Game On! Wigan v Newcastle – Toon unchanged again

Game On at Wigan
Welcome one and all to our ‘Game On’ article which today will see us travel to Lancashire to do battle with Wigan Athletic.

Around 4,500 Newcastle fans will be present at the DW Stadium this afternoon, and it would have been more had we had a larger allocation of seats.

Unfortunately the request for extra seats was turned down down, which I don’t really have an issue with. I mean why should Wigan hand any advantage to us when they have their own agenda to worry about? So 4,500 it is then, which is still not shabby at all and I can vouch from personal experience that those travelling will have an excellent day regardless of the result!

I’m expecting a tough game today. Wigan may have lost last weekend but they’ve been in great form these past few weeks and have given themselves a real chance of staying up when it looked as though they were certs for relegation. Wins at Arsenal and Liverpool along with a home victory over Manchester United have helped their cause no end.

In contrast Newcastle are looking to strengthen their hold on fourth place and know that a win would see them go six points clear of fifth placed Tottenham and seven points clear of sixth placed Chelsea, both of whom play tomorrow.

For more in depth analysis and preview of the match, why not try reading statto’s Stat Attack or my match preview. Both provide statistical analysis ahead of the game, with news of any injuries, potential team news and landmarks that can be achieved through the game.

Team news will be added below as and when it becomes available so keep your eyes peeled. Also keep your eyes peeled for any decent streams of the match and share them with your fellow NUFC fans if you like. Unfortunately it’s not on the box anywhere other than overseas so share the love people.

Howay the lads!

  3. What a freak result this is. Nothing to do with systems, tactics or play. Just a freak.

  4. Taylor for Benny. I think that must be our tactics for the next game. Just pass the ball in the feet of Benny and after move. We will have goals like that

  5. this was our best chance today to fight for 3rd place as arsenal are being held to a draw at stoke. blew it all away!

  6. I have to say, poor performance but well done for them not letting their heads drop and to keep going, and to the fans for sticking with them.

  7. Yes but now its not our goal to come back in the game. So Pardew preserve Ben arfa I think, he doesn’t want to risk an injury

  8. I can see why RVP wouldn’t shake hands after the Wigan game ,they are dirty mind .They are as dirty as we are **** today imo.

  9. But just why we don’t start like that??
And you see Toonsy and Newkie this formation suits us best. Even if I don’t think its our tactic that makes us concede 4 goals

we need to put this debarcle to bed and beat chelsea

  12. I swear that that Mcarthur guy has made more than 4 challenges that warranted at least a yellow card each, and he is still unbooked 😯

  13. HBA-Why does it have to be formation that is dictating that we’ve played better in the last 25 minutes of a match? Sorry mate but that’s complete bollocks. We’ve played this formation for most of the match (i.e first 20mins as well?) and we were worse then.

Of course 4-3-3 suits as best, but its not because of that formation or the other formation that we lost today. The players have been *****. That’s the reason.

  14. Oh well. Don’t get too carried away people. Hopefully next season we learn to get rid of the occasional humping we seem to get (fulham, spuds n now Wigan).

But hey on the bright side we are in Europe no matter what. So let’s enjoy the last 3 games. Maybe bleed a few youngsters if possible.

  17. Danish 😉

Whey I’m going out for a Steak and a couple of beers after this to try and cheer mesel up a bit…….at least we’re in Europe

  18. Credit where credit is due. Wigan played well in the first half, got the rub of the green and played it tough in the second half. It;s just one of those games where everything one side does comes off and the other gets **** all.

The best thing about it is that it puts pressure on Aston Villa, who I’d love to get relegated.

  19. Such a shame with Stoke holding Arsenal we had a real chance today .Nevermind hopefully Spuds will lose tommorow and The Lads will play Chelsea off the park on wednesday because they owe us. 😀

  20. Shame we couldn’t get at least one goal, or pressure more when we were on the up. Just lost all momentum with Benny off….a few goals may have given us some impetus for next week

  21. Total s hite .. all of them complacent including pardew .. shud have started with hba on the bench .. never the time to come away with potential for us being so soft on the right .. embarrassment .. they’ve been totally cheap with the ball and not concentrated came out weak … p ish

      (Quote)

  22. Who are we blaming for this? Williamson and Simpson for me. It makes me feel better to blame folk. 😉

      (Quote)

  23. pardew got it wrong as we are set up as we play at home .. thats fine against teams who are perhapsnot fighting for their lives and in form .. wigan are in form and at home .. got tactics badly wrong my opinion

      (Quote)

  24. lead in the boots.
Be interesting how Pardew explains this one away 😕 ❓

      (Quote)

  25. 3 points clear in the top 4 get in 😆

Bad day, Tremendous season well done all involved, europe with games to spare…

      (Quote)

  26. The fact that people are blaming Williamson and Simpson absolutely astounds me.

Why can people accept that none of our players showed up? And that even the stars can play like absolute *****? Only Colo and Benny did anything for me today, and both of those let themselves down at points. Poor team performance all round, shockers from Tiote and Krul for me, but I blame the team, no individuals..

      (Quote)

  27. to be fair, they absolutely battered us from kick off, and are good for their win.
I said yesterday, they would come out of the traps fast and furious. Surely Pardew and co would have figured that out too ? yet we looked shell shocked and surprised.
    Gaaah ❗
