Thank you Andy Carroll

Cheers Andy!
For scoring the winner yesterday and putting us within reach of Europe for the first time in five years.

However, contrary to what some people seem to be saying, the goal yesterday was one for himself and not for us. I don’t mind that at all as it’s done us a favour, but the very notion that us qualifying for Europe was in the mind of the Liverpool number nine is, to be frank, utter pony.

Lest we not forget that team continuity and progression wasn’t exactly in the mind of Carroll back in January 2011 when he hopped on Mike Ashley’s chopper and turned up at Melwood grinning from ear to ear, so why would that suddenly change?

However it is ironic that the moment he walked out on us/left us/was pushed out (delete as appropriate, although I’ll never buy the pushed out theory) our fortunes improved as a football club. Suddenly we had a vast swathe of cash, and look what it has done for us.

At this moment in time it would appear that the decision to sell Andy Carroll or £35m has worked out a treat. It didn’t feel like it at the time as questions arose over Derek Llambias’ assertion that the money would be spent on the team, but just 13 months later the time for questioning is over and the results are in.

Right now we have a team with quality that I’ve not seen in a long time at St James’ Park. Yes there is still work to do and we can still improve, like any team, but to go from Championship to Europe in two seasons is pretty staggering by any stretch of the imagination.

So thank you Andy Carroll, not just for the goal yesterday that made us odds on favourites to play in Europe once more, but for also providing a legacy that has allowed our team to grow at a pace that has exasperated even the most positive NUFC fan.

P.S – If articles are a bit thin on the ground over the next day or so, it’s because I’m in hospital my wife as she gives birth to my child. If there is any news I’ll let you all know in due course.

Have a great day!

  2. Yep on the west coast.. the gfc didn’t hit oz too hard.. big mining over here in Western Australia so things are not cheap. Up north where the mining is, houses that are only 3 bedrooms (average size) are selling for over a million dollars. The guy working up there pay around $1500 a week rent. It is not uncommon to earn around 150+ k for being a basic Fab shop welder. So things very here in the west are probably more expensive than Sydney..

  6. Amazed that scousers come on the site to defend AC, they’ve been slating him as the biggest waste of money since Henderson, Downing, Adams, Coates – 2 goals and he’s now there new messiah and they’re gonna win the league next season ……. And they call us deluded
Liverpool were a big club but I think you’ll find that over the last few seasons you’ve been falling further and further behind the big clubs and will fall even further next year with no CL revenue
This will also impact players who will sign so you’ll then have to pay higher wages to compensate, a few seasons of this and you’ll find your wages to revenue is unsustainable ….. Something we at the toon know all about
KD and Suarez aren’t helping Liverpool at all although it seems Comolli has been made the fall guy for the moment, I don’t mind Liverpool but if they think they’re anywhere near the club they were they are sadly mistaken
They need to probably spend another 60 – 80 million on transfer fees / wages to keep up with the top four which is money they don’t have so will have to take yet another loan, if it fails they are probably fooked and will follow the path of Newcastle/Leeds/forest

  10. I’m just gutted Liverpool were able to get rid of gilette and hicks. They’d be in a complete financial **** storm then, probably looking forward to a points docking and relegation. Shame really, might teach some of these ***** fans a bit of humility. Still, then we wouldn’t have been able to flog off Carroll I guess.

  13. BMok & other scouser whingers – Ca££oll went to Liverpool for the money and nothing else and if you think anything different you are even more stupid that I thought scousers where.

You all seem to forget that Ca££oll signed a new contract with NUFC not 3 months previously and how about all the trouble he got into, hitting girlfriends, fighting in clubs, NUFC and supporters stood by him. He was great for us in the Championship and 4 months in the EPL because the team was built around him. Its not NUFC fault you paid way to much for him.

I dont feel pity for him now its all gone to **** at Liverpool, he can always console himself counting his money.

As for the abuse he got at SJP, what did he expect an open topped bus ride down Northumberland Street or small children throwing rose petals in his path as he came out onto the pitch at SJP in Liverpool colours. I wonder how you would have treated Steven Gerrard if he had signed for Chelsea as he very nearly did a few years ago?

The majority of their income as a club is their paper fan base buying int them, if they went bankrupt, they’d all go to Man U/Barca/RM and then Liverpool would be completely ****** 😆

      (Quote)

  15. State of their club really is shocking, backing SteveP’s analysis. Where do they begin? Like they are honestly so, so ****. But it’s not like Arsenal or someone where they just need some transfer activity, they’ve already tried that and within a year it’s failed!
Defence is fairly decent, but midfield and strikers are just shocking.
I just don’t know what they do next, they could either keep faith in the players and hope they improve next season, or try shipping out the flops and buying a fresh..

