Europe – Guaranteed!

Get your plane tickets ready!
Dust off your passports boys and girls, it’s now official – Newcastle United are back in Europe!

Everton’s 4-4 draw at Old Trafford this afternoon, whilst very very entertaining to watch, means that we are now guaranteed to finish at least 6th in the table and will pick up at least a place in the Europa League next season as a result.

Being honest it’s no less than our team has deserved based on the course of the season. I was looking earlier at how much time we’ve spent in the top six this season and the answer is that all bar two weeks have been spent in at least 6th place (we dropped to 7th between December 21st and January 4th) so nobody can say we’ve fluked it.

Of course eyes are on bigger prizes right now as we currently occupy the final Champions League qualification position, but it’s nice to know that whatever happens from now on we won’t drop below 6th or miss out on Europe. I’m not saying we should pack our bags and head off on holiday right now, but the security blanket is nice to have.

In two years we’ve gone from Championship to Europe which signals a truly remarkable turnaround in the fortune of the club. I get called positive quite often, but not even I envisaged anything like this and credit should be given to everyone at the club, even Mike Ashley I guess!

The only question now is which competition we’ll be entering!

  1. Hi Dave, yeah going fine thanks, yourself?

Reading through some of the comments and seen that link to the article of Colo saying he will shave his hair if we get into the Champions League. I think you take a bit of Colo away from him if you take his hair away! 😆

      (Quote)

  6. Dave, definitely 😆

Maybe if he does do it they can keep the hair by sticking it on Obertan or something 😆

      (Quote)

  7. NOOO Colo can’t lop his hair off even if he said he would those curls definetley give him special powers – the curls have to stay!

  11. Evening boys and girls…

I just wanted to say how proud of NUFC I am for reaching Europe this season. There’s not much more you can say that hasnt already been said about how brilliant we have done this season.
From Ashley down to the cleaning staff should take great pride in what we have achieved this season… and still could achieve!!!

If we build on the squad we have now and improve over the coming seasons, my 3yr old boy is really going to enjoy being a MAG 😛

  12. Dan @ 157 I was wondering what has happened to Obertan I don’t think he has even made the bench, and I havn’t heard of him being injured 😕

      (Quote)

  13. Dave, Pardew said a few weeks back he would be back for Wigan then in his presser the other day said he was back fit. Going to find it hard to get a place on the bench now virtually everyone’s fit.

      (Quote)

  14. think pardew might try and give marv a game, might save makeing a signing if hes come through well

      (Quote)

  15. Obertan at present will struggle to make the 17. Perchino a better midfielder these days

  16. Thats the spirit Big Dave, what a belter this is!!! … coooome on! … just hope they dont totally cool off and we end up cantering in .. hes got to keep them totally fired up .. this is going to be big

  17. Looking ahead to Wigan it will be interesting to see how we line up against their 3-4-3 formation. I’m guessing and hoping we stick with 4-3-3 as when they do go forward they do in numbers and leave themselves exposed at the back so I’m thinking maybe we could see another game like Westbrom away.

      (Quote)

  18. Ice agree with the pace issue but there has to some skill too. Actually think we would see a better Obertan in the new formation. Don’t believe he is a wide player we were just hoping he was

      (Quote)

  19. TP I used to worry about the player remaining fired up for “lesser games” but I am not worried about the run in I think they will all be fired up.

    TGS promoted again 😉

  20. DAN4TOON,
The way we are playing at the moment,I fancy us against anyone.
Wigan will be a difficult game, but we are the form side in the EPL.
Same side for me like, and Papisso to score again 😆

      (Quote)

  21. Big Dave,
    Aye mate, flying now 😆
Fancy a game tomorrow night? We could form a party!

      (Quote)

  22. Dan4toon

100% agree. Wigan are playing well, but if we sit back and look to hit them on the break then I don’t see how they can outscore us with our fire power. I have faith Pardew is taking them seriously and giving them the respect they deserve.

      (Quote)

  23. The Kid, Moses against Simpson looks a bit dodgy but like you say with our firepower we’re liable to nick a goal or two.

      (Quote)

  24. Dan4Toon

Yeah, he and Di Santo have been key to their recent form. Hopefully the latter doesn’t make the game as he currently has an ankle injury

  25. Ice@114- The thing with Harry is he will suit the England job as it’s all short bursts of management. AS has been said his teams run out of steam ,but in the case of England it’s all about short term success which is Arry down to a t. He loves the press and they love him so he’s on a long honeymoon period from the getgo. Any way I just want him out of club football so he can stop tapping up players at other clubs 😆

BB@126- Holloway was brilliant ,a breath of fresh air. Sadly our Bristolian accents can give the impression we are all a bit simple (farmer syndrome). Beneath the accent is a very intelligent bloke ,he knows his stuff and he’s got Blackpool back in the playoffs must be doing something right. England could do a lot worse than Ollie and have done . 😉

  26. TGS I think he go’s on to team up with my Bro 😆 as the Bro phones me all the time to see if dede is in and to get him to go on.

  27. pipes – what is it you are gloating about exactly?
Are you seriously suggesting Mr Ashley has done nowt wrong?
Or that he has singlehandedly turned this club around?
What are you trying to say?
Ashley has made blunder after blunder since taking over and dragged this club thru the mire.
His appointment of Pardew has turned out to be a stroke of luck for him and his investment.
What else has he done that is so great?
ps I am not remotely interested in the financial side of the club. Never was before he came and dont see why I should be now.
Please enlighten me as to why you think the sun shines out his rear end.

