Does Pardew have a right to tell Liverpool to cut their losses?

Pardew tells Liverpool to cut their losses
I’ve read Alan Pardew’s latest comments regarding Andy Carroll, and I’ve also read some of the reaction from Liverpool fans on the matter.

I’ll quote it all below, but essentially what Alan Pardew is saying is that Liverpool won’t recoup what they paid for Andy Carroll, and I don’t think anyone in a sane frame of mind would be able to deny that.

The reaction from a fair amount of Liverpool fans is that Alan Pardew should not be saying such things, with some even likening his comments to something Harry Redknapp would do, or, if we cast our minds back a little bit further and take off any red tinted glasses that may still be being worn, what Liverpool might have done with Andy Carroll (who knew what terms he was going to be offered prior to asking for a payrise at Newcastle and used an agent hired by Liverpool to conclude the deal, allegedly) or Jose Enrique, who if you recall was a “done deal” months before the transfer was finalised leaving Enrique to play **** for the remainder of his Toon career.

Anyway, this is what Pardew had to say, and what has caused some of the reaction amongst Liverpool fans:

“John Madejski used to say to me about certain players, ‘Just wipe your nose and move on’, and I think Liverpool are going to have to do that with Andy. I think it was obvious as soon as Brendan went into Liverpool that Andy’s time was going to have to be somewhere else. I think it’s quite right we’re involved in that.”

“Whether he comes here is something that I will take or I will leave. It’s a lot of money for Mike, although we’ll obviously be getting a big upside in terms of what we sold him for, and we’ve got three great strikers here already. But of course as the manager, I want the best players I can get.”

I’ll ask again, what is actually wrong with that?

I mean this wouldn’t have come about but for the comments of Andy Carroll’s own manager who pretty much put him in the shop window. The problem is the shop window is full of damaged goods that only might come good again.

At the end of the day we’ve bid, and we’re still in for him according to Pardew himself, which is why he is being asked questions by journalists and why he is answering them, in my opinion, truthfully.

Anyone see a problem with that?

  1. Well I hope Carroll does go to London then.
We haven’t seen a player prepared to have a bit of a cry or wear a pair of plastic tits since Gazza.
All they want to do these days is buy Bentleys, spitroast girls and act a bit rapey.

  2. Well Lads has Good got here yet or still not as you know how slow aussies are.
TLR I don’t think the kids are doing to bad against the slick skilled brazilians 😉 although as they have said its hard for them as its their 5th game in 6 days, and we hear so much about how the prem players are tired because they played 3 or 4 days before 😀

  3. Oh, and shag their team mates girlfriends. Almost forgot about that.

Jonathan Pearce said Giggs is a very classy player earlier on.
I couldn’t help thinking “I wonder if his wife and brother agree?”

  6. First time to see these young lads play so it hard to judge them but our number 9 Adam Campbell ( i think ) looks good.

  7. Agree Dave its been a tough schedule for them. Give credit to the opposition though they look useful.

  8. Two nil to the Brazilians. The boy down the right Oliviera a blistering turn of pace (reminiscent of Richie getting the drinks in) opened up our defence for a stab in at the second attempt

      (Quote)

  9. Dave never heard it said that Richie takes a backward step. Short arms deep pockets?

  10. Campbell named player of the tournament. The bairns are oot on their feet and the Brazilians are taking full advantage

  19. No way we’d let him go for so little. And PSG have deep pockets, I am sure a certain someone would try to get a lot more out of him than 7 Million. Funny though.

Oh, and good lord…258 comments…takes a long time to read through all of that. Good stuff though.

  20. regarding ac and man u …….the majority of lg to prem clus constantly have scouts at youth torniments, most likley the scouts were watching all the young players throughout the tourniment not just one player.well doneto the lads they done well

  21. If a young player plays well and looks the goods then the equation is simple for the press – Man U or City will be looking to sign them… lazy f*cken journalism at its best. 😡 Then again, maybe they are doing some good old fashion journalism…… by hacking Sir Alex’s mobile phone 😕

  22. Only 3 days left before Ba’s clause is null and void.

That’s got to be a positive thing. Countdown 3 days.

  23. @Ice

Why don’t you think Carroll is the sharpest knife in the drawer?
Do you know him or is it because he’s got a Geordie accent and isnt great at speaking on tv like a politician?

I find it strange when people make assumptions not actually knowing them.

He comes across as a decent enough lad , who has made mistakes as a youngster but haven’t we all?

There’s plenty on here who are horrific at spelling and I’ve noticed you arent tip top in that department but I wouldn’t generalise and say you were thick.

Intelligence comes in many forms. Some individuals are very clever academically but have no common sense.
Some comedians are so quick witted, almost genius in that area but have no education to speak of.

Bit unfair on the lad really .

  24. Troy, do you know for a fact that Ba’s contract has an expiry date on his contract, for the buy out clause? Have you read it or are you basing your opinion on what you have seen in the papers and on TV…. Sounds a bit like what you are accusing Ice of, if you ask me… 😎 😉

  25. Paid $8.75 for a schooner of beer last night. A schooner is about 3quarters of a pint. Mind, that was at a bit of an up-market pub. In Newcastle I paid 2 pound 30 for a pint. Cost 3 pound 70 in London. I was quite surprised at how cheap almost everything in England was.