For the fees they paid, Carroll/Suarez/Henderson/Downing should all be starting, add Gerrard to that and you have 5 of their possible 6 midfield & attack already. 1 signing certainly isn’t going to revive them so they are probably going to need to sell and revamp surely. Whatever happens, i’ll have the popcorn ready 😆
Think atm I actually detest them more than the mackems, most mackems i speak to are pretty sound about our achievements this season, and i might laugh when they do badly but deep down i’m pretty happy when the north east is doing well (just not better than us!)

  17. I can’t believe scouse fans are on here saying how fickle we are and how stupid we are to be having a go at Carroll. Why not? This is a local lad who ‘supported’ the club as a boy, got his chance to play for his club, something that hundreds of millions of people can only only dream of, he was then given the sacred number 9 shirt something which you have to earn through dedication to the club, then he left it all for a bigger paycheck at the end of the month.

      (Quote)

  18. Andy-Aye its a real shame like, plus with the new owners bringing in more plastic fans from America and the like, just crash and burn already! 😆

      (Quote)

  19. @166
all if and buts, the best though is:
IF only the referee had sent Luiz off for bringing down demba, we would have probably won that game, S.Taylor wouldn’t have gotten that injury, our defence would have been more solid and we’d easily be in a CL spot right now.

“*** its Liverpool United! I love Soccer, its awwwesum!” 😳 (meant to be sick)

      (Quote)

  21. Andy-True enough, that match was one of the most painful these season, probably more so than any other really because we got beaten soundly by Spurs and Fulham so we can’t have too many complaints. Chelsea winning by 3 goals with two of them scored in extra time, us hitting the bar so many times and on top of it losing Staylor for the season! 👿

No worries though, we’ll just have to dish out some serious payback at the Bridge 😉

  22. @175 😛

To be fair though its what we were trying with our preseason and the like, I guess all teams are trying to break the american and the asian markets, just Liverpool have been given a massive helping hand 😡

  30. 3Hourswasted-was just about to post that. You tell em’ Ryan 😆

Standard Manure antics isn’t it? I remember Hernandez doing it in last years home game, manure fans screaming for a pen naturally.

  31. Solano-Its the young generation of england players definitely. Sturridge and Young stand out, seen welbeck at it as well. Whether its foreign influenced or not I’m not sure. Thankfully Jonas doesn’t fly like a swan through the air anymore so at least we seem to have mellowed him out a bit? 😆

were you there when keagen and the team flew over? My mum contacted him and he phoned my dad at work for a chat 😆 Was born mid ninetees meeself

      (Quote)

  34. CC-Agreed

Its really ruined the actual title challenge for the Prem nowadays. Manure’s gifted penalties and decisions which are only really challenged by Chelsea’s. City are a bunch of merc bastards despite some good football and Spurs have Arry who’s just a total toss pot. Arsene whinge bag does his hypocritical team no favours. Couldn’t care less about any of them.

About time we got back amongst the title challengers and restored some pride in English football imo

Shocking decisions have been going there way more for some reason over the last few games, seems like they haven’t won a match in a while without a iffy penalty

  36. Andy- I remember Cabaye when he seemed to throw that strop when he didn’t get a fk and got stretchered off but I don’t think he’s been that bad. He’s “left his foot in” a few times too, but I think he’s learning.

Hah he really phoned? Awesome 😛 Yeah about 96 wasn’t it? I remember buying some Newcastle player figures and stuff as I was about 6 😆

  37. Shay Given must be sick.
    His defence is shocking.
I wonder how he feels now seeing NUFC flying high and AV flirting with relegation.

  38. Bit of an obscure question but does anyone know where i can find out the players of both teams who played in a match way back, Crystal Palace v Toon at Selhurst Park on 2nd September 1972? Been on google but not come up with anything so far.

