is enough to tempt Manchester United into a sale however.

As I said yesterday, the lad is very highly rated at Manchester United and they don’t really want to lose him. But with his contract expiring in the summer it appears that Alex Ferguson is ready to try and make some cash on a player who has a history chequered with disciplinary problems.

He has been described as the best prospect at Old Trafford by Gary Neville while others have likened him to Ryan Giggs when he was younger. However he once sulked off when not picked for a reserve game and revealed is frustration on Twitter after being sent to the dressing room. Not only that but he was fined and given a rehabilitation order after being found guilty of two counts of witness intimidation.

He clearly has a bad side, but is his potential worth us taking a punt on him? Someone at United (the real one, not the phoney one from Manchester) seems to believe so which is why we’re obviously not dropping our interest.

Now I’m going to go all Dennis Wise on you now and show you some video clips of him in action as a response to some of the comments yesterday from people who haven’t seen him in action. The first one is from Manchester United v Crystal Palace and the second one (quality is a bit ropey!) is from the FA Youth Cup Final from last season so have a look and see what you can pick up.

Ravel Morrison Vs Crystal Palace from Jenks on Vimeo.

From those videos I’ve noticed a few things. He seems to find space easily and is always available for the ball. He has a good range of passing and has the vision and awareness to be able to pick out a pass, and he knows how to find the back of the net. I can see why he is rated so highly by the Manchester United coaching staff.

Worth a punt for £1 million? I’d say so!

  1. Not sure why we would want him tbh, talented maybe but troubled and with almost no first team experience. I’d wait til the summer and try to get a freebie, if he chooses to go elsewhere then he can’t have wanted to come here that much anyway..

  2. Cornish I think we would still have to pay a fee for him regardless of him been out of contract due to his age , I could be wrong , but I vaguley remember Chelsea having to pay a fee for Daniel Sturidge and I think he was out of contract , think youth players are different in terms of bosmans. I honestly havent seen much of him , I did se him against Palace in the league cup and I dont remember him doing much but a few of my man u mates say he is good and a real prospect. Be very concerened about his off field antics though

  3. Eh? Hes a very young lad and he’s been nothing worse than petulant.
Ok. He’s got a referral order for witness intimidation. I’m not condoning this but it can’t have been serious stuff if he only got a referral order.

You can’t just ignore good talent cos they are petulant. 🙄

Did you watch the video? Looks very good to me and better than all 3 of your choices.

  6. Really not fussed about Morrison to be honest like. Would much prefer us bolstering the CB and ST positions… Alot of inaccurate shots on goal in those videos… Yeah he looks good at getting into good positions but he also looks good at wasting those opportunities.

  7. If it’s just petulance and Man Utd rate him as one of their very best prospects then why is he leaving? No kid in their right mind would blow the opportunity to mske it at one of best and most established elite sides in world football.

If he’s not motivated to behave and apply himself at the club he allegedly supports, then why would he do so for us?

Not convinced by this move if it is pulled off. He’s only a prospect at the moment… We dont even know if he can cut it consistently at 1st team level and by the sounds of it, he does not fit the team mentality we are building either….

It’s not like they are spending the CB cash on this lad. We are talking less than a million who could end up being a great player worth much more.

Never mind the missed chances, he scored 2 goals. 😯

Wow! Are you wanting him to score with every shot? 😯

  11. Haha – somone on Twitter has posted a rumour that young Ravel twokked Rio’s watch from the MUFC dressing room. 😆 😆 😆

  12. @Troy Stavers

I just can’t see why it’s worth us bothering. Yeah we might get him on the cheap but I still don’t see our improved bid of £1m being accepted. I reckon Fergie would accept about £1.5-£2m and that could be spent elsewhere.

Not even Ba scores with every shot but what I meant was that if that video is his “greatest hits” of his career so far, then why does it look like a video full of wasted opportunities?
Usually people slate videos of players saying “Oh that’s just his best moments put all together in one video to make him look better”…

      (Quote)

  13. @WhyCabayeMan

    That’s not his greatest hits – that’s 2 videos from 2 games.

