Don’t call time on Debuchy…… yet!

Will Lille really be able to stand in the way of Debuchy?
As reported by ArchieMag earlier on today, it appears that Lille have put the block on Mathieu Debuchy and his move to Newcastle United.

Now I wonder if that is a wise move, but for whatever reasons (more than likely financial) Lille have decided to go against the wishes of the player and have decided that he will stay with Lille.

However I have a sneaking suspicion that this won’t be the last we hear of a deal for the French international and I still remain confident that he will end up at Newcastle by the end of the transfer window. For this to happen though the player must now try and force things through on his part if he wants the move he claims he so desperately wants.

Indeed Debuchy has already gone on record to register his disdain over the decision of Lille President Micel Seydoux.

“My desire is to leave,” Debuchy confirmed to L’Equipe. “I’m 100 per cent decided. I want to leave Lille. I’ve called Seydoux and left him a message. I’m waiting for him to call me back to clarify the situation.”

“I don’t understand it. One day, they tell me I can’t leave because they haven’t got a replacement for me. The next, it’s because Newcastle’s offer isn’t enough,” said Debuchy.

“One day, it’s the coach who’s blocking me, the next, it’s the president. I get the feeling that everyone isn’t in agreement.”

“Today, I am still resolved to trying something new, to have another experience, and I would like to have a talk with the chairman for things to be clear between us. I’m close to Yohan, and I followed his season. Now I have the chance to play in the best league in the world.”

Player power means a lot these days, even more than contracts seemingly. Generally seeking if a player wants out then they get the move they desire in the end. Notable exceptions are few and far between and no doubt people will cite Luka Modric as an example of a board keeping a player who wants to leave, but ask Tottenham fans if they feel that they’ve had the best of Luka Modric since it emerged he wanted to leave White Hart Lane and I bet you’ll find the answer is no.

The same could be true for Debuchy who clearly wants to leave his current employers, who are playing a dangerous game and risk retaining an unhappy on their books – a counterproductive move if ever there was one.

Of course I’m not saying that Lille should just roll over for us but at the end of the day we’ve been tracking him for a long time now and will have offered a value that reflects his true worth and not a value which has been inflated by oodles of press speculation plus a good couple of international appearances over the summer – appearances that wouldn’t have materialised but for a broken leg suffered by Bacary Sagna.

This saga may appear closed, but I very much doubt it is…

  1. yeah Dave, I was taking the **** with the Lille ****,but would it be any more bizarre than Andy Carroll coming back to us?

…nah, I’ll stop there 😆 …don’t want to start off a bollocks rumour. I still think we’ll get Debuchy.

Mind you, I reckon Ben Arfa’s absence today suggests he’s negotiating a deal with Man City so he can play alongside De Jong.

  12. I see Arsenal have forked out £20m for Carloza, they’re really spending big this window. Is the 27 year old worth it though? I haven’t seen much(I hadn’t heard of him before) of him for Malaga. Guess it spells an end for Gervinho and to an extent Walcott.

  15. This season will be an interesting one for the toon, I fear a turbulent year, but it’s probably to be expected following the success of last season..

I reckon that the season before a big tournament, Euros or World Cup, all of the players put in extra effort cos they want to get noticed by the managers of the national teams. Then the player has a good, or bad tournament and get’s recognised as a big player on the scene. I reckon Cabaye has landed in that category, and now that he is a big player wants to see his ambition matched by the club, I mean AP and his merry men did a great job to get him to the toon in the first place.

If he’s peeved that the club cannot get his mate Debuchy in that is also understandable, at the end of the day probably the majority of the fans would like him to come too. It’s a real sign of intent by the club, wanting to bring in top internationals. At the same time, Cabaye will know exactly what is going on behind the doors, and where the problem with this signing lies… 😉

I hope AP and his team are up to handling the “more ambitious” egos in the dressing room. I suppose for the fans that is only good, cos these players, due to their own ambition, invariably want to move the club forward. It’ll be interesting to see how the club react.

    Howay the lads..

Comparing Team GB and Australia in the Olympics is like comparing NUFC and Scotswood Social Club… 😆

  17. @MM

    I suppose 😉

Not much call for boomerang throwing in the Olympics I suppose. I know their equivalent to Fatima Whitbread couldn’t get the hang of the javelin. Her throws were that tainted by the years of boomerang throwing the javelin used to end up on the running track. BEHIND HER! 😛

  18. Fatima Whitbread, now that was a wee hen, wouldn’t like to get a clip behind the lug from her like… 🙄

  19. @MM

I always thought Fats had something about her. If you caught her in the right light and profile she used to get me excited. Particularly if the light caught her hairy legs and stubble.

