Game On! Newcastle v West Brom

Game On at St James’ Park
Newcastle welcome West Bromwich Albion to St James’ Park this afternoon in a match in which the home side will be looking to put to rest some alarming stats against the Midlanders.

As pointed out in my match preview. we have a rather alarming run of recent results against the Baggies with only one win in seven matches against the Midlanders post-relegation and following the subsequent promotion of both sides.

Not just that but we also have a penchant for suffering after our European exploits. Both league defeats this season have followed our exploits in Europe, although I blame the fact that both defeats were against superior opposition in Chelsea and Manchester United as opposed to any lingering “continental hangover” effect. Having said that we’ve only scraped one win after a European game with the other match ending in a draw. None of the performances have exactly been sparkling but that will have to change this afternoon if we are to get anything from this game.

The game is not scheduled for live transmission here in the UK, but it being broadcast in other parts of the world. Please feel free to leave a link to any decent stream in the ‘comments’ section below.

As always team news will be up in full as soon as I can get it published. You may have to bear with me a little bit though as I’m at a family dinner right now so will have to sneak away from the dinner table to publish it. Again keep an eye on the comments section though as there is always somebody hot off the mark and willing to share the teamsheet if you look closely enough.

Howay the lads!

  1. Shamrock-I only said if it was swap for swap I’d take it, because as it stands we’re going to lose Ba for 3.5mil.

  2. Shamrock – agreed, we can’t loose Ba in Jan. It’s not being held to ransom, it’s ensuring that you have better players than the teams around you!!

  3. There was some disturbing large gaps in our defence in the first half… bit of a worry.. we can’t seem to play good attacking footy with out leaving ourselves open to a counter. It seems to be all or nothing..

  4. Just seen Bas goal on the highlights ,was really well taken .Also note they have committed more fouls than us too.

  5. Exactly Sharpy. Newkie I know mate, but the only answer to this problem should be to give him a handsome contract like he deserves and then the problem of losing him for nowt will go away. It would be unacceptable if we let a goal machine like Ba join the bindippers for next to nowt, because he will add 15 goals a season to their team and ultimately we will suffer for it… 👿

  6. Aussie-Missing the presence of Tiote a bit perhaps? I know what you mean though, but it’s how Wbrom play, they cut people open and they’ve done it to us often enough. Even Colo’s positioning hasbeen exposed a bit today, but they do have real quality in Lukaku and Odemwingie imo. As long as he doesn’t find his finishing boots…

  7. Liverpool drew then , Suarez thought he’d won it in injury time but was ruled out for a foul in the build up so no hattie or win for him and liverfool 😆

  8. Sharpy@85-Agreed. Personally I’d probably just go and give all of Xisco’s money when he’s gone to keep Ba… 😕

  9. Got to move shola from the right wing.. not working back enough and he is offering nothing ..

  10. Man we’re being bossed again posession-wise 🙁 Every team looks more comfortable on the ball than us, it’s shocking really. 👿

  11. Man I missed the first 30 mins of the first half, but what I’ve seen so far has been really poor. Insipid and lacklustre, without spirit or direction.

It was only a matter of time before West Brom scored ffs…

  12. the problem is what we just throw the ball and expect a deviation. We need to play. I think Perch and Shola must be changed

  13. So many players have disappeared… Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Shola, Demba, Jonas. Also looks like Collo is having a nightmare… 😯

  14. Benny been marked out the game ,Cabs non existent Shola getting tired and we just don’t look comfy in possesion.

      (Quote)

  15. Cisse for Shola? We need one striker setting up chances for another not two strikers competing for no chances.

  16. Aussie-Shola did track back, that goal wasn’t his fault 😕 Certainly not more so than Simmo or Colo.

Anyway, Jonas at left back, Santon at right? That what we’re playing? 😕

  17. Sorry like, I know the players play the positions, but somethings wrong with Pardew’s tactics. We cannot just rely on the brilliance of Ba and Ben Arfa to win games…. Cabaye is a seasoned French international and hasn’t kicked a ball ffs… We cannot keep the ball in the team, and are being bossed at home by West Brom. Not impressed…

      (Quote)

  18. it seems that in the centre of the Pitch we have no one only west brom players who take all the second balls.

  19. Yallright Aussie, Baltic here mate. Last weekend was sunning meself in the garden 22° and sun. Today we’ve got 1° and snow ffs… doing my head in… 👿

      (Quote)

  20. Cabaye-learn to take a fucking corner man. Let’s have Ba take them or someone else, I die a little inside every time Cabs steps up.

      (Quote)

  21. Now I know why Cabaye covers 11 km per game, cos he’s chasing the ball all the game ffs… He’s kicked there players more than he’s kicked the ball in the second half. Second best to every second ball as usual…

      (Quote)

  22. Newkie, he played the striker on side, and Simpson was trying to cover for Shola near on the whole time they were on the park. It was **** marking but the whole defence were in line except the big fella..

      (Quote)

  23. Aussie-You were telling him to track back and when he does you blame him for holding their lad on side! Simmo was a bit lost, he was in the CB position, he should have made the tackle there or just got out of Willo’s way. Colo left him completely unmarked.

Shola was on the right in a front 3, so realistically there should also have been a midfielder helping Simmo out…

  25. Dont understand having Fergie left on the bench who can put dangerous balls into the box – let’s get him on and have our players facing the WBA goal waiting for crosses!!

      (Quote)

  26. Watch of the ball, and see how many of our players are just trotting alongside the ball… Ben Arfa and Cabaye…

Where is Collo playing, his positional sense today seems completely wayward … 😯