As much as I hated GNev the player, you can’t argue that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, so if he rates him, that’s good enough for me.

  14. @WCM

You are predicting what MU will want and that we would pursue him at that price? 😯

We can only go off what’s been bid and what’s been rejected.

We know £500k has been turned down and an improved offer has been made.

Is he worth a bid of less than £1m? The Toon seem to think so.

Is he worth £2.5m like you predict MU will want. Probably not and the Toon will likely think not as well.

Deal with the current situation instead of predicting what will happen. 😯

    Well worth it . 😛

But we are talking less than a million for a player who is clearly a talent and is only going so cheap cos he’s at the end of his contract.

  18. Toonsy from the video clips I’d have to agree with your closing line. This kid has talent and other than the witness intimidation stuff, is he really a bad boy? he threw a huff for being dropped, big deal!. He’s 17 and at 1-2m seems like a safe risk, it’s not huge money and if he comes and starts being a clown we can shift him.
But he looks quick, can pick that pass that gets people in behind defenders and I think this kid and HBA in the same time would definitely create goals.
If we can get him in for £1m – bargain IMO

      (Quote)

  19. @TC

You love being on my side don’t you., 😛

Come round mine today and we can do the Pippa’s workout together. 😛

  20. Troy – The money doesn’t actually bother me, if the Toon thought he was worth a punt at 2m then fair enough who am I to argue. The problem that I have is he has REAL evidence of being a ****. Witness intimidation is not to be sniffed at.

I’d be worried he’d rock the boat and cause issues in our youth set up.

      (Quote)

  21. Greetings Troy and how’s Mrs Troy? Has she acknowledged your behaviour’s normal yet? Does she not know that most folk live in laundry baskets and if not, maybe you should encourage her to get out more!

  22. @EvilF

Do you know the circumstances of the witness intimidation. ?

As I’ve said, I’m not condoning it but it could actually be something minor based on the fact he only got a referral order.

      (Quote)

  23. Troy – Nope I don’t know the details. But maybe it was while he was under 18? I’m not sure if the laws are different or more forgiving.

Plus I just think he looks like a ****, he has the face for it. Looks like a worky ticket.

      (Quote)

  24. The palace one looks like he could play anywhere across the midfield or up front, Picking the ball up off the centre halves, threading through balls for the strikers, running off the last man.

He looks talented and you can see why the club are interested, If they can can curb his attitude then he could be a steal…

      (Quote)

  25. @EvilF
He had to be under 18 to get a referral Order and it had to be his first time he’s been at courtand he had to plead guilty to the offence. He’s clearly followed his referral order as he has not breached it.

Let’s be honest, witness intimidation can be anything from speaking to a witness that you are not supposed to, to violence towards them or serious threats.
To get a referral order suggests it was on the minor side of the offence.

  26. I can see the comparisons with Scholes. He is a very tidy passer and can find the net. If we can get the lad at a decent price why wouldn’t we want to take a risk we can sort him out? I always thought Gary Neville was a **** but having watched his analysis on SKY sports he does know what he is talking about. If he and other Man U players are raving about him then that’s a good sign. Get him signed up.

      (Quote)

  27. If that’s the case then maybe it’s not as serious as first thought…

Looks a talent in those videos.

    What’s his position?

      (Quote)

  28. Buying problem players is clearly part of our transfer strategy now.

£1m is a risk worth talking for someone of his talent imo.

At worst we can flog him to QPR for twice that in 18 months 😆

  29. He may not even want to come here. He seems VERY Man Utd orientated on his Twitter…which is to be expected since it’s the team he supports.

  30. I would have big concerns about taking this lad on. Fergie has handled loads of very talented kids with issues but has decided to let this one go …….?. Morrison is obviously troubled and we’ve had enough of those disruptive personalities recently. Pardew thinking he will be able to change him is a bit like the the girl who thinks she can change a boyfriend with baggage once she marries him.

