One week to go! Are you worried about it?

Will we be cashing a Cheik this January?
The transfer window has just one week remaining and as things stands it is us who are the biggest spenders after the arrival of Papiss Demba Cisee.

Now personally I never thought that would be the case although it is down to what has been an unusually quiet transfer window combined with an unusual willingness for not so fatty to splash a bit of cash.

I very much doubt that we’ll end the window as the biggest spenders though. We are entering the danger zone when the action starts to heat up and teams become that little bit more desperate to acquire that final piece of the jigsaw in preparation for whatever their aspirations are for the rest of the season, whether that be Premier League survival, a chase for a European place or a stab at the title.

After last January you can forgive fans of NUFC for being rather pensive as the window reaches its climax. The Andy Carroll transfer worked out with the benefit of hindsight, but last season it left a massive hole in our attack which, fortunately, Leon Best managed to fill.

So are you worried about the same thing happening this time around? We’ve heard allsorts of rumours and have some cracking players that bigger eyes will be watching. Demba Ba has been rumoured with a move away, as has Yohan Cabaye. Cheik Tiote is always linked with a move and Tim Krul is another NUFC player who has not gone unnoticed.

By now I think that most are aware that we won’t just sell for the sake of it. If anyone wants our players they must be prepared to have their eyeballs ripped out on any deal, much like we did with Liverpool 12 months ago. In fact that is one area where I have to praise the regime – if a player does go, he doesn’t go on the cheap unless they are not wanted at the club ala Joey Barton.

Anyway I digress…

So any team who wants our players will have to pay handsomely for the privilege, but with desperation increased you just never know what can happen in the final few days of the transfer window. Add to that the fact that we would have little time to respond in the transfer market and all of a sudden a transfer window with promise starts to look a little less pleasant should we shed one of our big stars and not have the time to replace them.

The question is, are you worried about it?

  1. Always a possibility with this management.
However I cannot see it at the moment,
Would like to see Mbvia in though and maybe a winger in the mould of sinclair or hoilett but that wont happen! 😆
Quiet on the ground today…. 😕

  2. It’s in the back of my mind but i wouldn’t consider myself worried. if we don’t sign this marriappa or whatever his name is then i don’t see anything else happening in this window.

    shalom.

  3. Just got me a good feeling that all is gonna be ok, this window.
    Lessons learned and all that.
    Not worried. 😯

  4. In saying that anything could happen at any time, so wouldn’t be overly shocked. 😕

  5. Can’t say Im worried , I do have complete faith in the direction the club is taking and if any player leaves I feel they will be replaced by better players. I feel its onwards and upwards for us.

  6. I don’t think any of the “big guns” will leave this window so worried?…..fekn **** right, I’m brickin it 😕 😆

  7. That leaked shirt is fecking horrible.

I actually think our kit this season is the best in a long time. Awesome kit.

  8. I’m not totally convinced nobody will leave. If we get a good offer on the last day, we will sell I think.

I won’t be surprised either way to be honest.

  9. Just glad that Essien is back playing and Arsenal refuse to spend, they could both do with Tiote. As could Man Utd to be honest

  10. I’m not sure if I’m trying to convince you or me here – but I don’t believe any of our big players will leave this month – the summer, yes.

I think well keep the big uns but loose a couple of squad players, but that’s fine coz I think we can loose as many as 8-10 players to make space in the squad.

Michael Essien has just came back for Chelsea, I think that will be enough to put them off spending £25m on Tiote just now, but they may well come back in the summer.

Spurs, I think need to qualify for Champions League before spending £15m on a keeper. Don’t forget that Adebayor will leave at the end of the season and they will need to replace him.
If they don’t get CL I don’t think they will have the money for a striker and a keeper, so they will wait to the summer.

Ba has already said he wants to say until at least the summer.

Colo could potentially be got for nowt in summer, and players who are free agents can get higher wages that way, so if he doesn’t want to stay, he’ll be here til at least the summer.

