Debuchy edges closer to Lille exit

Will Debuchy be teaming up with his mate again?
The long running saga that has become the Mathieu Debuchy transfer fiasco looks like it may finally be coming to an end.

Last week Debuchy spoke to the press and revealed that he was less than impressed with not being allowed to leave Lille after 20 years of faultless service.

This led to coach Rudi Garcia finally admitting defeat in his bid to keep Debuchy at the club although he remained adamant that the France international wouldn’t be going anywhere until a suitable replacement had been found, again much to the annoyance of Debuchy as he felt the club were deliberately dragging their heels over finding a new right-back.

However it seems as thought things have changed on that front and Lille have now signed 20-year-old Djibril Sidibe from Troyes as a replacement for the now certain to be departing Debuchy. To give another indication of things progressing with Debuchy, he also failed to turn up for his first day of pre-season training after being given an extended break after Euro 2012.

I’m actually pretty confident of this transfer happening. From his best mate Yohan Cabaye telling him to come and join him at Newcastle, to Debuchy even saying that joining us was one of his priorities and that Lille shouldn’t be looking for big money for him, and even Alan Pardew saying ages ago that we were looking to sign one of Cabaye’s closest friends, it just all seems to be adding up.

Of course a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, that we know of, and I’m not one to knickertwist or bemoan our offers and describe them as “lowballing” like some do, but I firmly believe that things are further on than is being made out with this deal.

What do you think?

  1. Viduka, Troisi, Moore – none have been much good for us. 2 were past their best and one never made it.

Still have Brad Inman yet to make an impact.

  6. Dave – None were much good at Newcastle, but they had their day – Viduka at Leeds, Celtic and Zagreb, and Moore at Rangers.. They were 5 or 6 years past their best when they came to Newcastle. Yeah, they had talent.

Troisi, however, is just another run of the mill footballer

  7. Hard to say MDS, but if he keeps progressing at the rate he did this year then yes he could be in the mix

  9. I wouldn’t be confident in Good going straight into the first team. I doubt he’ll be seen for at least 12 months, if ever.

Frankly, I doubt he’d be first choice at Brisbane Roar. He didn’t particularly stand out for me last season. He had some good games and some bad ones. A lot of coaches think he will be … ahem … as good as Craig Moore

  10. Vegas, Kewell and Emerton struggled last season in the A league so even experienced players found it tough. Plus Good isn’t a diver so he will not fit in at the roar 🙂 🙂 last crack I promise 🙂 🙂

  11. True, Oz, true, ithe A-league is better than most will believe, but the pace of the PL is pretty frenetic and the standard of striker is well well above Aussie standards.

And there’s a lot more pressure and scrutiny in England.

  12. I”m please we have brought in these talented youngsters.

Amalfitano, Bigi and now Good. I got a feeling we might sign that French youngster Anthony Koura.

That would mean, Anthony Koura, Bigi, Amalfitano and Good to go with Vuckic, Fergie, Sammie, Inman, Streete, Tavernier, Abied and Gosling. I suppose we could add Santon, he’s only 21!

Still got Ranger, Dummett, Richardson, Moyo and Inman. All under 22.

  13. Now we need to bring in a first choice right back, centre back and forward/winger. 😐

Unfortunately I think we’ll only manage to get one of those.

I agree with you the whole thing is a waste of time and they are right to put playing for their clubs first, Im English not british, I cared when we were making tits of ourselves in the euros im not remotely arsed about a bunch of welsh helping us do it twice in the same summer.

Im delirious none on our lot are playing in it, But why did Bale go through the palava of wearing the GB shirt and pissing off most of wales and then make up an injury, Just have the balls to say your not interested in being involved in the first place… 🙄

  15. Vegas, I agree, the A League is a physical league but the pace is a long way short of the PL, but you could say that about most leagues.. Pardz and Co must have seen something in him…

  16. Debuchy, Douglas and Remy I’d be over the moon if we sign them!

Amalfitano, Bigi, Good, Debuchy, Douglas and Remy. Then no one can complain about Mike Ashley!
