Amalfitano signs four-year deal at NUFC

Romain signs on
As expected, Newcastle have confirmed the signing of Romain Amalfitano on a free transfer from newly promoted French side Stade de Reims.

And as expected the signing was confirmed just after I walked out of the door to go to work, hence the slight delay in writing this as I’m now in Belgium. Anyway I digress…

The 22-year-old Frenchman will join Newcastle officially when his contract expires at the end of June meaning that he will be registered as an NUFC player on July 1st such is the nature of pre-contract agreements. The midfielder becomes the first summer signing at St James’ Park and spoke to the official club website as the news was announced.

“I am very happy to be a Newcastle player,” said Romain. “I have seen a bit of the city already and it is a change from France but one I am really looking forward to.”

“When a club like Newcastle wants you to play for them it can only be a good thing. I have taken the opportunity to play in the Premier League and cannot wait to get going.”

Amalfitano joins an ever growing French contingent on Tyneside as the club seek to extract value from the transfer market. I’ll happily admit that I know next to nothing abut the lad although he must be rated rather highly by our scouting department to warrant us making a move after spending so long in our sights.

I’m unsure what his role is going to be and whether he has been brought in as backup or whether he is here to challenge the first team but I guess time will tell. I certainly won’t be making rash decisions based on the fact that I’ve not really heard of him and he will get his chance to show me, and others I’m sure, just what he can do.

If anyone does know more about him then please feel free to share the information. I’m sure it will be welcomed with open arms!

Welcome aboard Romain Amalfitano.

…I used to use a similar trick on the BT payphones in the early 90s. Screwdriver up the returned coins slot, pop the cage open, 20ps in and straight back oot again. Free calls. And mi favourite was the 20p Bell Fruit tokens stuck to a penny with a bit of chewing gum, straight in the Metro machines.

    …from Whitley Bay…..’Haymarket, reduced fare, 15p, 85p change’ hahaha. Metro bastards. 😎

Andy, nah the Empress Ballroom was (dunno if it’s still there or not) was a Bingo Hall, Amusement Arcade and Function Room. Sitting proud in the centre of the Whitley Bay Coastline. a hive of activity, but mainly because it looked like a massive white ***, and had other attractions nearby most likely down to its geographical prominence rather than greatness.

…a bit like meeting your mate next to the geeky lanky **** in a night club.

The Plaza was the massive building in Tynemouth. That got knocked down. Shame. 😥

  25. yeah, I read that one earlier today Rich.. 8m is ridiculous… specially as we only paid around 9m for Cisse.. I can’t understand why english players have these price tags.. it is out of control..

  26. Comment from a Liverpool fan on the potential Martinez appointment.. You couldn’t make this sh*t up 😆

He is not good enough for LFC. We should be going for a famous contonental manager such as Hiddink, Guardiola or Morinho. After all we are the biggest club in Britain.

      (Quote)

  27. Aussie….even more puzzling is why clubs who generally have a smaller budget than ours, pay those prices. Cardiff who aren’t exactly rolling in it bid £5.5m for him, Arsenal reportedly bidding not much more for Giroud, it’s crazy I tell you, crazy 😀
Whey one has to get get ready for one’s trip to the beach club soon 😎

effectively captained us to promotion and was one of our strongest players that season. i remember most of us were bemused when we signed tiote as we thought central midfield was our strongest area. Will remember smudge with fairly fond memories.
