Breaking News: Toon in talks with Papiss Demba Cisse

In talks with Newcastle?
Newcastle are said to be in talks with Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse according to Sky Sports News.

We were linked with the Senegal striker back in the summer and the striker even went on record to acknowledge our interest although unfortunately nothing come of it and Cisse remained at Freiburg.

So imagine my shock when I got in from work and turned Sky on to see this little chestnut rolling along the little yellow ‘breaking news’ ticker. I nearly spat my coffee out! However, with seconds seconds I was back in my defensive ‘wait and see’ mode, so that’s just what I’ll do.

Cisse has an outstanding goal record in the Bundesliga having scored 37 goals in 65 appearances which has alerted some of the bigger clubs in Europe. He is mates with Demba Ba and is also an international team-mate of his so perhaps our current goal machine has had a word in the ear of another goal machine?

More to follow. Maybe…

  1. Looking at that photo on the club website the deal was done hours ago. it’s still light for example…. 😉

  2. Richie, knock yourself out mate .. ive been enjoying what MA has been doing for years so, mebs this is a new experience for you .. i’m just supplementing that buzzzzzzzz and i get that from seeing the bullshit bus spinning its wheels in a ditch

  3. Most of the Anti Ashley talk is drying upon this site and I expect it to dry out a bit more after today. There are still a few dinosaurs around though, fans should run the club, blah blah, grow up will ya!

  4. Toonpipes…not at all, I can see the good Ashley has done, but I also see the bad. I prefer to celebrate when something good happen at NUFC and just enjoy it, you prefer not to and prefer to concentrate on trying to belittle people “knock yourself out mate”

  5. Keith, you’ve got nee argument mate .. try calculating the wages spent on the players we have bought in and the agents fees paid on all of those new players and the insurance costs on each of those players .. no doubt you have already considered that because of the fact we have about 10 players in for the 4 that we sold, that the wages / agents fees / insurance costs will have more than doubled, probably trippled .. how many other clubs have bought as many players of such high quality .. ?? i’ll tell you NO ONE .. so wind yer neck in and get behind the club you are supposed to be a supported you vibe assassinator

      (Quote)

  6. People say players might be sold and still don’t trust Ashley but why don’t you sit down and have a think about it for a few minutes and think of it this way…

If any player leaves, it will be a fringe player OR if it’s a star player, it will be because someone has offered us Andy Carroll type money.

    BUT

For those who still don;t trust Ashley, why would he buy a player for 10 million, giving him the number 9, with that player knowing the quality we have here and then selling our better players under his nose and also knowing that many other big clubs would bid for him.

The fact is, Pardew will have assured him about this clubs ambition and showing him the league table which wouldn’t have been lost on him anyway.

So I hardly think Ashley is gonna dismantle a team/squad that is fast becoming top class and the envy of many fans of other clubs.

This isn’t a time for negativity, it’s a time for ball rubbing excitement and those who hit the negative ( we will sign no one and sell Tiote e.t.c) need to have a serious think about it and channel your thoughts into good vibes and give Ashley the credit he deserves because he’s took all the **** that any man can take for mistakes made, so now he deserves the praise for the excellent job he’s doing as owner. 😀

  7. TC @ 448 I cant speak for anyone else but if that happened I would credit Jabba with showing ambition and putting the club on a better footing to push on to the next level.
But I will wait till the window slams shut before I do, as I would hate to make a fool outta myself, and if that makes me a neg, moaner etc etc so be it.

  8. Reet – too much excitement for me for one day.

    Catch ya’s all after.

    Toon Toon!! 😀

  9. Richie
I did say they may push it to as high as £7.5mil for a striker.
But its apparently higher than that.

Still if they announce they fee as undisclosed, I could be right.
    😉

Plus, in situations like this, I quite enjoy being wrong.