Paid almost nowt at all for 2 weeks of quaffing vats of red wine in Galicia. I think I might retire there.

      (Quote)

  26. Oz @ 265 Didn’t you know that the details of Ba’s contract are part of the collective unconscious? Same as the mind of Mike Ashley and all of NUFC’s transfer negotiations. I’m 😯 that you aren’t plugged in, mate.

    Morning my antipodean comrades. 😉

I like the sir Troyster craic. It’s got a kind of ring to it. 😆

I only know about Ba’s contract clause by reading the local press. I have tried to gain access to his original contract to firm things up but his agent told me to F – off. 😯

I’m still trying to work out the comparison with Ba’s contract and Carrolls thickness? 😯

Did you and Begas sleep well? Or was one of you snoring? 😛

      (Quote)

  29. Troy says, I’m still trying to work out the comparison with Ba’s contract and Carrolls thickness? 😯

Well you can’t criticize someone that passes comment or bases an opinion on what they have gleaned from the internet and then make a comment that is formed on information sourced from the very same place.. You questioned Ices’ reasoning’s in regards to Carroll, saying he had never met the guy, I questioned you saying you haven’t read Ba’s contract… Same dog different leg action 😎

  30. I wonder where Richie is? He is normally out about around this time. Maybe he went out and got himself a job 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😯

  31. Rumor has it West Ham have bid £18 mil for Carrol , if its true we have a 25% clause on whatever they sell him for , would people rather the £4.5 million we would be due or would people rather we bid for him less the £4.5 mil so £13.5 million?

      (Quote)

  32. Hey, Oz, I read that Troy thinks you have a sense of humour. Sorry to hear that, mate, but I’m sure you’ll get better.

      (Quote)

  33. Johno…..Rumour also has it they bid £13m and £15m….in short, it’s bollox 😉

Richie, I thought as much 😆

  36. West Ham bid 17mil for Carroll… Thank goodness, that should make it certain we aren’t in the running.
I hope they reject it and because Carroll would be very useful with Big Sam’s dull as **** style of play. 😐

      (Quote)

  37. West Ham have reportedly made a £17 million bid for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll that would shatter the club’s transfer record.

    😯 😯

West Ham’s bid of £17 million is significantly more than the £7.5 million they paid Liverpool for Craig Bellamy in 2007 and Jack Sullivan, son of David Sullivan, the West Ham co-owner, virtually confirmed the news by tweeting: “Dad is working on the biggest signing in the history of the club – twice as big as anything the club have done before!”

Carroll himself, however, is thought to favour a return to Newcastle rather than a move to London, despite the presence of former Newcastle team-mate and good friend Kevin Nolan at Upton Park.

  38. 3HW….I hope that stories bollox too, if it means CB is not the priority also I don’t know how they’ve agreed personal terms without a fee being agreed between the 2 clubs first…..surely not dodgy dealing going on 😯 😉

  39. Aussie…invest ya cash wisely(and have a bit of luck), then you can live of ya means without working by the time ya mid 40’s 😉 …and before ya say, no I don’t claim benefits and nor have I since 16 😉

      (Quote)

  40. Carroll should go to West Ham imo. I’m sure their style of play would suit him. But his beers would be more expensive so I hope they pay him well enough 😀 😀

      (Quote)

  41. Re the sell-on clause: Liverpool-based journo tonybarrett says the clause is only active if Liverpool make a profit on the 35 million which kind of makes it void now – so a least interest must be genuine.

  42. I’m thinking its getting more and more likely that Debuchy will be our only major signing of the summer UNLESS BA or Cisse leaves.

Mate, I am basically debt free myself…own my house and everything in it it.. I haven’t got enough to retire on just yet but I have enough assets to fall back on later in life…. I have never been on benefits either.. I blew a shed load of coin traveling in my twenties but that was a great time… wouldn’t change a thing…

  45. The ***** peddlers wrote the book on how to do smokescreen bids that ashley has followed religously in recent years.

£2m with £16m to follow if they stay up is even ropier than us offereing nowt but £13.5m if we are happy with his form, Theres more chance of them being relegated than Caroll flopping back here imho.

Nice to see some progress on the Debuchy/Ba situs and really nice to read about Krul and Harper being the only two keepers training… 😀

“However, I have never said anything other than I love being at Newcastle.
“If they hear something from me about my future, that is the truth. Otherwise everything that is said is not true.
“The newspapers and I are not very friendly at the moment. For months and months and months people have been talking about me but there is nothing happening.
“Of course, I am looking forward to next season with Newcastle.
“We just have to build on the progress we made last season. For
me, I just can’t wait to start the first game.”

For once he has been decisive in his writing.

    Normally the article would read:
“the likelihood of Debuchy signing for Newcastle has increased with Ashley reportedly willing to up his offer. It is thought that personal terms may have been agreed with the player already.
Newcastle will look to push through a transfer within the next few weeks.” 😉
