Guess Who?
Most of us, of a certain age and from a pre-Playstation era anyway, will have played a game called “Guess Who?” at some point in our youth.

If you haven’t then I’ll try and explain it to you. Essentially you have a load of pictures of different (made up) people. You then pick a card which will match one of the people and your opponent will have to guess who it is by asking questions about what he/she looks like.

Is he male? No, so then you knock down all the pictures of the male characters as you know it is a female. Does eh have glasses? Yes, so you’d then knock down all of the pictures for those females who do have glasses. It carries on so you have only a few left and then you can guess and, hopefully, you get it right. I lost the cards out of my set so I used to choose one in my mind. Poor soul.

Anyway, youth revisited, I started thinking that that game I used to play all of those years ago is a little bit like how our transfer rumours seem to start. Based on the things we know, like where we’ve been scouting, what we’ve achieved so far in the transfer market, and what we are looking to carry on achieving, it could quite easily be a game of Guess Who!

Is he French/Dutch or does he play in those leagues? Has anyone really heard of him? Does he have something in his history that could put other, perhaps bigger or better, clubs off of him? Is he under a certain age? The answer to most of those would be yes so you’d keep them tiles up.

Are they already well known? Do they have an already established reputation? Are they overvalued? Is he over a certain age? The answer to most of those would probably be no so down those tiles go.

The point I’m making is that most of the stories you can read in the press can be discounted just by looking at the way we have been doing things lately. And the most impressive thing is that a lot of the fans are now also on board with the way we’ve been playing the transfer market game.

It’s unlikely that we’ll see much transfer movement until the European Championships are finished, but I think most fans understand this and realise that it’s not always a bad thing waiting and seeing what happens.

And yes I’ve just used a game to try and get my point across, badly probably, but still….

  23. I don’t know why so many are keen to get rid of Ba….. I notice a lot have been saying ‘I’m sick of him, if he wants to go, just get rid of him!’ now for weeks, as if he’d been moaning and whinging all spring like Jose or Barton.

    And yet nothing at all’s been said by the player except positive things, it’s just the snowball building that ‘Arry started back in Jan. I know that he may go, but I’m surprised by how many are having the reaction ‘oh great, see ya Demba!’

  25. Susan I agree he was the best thing since sliced bread at the start of the season now he is not needed 😆 fickle ???.
    I have believed from we got Cisse that Ba would be away, but I would rather he stayed because he is a good player.

  33. I’ll be very surprised if we bring in anyone who we’ve been firmly linked with alreayd (apart from maybe Debuchy, providing the price is right). We just don’t do our business via the back pages anymore and it’s a tactic that’s worked so far. When we signed Tiote, Cabaye and Santon, we knew basically nothing until the club announced the deal and I think that’s how it will remain this summer.

    😆 Joking, even the “playstation generation” played that as kids 😎 . It makes the transfer market more interesting if we get to try and figure out what sort of players we’ll be after, limiting players by age, position and transfer fee, then Carr reveals its none of the players we’d narrowed down :mrgreen:

  36. I’ll be honest, I know Ba has the freedom to talk to other clubs thanks to a stupid clause in his contract, but I want loyal players who want to play for Newcastle. Tiote has again said that he’s happy living and playing football in Newcastle and isn’t interested in a move.
    For me, if Ba had any loyalty to us he would have already committed himself to a club that signed him when clubs like Stoke wouldnt touch him.
    If Ba decides to go to Turkey, you can’t tell me it would be for footballing reasons!! – I’m no expert on the Turkish league but I wouldn’t be convinced it is close to the premier league.
    Like most, if Ba does go, id say thanks for the great finish half of last season, and whatever part you played in the Cisse deal, enjoy the money playing in a lesser league.

    I’d rather spend the money on a CF rather than an attacking leftsided player coz we have Marv to come back in and I think we need another 15 plus goals a season player in.

  37. Fickles twats! He was great for us in that first half of the season and only lost a bit of form cos he was shifted into a non focal position.

    Sorry but I’d be gutted if went as we need the bodies and quality like him for all the European matches next season. Everyone knows what he’s about, he’s been with us a year, knows the place and knows the rest of the team. I’d rather build on stability like all of the other successful clubs 🙄

    I acknowledged his first half of the season, and had it not been for him we certainly would be in Europe. But the fact is the club have honoured his right to speak with other club, how long do we leave it? is he still going to be fannying on through July? I dont want to feel like he is settling for Newcastle coz nobody else came in for him.
    We want him to stay and have made that clear to him, but if he doesnt… Well surely that make HIM the feckless ****!!

    I’d be very suprised if Ba is here come August, but it could happen he has no reason other than money and CL football to leave. He’s already a full international and despite having a goal drought is adored by the Geordie public, something which he wouldn’t get in Russia, Turkey ect..

  47. Ice – spot on mate, if Pardews shrugging his shoulders then that suggests to me that a move is still on the cards.

    Andy – ya dead right, the toon fans love him, and I include myself in that but the longer he stalls the more I feel were his second choice. I’m sure it was his team that negotiated the clause in the contract, not in Newcastles interest, so it’s up to Ba to make a decision.

    Does anyone on here post on The Newcastle United Blog? Those dozy ******* are suggesting ‘Arry is in line to be our next manager???!!!!
