Game On! Sunderland v Newcastle

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.
The natives pile in at Sunderland.
It’s here. It’s finally here. The 147th Tyne-Wear derby is almost upon us, and what better way to spend it than on here with over NUFC fans?

Of course you could always argue that being at the game would be better, but with tickets for this one pretty much out of reach for a lot of fans it appears that won;t be the case aside for a lucky 2,500 or so travelling fans.

On the other hand there are plus points when it comes to avoiding a trip to Wearside in person. You won’t pick up any of that stench that emanates from the area and you won’t come face-to-face with the arsehole of humanity that reside in Sunderland. The y really are a “special” bunch!

Banter aside there is more than just a match to be played today. This one is too big to be called “just a game of football”. It matters to too many people in the local area, on both sides of the divide, for it to be called “just another game”.

Last time out we saw that both managers “get it” when it comes to the importance of this fixture. Both Alan Pardew and Martin O’Neill had words during the game and it was an altogether unsavoury incident. However it’s something typifies the passion and intensity this fixture brings with it.

Anyway I don’t need to write much more. Suffice to say that team news will be added below and I dare say that people will leave links to streams in the comments section below. For now though we’ll just have to wait and see how it all pans out.

Howay the lads!

  4. Incredible scenes? Pft, they can’t even score and have to rely on us doing it for them, what was that, two shots in 85 mins after us being a man down for 60 odd mins.

  5. If it stays like this there is no shame lads and we can still rip the **** outta them for not beating 10 men and needing our striker to score for them. 😉 Also no surprise it happened after Colo went off either.

  6. Well, they didn’t deserve a point but here we go, the good luck we’ve had with decisions has run its course and we’re duly back to being ****** over by officials

  7. Hero’s all of them Pardew needs too chin the ref in the tunnel but we had a team on the pitch today imense one and all

  8. Very entertaining game! Disappointed to have given up the goal so late on.
Tiote rightfully sent off for his stupid challenge. His stupidity let down not just himself but the whole team. We had to change how we played to cover up his mess. He has been getting away with those for far too long so I hope he now knows.

  9. what a good defensive display. True grit, that was. The ridiulous red spoilt it as a spectacle, but proud of the lads there, undone by unlucky bounce.

  10. Amazing we played brilliant at times with just 10 men ,work that one out 😕 and Sunderland are really ***** much worse than I thought tbh ,if not for Ba’s OG that would of been a famous win today.

  11. AndyMag – No that’s the refs fault. If you cannot Mis-time a tackle these days without getting sent off the game is finished and ruined for the fans.

The ref had a shocker, not just for the Tiote red but every decision he made was poor – for both sides. But I would like to know how many yellow cards they got against how many we got…

  12. Nice to hear on SSN-We will kick on and go on a good run, O’neil will struggle to keep Sunderland at mid table, and will be happy if he can.

Nice to hear some reasoned unbiased stuff at last

  13. I thought we had played well today. Sending off changed the game. Colo really is the rock our team is built on. Keeping him fit is gonna be.key to our season. Ba done a great job up front by himself.

  14. Was the reverse of last season, hope that doesn’t mean we lose to a Larsson FK in the home match 😕 . Was really disappointing, we’re in a really poor position at the moment. Should be top half at least.

  15. I still believe that we can kick on from this game.. good performance from the players that ran their arses off to cover a dumb Tiote..

  16. We need to start winning games and not keep drawing. Just saying.

Hopefully cisse continue scoring in other competition. Weird considering he hasn’t score a league goal yet.

  17. Stuart-we had four yellows and the red, they had nothing.

Absolutely shocking reffing, they had one less foul than us, and most were as bad as any of ours. Atkinson is a complete tool

  18. So ,no Tiote for W.Brom L/fool and Wetspam now then ,that card won’t be recinded even Pards agrees with it 😉

  19. Happy with the 1-1, away from home playing with 10 men for an hour and us scoring both the goals 😉
I thought the defence were immense, especially Colo(MoM) and Willo 😯 …reet now to continue getting lashed.Howay the Lads

  20. I think the red for Tiote was one of the harshest I’ve seen this season. The foul was partly caused by the way Fletcher came rushing in. What did Larson get for the boot up in Gutti’s chest? Nothing!

  21. disappointing stuff, but I feel more confident than ever that we have not only the better team, but the better manager. O’Neill is a clueless tactician and simply keeps trying the same thing for 90mins. Crazy that people respect him as a manager.

Massive effort from the lads and just feel sorry that luck went against them to take away what would have been a comfortable three points.

  22. Derby – players going in hard – trigger happy ref – go in high like that after you have already got the free kick, you think he would know better…

      (Quote)

  23. Disagree with you Brisvegas.
What the ref saw was Tiotes boots 10 inches off the ground going straight into Fletchers leg.
    No excuse for that imo.
If it was the other way round we would be going mental

  24. Kimtoon

It shouldn’t be a three game ban as it was just a reckless challenge and not violent conduct..

  25. Colo is key ,He must be fit for next match as he makes our defence tick and we just look far more in control when he is in there ,we have missed him badly of late imo and MOTM for me today with his ultra cool display.