Haha – only messing mate 😉

  11. Very interested to see Ba and Cisse play together. Have to say this is an excellent move but surprised a CB didn’t come first. Also how to bring Ben Arfa into the starting lineup with these 2? It calls for some tactical thinking from Pardew but with the 3 together it could be a stunning attack. Surely this gives us a chance to finish in the top 6 provided injuries at the back don’t decimate us again. 😀

  14. BB….I’d heard that too, though I think it may be some mischief making…..but ya can’t let the truth get in the way of a good story 😆

  15. I can understand that there will be negativity and people will say this could be in preparation for BA being sold but……

It seems like Ba would not leave in this transfer window at least and cohis move not pursude Ba to want to stay he and form a partnership with Cisse and fire us into Europe.

This came totally out of the blue to me, just got in and seen it. I didn’t expect us to spend much money, and this is far more exciting than spending £8-9M on Cissokho IMO (who there is question marks about).

  16. Mackems will be shitting themselves knowing they gotta face that partnership come March. Can’t wait 😆

  17. The fast, muscular forward has not only perfectly complemented Freiburg’s style with his exceptional work ethic, but he’s also proved to be an expert finisher. No wonder they call him “Toumboule” (The Effective One) back home in Africa: Cissé is not one for showboating or flashy stuff; he collects goals in the calm, unassuming manner of a farmer picking ripe apples. His strike against Hamburg was his 11th goal of the season.

  21. I think you’re right about the CB Toonpipes. I hope we have someone lined up. Also has anyone heard how bad the injury is to Cabaye? Would like to see him back in time for Fulham. This has been a brilliant day for us. Is a better winger too much to ask for as well? No offense to Obertan and we have Marveaux to come back so I must be getting greedy! 😉

  22. toonpipes@ he he he “get behind the club you blah blah” how very patronising of you and imo i have a very strong argument …. i am allowed an opinion arent i ? you trip yourself over and knock yourself out bonnylad time will tell who is right not buying or selling a player ! if we finish high in the league or win a cup or get into europe that is sucsess , not relegation or 12th or 13th you see the things i talk about are fact not what might happen or what would be nice and what its like living in fluffy cloud cookoo land so for the third time tonight , had ya pash bonny lad calm down and get all irate when we achieve those things and try not to be rude x

  29. Why cant some fans just praise the board for doing this deal? Does my head in when fans cant enjoy moments like this without saying stuff like ‘fatty has something up his sleeve’.

  30. Wolfie if we were to get Samba in tommorrow i will be ball rubbing from then untill the next transfer window . God knows what i would rub if Colo ,Guthrie, Ba and Simpson all signed new deals as well .

  33. Cracking signing, very pleased with it 🙂

I’ll keep my opinion on the transfer window open until its over, as Ashley generally causes outrage after he does something good, so hopefully he won’t be a ******** and wipe the smiles off our faces.

Great start to the transfer window though, and I really hope this is the turning point with the fans and club moving forward together.

  36. Andrew…I think people are enjoying it and know the board/scouts/manager have done a great job getting him in, but alot are going to be worried about players going, we have some cracking players who are attracting alot of interest so until the window shuts the fear factor will be there.

  37. DAVE aye top player mate, often said we should go for him and hes cheap, did you know that he had the same number of goals as that DZEKO in the german lge and he was in a top team, city payed 32mill for him 🙄

  40. night Keith, try not to dream about the debt that Sheperd got us into or the fact that it was him that sold to MA the man you dislike so much

  41. If we have a strong finish to the season wouldn’t the revinue virtually pay for a signing like this every season anyway without Ashley losing money?

  42. Andrew @ 494, think about those people that made it off that cruise boat that turned turtle the other day.
If they go on another cruise, how do you think they will feel?
A bit wary I would imagine, and expecting the worst to happen at any time.
Well its a bit like that with us and Ashley. He’s kicked us in the knackers before, so some of us are wary that he will do it again.
Plus this is his trade mark move all over.
Give us the good news before the bad news.
Just dont come over all surprised when it happens.
