Game on! Newcastle v Atromitos

In with a chance thanks to Taylor
Tonight we will find out if we manage to make the Europa League proper as we face Atromitos in the second leg of our third round Europa League qualifying tie.

With the scores level at 1-1 it would be fair to assume that Newcastle have the advantage after grabbing that vital away goal in Athens last week, but we’ve been here before remember so forgive me if I put the champagne on ice for a while longer.

We’re actually on the box tonight which is great for fans who can’t go. I’m holed up in Belgium right now so a trip to St James’ Park is way out of the question for me, but if you can go then why not get yourselves down there? The tickets are cheap and are still available right up until kick-off so you still have a bit of time to get there providing you live locally of course!

I won’t waffle on too much as there isn’t really much need to. You’ve most probably read the preview, or at least another preview, and I assume most of you are au fait with the relevant injury and suspension news? Team news will of course be published below as and when it becomes available.

As mentioned earlier, the game is on TV, on ITV4 to be precise, but if you can’t get it through your TV for whatever reason or you don’t like in the UK,then why not throw a few streams into the comments section below in an effort to help out fellow NUFC fans?

Howay the lads!

Newcastle: Tim Krul, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, James Perch, Gael Bigirimana, Gabriel Obertan, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Demba Ba.

Subs: Steve Harper, James Tavernier, Yohan Cabaye, Haris Vuckic, Adam Campbell, Romain Amalfitano, Papiss Cisse.

  1. not at all Dave , I am disappointed we didn’t bring in the 2 players we should of brought in a few weeks ago like everyone else. However I don’t think its a disaster people are making it out to br. I think the squad has improved and I think Cabaye and Cisse will be even better this year for us. I think we will give Arsenal and Spurs a run for their money for 4th.

When things are desperate, there is no need to pretend that everything is beautiful.

  3. Well, well, we didn’t sell anyone – much to the distress of a few drama queens I’m sure – Tiote didn’t leave (for the 4th window in a row – what’s wrong with the guy? Doesn’t he know how Ashley works?); Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Colo, Krul, Ba, Cisse didn’t leave at the last minute. How dare they! Why do they defy history every window? 😆 😆 😆

  4. Little Vernon Troy – I note your lame response at 446.

JUST ANSWER THE QUESTIONS I PUT TO YOU. DON’T HIDE. YOU DEMAND THE SAME OF OTHERS.

I will add another question. How do you expect us to do between now and January with the squad Jabba has assembled?

You appear to be criticising Jabba so that he becomes the victim of his own success. You say we should do better than fifth, but you’re only saying this on the back of what Jabba has achieved; something you never predicted would happen. To lambast Jabba and co now, as you intend, is ridiculous and pathetic.

Is Bumbling Boris going to respond ?

We finish 5th but as far as you are concerned, as long as they give their all and we stay up then you will be happy.

Is that the case or are you going to twist and turn and wriggle like as per norm. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  7. B+B my take on it is that Jabba must have been a right silly ***** to jump in to buying the club without DD, that to me smacks of stupidity or greed because he thought he was getting a bargain and he knew that the other potential buyers wanted the time to do DD.
I also think this was one hell of an oppertunity for Jabba to get his plans for the club to leapfrog a couple of yrs because of our result last season, but with the extra games we’ll be playing and how thin we are as a squad I really think we’ll be very lucky to get top 6, and for me that will be a failure.
I also think that some of the top players will look on it as the club not showing the right ambition.

Sorry Johno it’s just that from this ” Regardless that there is more chance of hell freezing over than us signing anyone now but I hope we don’t. Loving the fact some of our fans are writing us off”
that by hoping we don’t bring anyone in, is to me like saying that you would rather we didn’t get anyone in, so that others will be proven wrong ❓ did I read it wrong 😕

    @Bumbling Boris

Of course you will add another question without answering mine.

There is a trend emerging for everyone to see.

You ask me to answer your question. Wow! Please note everyone . I answered the question @ 378. 😯

But as per norm, you miss that and poss another question AFTER I have responded and asked you a question @ 446. 🙄

You really are making a prize plum of yourself for an umpteenth time. 😆

      (Quote)

  9. Little Vernon – I was the first with the questions, so answer them. You haven’t even answered my “wages cap statement” question yet.

