Game on! Newcastle v Atromitos

In with a chance thanks to Taylor
Tonight we will find out if we manage to make the Europa League proper as we face Atromitos in the second leg of our third round Europa League qualifying tie.

With the scores level at 1-1 it would be fair to assume that Newcastle have the advantage after grabbing that vital away goal in Athens last week, but we’ve been here before remember so forgive me if I put the champagne on ice for a while longer.

We’re actually on the box tonight which is great for fans who can’t go. I’m holed up in Belgium right now so a trip to St James’ Park is way out of the question for me, but if you can go then why not get yourselves down there? The tickets are cheap and are still available right up until kick-off so you still have a bit of time to get there providing you live locally of course!

I won’t waffle on too much as there isn’t really much need to. You’ve most probably read the preview, or at least another preview, and I assume most of you are au fait with the relevant injury and suspension news? Team news will of course be published below as and when it becomes available.

As mentioned earlier, the game is on TV, on ITV4 to be precise, but if you can’t get it through your TV for whatever reason or you don’t like in the UK,then why not throw a few streams into the comments section below in an effort to help out fellow NUFC fans?

Howay the lads!

Newcastle: Tim Krul, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, James Perch, Gael Bigirimana, Gabriel Obertan, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Demba Ba.

Subs: Steve Harper, James Tavernier, Yohan Cabaye, Haris Vuckic, Adam Campbell, Romain Amalfitano, Papiss Cisse.

  1. Been thinking about this transfer window and why we haven’t appeared to have any ambition. A really frustrating time.

Could it be some kind of plan by the board?

Failure this season and no European footy next year what will begin happen with our best players??
It would be an ideal situation for fatty, surely, to have 3/4 expensive discontented players. ££

The best players wanna progress and try to win things. We are not looking to do that IMO.

Failure this season (in terms of qualifying for Europe) could lead to some massive profit for the man at the top. Is that out of the realms of possibility? 😕

  2. Well we are now without R Taylor for several months and still no defensive signing 🙁 its maddness ,sheer stupidity

  3. I thinK they were relying on a top player being sold tbh ,I do think they wanted a couple in but only if we raised funds through selling one. That would explain Pards constant references to our top players being vulnerable to the big bids right up to yesterdays press conference. The fact Tiotes injured has scuppered their plans really. I think they know they are likely to lose Tiote for Acon ,hence Anita signing and thought he’d go this window freeing up dosh for newbies.

    @Bumbling Boris

I’ve been out playing footy. Just read your posts.
I was absolutely astounded at your comments in the Fox & Hounds.

The money will never be produced. The club will come up with excuses again like they did with the Carroll money.

Suckers like you always fall for the spin.

I’ve maintained throughout, though from our last face to face conversation, I believe every post I wrote went over your head, that the figures show that the money should be there to spend but the owner will be telling you, Anita’s agent wanted £30m.

Why do you fall for such flannel? Hmm? 😯

  5. This is a pretty turbulent transfer window with a lot of higher profile players moving. Scared the pooh out of our lot.

Interestingly enough it seems as if Douglas and Debuchy are staying put. Arsenal have been ominously quiet … I hope it stays that way 👿

I think it really will be fantastic when we hold onto all of our stars. However, we do need to strengthen our squad, and that’s clear for everybody to see. Takes the gloss off the new season somewhat..

What everyone hasn’t taken into account is that it looks like we have only spent £6m on Anita but agent fees and hidden costs will double that figure.

£12m is not a bad figure is it? 😯

Actually, on top of that, we have signed Bigi, Amifiltano, Good, so with agent fees that must be in the region of £20m.

If you want to disagree with my figures, Bumbling Boris (B&B) will explain it in meticulous detail. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  15. ROTARY tell big Mike we were asking about him, because afterall he did save us from doing a Portsmouth 😯 oh and make sure he gets a good overdose on the bumble bees. 😉

KK don’t panic just yet theres lots of time left, and lots on here said he did have ambition and they had faith in him that he would bring in the players we needed 🙄 but I don’t see many of them on here 😯

KK they seem to be good at hiding and making excuses, I was even thinking today that I would love to right a thread with a poll for all to tell us if they really are happy with the way thinks have went this window, but im **** at writing and wont have the time,

  18. We should nip in with a bid for Dempsey ,Villa offered £5m up front with 2m in add ons ,but they want more from Pool cause they pissed them off 😆 . I would love it . Only joking ,would be funny though.