Shola – I can’t make any promises!!! lol

  11. Can’t see Tiote leaving, he’s at the ACN at theres no way Ivory coast will allow him tyo leave for a medical etc in the middle of the tournament.
Can’t see Krul moving as I don’t think any of the top 7 are in despeate need for a goalkeeper
Ba won’t leave for same reason as Tiote

I could see Simpson leaving if we get a decent offer and he doesn’t sign contract (Pards keeps going on about sorting Collo and Guthrie but doesn’t ever mention Simmos)
Smith won’t go as he’s happy picking up his 60k a week for nowt

Cabayes only been here half a season so doubt we’ll sell him

obviously all bets are off if someone offers mega money

  13. imo i think the only danger of a player going oot is simpson, and that wouldnt bother me owr much 😐

      (Quote)

  14. LST do you think that would bother jabba,he will feel its pardews problem,
switch santon to r/b and shove taylor back to l/b,is the only way oot imo

      (Quote)

  15. Aye icedog true cant imagine simmo being sold for much either 4m maybe. Dont think its worth losing him for the 6 months wait for summer and then get rid if he still wants out.
Think tav coudl do a job and even pards said that he was as good as simmo which was quite a pointed statement i think.

I thought tiote was a gonner to chelski but as the ACON are in full swing im not so sure…

      (Quote)

  16. LST i wouldnt worry about tiote or ba leaveing, players are not allowed to leave anc to have medicals once the compo has started, hence why we rushed through demba deal,i admit ime a little concerned if we sign a top class c/h would that mean a quick exit for colo hes 30 now jabba might think its time to cash in if its a good offer 🙁

      (Quote)

  17. Ice – to give colo a 5 year deal at 30 years old doesnt make sense so can see why there is the delay 🙁 he isnt really going to get better from here on in.

I have a feeling that if palace go out tonight of the carling cup wouldnt be suprised if we put a cheeky bid in for zaha or clyne?

      (Quote)

  18. Got to admit, I’m unnervingly unconcerned this window.

I think the 9m signing of Cisse has given me a little confidence boost in the transfer department. It seems to be a pretty bold statement by the club, and took me completely by surprise.

Having said that, I think our league table finish will dictate how much we sell/spend in the summer. My gut tells me we’ll spend up to 6 or 7m before this window shuts, on another defender. I don’t think any club will be stupid enough to make us an ‘appropriate’ bid for Krul either. I think he’s worth more to us than anyone would offer. Likewise with Colo.

I don’t think we’ll throw away our current league finishing potential for a few million quid. It’s fortunate for us that the ACoN is keeping Tiote and Ba otherwise engaged for now, but I’m sure there’ll be some large coinage flashed about in their direction at the end of the season.

      (Quote)

  19. Last January keeps niggling at me – hence yes, I’m worried. But that’s probably not rational given the higher number of very good windows we’ve seen.

The big difference now is our position. It gives us two big bonuses over last year:

    1. It’s a lot harder for a player to see a big step up going to other clubs. Pretty much down to a handful in the world now that you can hand-on-heart say are a class above us.
    2. Ashley’s clearly got an eye on Euro money, so has some pretty big figures to balance against any offer for a player. £25m for Tiote doesn’t look so huge if it means the difference between 4th and 8th.

    So I’m worried… but really shouldn’t be. I think.

    I’m such a confused individual. 😳

      (Quote)

  20. LST aye i agree with you on that, colo cost jabba 10mil,even if they gave him a 3yr deal whats his sell on worth at 33,very little imo,i cannot see any player getting to 30+ without being moved on,not the way jabba runs the club now,but as long as they replaced with quality i can see his plan, but it does worry me a little that it will be re-invested

      (Quote)

  21. The big question from this window onward is whether any club is going to be prepared to ‘Do a Liverpool’ and pay daft money, or ‘Do a QPR’ and offer a daft contract to a player. The clubs with the money only have that money due either to CL dosh or, as with QPR, a rich owner prepared to play the long game. If they know they’ll be chucked out of the CL for overspending, it does tie their hands a bit and I think they’ll be looking at the Carroll/Torres fiascos and realising it’s a ***** tactic.

