Don’t call time on Debuchy…… yet!

Will Lille really be able to stand in the way of Debuchy?
As reported by ArchieMag earlier on today, it appears that Lille have put the block on Mathieu Debuchy and his move to Newcastle United.

Now I wonder if that is a wise move, but for whatever reasons (more than likely financial) Lille have decided to go against the wishes of the player and have decided that he will stay with Lille.

However I have a sneaking suspicion that this won’t be the last we hear of a deal for the French international and I still remain confident that he will end up at Newcastle by the end of the transfer window. For this to happen though the player must now try and force things through on his part if he wants the move he claims he so desperately wants.

Indeed Debuchy has already gone on record to register his disdain over the decision of Lille President Micel Seydoux.

“My desire is to leave,” Debuchy confirmed to L’Equipe. “I’m 100 per cent decided. I want to leave Lille. I’ve called Seydoux and left him a message. I’m waiting for him to call me back to clarify the situation.”

“I don’t understand it. One day, they tell me I can’t leave because they haven’t got a replacement for me. The next, it’s because Newcastle’s offer isn’t enough,” said Debuchy.

“One day, it’s the coach who’s blocking me, the next, it’s the president. I get the feeling that everyone isn’t in agreement.”

“Today, I am still resolved to trying something new, to have another experience, and I would like to have a talk with the chairman for things to be clear between us. I’m close to Yohan, and I followed his season. Now I have the chance to play in the best league in the world.”

Player power means a lot these days, even more than contracts seemingly. Generally seeking if a player wants out then they get the move they desire in the end. Notable exceptions are few and far between and no doubt people will cite Luka Modric as an example of a board keeping a player who wants to leave, but ask Tottenham fans if they feel that they’ve had the best of Luka Modric since it emerged he wanted to leave White Hart Lane and I bet you’ll find the answer is no.

The same could be true for Debuchy who clearly wants to leave his current employers, who are playing a dangerous game and risk retaining an unhappy on their books – a counterproductive move if ever there was one.

Of course I’m not saying that Lille should just roll over for us but at the end of the day we’ve been tracking him for a long time now and will have offered a value that reflects his true worth and not a value which has been inflated by oodles of press speculation plus a good couple of international appearances over the summer – appearances that wouldn’t have materialised but for a broken leg suffered by Bacary Sagna.

This saga may appear closed, but I very much doubt it is…

  1. The US media was all over the Korean girl’s story. I think she had to stay there on the floor while they filed her dispute. If she left the ring (or whatever it’s called) she could have been docked a point or something, so she had to stay there while the judges “sorted it out,” by which we mean “allowed it to be completely ****** up.”

Out of those 50mil only about 5mil have the opportunity to play sport at a competitivelevel and can actually afford sports equipment mate.

So our sporting population is in fact much smaller than UK.

    Kim,
Always wondered what the difference was 😉

  3. Apart from athletics and swimming. Mega wealthy professional athletes should not be allowed to compete.

Having Federer and Neymar there makes it a it of a joke
    you don’t see professional boxers

If a country wants to win they’ll put out their good players. “Shall we play Andy Murray who has a shot to get us gold and who people would like to see or do we want to see some random bloke that rarely gets far in a competition and so people will accept he’s not gunna get us a medal?

  5. Andy,

Quite simply, with the money already involved in those sports and the fact they already have their Grandslam or major events… Means there should be no place for those sporting codes in the Olympics. 🙁

I think that’s a bit unfair. These sports professionals have dreamt of representing their countries at the olympics since they were boys and so they worked hard in a sport they love to become some of the best in the world. They sign large contracts because of their ability but ultimately feel proud to wear their colours.

  7. Watching a bit of the US v. New Zealand women’s quarterfinal. The announcer just spent a few minutes talking up “St. James'” park and the Newcastle supporters. Good to hear

  8. But really, Murray did all his training before being loaded didn’t he? And there’s no payout for the Olympics like there is for a grandslam event, they’re just here to compete for the love of the sport and give the crowd a good show.

