Fee agreed for Remy

Closing in on Remy
Closing in on Remy
Newcastle United have agreed a fee for Marseille attacker Loic Remy, according to club president Vincent Labrune.

The fee agreed is believed to be in the region of €10m-€10.5m (or £8.2m-£8.7m in good old pounds sterling) which by my reckoning would make Remy the third most expensive signing Mike Ashley has made at Newcastle following the purchase of Fabricio Coloccini and Papiss Cisse.

It is understood that Remy, who supposedly said goodbye to his soon-to-be former colleagues prior to Marseille’s game against Sochaux, will now travel to Newcastle to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of sealing a move potentially as early as the start of this week.

“We have reached an agreement in principle with Newcastle and we have given Loic permission to hold talks with them. We are now waiting on developments,” Labrune told AFP.

Meanwhile former Magpie midfielder Joey Barton, who now plies his trade at Stade Velodrome, took to Twitter to have his say on the matter. He basically said that a move to St James’ Park would be good for the player and wished him the best although if you want to read the actual words they are quoted below.

“Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don’t worry I’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him. #toonarmy”

The “I’ve told him what to expect” part could be interesting given Barton’s well publicised falling out with the United hierachy… Of course I may be being a little sceptical there and Barton could just as easily be talking about our fanatical fanbase.

The 26-year-old would add some much required attacking versatility to the squad. Remy can play as a striker, winger or one of the wide attackers in a front three, which is how I see him being utilised with Hatem Ben Arfa on the other side firing in the chances for central striker Papiss Cisse to knock home. In an ideal world anyway. It was clear at Norwich on Saturday that we need some creativity…

It’s not a done deal yet, not by any stretch and a potential medical issue with the players heart may yet come into play, as could a failure to agree personal terms, but I don’t feel the latter will be too much of a problem. It’s not often agents don’t know what kind of deal is on the table before a player travels to complete the formalities. I doubt the heart problem will be a problem either but you never know…

hopefully we’ll have confirmation soon enough…

  1. BB @369 we got rid of Best because Llambias doesn’t know what he’s doing and Ashley doesn’t either as far as football is concerned. Now look at the state we’re in. Did Ashley not think Remy would listen to other offers if the wage was big enough? Time to wake up Ashley and come out of your dream world where top players play for low wages. Fantasy land isn’t going to work for you I’m afraid.

  2. Why don’t we try to highjack the Graham move unless we don’t rate him at all? He could be very handy indeed over the next 16 games. How many goals would Shola be good for over that time, one? This is very serious now. We’re exposed on the transfer market as fools once again.

  4. Wellington @379 ,Guess we’ll soon know ,clocks ticking 16 days to get a fwd and 2 CB! 😯 if Colo is off tommorow if @367 Stuart post is true.

  5. Mark, if Remy was Plan A, then Aubameyang was/is Plan B and Erdinc is Plan C. There are other, more tenuous, links if you want to have the whole alphabet filled up. 😉

(It’s not that I love the regime, but if we’re going to demand them out it had better not be on the basis of our own ignorance.)

  8. RE Jack Butland why will he want to come to a midtable prem club who already have a No1??

    No F-in chance!

Or Krul now is wanting out!

Can’t believe how much worse things have got in the past 3/4 days

  9. actually Welly. Jack Butland used to play at centerhalf at school and also starred as a forward in his semi-pro days. so there’s planB and C sorted… 😆

  10. WELLINGTON – neither yourself or mark know if we have planned targets if our first ones fail

if you cant UNDERSTAND the negativity from the fans at the moment then your not a fan. simple as.

its easy to say ‘ be calm and have faith’, it really is. if you hadnt had trasnfer windows under the regime like weve had in the past

we had a great jan window last year, pretty **** summer, now we need to make up for it in jan again and 2 weeks in all we have done is secure a summer target

so wind ya neck in trying to belittle people who are frankly fed up with the regime and its methods

  11. Massadio Haidara is 20 years old, French of Senegalese descent, LB, only 5 foot 10. Not much use to us right now. Another false lead presumably. This is looking increasingly desperate. Get Llambias out of there now Ashley and take charge. We are either going to have to offer better wages and continue to dance on the edge of disaster.