      (Quote)

  39. @Newkie Don’t forget our very own Andy 😉

I’ve never really seen Jonas as a diver, but i tend to think “making a meal” is okay if there is genuinely decent contact, whereas i think engineering a dive like Young did or complete simulation like Carroll’s is a disgrace. I think if you are fouled you are probably justified in ensuring the ref sees it.

aye my perfect three at the mo would be
    Wolves
    QPR
    Villa

Feel sorry for Wolves but I despise orange teams (hate the colour 🙄 ), QPR are generally a bell-end team that spunked money on players that mediocre players would say were mediocre, Villa are a–holes and if they were to go down the only thing I’d be sad about was that we didn’t get to play them last game of the season to personally send them to the fizzypop/gas league 😈

      (Quote)

  41. NEWKIE@202 Me too mate I hate those tosspots ever since we got relegated. I remember thinking what goes around comes around and how I wish it would for Villa

  43. @Andy yeah they’d be my three, not that I reckon Villa will.
Can’t decide on who’d i like to go down with Wolves/QPR. It’s odd that because of Kean i actually want Blackburn to stay up, feel bad for him and would love it for him to shove in the aggressive fans faces.
Also you can’t be hating our orange kit though?!

  44. Actually scratch that, despite my dislike of them i’ve just remembered their remaining fixtures.. QPR TO STAY UP

  48. Alreet lads? How’s everyone today?

I think we’ve got a genuine chance of breaking our ‘can’t win after a break’ hoodoo against stoke next week.

I’ve been reading some of the scouse comments on here… Jesus Christ.

The Manc have it right don’t they? The scousers are genuinely a self pity city. They love to blame the world… they love to live in the past.

Not one of us Geordies think we’re amazing for having ‘1 decent season’. We’re just really proud of our lads working hard to get there. Let’s hope we can carry it on into next season and beyond.

Yes we haven’t won anything since 1969… but we’ve always had a full house since then. Would the bindippers get a full house if they’d not won f*ck all since then? no… i’d suggest Tranmere Rovers would be higher up the football league and pulling bigger crowds than LFC if LFC had won nowt since then.

Anyway, thanks Andy Carroll for the goal, best of luck in Liverpool. I suggest you sign for Stoke as they suit your playing style better. I think Crouchy and Carroll upfront would be decent upfront.

Non vedo l’ora di vedere il Toon a Milano!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    😉

      (Quote)

  49. Solano-True, but as biased as this statement might sound-I can’t remember Andy diving once for us? Anyone? Put him next to Suarez for a few months and bam…. 😆

I’ve seen Jonas play for the Argies and he’s flown like a 747. He did it a bit in our first season as well, tho the CC beat that out of him I guess. Anyway he doesn’t “dive” now, sometimes he might feign a slight injury but EVERY player does that if they get tackled.

Andy-Yeah Wolves are already gone, and I’d prefer Blackburn over QPR. Hate blackburn with a passion! Ugly ugly football.

      (Quote)

  50. My dream three i would love to see go down

    QPR -Tossers and deluded owners.
    Villa – For payback
Dippers- (I know it can’t happen ,but wish it could) because I hate them. 👿

      (Quote)

  51. Kimtoon-Exactly. Watching us get relegated in a pub and listening to some Villa fans along with the neutrals hand me some “banter” left a very very bitter taste in my mouth. Watching their fans antics at the ground with all those banners just made me angrier. Feeling that will never leave me, and I hope we get the chance to repay those bastards in kind at some point 😈

      (Quote)

  52. Oh yeh I would like to say Wigan too if I could as don’t like them either 😆 Obviously can’t send down the Scum as we need them up with us so we can collect our 6 points every season. 😉 😀

      (Quote)

  53. As much of a **** as Barton can be I wouldn’t wish relegation on QPR for his sake. Boring football true, but they can’t compete with us, I’d rather those teams stick around

      (Quote)

  54. Newkie/ kimtoon – was at VP that day myself. Don’t think they were all that bad really. I didn’t notice it at all myself. Every club has a few twats that’ll do something like those banners. Annoyed me for a while but the 6-0 helped and i was at SJP this season so we’ve got our revenge as far as I’m concerned.

Never been more proud to be a toon fan than at VP that day. Fans were incredible throughout even with a team that didn’t want to play for the shirt and the reaction afterwards was phenomenal.

Best of luck Sy and the missus, hope the young’uns healthy

      (Quote)

  55. Dubtoon-Fair enough mate, obviously I wasn’t at the ground but it still showed a severe lack of class. I wouldn’t celebrate anyone’s relegation infront of them. Well, unless it was the dippers because they deserve it, or the mackems because it would be hilarious 😉

I was at the same pub with some of the same people at the 6-0 win and I absolutely loved it. I was howling with laughter as Villa fans left early  Despite the wins I’d still happily dish out some beatings on them, although them having McLeish as manager does make me feel better as well 😛