  9. This article is 2 days 3 1/2 hours old Toonsy. What’s going on 😉 , no ‘game on Den Haag’ yesterday either 😕 .

  10. Have we signed 1 or 2 players yet it is sunday after all 😆

Andy you need to get an article knocked up then since Toonsy’s hard at work 😉

  11. Some Liverpudlians and Evertonians really are douchebags. Was just on ‘The mag’ on their article on where we should aim for next season, it talked about finishing above Liverpool and Everton as our target for next season so it brought the scum out of their holes to argue with us. Both fans where generally the same “how many trophies has NU won”
“you lot overachieved massively we underachieved, expect mid table finish while we’re in a CL place”
“We thrashed you in the last game of the season so we’re better than you(I 🙄 ed as well)”
“NU aren’t even in the same league as Liverpool”

  12. MM The only article I could write is how much of a c@nt Jabba and Lambastad are.
I was thinking of doing one on the 1 or 2 new players Pards told us last week we would have in by today but I don’t think thats going to happen now 👿

We got Curtis is that not Good enough for you ❓ 😆 😆 😆 Sorry I couldn’t resist 🙄 😉

  14. I see Rondon as gone to the Russians then for £8m I think. After all the talk linking them with Ba for £7m they end up paying £1m more for Rondon .Maybe they were never in for Ba and it was press stirring going on ,now there’s a surprise. 😉

  15. So we have had Pards saying we probably won’t get anyone in ,then,’ I expect a couple of bodies in by next week’ ,then’ we hope to have 2 or 3 in within the next 2 weeks’ ,3 weeks ago and the latest is’ we will be patient and I’m happy to start the season with what I have and the main thing is we havn’t lost any top players!’. Ever get the feeling you are being primed to start the season with none of the players we desperately need. 🙁

      (Quote)

  16. Kim I have been a supporter of Pards from he came in but he is starting to wind me up with all these mixed messages 😯 I guess its a hard one for him to get right as he has maybe been told that we should have them in by today, but it is part of his job to keep us informed 😕

  17. Dave ,I do feel for the bloke ,I know he’s in an impossible situation with the press but feel he just needs to keep his trap shut really .You know ,if you can’t say for sure then say nowt innit. 😉

  18. Kimtoon and Big D it’s back to the good old days when there needs to be a sound bite every day from the manager. 👿

I’ll be happy once the blathering stops and the season starts, though we are far from ready as far as I can see.

At the end of the day, we seem to have kept hold of all of our big hitters, and despite the talk from the manager, that really is a bonus as far as I’m concerned.

  19. Can’t blame Pards, he has to work in the situation he’s in (which is ****) and with the people who run the club (who are bastards) so I don’t blame him really. If Pardew came out three weeks ago and said we won’t get anyone then many more people would be up in arms…

  20. Thing is, if they say they expect someone in ,we all expect it and get angry when it don’t happen. It’s the faffing about over one player that’s getting to me ,I wouldn’t mind but he’s not even the CB we need. 👿

  21. Kimtoon-exactly…we can cope with injuries to the full backs, but an injury to Colo and we’re buggered.

Just like last year, where we got off pretty lucky… 😕

  22. Kimtoon-Ashley may have learned, but he’s a gambler at heart, and gamblers never truly learn 😉

I wouldn’t say we were lucky we got hammered. We’re a bit more prepared now with Taylor back, Good being signed up, streete looking good enough for the step up and tav/perch able to play the position effectively. Still agree we could do with a Sakho-like signing though.

      (Quote)

  24. Andy-Not as hammered as we could have been. Colo only missed a few weeks. Imagine if he had taken Taylors place, we’d have been completely fecked and probably wouldn’t have gotten Europe.

Taylor being back is no more prepared than we were last season-he was fine then but he’s got time now again to show his injury proneness during next season, and now we’ll have a shedload more matches. I think a Tav/Wilo partnership will be decent on paper, but Willo isn’t really a leader and Tav is too green, not really a great second string. As for Streete? Maybe Carling cup early rounds…. 😕

  25. Newkie
True we would’ve been ****** if colo was in Stevos place but if that’s considered lucky then Arsenal were lucky that they didn’t have RVP injured and Spurs didnt lose modric to a season long injury.

  26. Still the same thread. Is Toonsy ok or is it just work?

I usually only pop in every now and then to have a laugh at what people are saying, but I’m a bit concerned for Toonsy’s health atm.

Or is this a new diy management strategy – write your own article and comment on it?