As to your question, yes I stand by it. If the players we have, with their quality, give their all, I’ll be happy. Anything else is a bonus. JUST EXPLAIN TO EVERYONE WHY YOU ARE MOCKING ME FOR THIS? EXPLAIN IT NOW BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER AND YOU TRY TO WRIGGLE OFF. STATE CLEARLY YOUR REASON FOR MOCKING AND THERE CAN BE NO AMBIGUITY.

I don’t think that, even if we had spent the £25M to £30M (or is it £20M you’re saying now) that you thought we would, that we would necessarily have finished fifth or better. Its an expensive gamble.

Anyway, it might be better to identify our priorities in January. Everyone wants to blow millions on the defence now when we might have no strikers in January. We might even pick up the likes of Debuchy or Douglas much cheaper then. Can this squad not last four months?

Come on Boris, commit yourself. Would you really be happy if we just survived relegation this season as long as everyone tried their best. 😎

  12. B+B do you not believe that our top players could look on the lack of players coming in to strengthen our team, as a lack of ambition and question whether the clubs ambition matches their own ❓ ❓

      (Quote)

  13. Vernon – You say you have answered my questions at 378. Please explain what you meant when you were talking about the club buying Carroll £12M, Debuchy £XM, Douglas £XM? Where have you anwered that?

Where have you explained why you believe the accounts which include the Carroll money have no relevance to how the Carrol money has been spent?

Where have you set out the balance you would like to strike between the club buying players and paying down debt? The only response to this was that its like your mortgage on your house; the debt is sustainable. In case its escaped your attention, individuals, companies, and governments are trying to pay down their debt because it is unsustainable. Many people who have mortgages who thought they could afford them, can’t. They have been kicked out and gone bankrupt and that’s with base rates at 0.5%. Can you imagine how many people will lose their homes if interest rates just go back to where they were a few years ago, say 5%. No football match tickets, no Sky subscriptions for the ordinary fan, but Jabba will still have expensive contracts to pay for five years plus. Its a changed world out there Vernon. Climb on a stool and have a good look.

So now we have Bumbling Boris admitting to everyone on here that, even though we finished 5th this season and had a full window to strentgthen to push on for a 4th placed champions league slot, Bumbling Boris confirms he will be happy if we just survive relegation as long as everyone tries their best. 😛 😛 😛 😛

  15. Big Dave – Its a fair point you make about the players ambitions, but players come and players go. Players come in, seeing and hearing other players leaving on the grounds of lack of ambition. Cabaye in the wake of Enrique, Nolan, Barton etc. They come for the money and they go for the money. To the extent it is an issue, they can see the progress the club has made in a very short space of time, and they are all playing with very good players around them. The likes of Tiote will leave for many other reasons if he is going to leave.

  16. I don’t think anyone can claim to be fully satisfied with the window. If nothing else, we needed a half decent 3rd/4th centre back.
Still believe the grass isn’t greener though
We’ve had better windows than a lot of teams around us
People say that we should retain our squad AND add to it, but who around us did that?
Can’t have it both ways. Either you are happy to sell then invest or you must be content with slowly building. It’s what our nearest rivals do anyway.
Not too fussed about strikers. Only want to play one up front anywaysoAnd as I said yesterday, we have an all round greater than strikeforce than Spurs/Everton/Liverpool/Arsenal/mackems so no issue.

  17. B+B ignore me @ 468 youve answered @ 466, on Cabaye he was brought in while Joey and Nolan were still here and Pardew himsel told us that he got Cabaye etc on the promise that they would be challenging for Europe, surely we cant convince the players after this window that we are making a real effort 😕

I REPEAT WHY ARE YOU MOCKING THIS STATEMENT. Is it to avoid the questions, you haven’t answered? IF YOU WISH TO CONTINUE TO MOCK I SUGGEST YOU ANSWER THIS: ARE YOU SAYING THAT IF ALL OUR QUALITY PLAYERS GIVE THEIR ALL, WE WON’T DO EXTREMELY WELL?

