Newcastle bid to sign Andy Carroll

Back in black, and white?
According to Sky Sports’ North-East transfer mole, David Craig, Newcastle have now officially made an approach to Liverpool to resign Andy Carroll.

Apparently the deal would only be a loan deal for one season initially although it is “understood” that Newcastle may well be looking to make the deal permanent in the future.

As yet there is no indication from Liverpool either way suggesting whether they will accept or reject the bid, but if they did it would be rather humiliating for a club who made Carroll one of the most expensive signings in Premier League history when signing him 18 months ago for a rather handsome £35 million fee.

Carroll is “understood” to be receptive of a move back to Newcastle although I personally don’t like all of this understanding business. Maybe people are putting two and two together and coming up with five? Who knows?

What we do know is that Carroll has struggled since he joined Liverpool and has looked half the player he was when he was with us. It’s only recently that he has started to improve and he showed at EURO 2012 what a handful he can be providing the service is right.

However Brendan Rodgers isn’t exactly know for his style that depends on a big man up top so of course questions will be asked over the future of Carroll. Tippy-tappy football won’t get the best out of him but ultimately that is Rodgers’ philosophy.

It would be quite a remarkable turnaround in truth, almost too remarkable to be true. Mind you it would sort out our search for a striker, even if it was only temporarily.

What do you make of it?

  1. What will our team/formation be if we do re sign him? Im not sure where we could fit him in keeping Ba and Cisse happy. I know there is the issue of ACON again this season and injuries etc, but i can’t imagine Carroll coming to sit on the bench in Newcastle rather than the bench in scouseland!

  2. We would have to change our players to fit Carroll in. Ryan Taylor may be playing with his ability to cross the ball. Who else?

  3. TOONSY i agree with richie (for once) did he not play with a big ugly git in graham at his last club,so if true maybe hes not happy with his drinking then 😉

  4. As i’ve said I would have him back tomorrow and if he does comeback it would surly be a clear indication that Ba is going, I can’t see an England No9 coming just to cover for the Acon

  5. I wouldn’t be happy with a loan though as we are just gonna be helping liverfool out.

    All or nothing for me!

Debuchy and Carroll would be major coups tho!

  8. Ah the grand plan completes at last
Step1: Train a young Geordie boy to be a striking superstar.
Step2: Get him to sign a large contract, giving him the no9.
Step3: Sell him to a stupid club with a stupid amount manager for a ridiculously large fee, pretending like we were horrified that we lost a star.
Step4: Striker ‘struggles’ to settle in to new club causing most to doubt his abilities, and drag the supposed club down the table with **** performances.{note: make sure that the striker doesn’t score against us, so make sure he ‘dives’ to seem like he’s making an effort when he’s in fact avoiding scoring}.
Step5: After the manager/new manager gives up hope on him make a offer which is far below what we sold him for. The stupid club accepts and we get our Wunderkind back. 😎
Now we’re waiting on step 6 in which with our striker back and new fluid football we win the league.

  9. Thanks dave, a bit out of the swing of things with this changing threads lark 😉
I think Carroll would need to be the one starting with cisse/ba changing. Try and keep Ba happy at least until the end of July. Ba and cisse looked good together at times but like playing in the same areas too much and were getting in each others way. Maybe they’ll be working on that in pre season but thats how i saw it last year as 442. Carroll and either of the two would be a lethal partnership. (and i hadn’t forgotten the defending part either 🙂 )

  10. Ice there was a lot we didn’t really notice about his game because of the way Hooters played most of the time Krul had to kick the ball straight up to him and half the time it went to the opposition.
I was listening to a Lovens interview and they were laughing at the fact he was only allowed to play home games because Hooters didn’t want to play with 2 up top for away games

What i meant was that it doesnt benefit us long term, but tell me why would LIverpool want to loan him ? its obv gonna help them if they do and if he progress’ then he’ll be going back to them so i see it as a no-win situation for us….. if that makes sense

  12. Bigpapa @ 10 I don’t think Saylor would have a problem because the trouble maker isn’t there to try to push Saylor out anymore, I seen Saylor and carroll with their arms round each others shoulders after the fight

  13. good because its a big year for Taylor, He needs to play well.

Re Carroll there have been a few people on twitter claiming all week that he is coming home so maybe it’s nearly done…..

