NUFC look to Ba contingency

Luuk de Jong
It seems as though every transfer window we have one of the “will he, won’t he” type scenarios, both in terms of incoming and outgoing players.

This particular window is shaping up to be no different with Demba Ba being the subject of the bulk of speculation this time round.

There is nothing to say that Ba will leave us and at least he seems happy with where he is right now if you read his tweets. Indeed Alan Pardew is hopeful that the Senegal international can be persuaded to stay on Tyneside and urged the fans to show their love for Demba in the final few weeks of the season insisting that knowing he is adored might be enough to tempt the 26-year-old into signing a new deal which would have the much publicised release clause removed.

But what happens if love isn’t enough and Demba decides he wants away? The very presence of that clause, said to be £7m, means that suitors will be lining up for him, even with his allegedly dodgy knees. What happens then?

Well apparently we are already making contingency plans should the worst happen and Demba decide to leave. Step forward FC Twente hitman, Luuk de Jong, who is said to be interesting Newcastle and is being eyed as a replacement for Ba.

The 21-year-old Holland international bagged 25 goals last term and has a strike rate of just under a goal every two games throughout his career, which isn’t too shabby at all when you consider he played for De Graafschap for one of those seasons, who ended up being relegated.

Interest in de Jong would be high though as he is being monitored by a number of clubs across Europe, but now we can offer European football perhaps we would stand more of a chance should we need to go looking for another striker?

Here is a compilation of de Jong in action. What do you think of him?

  1. If pards ends up at liverpool i’ll dance along the touch line at sjp in the first home match next season wearing nowt but a smile and a pair of bob the builder wellies… 😉

  2. Very hard to judge how good he is from that, it wasn’t until the last minute of that clip that his goals scored caught up to the misses, but if he’s as good as his stats show, then he can’t be bad
Good to see the club planning ahead regardless of whether he ends up here.

  3. Whoa. I am truly shocked to see a video compilation of a player with all those misses at the start. 😆 😆

  4. Well it’s just rumours started by the usual suspects, and it’s already boring me to tears. I doubt very very much that Pardew is going any where.

  5. He looks decent – 2 footed and good with his head. I think he would score for fun at the Toon

  6. I’d swap this guy for Ba. Ba is class but missing 2 main strikers for ACON is too much. His 1st touch is class and looks more mobile than Ba. Plus hes only 21 so plenty of time to develop which is good. I think if he’s available it’s best to get him now. Ba could leave next summer with DeJong not available!

  7. I wouldn’t be too upset if we had to replace Demba Ba or whoever with that Giroud lad from Montpellier. He looks canny like.
Apparently the chairman is playing hardball and doesn’t want to sell hm to us. 😯
seems as tho we found out he has a release clause in his contract. 😆
Just depends on whether or not we lose DB I’m guessing.

  8. Its the daily fail again peddling bullshit, The same paper that linked us with Raul and Del piero recently… 🙄 👿

  9. I would love to get de Jong if Ba leaves but it sounds like he could cost a lot more than 8M. I think that Giroud (montepellier?) is also a possibility since he supposedly has a transfer clause too.

  10. Shola could be made to look world class on a five minute video.

  11. I agree with B+B and add that you could also make Best look like a goal scorer 😀
Richie the idea is that you fill the clip out with replays of different angles etc 😉

  12. Misses a lot doesn’t he 🙄 don’t think he’s as instinctive a finisher as Ba or Cisse somehow ,still it’s impossible to really judge a player on you tube unless your Dennis Wise. 🙄 😉

  13. Should we sign Owen up Ice? He should be good for at least 3 games off the bench between injuries and all that scowling is bound to impress the younger lads.

  14. I’m with you there Icedog, there isn’t enough money to make him worthwhile. Let him go play in the MLS. Maybe the Galaxy need another overpaid player to keep Becks company. 😀

  15. Talking to a couple of lads who support a bunch of teams, mostly london ones, everyone seems to think all our players have buy out clauses, which aren’t that high 😥

  16. really hope ba stays he seems very happy and said on twitter he can not wait to be playing for nufc next season so i think all the stories are for selling papers ect.
but pards is not stupid he knows he needs anther striker for africans nations and europe next season this lad will not be a replacement more an addition.
if you look at his play he’s well suited to the prem in terms of the way he plays (shoots with power / gets a shot in from any angle as he will not get that much time with prem defences) i think he will be awsome for us and a few years to polish off his finishing and we will have another world class striker.
only concern is he is like cisse allways looks for the slightest chance of goal before he looks for a pass and ba is more of a team player in my opinion.

  20. I bet they go after Pards ,why not they’ve gone after our players its the logical step ,they’ll want Carr too I expect.

I never realised he ran his contract down and left them for 8 Mill! Hate.

  30. Ice-not on it either mate, but I don’t think Guthrie is on there officially, could be wrong mind..

  31. solano, at least he was good for them. You could always tell he just never wanted to be a Newcastle

  32. Guthries time with us was at an end, good on him to seek first team football unlike a certain M.Owen. Was never his biggest fan but I could see that he worked hard and seemed like a nice guy. Will prob go to villa but I hope he goes somewhere like reading or Swansea.

  33. On topic, I dont know much about De Jong to be honest, tgere will be lots of stories over the next few weeks so a large pinch of salt should be taken. Going on past experience, I wont believe anything until the club officially say something, as usually our signings come as a suprise!

On Guthrie, sorry to see him go. Proper honest pro and very good player. No hard feelings as completely understand his desire to get more playing time. He only has the one career.

If Solskjaer is off to Villa then good. I like the bloke and hope he does well. No doubt he’ll tap into the Manure resources too. Good move by Villa if they pull it off.

  34. inevitable unfortunately.
Good player, deserves a starting place somewhere.
    Good luck to him.

  35. Gutted about Guthrie, really rated him ,understand his reasons though. Still think he would of got a lot of games here what with cup runs and Europe and inevitable injuries. 🙁