Jeeves- ” who is your brother?” 😎

    Bumbling Boris – “Troy Stavers”

**** knows why I said it but I often do it when under pressure but can normally get away with it by wriggling.

  21. Big Dave – We are challenging for Europe. We have a quality squad to see us through to January at least. I seem to remember the bad eggs leaving, especially Enrique, when Cabaye was arriving, claiming lack of ambition, but you’re no doubt right on Nolan and Barton.

My concern is that Ba and Cisse won’t be as free scoring this season as last and we won’t do as well. This is with or without additions.

You say that “Jabba must have been a right silly ***** to jump in to buying the club without DD, that to me smacks of stupidity or greed because he thought he was getting a bargain and he knew that the other potential buyers wanted the time to do DD.” I still ask what is the relevance if the club had the debt anyway, whether he knew about it or not. Its no more relevant than if he loses £20M at the roulette table, or if he makes a personal windfall on the purchase of some company stock or other. If the valuation of Sports Direct increases by £100M is that the actions of a silly *****? If it turns on somebody’s wealth or financial opportunism as to whether they’re a silly *****, then I reckon you and I are whole lot sillier than him.

Sorry went to bed last night , and I wouldnt normally go back drag something up from the night before but I dont want yourself thinking Im some sort of lunatic wanting to prove Im right to stick it to a few fans. At the end of the day we all want the same thing. I posted saying I hope we didnt sign anyone at 1030 last night , becasue at that point I didnt want to bring in anyone as would smack of been desparte. I am still disapointed we didnt bring in the players we needed but I have faith in the young guns , I dont really have a choice.
As I was on my phone last night I didnt make my second point clear saying Im loving some of our fans writing is off. That wasnt meant to be in terms of signings and that. But it does look like that. So my aplogies as it does look misleading. But I stand by it. I think we will be challenging for a champions league spot. I dunno if we will get it but I think we will be there or there abouts by May. But with fans writing us off I think it will lift the pressure we put as a whole on the team and it could be a benefit. I know it hyrpical of me to then say I think we will challenge for top for but Im from the Republic and we are all a bit weird down here 😆

And Im sorry Big Dave for dragging this up as my post did look misleading so wanted to clear that up.

Last night was the first time I’ve ate one, chewed it and spat it out. 🙂

So bumbling Boris, are you still going to wriggle today?

Tell me why you would be happy as long as we survive relegation and do our best with the players we have? 😯

I thought by finishing 5th you would rather we did our best, bought a couple of quality players and tried to push on for a champions league position. Do our best at that, but if we fail and finish 6th or above, it would be a far more realistic statement. 😉

Of course, you are going to wriggle and suggest you never meant it literally and didn’t mean if we survive relegation as surviving relegation. 🙄

Or will you? I never know what you mean as you are all over the place with you views. 😛 😳

Well if Jabba losses in the casino thats his problem because of his own stupitity, same as buying the club with out DD that was his own mistake and he should pay for that, imo when he bought the club he also bought the debt that came with it .
But he didn’t insread of paying of the debt because it was his mistake he decide to pay it of by loaning himsel the money, which then becomes our debt but if/when he sells the club you can be sure his debt will be covered, but until then he is going to make our club pay.

The point of mentioning the players totally £20m – £25m was to show that the bids we had made so far totalled that amount.

I really thought at long last the regime may be learning their lessons and started to listen to Pards.

Clearly not. I am now waiting for the lame arsed excuses that Anita’s agent fees were extortionate and signing on fees doubled the transfer deal.

All bullshit IMO but believed by you regarding the Andy Carrolll sale and subsequent buys.

This regime is full of utter ***** when it comes to fobbing off the fans.

I momentarily hoped the idiots had learned from their mistakes by failing to buy a CB last summer. Investment in the first team could never be more important at this moment in time.

Unless Bigi, Ami, Anita and Good are the answers for losing Gurhrie and Best then I stand to be corrected.

Anything less than Euro qualification next season is a major blunder IMO .

However, you seem satisfied with premier league survival as long as the players do their best.

Incredible statement from an incredible person. 😉

Please explain, if we finish 4th bottom having done their utmost to do better why you would be satisfied.
