Would you take Andy Carroll on loan?

Would you take him on loan?
New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has refused to quell speculation linking Andy Carroll with a loan move to AC Milan.

This will of course send media outlets into a frenzy linking Carroll with loan moves here, there and everywhere, including us, of that I have no doubt.

Carroll has struggled since joining Liverpool from Newcastle, but he did start to show a marked improvement in performance towards the tail end of last season and he showed glimpses of what he is capable of for England at EURO 2012. From an outside perspective, the difference between Newcastle’s Andy Carroll and Liverpool’s Andy Carroll is simply a question of supply – Liverpool, Steven Gerrard aside, seem unable to supply him with the balls that he likes to attack, and the problem is that I can’t see that improving once Brendan Rodgers implements his tippy-tappy style of play.

Rodgers was asked what he would do if AC Milan did actually make an approach for the former Newcastle number nine, and this is what he had to say:

“It’s something I would have to look at, I have to be honest. I’m not going to sit here and say I will never let anyone go on loan, then come in here in two weeks and a player’s gone, and you’re saying ‘you said you wouldn’t let them go.”

“There are many things to going on loan. Is it going to be beneficial for the club, that’s the most important thing? Sometimes a player going out on loan – in general, not just Andy – can benefit the club in the long term.”

“It gets them game experience, and they come back a better player, a more confident one. Certainly more so than if they’ve been sitting on the bench for the majority of the season.”

“Andy’s always going to be linked with clubs, whether he was here or not. I have spoken to him on his holidays, he knows exactly where he stands, but I have had no inquiries.”

I think you know where I’m going to go with this. Would you take Carroll back on a season long loan deal?

Personally I wouldn’t, except in one circumstance which I will explain later. The reason I wouldn’t take him back? It’s not because of anything that has gone on previously, it’s not the notion that he gave up his Geordie passport when moving to Liverpool, nor the fact that he gave up what he said was his dream for some extra cash.

The only issue I have with it is that it would be a loan deal, and to me we’ve moved on from acquiring loan players unless there is a chance of a permanent deal at the end of it, which will never happen with Andy Carroll. So the option would be to take him, let him try and find form, then send him back to Liverpool a better player. No thanks…

The only viable reason for us taking him back on loan would be if we failed to get a striker in over the summer. It would help us out and give us a short term fix to a problem that, hopefully, won’t exist anyway.

It’ll never happen, but I’d be interest to see what people think, which is why I’ve added a poll so get voting!

Ice…I know you’re angry but you’ll have forgotten about it by the time you read this…..or you would have if I hadn’t just reminded you 😉 😆

  2. Yes I would take him back, but honestly I think AC Milan & Andy Carroll are made for each other. AC Milan have had a succession of big No9s over the years and the benefits to any in training with Zlatan and being in a team that plays to his strengths would be great for him and his development. Hence also for England.

I can see him Leaving Liverpool and going to AC Milan for a few years and then coming Home to Newcastle as a world superstar.

  3. Richie – re Ice 😆 😆 😆

From my list, Zaha would be the one I could take or leave tbh, I think he’s quite similar to Sammi. Was just thinking of attacking options for around £7m and he’s a 19yr old English lad who could have a big future.

  9. @85, must be nice to be able to mull over buying a club…what should I do this week…well, I could buy an English Footy Club…that might be fun.

I wish Newcastle put in a bid for Dempsey. I hate the idea of him going to Liverpool. Not sure he’d have gone up to the North, but when he said he was going to leave Fulham he did say he was hoping for Champions League Football. Neither club could offer it…he would have been worth a bid at least. Plus…still hoping to see a yank on the team some day soon.

I honestly can’t see Ashley selling the club for £80m, maybe when we were relegated and were in a terrible state financially but now that we’re one of the top teams in the EPL, in Europa next season and are in one of the best financial positions of any club in the world. My guess is it would be closer to £200m for Mike to sell now.

Your right, in my short life I’ve already discovered that the frogs and yanks were the two most obnoxious peoples that I’d met, and I was quite well travelled. Mind you some Americans are very nice, I got a free teddy and slice of cake(free) in a hospital(brother was seriously ill and was there for a week) and a restaurant respectively.

  12. I hear ya norcal. Shame when my favorite player goes to my least favorite club. Would be a perfect signing for us due to his attitude and versatility. If he goes there I hope he scores 30 goals and they lose every match 5-2

  13. I wouldn’t have him back on loan. Why get him in form for Liverpool… I’d buy him back though for £10m. He’d be ideal as an alternative when things aren’t going well in games.

Aye I saw it 😉 when I’ve watched games I’ve seen colo yelling at the team so I’m not sure but you may be right.

  15. Ice I still don’t think Jabba wouldn’t go for that 🙄 as for the £130 I thought it was £145ish mill loan and I think he paid £130 odd mill for it so noway will he lose money

      (Quote)

  16. Ice
That could work, but I’m sure mike would want back the money he forked out to buy the club + some as they’re in a better position.

  17. Andy as I said I think he is a cracker but i’ve never seen him shout at players and I have seen him drop his head, Saylor will always give 100% and his head never drops

  18. Ice @ 100…That’s the way I read that. His loan would absolutely have to be covered. He’s not going to to walk away from 130M.