Wow! I’m excited now thinking about it! 😯

And now it’s the Aussie javelin thrower. It’s a big one!
Wow! Its been in the air for longer than any other throw so far!
Wow! It’s way past the best throw so far!
Wow! Oh no! It’s heading back!
    Wow! Minus 10 metres!
    Unlucky! 😛

Troy…do you reckon the old Strongbow cider adverts were based on the Aussie javelin thrower kaduunk…!? A few more years and they’ll be right up there. Struggling at the moment though…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GE66j8Oxk_w

  21. Regarding Debuchy, it looks like Ashley has met his match when it comes to prising a player who is under contract away from the club… 🙄 also trying to undercut the selling club.. 🙁

Sooner or later the club will need to move on to the next best option…or sit tight and wait for things to transpire, which could be a long drawn out and disruptive process..

Tricky business, and frustrating for club and fans alike….

Not into the Olympics I’m afraid, though I’ve been a bit excited by our runners, esp that Jessica Ennis (is that her name?) and the little guy with the pregnant wife in the long long run.

Makes you proud to be British dunnit.

  29. Not sure if you noticed it elsewhere in the world, but yesterday there was nowt the matter in Germany when the British judges muffed it and wrongly disqualified the German Heptathlete. The athlete was later awarded a silver medal, after the embarassing and glaring mistake by the judges had been challenged.

Did they show this on UK TV at all ?

  30. JJ, they population of the UK is 60 mill, therof Scotland 5 mill, Wales 3 mill.

Saaaaf Africa is a muckle country, though with a poulation of around 50 mill.

  31. Arry at it again, this time Spuds on the receiving end 🙄 😉

‘ I would not be sure Luka would start the season at Tottenham. The club would be happy to sell if they got the right money .’ he said.

On what Daniel Levy said to Modric. ‘ Give us one more season and if Real come in, I won’t stand in your way.’

Someone needs to gaffer tape his mouth shut ,they really do.

  32. Kimtoon….Sky is probably ‘Arry’s last “footballing” port of call… 😥

There again, he maybe knows first hand what Modric was promised. The gloves will be off soon I reckon, and the prime winners will be Sky and Harry, unless it ends up in court… 😉

  33. MM @286 I didn’t even know she’d been disqualified and then reinstated. I just saw her on the podium at the awards. To be honest it was mental on the t.v last night , the crowd and presenters going nuts over Jess and then gold in the long jump so quick after and then MO getting gold , it most likely got lost in the meyhem going on tbh . What happened what was the **** up about?.

  34. Take it easy on the Aussies you bastards 🙂 🙂 even my old mate Ice is having a crack, where is my stab proof vest 🙂 🙂 🙂

      (Quote)

  35. Kimtoon, I can appreciate all of that, cos it was a mental night, the neighbours were probably thinking what all the noise was in wor hoose ! 😆 😆

The German lassy was convinced that she had won a silver medal, and in fact was kind of enjoying basking in the glory. 5 minutes after the event the crack was that she had been disqualified, and of course the German tele presenters started going on wtf mode. No one could find out what was happening. Then “disqualified” apparently appeared on the electronic score board. Ten minutes later, after reviewing the tv replays (German tv is brilliant at this kind of thing btw), it became apparent that one of the runners had stepped twice on the white line seperating the runners BEFORE they were allowed to change lanes. That was proven to be the case, unfortunatley the judges seemed to have got the wrong runner, it wasn’t the German lassy, but the Ukrainian lassy on the lane next to the German. Talk about embarassing…well done the judges… 😳

I was just curious if it had been noticed in the UK media, cos I cannot find anything mentioning it on sport web sites…

There was also an absolutely brilliant issue during the week when the German fencer fettled the Korean lassy in the last millisecond of the event, although the clock had been run down, then amazingly another second suddenly appeared and the Germany lassy stabbed the opponent.

The Korean lassy spent 30 minutes sitting on the floor crying. Flippin heck, talk about controversy !! 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  36. MM ,Well It may of been mentioned ,but I never saw it 😉 fancy mucking it up though ,that’s bad by the judges especially if more than one judge was involved like. 🙄 .