  23. Rotary now if he done that that would be a good move on his part as im sure he would make millions outta some of the fans that really look up to him for saving the place, but do you think he could maybe let on that he was paying rent for it just to please the likes of Troy and mesel then we couldn’t hammer him for using the space for free 😉

  25. 😆 Pardew admits if Taylor faces a lengthy lay-off he may be forced into a late move to bring in some defensive cover.

“I fear that the news isn’t going to be good on that injury, if I am honest, which is a shame because he is an important player for us. We will have to wait and see,” said Pardew.

“The Ryan Taylor injury will make me think about whether we perhaps need another defender. I shall go to see the chairman and have a discussion with him.”

I take it Lambastad said no then 😯

      (Quote)

  26. Here Dave! A kna what ya saying aboot paying for the space next to the dug oot an aal that but Divvent forget Big Mick and Dekka painted that Sports Direct sign on top of the Gallowgate roof by themselves and yi kna how much hidden costs there iz man for labour and aal that.

Howay man Dave! Divvent be Shan aboot Big Mick man. Av telt yiz he loves the Toon! 😯

MM it looks bad on Pards because he clearly wanted players and never got them, then lastnight he states that if Raylor is out for long he’ll have to go and see Lambastad to see if he can have a player, it’s clear for all to see that his hands are tied, but I wouldn’t expect him to keep getting fobbed of, because if we go on a bad run it will be his job at stake not Lambastads 😕

  31. KK, it’s just on that Football transfer rumours site ,just google Football transfer rumours and go to Dippers page. They are spitting about letting AC go without any incomings 😆 .That’s what they get for not letting us have Andy back.Ilove Karma me.

  35. Ha.

It gets painful wanting someone…especially given Raylor’s injury and Perch being out for a spell. You just think someone else would be nice in the back and honestly and experienced striker wouldn’t be toooo much to ask for…but, who knows. Perhaps in the end, just holding on to our talented players is success enough.

  36. Norcal ,At £50 a go I get my name on it cause I’m never gonna leave and don’t forget we got another window in January and we are sure to lose one or two then I reckon. Don’t care what anyone says the manager and senior players won’t be happy with the lack of ambition shown or the lack of cover to Raylor ,which we know Pards wanted he said so last night.

  37. Kim, I thought about that…maybe even my Blog name…if it would fit.
I actually kind of fancy that idea.

  38. i wouldnt blame pardew if he said enough is enough,we have the chance to move forward we have a good basic team we just needed a little spent on it not asking for big sums 15/18 mil,i wonder how the likes of m/u ect stay up there at the top,oh maybe they improve there teams every window, silly me how come i couldnt work that out 🙁

  39. Just had a look at the schedule with the 6 Europa games included. Very difficult run of games. Looks like players like Bigi, Raylor (oops he’s injured), Perch (oops he’s injured) Vuckic (he’s almost always injured) and Gosling (he never gets injured does he?) will get lots of playing time. Thank God we have brought in some experienced players to fill in when the injuries pile up. We have brought some in haven’t we Derek? Derek? Has anyone seen Derek?

  42. Little Vernon – I said there was no money because it had been spent on paying down debt. The transfer pot was, and always will be, what Mikey and Lame Duck choose it to be – neither more nor less. Just because we sell a player, it doesn’t mean that money is going to be re-invested.

You said you were waiting for the Carroll cash to be spent and that the mooted Carroll,Douglas, Debuchy deals showed there was a sum of £25m to £30M available. What don’t you get about no money, no incoming transfers?

JUST EXPLAIN TO BUNGLING BORIS WHAT THE PLAYERS YOU MENTIONED TOTALLING £25M TO £35M HAD TO DO WITH YOUR POINT? You believing the money was there? Any amount of money is there on that basis i.e. if you’re prepared to increase borrowings rather than reduce them. That’s what certain ruined clubs have done.
I can’t believe you thought there was a serious chance the little rascals would spend £25M to £30M or even that you would want them to. Do you not know Mikey and lame duck by now?

