Game On! Tottenham v Newcastle

Game On at the Lane!
Welcome one and all to our rather fabulous ‘Game On’ article which this evening will take us through every twist and turn of what is set to be a tough encounter.

Today we visit White Hart Lane to do battle with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur outfit but, unlike in previous years, there is actually something riding on this game.

Tottenham sit in third in the table and are looking to catch up Manchester United in second, whist we sit fifth currently – enough for Europe – and will be looking to consolidate that position. It won’t be easy of course, but at long last we have a team capable of springing a surprise result away at one of the “top” teams, in much the same way we did at Old Trafford earlier on in the season.

Anyway, there has been enough said about the match by others and I don’t have to go on about how tough it is going to be again. If you do wish to look at some more background information ahead of the match then why not check out Shamrock’s most excellent match preview or NUFC_stats’ Tottenham v Newcastle stat-attack by clicking here. They are both worth a few minutes of your time.

In terms of the match itself, it is being shown live in ESPN which is great if you can’t get to the match and fancy sitting in a pub or in front of the box with a few Saturday evening beverages. It’s also being broadcast on a lot of overseas channels so the chances of a stream should be pretty good, which is great if you fancy sitting in front of the computer with a few Saturday evening beverages… Once again, if you do stumble upon a decent stream then please feel free to share it with your fellow Magpies.

That is just about it for now and it’s up to the boys on the pitch to do the talking. Will they avoid some White Hart pain at White Hart Lane?

Howay the lads!

  1. In fairness, the result today hasn’t hurt us too adly thanks to other results. When looking at our next two games we could quite easily pick up 6 points if we pull our finger out. Should we do that, I reckon we will jump straight back above Arsenal and possibly Chelsea too.

    Toon PL fixtures:
    Wolves (H)
    Scum (H)

    Arsenal PL fixtures:
    Spurs (H)
    L’pool (A)

    Chelsea PL fixtures:
    Bolton (H)
    West Brom (A)

    L’pool PL fixtures:
    Arsenal (H)
    Scum (A)

Other than the Chelsea fixtures, they look very good to me!

  2. Ha Ha so pardew has admitted its all his fault.
He says he played too many offensive players.
Nowt wrong with being on the attack, but we need to get back to basics of passing and moving and keeping posession.
What’s the point of having two strikers if the midfield cant keep the ball and create them some oportunities.
We should have gone 4-5-1 and tried to nullify their midfield.
We probs would still have lost, lol.
Haven’t seen Adebayor as good as that for ages. He was immense in the first 20 mins.
We wont be the only team getting stuffed, if they continue to play like that.

  3. Big Dave@376-Got to agree ,Samba would of been perfect, but Ash is never gonna spend big ,not when he can get cheaper options in the summer. We all know he’s a gambler and i think he thought he’d take a gamble with our season panning out o.k without a cb coming in , we’ll just have to see if the gamble pays off . Got to say seeing Lambias laughing just confirms he has NO love for the club ,a real fan would feel sick watching that today . 👿

  4. I think we cam manage sixth place this season which would be fantastic… no higher…
We could finish as low as 8th and I’d be disappointed with that.

  5. For ***** sake, there are some right miserable people on here mind! The lads didn’t play well today, it doesn’t mean we are a **** team! Man Utd didn’t play well against City when they got hammered, but they bounced back!

It’s not how many times you get knocked down that matters, it’s how many times you get back up.

In a weird way, a hiding like this could prove to be a good thing. We’ve had a few poor performances of late, even though we’ve ground out results. We could so easily have been beaten 1-0 after a battling performance and all been happy, but at least now they know that the fans want a reaction.

If we get one in our next game then it could set us off on a nice run again.

  6. As far as I am concerned 4th place is very much up for grabs. Can’t wait to take my seat for the Wolves game and watch us smash them!

As long as the other teams around us are stuttering, we are very much still in the race.

  7. Gary > For ***** sake, there are some right miserable people on here mind!
who’s that then ❓ , and after a 5-0 hammering do you expect them to be happy 😕

  8. @GARY WATSON@382 agreed out of our last 13 games 11 are winable, the 2 matchs im worried about is liverpool away and man city at home.