  14. Q – If he does come and everyone’s fit who plays up front? I would probably still have Ba and Cisse like

      (Quote)

  15. Bigpapa I really don’t believe we would take him just to get him back firing on all cylinder to then send him back again. So I wouldn’t worry about that mate 😉

    Andy @ 12 😀 😉

      (Quote)

  16. Big papa – can’t see us doing it without an option to buy. Wouldn’t be worth the risk of unsettling Ba, and no benefit to us long term.
For what its worth Lee Ryder said carroll knew about it three days ago. Not a fan of him as a reporter but its something i guess. Would indicate carroll is happy to come back if they went ahead and made a formal offer. The problem would be agreeing the deal with liverpool

  17. Andy @12 You missed a vital part of the plan 😉 Between steps 3 &4 should of been use part of the£35m to buy a clutch of relative unknowns who will become sought after in a year and rise us upthe league. 😎 😀

  18. Oh what joy to hear.
He has one good EPL season. Liverpool panic buy him for an extortionate amount of money.
We use that money to strengthen the academy and bring in a few, very talented key players. And then we get him back for a loan fee!… And some of you Geordies are not behind Ashley!…
Come home Andy where you belong. I will cheer my heart out to see you back in Black and White.

  19. I would prefer he goes to AC milan the other club i support, since they sold thaigo silva and about to sell ibra too. 😥 😥

Carroll would be a direct replacement for ibra height and style. 💡

      (Quote)

  20. The difference in style of play with Carroll and Graham is quite clear though, for a big lad Graham has quite tidy feet-you could compare him with ibrahimovic (obviously not in terms of quality) but graham could finish smartly with both feet, could run the channels and even sit back a bit and play some decent through balls to sinclair and others, but Carroll is very different.

We either played five in midfield or used Shola to try and do the pass work up front because he actually can and to be honest, Carroll really can’t. He’s got a great left peg and he’s a menace in the air, but I just can’t see how he would fit. He’d be as far back in the pecking order for us as he is with Liverpool imo. We had some great memories such as the hattrick vs villa, geordie no.9 and all that, I just hope people don’t want him back for the sentimental value. Just like he didn’t give a toss about us, I don’t want to throw the lanky *** a bone just because he’s having a hard time. Don’t get me wrong, I do feel bad for him somehow, but do I want him back? No, not really. 😕

  27. Ice…you know that mate, Shola is a legend in my eyes, just for his exploits against the makkems alone… 😆 😆

    I tried this sober lark, but I didn’t like it much… 😉 😉

  28. I’m not even sure Carroll would be that much better than Shola as an impact playe 😯

As a starter obviously but fr 20 odd mins, is there much difference? Maybe if we were all over a team with corners and free kicks, but otherwise?…

    Ooooh controversial 😉

  30. MM @ 36 I still don’t think Rodgers will get the BIG players to do what he wants and he will have to include them in everything, a bit like the way we were when Hooters was coach and Tugboat was running the show along with the other senior players on his committee 😉

      (Quote)

  31. Big D….Clark has moved from Liverpool, and I think he is a good man to have in the background. Rodgers will have to hit the ground running, otherwise the Liverpool supporters will be on his case pdq.

I’d rather be in our position than there’s at the start of the new season… 😉

      (Quote)

  32. Think we may miss out on him as I would assume Liverpool would prefer to sell and a club like West Ham would probably offer to buy him as they’ll be desperate for a big forward to play in Sam’s team.

  34. Looks like this only the beginning of negotiations and gonna run and run until 31 August. Liverpool don’t want a loan deal.Understandable from them, have him play for a rival club and pay part of his wages just doesn’t make sense.

  35. They might be stupid enough to accept 14m+ Nile Ranger for Carroll 😈 , two birds, one stone with that one.

  38. It ain’t over until the fat lady sings though. Even the clowns at Liverpool would never accept the first offer. Maybe it’s all just a smokescreen to show FC Twente we have other options than DeJong and get the price down – just a thought like

At the very least it might unsettle Andy and he could put in a transfer request – ” I never wanted to leave Liverpool I was forced out” LOL

  39. Genuine estmations here? What do you think Carroll is genuinely worth?

    I’d say about 10-12 mill?

  44. Speaking off Shola, he’d get very few minutes if Carroll was to come back, that is unless Demba goes, in which case we may see him on the pitch more often given the amount of games and Carrolls injury record.

  45. Nobby-

Working out what a footballer is worth nowadays is virtually impossible because of how teams like City, Chelsea and PSG approach the market.

I mean, we bought Cisse for 9mil, so in that stance Carroll is worth about 4mil. But then liverpool bought Carroll for 35mil, so in that sense Cisse must be worth about 50…

I suppose realistically he’s worth about 20mil with Carroll at about 10

What you reckon we should bid for him? 😉 we will need him for Carroll. Suprised that Dalguish didnt sign him 😆

  48. Andy-Shola is a good professional though so he’d not be whining. I guess people will say he’s lazy and will just pick up his money, but there’d be plenty of Euro and cup matches for him to play-esp given that he was behind Bestie last season as well and we still needed him.

Plus we need him for the mackems…wrap him in cotton wool and unleash him in the derbies!