  31. @TonyToon

It’s the player knocking back Man Utd not the other way round. 😯

All he wants is first team football. It’s going to take a lot longer at Man U than at another club.

      (Quote)

  32. You never know. Sometimes a change of scenery works. The lad is still knocking about with the kids he grew up with in Manchester which might not be helping him. Obviously it might go the same way as Nile Ranger but the for £1 million its worth the risk IMO. Looks like he could become an excellent player. Far better and more accomplished than mist of the lads we have who are the same age.

      (Quote)

  33. We lose Lovens at the end of this season, and probably Ba.

We are going to get a taste of life without them over the next few weeks.

We have a current strike force of Shola , Best and Ranger.

Hands up everybody who just said ‘ oh my God ‘.

    Now would you take Morrison???

Agree wi Toonsy@50, although I still think he’ll either end up staying there or going to Spurs.

      (Quote)

  35. Toonsy I agree with you 100% a move away from Manure could settle him down, I wasn’t really in favour of getting him, as Ranger sort of pissed me off, but ye can’t tar them all with the same brush.
And a move to the toon could be the start of his new footie career.

  36. Troy – he’s old enough to know better than to be a naughty boy!

Even at 19, I still think for the amount we’re talking, it’s worth the risk. We don’t have enough players in the squad who can create goals and this lad looks like he could. There are very few whiter than white players out there, and I keep reading people wanting our Andy back at the club, I’m sure he has a record?!

Fergie seems to rule with an iron fist, dropping and fining Rooney for going out for a meal with their last. That’s his top striker, so what compasion or support will he show this lad? Very little I would have thought. Pardew has a different approach and I think, given the chance, this kid MAY come good

  37. Batts – who do you mean by “these lot”?

I don’t see those quotes being attributed to Jabba, Owlheed or Pinocchio, or are we taking everything the infamous “club source” says as gospel now?

  38. Batty…’cos anyones for sale at the right price 😉
Although to be fair that article doesn’t say anywhere that they have put a price on him, other than some no mark giving his personal view on what he thinks he’s worth.

      (Quote)

  39. @Batty

That ties in with my source and supermacs info that Spuds have submitted a £14m bid.

Personally, tho every player has his price, the goalkeeper and striker are the most important positions and £15m is not enough IMO .

  42. @Sharpy

If you are referring him being too old for petulant behaviour, there are plenty of senior players who are petulant.

      (Quote)

  43. Troy – I was trying to make light of the fact I got his age wrong to be honest and the best I could come up with was “he’s old enough to know better”
From my previous comment, there are plays who have done alot worse and very few who havent been in bother one way or another, whether it’s drink driving or worse. I think there is more bother at Man Utd than gets out but as part of our new recruitment policy, they look to get the players with the right temperament so they must see something in this lad, and just from the 2 clips above, he and Benny could work well together I think

  44. I read a couple of articles about this witness intimidation, and Ravel and his brushes with the law.

If I’m honest he sounds like a very big gamble, a hot-head with a history of anger management issues. He’s been told to get counselling about domestic abuse after twice being arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, and receiving a police caution for assaulting his mother. Allegedly, (from The Guardian).

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jul/21/manchester-united-ravel-morrison-harassment

No question he sounds like he’d get on well with a certain Mr Ranger, and has also been nicked over drugs and guns:

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/05/03/man-utd-boy-star-gun-bust-115875-21328227/

The witness intimidation involved Morrison contacting a lad – who had his trainers and music player stolen by some of Morrison’s mates – and contacted him a number of times through threatening phone calls, apparently saying… ‘You don’t know me any more. You don’t know what I’m capable of.” (sound familiar 🙂 )

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1358587/Manchester-United-midfielder-intimidated-victim-kinfepoint-mugging-spared-jail.html

…anyway, to summarise, if we DID bring him to NUFC, at least we’d be taking him away from his gangsta buddies. He is still only 18 (I think), but can this leopard change it’s spots ❓

….gut instinct for me says trouble. Avoid.