      (Quote)

  12. DIFSB@388 , he’s a LB at Nancy ,was linked with him couple of weeks ago ,think he’s 20 ,plays for France under 21’s. Should we be worried about Santon now 😆

      (Quote)

  13. If there is anyone out there who is not frustrated with our club at this point I don’t know what it would take. Llambias is a lost cause. He should go when the window closes no matter what happens. Ashley should step in and hire a football man to work with whoever the manager is going to be (even Pardew). But will he? Our recent past doesn’t suggest Ashley will suddenly come to his senses. A stubborn man who has to have it his own way even if it leads to disaster for us.

thanks for info lads on this u21 player. seems decent but yes, need other areas addressed asap

is remi streete any good? anyone seen him play? what about goode? anyone seen him? why cant they do a job? rio played full season at west ham as an 18 year old. im not saying they are in his class but they have to be as good as williamson surely 😕

good enough old enough and alla that

there are many things our club should be doing but until Ashley sells up we will as the negs from the reality train say.. . under achieve..

Next out Colo, Barfa, Krul Tiote..

Barton was right about our club and players will leave…

  16. DIFSB – if you want to start lecturing on etiquette, display some. Speaking on something I am expert in, you are doing a very good job of being rude and pushy! 😉

Mark@395 – that’s a matter of opinion. I happen to think the club will get someone in (perhaps not one of the names mentioned), but I respect your right to be pessimistic.

      (Quote)

  17. G2 – I would be frustrated if the club said, “We don’t need to strengthen” at this point, or if they declared that there was no point in signing anyone because we were going down anyway. Signing players with no PL experience for HUGE money would probably frustrate me, too.

      (Quote)

  18. G2 @399 ,I was pretty fed up in the summer when we didn’t strengthen from a great position and felt we might pay for it with the onset of injuries to key personel ,initialy thinking we’d probs finish 10th 11th but never in a million years did I think it could turn to ***** this badly. I hate being all doom and gloom but I will be amazed and thrilled if we beat the drop as we are so close to imploding it’s unreal. We may be financially sound ,but right now we look bankrupt in a football sense. No Ba replacement as yet ,a want away Captain for no fee 🙄 ,no Cb make that 2 now for 3 seasons and the possibility of Benny gone in summer . That 5 year plan is looking so good at the mo ain’t it.

      (Quote)

  19. It seems Ashley doesn’t really know what he wants as far as the club are concerned. He wants a top 6 club but he doesn’t want to pay for it. Or he wants a mid-table club but he doesn’t know how to get one (he was trying for that last season but everything went our way for a change). Or he wants a bottom third club but not too close to the bottom ie. we’ll take 14th, 15th, 16th, or 17th place please. This is not going to work. Establish a proper set of goals. Spend a reasonable amount of money for a club our size (average it out to 10 or 12 million pounds net spend per window), hire a proper MD, have a close look at the coaches. Forget 8 year deals for coaches and manager, that is ridiculous and breeds complacency. Forget hiring drinking pals. Forget thinking you can get away with not spending. Forget about selling players (Best, Forster) before you know who is going to replace them. Return to sanity Ashley. This is surely your last chance with this club.

      (Quote)

  20. Wellington , The thing is we have already had soundbites from Pards like ,well you can’t make a player sign and we hope to have 2 in before Norwich then 2 at the end of the window , and ofcourse the Remy mess of which I don’t blame the club, (though if they did their research and spoke to the agents they should of sussed he was a welshing greedy toad 😆 ). And then ofcourse we’ve also had two or 3 windows shut with gems like ,we tried our hardest but couldn’t get them over the line and i’m happy to go with what I have 🙄 Little wonder that a few are getting fed up and ratty about stuff ,it’s only human nature after all .

      (Quote)

  21. Wellington you do talk drivel.

Are people supposed to be happy that you think we will get someone in?

We need a minimum of three quality players if we want to ensure we stay up.

You may be happy as long as we get one player who is so far down the list he isn’t even ‘Plan Z’. No one else is gonna be happy with that.

It isn’t pessimistic to be dismayed with the transfer policy when it takes more than 2 seasons to buy a centre half.

Stop patronising people. Your predictive abilities are wrong time and again. You clearly aren’t the authority you seem to think you are.