  30. Stuart….weissbier is like a cloudy lager, bit of an acquired taste like. I only had it occasionally when I was stationed over there, I think I’ve actually drunk more of it here in Spain than I did in Germany love it now. Ya’ll have to try it while ya over there, it defo does the trick….mind most German beer is lush

  31. I want to be known as NUFC GODFATHER.

I am 67 a lifelong toon supporter and football connossieur’

I care passionately about newcasatle united and am not a recent convert to the Ashley-Lambias-Pardew regime, but I Ibelieve it is the best ownership-management structure in English football. Manchester United might be better, thanks to the greatest footbalol manageer ever, but no-one else is close.

Above all, I want to campaign for tre owner

Ashley is a young entrepreneur who built his empire by the age of 30. Until recently, he was “learning on the job” at Newcastle, but just look at what he has done in 2 years! We have a manager who looks like a genius, but bremember who hirede him when everyone on your websites was saying Chris hughon for ever,” That took courage of a high order and a long=sighted judgement which has proved stunningly, prematurele correct.

uate. I think I can contribute pertspective, forward thinking, experiemce in the management of much bigger companies than NUFC, an
understanding of football past and oresent . Uunderstand what an att’acking right half used to be, and you undd what YOHAN CABAYE is all about

  32. eh ❓
    😆 😆
ok then. so we agree that the legend that is mike ashley, got lucky so far with his appointment of the mercurial Alan Pardew.
    cool 😉

  33. I dont think anyone has been dumb enough to call his business acumen into question. After all he floated his sports tat emporium, just at the right time and made a billion big ones. No mean feat indeed.
Initially tho I think we should agree that he knew sweet FA about running a football club, jumped in with both feet before doing his homework and made a complete horses *** of himself.
Since which time he has been on a steep learning curve, and credit to him seems to be putting things right at last.
One good season doesn’t erase 3+ years of destruction tho.
Hopefully we are on a path to consistently fighting at the top of the league table and whatever comes with being at such lofty heights.
    Time will tell.

  34. Just been reading through some of the archive articles from June, July and August last year. Really funny reading back now! Europe hardly mentioned and if it was it was ‘in 4 or 5 years time’.

    How times change! 😆

  35. Incidentally, I understand that he has big plans to overhaul the reserve team squad over the summer.
Should be interesting to see how this pans out.

  36. Aye Rossco, that was the great mans 5 year plan.
seems to have come to fruition sooner than he or any of us expected. 😀

  37. Aye BB. Reading through the articles took me right back – only 9 months ago but seems like an absolute age. The team feels brand new, as does the club. Were playing good footy, players are trying their all and there has been next to controversy!

Funny to think we were fretting over the loss of Barton and Nolan!

  38. I hope we aren’t going to start fawning over that great owl headed clown of a MD too are we ?

  39. SPORTS DIRECT ARENA
    👿
sell your soul for thirty pieces of silver.
    Fucking disgrace.
Seems there is more money to be made in qualifying for the Champions League, than can be made in naming rights of St James’ Park.
Therefore if we should happen to reach that holy grail, will Ashley withdraw from this naming fiasco?
surely would be a huge publicity coup for him one would have thought..
    Hmmmmm!!!! I’m guessing not tho

Its seems like it is written in the stars for us to get into the CL with everything falling into place at just the right times.

  43. I must say that the football gods are smiling at us at the moment… The past weeks all of the results seem to be falling our way… Maybe it is our turn for some time in the sun for a change… We have been doing our part by winning games but the other teams around us have been falling over themselves to help out as well. 😀
I feel like I am in a daze, it almost feels surreal. Great times!!

  49. anyone see that article in the guardian where pards said he would have kept barton and nolan but ash and owlheed wanted them out and wouldnt renegotiate their contracts – they both were a big part of getting out of the championship and getting us mid table in 1st season back in prem but no way would we be where we are now if they had stayed

I cant be arsed with the ashley haters or lovers – he’s a fooking chairman, there all a bunch of twats – The Halls / Shepperd / McKeags / Seymour / Westwoods all took more money out of the club than they put in and all made horrendous errors

    fook the lot of em

  50. So RVP is PFA player of the year. 👿
I hope he gets an award for being a complete kunt too.
    😆
Colocinni made it into the Premier team of the season. But I dont understand how Kyle Walker of spuds made it in as best RB.
Surely Danny Simpson has been overlooked. 😯

  51. True Rich, your positivity is positively positive! 🙂 🙂
Don’t mind a larger either, but I am a pilsner fan.. or even a kolsh if I can find em.?

As far as Ashley and Co go… I think it is time to move on.. hanging onto anger for a long period of time can make somone a bitter fecker… and being angry achieves nothing in the grand scheme of things..

  52. I was desperately hoping for wolves to get a consolation goal yesterday, just so Hart wouldn’t get more clean sheets than Tim Krul.
    Dammit. 😯
    They really are **** tho.
We should never have let them back into that game against us. I think that was the last point they have had aswell. Doh! 👿
    Too late now tho.

  53. Aussie – it doesn’t mean we have to start blowing kisses up his rear passage either, just because we are having a great season.

    suits me fine.