You can spend, spend, spend, but fans will always want more. You get a new player in and the lustre quickly disappears; the new one simply becomes just another player who will be out of favour before too long; Alan Smith, for example. Look at the money Chelsea have spent, and look at how they were absolutely embarrassed tonight.

I think we’ve got a good first team, and a decent squad. I’m looking forward to the season, and to seeing how the squad copes. I expect every player to dig deep and play their part. As long as they do that and we stay up, I won’t mind. Anything else is a bonus. I don’t see any point in your negativity.

      (Quote)

  43. Sadly you’re probably right Kimtoon @435. I hope we play well against Villa after this disappointment. A good home win should cheer us up. Spurs definitely look stronger, as do Man City, Everton, West Brom, Fulham, Swansea, West Ham, Stoke, Sunderland, and QPR. But don’t worry Derek has it all under control. He knows we’re going to have no more serious injuries this season so everyone sit back and relax.

  44. Well i dont think we will buy anyone today , might be wrong like , but then again when have i ever been right . 😀 😛 😯 😈 😉

  45. Regardless that there is more chance of hell freezing over than us signing anyone now but I hope we don’t. Loving the fact some of our fans are writing us off. I am quietly confident for the season a head. Complete faith in Pardew and the squad.

B+B you sound as if your reasonably happy with the club ? do you not think that things like failing to strengthen an already weakened team could be a big mistake ❓

I’m dying to hear Pardew tell us he’s disappointed first of all.
Then we will get Lambias (no chance of Jabba speaking) telling us we made genuine bids for top players but it’s in the interest of our great club with tremendous history, (as he stands in the backdrop of the Sports Direct Arena) that we don’t pay over the odds for players.

Pards will be furious and walk out for a week then come back and tell us all we will use the January window to bolster any injuries.

NOW FOR THE BASICS OF FOOTBALL.

My views are simple, I’m simple. Football is simple. Life is simple.
We finished 5th this season. We are on the verge of the champions league.

We did this with a squad that did not have to compete in Europe.

If we did not qualify this season with the squad we had how does Pardew expect us to qualify next season?

However, Pards was interviewed on TV and stated his aim this season was to finish in the Champions league qualification,

    Where’s the logic?

    Wolfie need not reply. 😯

    @Bumbling Boris

    You say;

I think we’ve got a good first team, and a decent squad. I’m looking forward to the season, and to seeing how the squad copes. I expect every player to dig deep and play their part. As long as they do that and we stay up, I won’t mind. Anything else is a bonus. I don’t see any point in your negativity.

My goodness grief. Mother Mary Magdalene. We finish 5th and have a tremendous opportunity to push on without spending anymore than anyone expected, IRO £20m and we spend £3m.

But you will be satisfied if we stay up as long as the squad gives everything.

Wow! You do surprise me. I really thought that after I embarrassed you last time on here you would be less controversial.

You really have made a prize plum of yourself with this one.

      (Quote)

  51. Dave ,I was thinking less about the money and more the fact that it don’t matter if the transfer window is closed if it’s a freebie or a loan for that matter.

      (Quote)

  52. Big Dave – It is fair to say I am reasonably happy with the club. When have we had players like Tiote, Cisse, Krul, Colo, HBA, Cabaye, Anita, Saylor, Ba, Marvo, Santon walking out in a black and white shirt? And with decent other players like Ober, Simmo, Perch, Raylor, Bigi?

Of course, I like to see us buy good players, and I like to ignore the financial side. However, although it is not my money and I don’t stand to lose my house if I spend millions, I do stand to lose my football club if it overspends. I keep saying Rome wasn’t built in a day. If we continue to make the same rate of progress over the next three years, I’ll be happy. I’ve seen the Makems spend £12M on Fletcher and I’m delighted for them. I’m also delighted we haven’t wasted millions on the likes of Strurridge, who is hopeless.

What’s your take on it? I know you say it was Jabba’s fault he didn’t do the due diligence, but that just means he wasn’t aware of the full amount owing. The club would have still had the debt whether or not he was aware of it.

      (Quote)

  53. I do have faith in the players and Pards but they still need some cover and to see some ambition by the owner.