      (Quote)

  22. It’s a very strange situation Wellington @403 but I still think it’s pretty much as I stated @405. Ashley really doesn’t know what he wants other than to make a lot of money. But it won’t work for him in football especially with the type of people he wants around him. We are not becoming Arsenal north. Ashley has no idea how to achieve what Arsenal has achieved and certainly couldn’t attract a manager as good as Wenger. I realize Arsenal have slipped over the last few seasons but Ashley has always claimed he admired how their club was run and I would love us to have their silverware. Can we stop this downward slide before it’s too late? It will be interesting and possibly very disturbing to watch.

  24. I really think we should forget our love affair with all things Francophile. I mean it’s not as if they are world beaters, or at the same level as years ago when France were european and world champions. It’s starting to get really on my nerves actually..

I’d rather look towards the Dutch league, get in some steady and rock hard defenders to strengthen the team.

Regarding Remy, I am not particularly fussed to be honest if QPR are willing to pay him so much money to get himself fit over the next 8 – 10 games before they get relegated. Very noble of them I say. He will turn out to be a flop at the end of the day, a flash in the pan who will find the English premiere league way too tough for him.

Am abroad at the moment and have just watched PSG at home really struggle 0-0 at home to Ajaccio on TV. Absolutely useless game, with Ibrahimovic being the only bright spot to the game. lOTS OF PLAYERS WITH POOR CONTROL; AND psg JUST LUMPING THE BALL FORWARD FOR iBRA to outmuscle the centre half. The French league is not what everyone thinks. I mean if Joey Barton is looking like a star over there then that says it all for me.

Yesterday I watched the HBA interview on Arabic tv and an Egyptian lad translated for me that HBA “loves playing for Newcastle, and loves playing for Pardew, a manager that he really gets along with”. It seems as if this may have gotten lost in translation into English, or perhaps just conveniently forgotten by the english media . 😕

      (Quote)

  25. Munich: I really hope you’re right on the Benny quotes. DIdn’t seem to be much wiggle room in the translations, but there are no bounds to the lack of intelligence and morality when it comes to the media, so here’s hoping!

  26. Thing is the media here in the uk love to have a downer on all things Toon . It must of **** near broke their hearts last year when we looked like breaking into the top 4 ,there is no denying they love us for their drama quota ,they’d be lost without us. 🙄

  28. I’m beginning to think that Wellington only started supporting Newcastle at the start of this season. He seems to have forgotten the numerous past disasters this regime have led us to.

It’s in the form book – just read it (if you can).

      (Quote)

  29. Plenty of time to worry about Ben Arfa next summer. Right now he’s not even fit and I doubt anyone would go for him this window. If we continue to lose players like Colo and possibly Krul it will be even more difficult to bring in quality. The CB position is the key for the remainder of the season although we also have ourselves in a pickle for strikers thanks to Llambias. Two key positions and we’re terribly weak at both. Does this make sense to anyone? If Llambias knew what he was doing would we be in this position? How many clubs will be in line to hire Llambias if we sack him? Entering this window I thought things looked bad for us but now it has only gotten worse. No real sense that the owner has things under control. No real sense of someone stearing Newcastle United at all. Complete silence from the owner and only desperate noises coming out of Pardew.

      (Quote)

  30. has there been any speculation regarding us purchasing a CB? apart from Tomkins, who isnt any better than Willo and would cost (apparently) 10mill 😯

      (Quote)

  31. Mark @418 Allardyce says Tomkins isn’t leaving and I believe him. West Ham just had an injury to one of their other CB’s I believe. As far as speculation there is nothing but speculation but no definite offers that have hit the mainstream press yet. It seems we’re very interested in full backs though (this sounds like bollocks to me right now). If we are chasing fullbacks and not forwards and CB’s then the club is truly mad and beyond hope. Management have a lot to answer for and they have 16 days to do it.

      (Quote)

  32. It’s gone very quiet about Remy but anything that is happening certainly doesn’t involve us. Let’s hope the club have moved on to other targets. We do have other targets don’t we Derek? Surely one of them has to be a good CB and another a forward/winger? Derek are you paying attention or have you been dipping into the wine with Ash again? Why spoil a good transfer window with unpleasant talk of failed transfers Ash/Llam when you can just get sozzled together.

