Newcastle 2-0 Bolton – Match highlights and interviews

Match highlights of the 2-0 victory over Bolton for you all to enjoy now, featuring a very special goal from Hatem Ben Arfa!

We are now clear in 5th place in the league following the 1-1 draw between Fulham and Chelsea, meaning that guaranteed Europa League football is now in our own hands. We’re also level on points with 4th placed Tottenham which gives an altogether different, and more financially rewarding, position to aim for.

However Alan Pardew urged his players to not get carried away in his post match interview. He also had special praise for Hatem Ben Arfa and backed him to make the France squad for the forthcoming European Championships.

Meanwhile Owen Coyle was left to bemoan the goal by Papiss Cisse, which he feels was offside and stopped his side from getting back into the game in his post match interview, although he was heartened by the performance of his side.

Five wins on the bounce eh? Who would have thought that a few weeks back?

  1. Find it incredible that we are genuinely pushing for champions league in only our second season from promotion…..

  2. This might me one of the ‘neggars’ but i still think we’ll finish 6th.

My only reasoning for this is nothing more than ‘We’re due a slip-up’ and Chelsea are Chelsea and Spurs are Spurs.

**** reasoning but I don’t want to feel disappointed if we don’t get Champions league.

I’ll still be extatic with 6th though…. if we finish 6th next season i’ll be happy as well.

If Pardew doesn’t get manager of the season it’ll be an absolute tragedy.

I missed MOTD… I was so hungover at the match yesterday I didn’t realise how good benny’s goal actually was until i saw it on sky sports news this morning.

This is a total cliche but whenever benny get’s the ball i genuinely believe some magic is going to happen.

  4. Nobby I guess your right we are due a slip up somewhere, I would say its 100% that we’ll not win every game left.
But I don’t think chelski or spuds will win all theirs either.

  5. It is imperative we win the next two to have any hope, Theres nowt to lose in the rest.

Chelsea will be knackered by the time we play them and might have cup and champions league finals to focus on, Man citys season is over and will be half arsed and everton maybe preparing for a cup final or have nowt to play for.

There is no way spurs will win every match they have shot their bolt and chelsea are limping over the line already let alone after their coming fixtures.

Stranger things have happened, This is not you average football club… 😉

  6. The real shame is we should actually be 5-6 points clear of Chelsea now. Wigan the poor bastards were robbed blind by incompetent ageing dinosaur officials who are NOT fit for purpose. That could cost them MILLIONS in club revenue should they fail to avoid the drop. And were gifted a penalty against Fulham after a very dubious decision…if we miss out on Europa League because of this I’ll be furious.

Hate everything Chelsea and Citeh stand for, I don’t for one second view their achievements with any respect at all because they were both neither here nor there until the sugar daddies.

Arfa’s goal was very special yesterday. The cheeky back heel turn to dumbfound the opposing player leaving him on his ****, the turn of pace straight after, staying on his feet after having his heels clipped, more pace, then a sublime perfectly weighted pass and another turn of pace to take it past the remaining defenders before finishing calmly and confidently into the bottom left…amazing goal. So pleased I seen it in the flesh.

The results went out way yesterday, hope we take full advantage and make that last 4th spot. Chelsea look *****, Spurs look ***** AND disinterested. It’s there for the taking boys, Championship to Champions League in 24 months…no one would better that.

  7. All this talk of maybe being able to overhaul Spurs and Arsenal is absolute tosh if you ask me!

Carry on the way we are and we’ll sneak past City at this rate!!! 😀 😀 😀

  8. I keep hearing that decisions even themselves out over the season, if thats the case, Chelsea are in for some stinkers, it started with the howler by Dean against us which not only cost us 3 points but also Steven Taylor for the season, 2 offside goals at the weekend and a penalty for nowt last night, lucky twats or is there something in the view that the glamour clubs get the benefit of the borderline decisions.
Could never see the ref giving Fulham such a soft pen and could anyone see Elmer Fudd giving QPR the same decision as Man U, he nearly sprained his wrist getting the red card out.

  9. Dave – it surprised me as well but when asked if we could make 4th spot they still laughed it off a bit, but Spurs apparantly deserve 4th because they have played some good football this season?! 😕

4th spot will be difficult but from what I’ve seen in recent weeks, Everton will be our hardest game of the run in. Chelsea have a hectic and quite difficult run in and if they loose to Arsenal I think their focus will be the FA Cup, knowing that Barca will be far more difficult to beat.
If we play like we have been against Chelsea then we could win that game and likewise if we play with no fear of City I think there is a point there to be had aswell.
We are the form team of 2012 and all the players seem to be right up for it. With a rest and time for the likes of Tiote and Colo to recover properly, I really dont see why we can secure at least 5th spot and that automatic Europa place.

  10. Can people stop with the silly Messi, Ben Arfa comparisons…

The lad’s quality, but he’s no Ben Arfa!

  11. Absolutely gutted.
I’ve just done the maths and realised that we can’t win the title this season, **** it.
I can’t believe we messed this up. 😉

    😆

  12. nice one Batty   just made my morning 😆 😆
nice rest period coming up now, and time for Demba to apologize to his team mates, management and the fans…. yes we know he must be going through some sort of bad patch, then watching Cisse banging the goals in , isn’t going to help, BUT, i hate seeing players showing disent when being subbed, after all its a team game.
roll on the stoke game, then wigan, 6 points should be in the bag, then take it one game at a time 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
i’d be more than happy now if the season ended now, been another impressive season, even with the crazy defeats weve had to put up with, iron out those little problems, then top 4 next season is a possibility 😀 😀 😀 😀

I can see this being a tough one, I reckon we’ll look tired. Hopefully our quality in attack will prove the difference but I’m not expecting a pretty one”

    tweeted this on Sat also,

“going to be a struggle today, lacking in imagination going forward, need to get Ben Arfa on the ball more #matchwinner #nufc”

Should be a bloody pundit me like, I know i’m better than Mark Lawrenson!

  14. Dave-I’d agree with you on top 6, still a massive achievement. Of course it would be a massive disappointment to not get Europe of course, so we just need liverpool to something out of the bag…

I don’t want fans to become too expectant because we have the hardest run in of the lot and obviously the “weakest” squad. The chelsea game will be huge.

  15. Reckon we’ll finish 5th, Spurs have a ridiculously easy run in although I thought thier game at home to Norwich was a home banker so who knows

funny to see the liverpool old guard on motd – Sat night Newcastle will definitely not finish top 4, Sun night – Newcastle could finish top 4
    They don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t know what…… 🙂

  16. Did MOTD happen to show any other angles of the Cisse goal? I thought it was offside first time watching but slowing it down on a bad angle it looked pretty **** close to being onside (cisse level with the ball, not the player). Just wondering