So £25m for Tiote gets harder to justify – and a 5-year, 80k-pw deal for Colo even more so. Hopefully those players will see far less green grass elsewhere and we’ll get to keep them on realistic terms.

      (Quote)

  22. Regarding Simpson, Something is clearly going on with this player, his head and performances seem all over the place and he was arguing with Gosling at the end of the Fulham match.
He said in court a few weeks ago that he was on the verge of leaving the club, he hasnt signed the contract on offer so why fanny about with him, if his heart isnt in it then move him on, its not as if he is a main stay of the team in fact i would say he is the weakest link in the back 4.

      (Quote)

  23. i think if anyone leaves it will be simpson. can’t see tiote, krul, or demba cause we are in a position to say if you want them its gonna cost 30 million plus. still think we are going to get a couple more in to be honest I’m excited not nervous!

      (Quote)

  24. Just seen on Sky Sports News, only £18m spent so far this window, as opposed to £215m last January!!! 😯

    (where’s that fat lady?)

      (Quote)

  25. Agree that Simmo doesn’t seem to be on the same page based on his recent quotes. And Pards has been brutally honest about him, and the Tav quote this week was clearly pointed his way too.

On the other hand, his passion and bond with Krul, Colo and co are clear on the field so I don’t know.

For me, the less change the better – but I get the distinct feeling that Simmo is closest to the door as far as the club are concerned.

Apart from Xisco – but that’s the closet door. 😆

  26. Is anyone else wondering why we arnt hearing any juicy rumours about Samba. Could he be a surprise swoop, to play with Collo until Summer, then with STaylor next year, after Collo goes, with a good youngun coming in as back up. Collo is the last of the ‘overpaid’ players left, along with the overpaid non players (Smith and Cisco).

  27. WHUMPIE i think we can only guess really what wages players are on could be those rat bag agents or rags throwing these figs out, theres a case at m/u that welbeck is going to sign a 5yr deal at 42 grand a week and they are said to pay top money,so whats the truth?what clubs pay is a guessing game imo

      (Quote)

  28. I really don’t care who leaves us…. Think we have the youth and scouts to find players to fill gaps left!!! Really do have faith in our long term plan… 5 more years of this and we could be challengers for 4 place on a regular basis. Everton done it but we have more resources to make it consistent !!!

      (Quote)

  29. not really expecting any key player to leave in January, more worried that we may not see any good defenders coming in.

      (Quote)

  30. I remember a couple of years ago, NUFC accounted for about a third of the total spend in the window. 😯

Yet still we get this “tight bastid” thing, which I suppose is more based on his net profit on players than his actual outlay. Hopefully this window will end well and we can start to back off on the Ashley bashing on that front.

…which leaves us to concentrate on the SJP naming thing. Hats off to the council on that one.

  31. Really our window history is not that bad.
Judas:For silly money could not be refused!
Nolan: Wanted to long a contract for his age!
Jose: Wanted away what ever we did!
    Barton: Was just a prat!
As the Aussies say no worries 😀

      (Quote)

  32. I’m worried that we could lose one of our big players, simply because I don’t trust Jabba.
But i’l less concerned from we signed Cisse, as it shows a bit of ambition.
But i’ll still feel better when then window slams shut

      (Quote)

  33. I’m hopeful that we won’t but worried that we will. I still think we need at least a CB in. A loan to the summer would probably be the best option now IMHO. That way we arn’t stuck with someone and we can go after other targets then.

The message was addressed to my user name. Some 17 year old slag. Not ****** happy about it like.
Any idea how my details have been made available toonsy?

I also agree about Simmo, he’s had long enough now. If he doesn’t want to sign f*** him.
I think I’d sooner get Guthrie a contract extension over Simmo at the moment like.

There’s loads of other ways they can get info, unfortunately that’s the murky world of the internet
