Game On! Liverpool v Newcastle

Newcastle head to Anfield
Newcastle head to Anfield this afternoon looking to make a dent in what has been a horrible record at Anfield over the years.

Since the Premier League began, we’ve won there just once. In fact in our entire history we’ve won just 15 times in 81 attempts on the red half of Merseyside. Not good.

The annoying thing is I already have a suspicion of how the game will pan out today, a suspicion born out of years of going to Anfield and under-performing under various different managers and with various different teams. Whatever it is, it just seems as though there is something that will always get in the way of us giving a good performance at Anfield and that must change today if we are to get anything out of the game.

This Liverpool team are far removed from the all-conquering sides of the past. They simply aren’t as good as they once where and should be there for the taking. There is no reason why we can’t get a result there today, but I just feel that we won’t. Call it pessimism if you like…

My match preview is online and can be viewed by clicking here should you wish to have a gander at it. It features injury news for both sides, a brief history of meetings between the two sides and some stats and facts for your delectation.

The game itself is being beamed all around the world and is being showed live on Sky here in the UK. I don’t envisage there being an issue with finding a stream should you need to, but if any of you guys happen to find an especially good one then please feel free to leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below. As ever team news will be added in full at the bottom of this article as and when it becomes available.

Which just about wraps it up. Lose and we’ll stay where we are. Draw and we’ll stay where we are although we’ll move level on points with West Brom above us. Win however and we’ll jump to sixth in the table, and with games coming up against West Ham, Swansea and Wigan at St James’ Park with trips to Southampton and Stoke sandwiched between, a positive result could be a massive springboard for us.

Howay the lads!

  1. Nee worries Dave, seems like they’re cracking down nowadays, or just bad luck lately. I’m off then, catch you all later for celebrations 😀

  2. Worth a shot to be fair to Benny ,it may be that’s gonna be our only chance of scoring today .What is so frustrating is their dodgy back line is not even being tested.

  3. My wife’s watching tr game with me. She thought of a decent drinking game for the match. Every time Suarez goes down, take a swig

  4. We should be running them ragged ,they are the ones who played on wednesday not us .No excuses today for not having a real right go .

  5. Not being funny but why the hell is it Taylor getting on the end of that free kick and not Ba or Cisse who arn’t exactly short arses like. 😕

  6. I expected Lpool to start quick at home, and we’ve done well to contain them up to now but it’s time to get our foot on the ball now.
    Can’t believe another injury!!
Good luck Anita -show us what you got kid

  7. Santon is trying his hardest to work down the left flank, but getting surrounded by 3 guys with no support just wot happen.

Nice try for the cross Danny.

  8. Andrew I was thinking the same always 3 men on anyone who can create ,where as we seem content to let them come at will. You would expect them to be on top at home but we need to create more going forward.

  9. See what happens when we go forward with intent and creative flair 😆 😎
Christ the commentator sounds like he’s about to cry now we’ve scored and Quinny can go f*** himself in all. 😉

  10. Get the **** in man!!!!
Was just about to write, we have a lot to work on in the second half. Now we have something to hold on to in the second half!!!
Have to keep it tight for the first 10 mins coz they will come at us all guns blazing.
It would be lush to nick a second

  11. Very good tactical work from pardew. We just switch position some guys made a high pressure in the half pitch of Liverpool and that disturbs Liverpool a lot.
Class goal, a good ball given to benny and after Genius Benny and perfect finish. One of the best half time this season

  12. Need to get HBA on the ball more in one on one with Jose. He’s the key to this game.

New to start better than we did in first half, keep them quiet then we can look for the second.

  13. Cisse isn’t playing much part in the game. never thought I would say this but Obertan or Sammy might be a better option

  14. After first 10 or so we’ve looked good, passing the ball better than them. Anita has looked good as well, he’s going to grow into a top player for us. The 20-25 minutes we’ve looked like a good side. Gotta keep tight though, that bloody Suarez looks dangerous, plus his two wing men. Good performance, though. Come on!!

  15. We all want Cabaye to do more of this. Since Nolan left we need a mid to get into double figures a season. Not scoring the seventh goal in a 7-0 win but important goals like this.

  16. OptaJoe ‏@OptaJoe

1 – Liverpool have won only one of their last 28 Premier League games when they’ve trailed 1-0 at half-time. Mountain.

    Positive stat. 😉

  17. Stuart I think Benny is key to every game but we do need to get Cabaye attacking more as i’ve said loads of time he is wasting sitting deep and doesn’t offer that much there

      (Quote)

  18. 85% – Joe Allen’s pass completion in the first half vs Newcastle was 85%, the lowest figure he’s recorded in a PL game for Liverpool. Awry

LOL. Is this a good thing or bad thing.

  19. Before any Liverpool fans get too despondent, or Newcastle supporters too jubilant, the Toon led at Anfield in this game last year before going on to lose 3-1.

    😐

So we need to start off quickly. 😉

  20. Enrique couldn’t mark Ben arfa if they were tethered with a 2 foot rope. More attacking down the right please

  21. Sprinkler has gone off, soaking front row director’s box at #lfc & providing easy intros for grateful journalists writing about Reds plight

    😆 😆

  22. Liverpool are going to be desperate not to loose this. Soak it up and hit them on the break again.