  9. The point is Gary, other teams will see this match and realise all that is required is to get stuck into us, fast from the kick off and we are ****** and fall to pieces.
The wolves game is vital to bounce back in, to set us up on a strong footing to face the scum.

  10. I’m not worried about playing top 6 sides.
More worried how do we beat the remaining 11.?

  11. I blame JJ for cursing the team

“Every weekend I get a feeling we arn’t gonna get done, then we win… Only time I was sure we would win was Brighton and we lost.
I’m convinced Spurs will beat us unfortunately, so we should hammer them 5-0”

    😯

  12. I knew we wernt going to win this one so being hammered doesnt bother me. still only 3pts lost.

We had a weak midfield compared to excellent midfield. a few early goals didnt help either.

    **** happens

  13. Wow! Some crazy overreacting going on on here today.

We played Spurs, who have the best midfield in the country, with a weakened midfield. They dominated that area and exploited the gap between midfield and defence. The same gap that appears every time Tiote doesn’t play.

Add to that the “Harry’s back” effect + two strikers keen to prove themselves(Saha is new and Ade has been off-form for around 7 or 8 games) and you get yourself a thrashing.

Not to mention the early goal, which clearly shell shocked us and spurred them on.

Once Cabaye and Tiote are back we will be fine. Spurs’ dominance in the middle area killed us both offensively and defensively today.

I fully expect us to bounce back and give Wolves a nightmare.

  14. It was rubbish. Put it out with the table scraps. Everyone could see how weak our midfield was. You can’t play top teams with even ordinary midfielders and hope to get a win. No service for the strikers and little defensive help for the centre backs. With hindsight you could say we should have played 4-5-1 but give credit to Pardew for trying to be positive and going for it. We will bounce back, not to worry but we are not in Spurs class without Tiote and Cabaye and even with them we would have had trouble the way they were playing today.

  15. On the plus side, after spending all that money and sacking Warnock unfairly to get a “big name”, QPR are still **** and look good to go down.

  16. Now the shock of the size of the defeat has sunk in , i can only say onwards and upwards . Next up Wolves , with Tiote and Cabaye returning that is back too winning ways . I thought we would loose today but it was painful too watch how easily they did it .Oh well **** happens .HWTL

  19. I think the 5th place team in the prem should not accept a 5-0 trouncing to the 3rd placed team and say, what do you expect did you think we should be 3rd at beginning of season etc. etc, …. A 5-0 trouncing by anyone is disgusting for a team renowned for its fighting spirit, and battling qualities.

  21. ….Cabaye and Tiote play a large part in team morale I think, whether they intend it or not.

We’re set up for the finish.

Today’s result bears no pressure on my expectations.

  22. On topic, personally can’t believe these dreeeeeeeeeeeamers (zzzz) who thought we’d win today. It had 5 nil written all over it from the start.

  25. To let 5 in with that performance was a disgrace. Show’s guthrie is not as quality as Cabaye, and Perch is obviously stop gap and not really squad material…..not really simmo or Willo’s fault imo, santon and colo were gash as well, whole team was terrible defensively

      (Quote)

  26. …think we were just outclassed and outfought today.

Sort of comes with scrimping on the defence.

Main reason we are where we are is down to the same line-up being played for so long.

    We’ve been very lucky, injury-wise.

  27. it’s there for all to see, thats why they were massacred by an extremely in-form tottenham side.

Last one, ehmmm …treble eighteen – tops. Gedddinnnnnnn.

  29. Sobered up and watched the game again on MOTD, we need a right back desperately, Williamson was weak but Simpson once again was like a lost sheep, hes either injured or not interested, either way his meandering around the pitch is pulling the centre halves all over the pitch.
A plus for me was young Ferguson who got stuck in and played with passion, why not play him at left back and switch Santone to the right.
I know the game was over at half time but we were a different team second half, Tottenham were class, but so they should be with the cash thats been spent on them but one negative, Defoe, did he really have to dive to try and win a penalty and then follow that up by trying to get Collocini sent off when there was no contact at all, never mind with his face, cheating bastad.