Big Dave @ 95…what’s the French word for D!CK 😆
I have to agree with Andy…we (Yanks) certainly can be obnoxious at times…As a group…loud and boisterous…on an individual basis…easier to tolerate. The problem is…they’re everywhere over here. 😀

  19. I wouldnt have Carroll back , yes he is very good at what he does but it would be a step back for newcastle , we are playing good football now and it would be a step back to the old route 1 if we got carroll back

      (Quote)

  20. I really don’t see Ashley going through everything he’s gone through over the last 5 years or so for £80m like – nee chance!
He and the board have apparently put an 8yr plan in place and I’d be amazed if they walk away now.
I think even if the debt is paid off aswell, I still think Cashley would value the club higher than that.

  23. Am I the only one who don’t fancy seeing the club owned by a pack of throw money at it while we feel like it types. ❓
I look at Citeh and the way they are run and can honestly say I don’t envy them. I like our new found stability and when you achieve what we have last season on our little budget it seems so much worthier .
There was that Indian billionaire who was interested but that was different as he really was a Toon fan if I remember rightly. I would love Branson to buy the Toon ,that bloke has the midas touch. 😉

It’s been days since I last did that, it was just my iPhone f-cking up again. 😉

  25. I think Carroll is one of the best defenders of corners in the world, and is a good target man. But he’s not as good an all-round CF as Demba Ba and I’m amazed anyone would think that tbh. (I say CF as I don’t rate Ba as much on the wing.

I agree. It may be nice to buy Ronaldo and Kaka but where will that leave us 10 years down the line, we may have trophies in the the case but we’ll be broke and might be liquidated.

      (Quote)

  27. DJG I guess then you’ll be amazed because I think Carroll offers more than Ba.

Kim @ 118 I know what you mean but you tend to miss the windows when we could have brought any player in, given the choice I would prefer to win something the way we do it now but I don’t think we will but there is more chance of us winning something if we had someone to throw money at us 😕 I guess it just boils down to winning something and I want us to do that

      (Quote)

  28. Andy@123 Exactly .
I suppose some might say it’s great like a short sex filled holiday fling .Fun whilst it last but leaves you feeling let down ,cheap and nasty when it’s all over. 🙄 😉

  29. Tbh, like a few have already said, we don’t need him anymore. For me his gift to the toon was getting us promoted and £35M. I don’t want him, Shearer or KK anywhere near the club. 🙂 He is suited to a big Sam team or a Tony Pulis team. It’s not how the toon play. Ba and Cisse are much better suited to a Pardew team.

  30. Big Dave, well thats you opinion and your entitled to it but I think you are firmly in the minority on this one.

      (Quote)

  31. I think Carroll is obviously a top headerer of the ball and he has a good left foot and I have seen him score with his right. But the difference is, Ba (and especially Cisse) can go left foot, right foot, header and put them away consistently maybe 1 in every 2 or 3 attempts. Carroll is maybe 1 in 4 or 5. Carroll doesn’t have the same all round game on the floor where he can dribble away from defenders and beat people with pace. That is why he isn’t in the same class IMO. 🙂

      (Quote)

  32. I have seen Carroll finish with his head and left and right foot and as someone said he is one of the best at defending corners etc and he’s nearly 5 yrs younger

      (Quote)

  33. Agreed djg. But if carrol ever develops his game a bit he has the potential to be great. Don’t think he has the desire though

  35. Hey, anyone follow Colin (aka @CWARR07) on Twitter? He’s going on and on about Debuchy lately. Did anyone ever figure out how he “knows” so much?

It’s kind of annoying on the one hand you really want to believe him, but on the other…until a player’s pictured holding up a black and white strip in front of the Sports Direct Newcastle United Sports Direct sign, you can’t believe.

  36. Norcal-Ignore Cwarr completely. The amount of transfers he has “called” makes troy’s predictions look sensible

      (Quote)

  37. I think he got one transfer right three years ago, got a few followers, and is 0-200 since.

Newkie maybe cwarr is Troy’s source?

  38. Just tuned in. .

    Bring Carroll back on loan.?

Whye aye! I believe Cisse and Carroll would compliment each other. I’m not ruling out Ba as he can clearly score goals when playing the main striker but where Ba has been playing since Cisse arrived I believe Carroll and Cisse would make a better pairing.

      (Quote)

  39. I see Stardust reared his bitter head yesterday criticising the ability of AC . 🙄
    He also hates Saylor. 🙄

    There’s a common denominator . He hates Geordies. 😛
What a clueless snob he is. 😛

      (Quote)

  40. Wrong again Troy, your simplistic view of football really is starting to come to the fore and make you look foolish….. 😕 So you are saying Carroll is a better option to play alongside Cisse than Ba…. but only because BA is now playing out wide 😯 Why not just play BA along side Cisse in a 442… We don’t need Carroll for that 😉

      (Quote)

  41. No chance – but only for footballing reasons rather than the fact he’s a money grabbing treacherous ****
Just can’t see how he would fit into our pass and move game he’d kill our style of football, he’s good in the air but it comes at the cost of lobbing the ball into the box constantly, his ground play and speed are as bad or prob worse than Peter crouch
All this and the fact dippers would require more than 10 million and greedy fecker would want 60 – 70k a week in wages mean this is a non starter