      (Quote)

  33. I don’t care what nationality the next players we get are as long as they are very good and want to play football. No more whingers, slackers, gangstas and the like. If you’re young and you claim to be a footballer get out there and try every second on the pitch. Then work at your skills every chance you get. Be proud of the black and white sweater you are pulling on. There are generations of supporters and players watching you. Make us proud.

      (Quote)

  34. It seems according to BBC Sport even Haidara has rejected us. He wants to go to Italy. Fine with me we should be spending our time bringing in a CB anyway. What a crock. This is just ridiculous. What is Llambias doing or does he know? What is Ashley doing about Llambias? Who’s running this clown show anyway?

      (Quote)

  35. don’t worry Geordietwo

Pardew has already said we have identified players and have plans if we don’t get our first choice.. We’ve had scouts scouring Europe for 2 yrs now. 😯

At this rate tho we might as well make Carr redundant… what does he do again??

      (Quote)

  36. Can anyone confirm that Aubameyang is much better than Remy?ive heard this from a French associate. Thinks of he went to the PL he’s be worth £25m after one season!!

Let’s see if we can get this one ‘over the line’.

I was just thinking about the players this club have docked up on when trying to buy – done good players:

    – Debuchy (first time)
    – Douglas
    – De Jong
    – Remy
    – Gameiro

    Anyone else?

Wonder if we need to look at who’s doing the negotiating and meeting these players…

      (Quote)

  37. Carr can point out brilliant players all he wants but if we can’t sign them what’s the point? Mark I have to say this is turning into another one of those nightmare transfer windows for us. How do we change this? Surely we have completelely bolloxed it now. We’re trapped into buying in the more expensive window because of last summer but the owner won’t pay above his own limit. So players go elsewhere and rumours start about even more of our players wanting to leave. We’re close to a disaster here but there is still 16 days to go. However the game against Reading is becoming even more crucial for our credibility.

      (Quote)

  38. MARK pardew also said last week quote;we will not be beaten on bids or wages for players in this window from any club apart from, the top 4 club
clubs 🙄 more bullshit ime getting fed up with these three amogios 👿

      (Quote)

  39. Icedog this is the most frustrated I’ve been with us since the relegation season. It’s like watching a building coming down in slow motion. Every day seems to bring more bad news. Other clubs are finding ways to improve. Now it seems the owner wants a big name signing to quiet the supporters but won’t pay enough to get one. What is the point of that? Why not focus on less well known players in good leagues that could help us right now. There must be CB’s out ther better than Willo surely? This has the stench of panic and lack of communication about it.

      (Quote)

  40. Geordie2 there’s lot of CB’s out there that are better than Willo 90% of the CCC are better 😆 but we need a quality one, oh and theres plenty of them but to qualify as a potential at our club they have to have either a clause, or a free, preferably with an injury, or cost less than a few mill£ and want no more than £25k a week so that narrows it down a bit.
    But have faith we’ll get one 😆 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  41. With just 16 days left there is no way we will secure a FWD ,CB or 2 of note or half decent in time imo. We have gotten ourselves in an awful pickle thanks to ignorance in the summer and the fact we can’t bargain now due to our desperation level 🙄 It’s a b ad situation alright ,clubs now know they can ask what they want and us being us will refuse to pay it which will leave us in nomans land .Should we get a bid accepted ,we then have to hope the player wants to play for us enough to ignore a bigger payday elsewhere 🙄 .Like I said will be shocked if we pull off 1 deal let alone two or 3, that’s not to say we won’t get some future kids/prospects in .

      (Quote)

  42. The chickens have come home to roost Big Dave and they’re doing it on Ashley’s and Llambias’s heads. I hope they enjoy their roosts. I agree there always have to be strings attached on our deals. The next signing has to be a good one. A very good one. If Colo leaves we need 2 or 3 very good signings. If one of our CB’s ends up being Perch in the next few games we’ll probably get what we deserve.

      (Quote)

  43. Looks like we WILL be signing a Championship centre back then dave as our budget seems to be a few quid and an membership for aspers lol

  44. Reading showed great fight on saturday ,3 goals in 8 minutes 😯 mental stuff.
