Game On! Newcastle v Reading

St James' Park.

St James' Park.
Game On at St James’ Park
The doubt has been removed and it is now definitely a case of ‘Game On’ after the match had been cast in doubt due to snow.

However it would appear that the club and the council have worked well to clear things up and enable the game to go ahead today. Whether that is a good or a bad thing remains to be seen… Ask me again at roughly 4:45pm!

You could call this a battle of the basement, a six-pointer, anything you like, but the fact is that United must take the three points if they are to avoid being really dragged deep into the mire. At the minute we’re five points clear of Reading and two clear of the drop zone. Picking up all the points today would be a massive help ahead of another crunch clash at Aston Villa next weekend.

The game today is not being shown live here in the UK, but it is being broadcast overseas so there is a chance of picking up a stream. Once again if you happen to find a decent stream then by all means feel free to leave a link to it in the comments section below.

Team news will be added in as and when it becomes available and you can see it at the bottom of the article, just before the comments start.

Which just about wraps this up. Quite topical really, wrapping up. If you’re going to the game make sure you you do wrap up and give it all you’ve got. The lads need help and whilst sometimes they have to play a part to ignite a crowd, it’s also our job to sometimes try and drag them along.

Howay the lads!

  1. The North East giants have conceded more goals than bottom club Queens Park Rangers in the league this season and their average goals against is now three per game for their last five matches. 👿

Uh oh. I’ve just added another 6 months on his 1 yr commitment not to speak to me. 😛

You’ve got to love B&B for his hissy fits. 😛

I will not speak to you unless you realise you have misrepresented me in front of others. 😛 😛 😛

I was so close to taking my Government health warning down but then B&B went in a complete hissy fit. 😛 😛

Tell them all what I did B&B 😛

    We are waiting 😆

  3. No, no, no, no, no! People saying they ‘do not want to hear the Ba vs Cisse argument let us just support the team we have’.

I’m all for supporting any team we have but those people made some very bold declarations about how selling Ba will reignite Cisse. That once played centrally and knowing Ba and his big bottom lip are gone he will bang in goals for 3 teams.

We are still awaiting to see those goals. Let us even forget the goals Cisse looked pants today. Running offside looking along the line and clearly seeing he is offside yet continuing to charge forward forcing his colleagues to hesitate the pass. We have seen this time and time again with Cisse it is becoming stupid.

I have said Cabaye is average and every decent rare touch he makes it is thrown in my face that he should get a Ballon d’or and am forced to defend my claims. Likewise for those Sell Ba and Cisse will fire also need to defend their positions.

It is not time to forget those declarations but either acknowledge you were wrong or defend your statements! I’m forced to do so with Cabaye why should you be allowed to get away with yours?

Today Cisse had three chances and missed all three. As for Service, give me a break this is the same team in which Ba scored 13 goals but for Cisse you keep making up mitigating circumstances which strangely Ba did not suffer.

  4. Mbiwa through the door then apparently, is this as a replacement for Colo or williamson that’s the question? If it’s the later we might just be alright. The former and we’re ******.

  5. Buddy I’m just so p*ssed off with the ineptitude of the man. He never takes responsibility for his actions or inaction and always seems to deflect the blame on to someone else. The fact that he speaks a complete load of ***** every time he opens his mouth just winds me up even further. He should be commended on being the manager when we punched above our weight and finished 5th last year. Underlying everything even then though were a lot of very poor performances but individual brilliance from HBA and BA then Cisse brought home the points and left us in the dizzy heights of 5th. However preseason and early in the season before the injuries impacted, we weren’t playing well and he started to get sussed. Then we had the injuries, the hoofball, the downright weird tactics and bizarre substitutions, players heads starting to drop, rumours of dressing room splits, him spewing his typical bullshit and nonsense and it’s been unravelling for a long time. The man is only performing true to form. He seems to have a similar record in every club he’s been at – one season wonder then it starts to implode. He probably couldn’t believe his good luck when he was handed this job and talk of him even being discussed as a potential England manager by the media last summer, probably increased his level of delusion. When things are going well it’s fine, but when we are unravelling as a club like we have been doing at the rate of knots we are doing he hasn’t got the nous or ability to turn it around imo. Ashley would be mental to not act quickly and put Pardew out of his misery and help us avoid relegation.

The issue whether I want him sacked or not is irrelevant. We all know B&B wants him sacked, as far as I’m concerned his stance is the same as last month.

The greatest thing about this is, he refuses to speak to speak to his brother who accused him of wanting him sacked.

Now that is sad on his behalf but funny for Troy who stands up against hissy fitters. 😉

  7. Look at history. Sacking managers just doesn’t work. Moyes nearly got relegated in his 3rd season but they stuck with him.

Pardew needs support from his bosses.

    @Michael 12

I congratulate you on your Cabaye comments.

I’ve maintained this throughout. Players quickly get great reputations by doing little. But because they are tidy and look good with their silky little passes they fool the fans.

Rarely do I see the great Cabaye get the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate games.

Gerrard, Lampsrd , Scholes, Bryan Robson, Beardsley, cantona, Dalglish, Keegan (even toon years), viera, Keane – to name straight off my head were all great midfielders who dictated games!

Cabaye does a sweet pass once a game and the droves drivel !

Get a grip. He’s decent but nothing special at all.

    Still with you Stuart.

If there was a prospect of us attracting a better manager then it would have to be considered.

I don’t believe we can. I still believe we can steer clear of relegation but again investment is required.

  10. Yup, agree with Stuart and Troy…no matter what changes he makes, if we have the squad Pards could still save us. Thing is, is Ashley going to want to spend the money required to ensure survival, or is he going to take the cheap option in hiring a different manager….

How much more of an impact are you expecting, his corners were better than Anita, he passed it well, got stuck in. Was only just coming back from injury to boot. You don’t half talk ***** at times Troy.

  12. Listen, we will do well to hang on to Cabaye and the other 4-5 players we have at this club with any real quality… and on that note ladies & gentlemen I bid you farewell.

  14. Troy and Michael doing their usual and making false claims to support their non arguments again. It’s quite sad actually.

I can’t recall anybody on this blog comparing Cabaye to Gerrard or Beardsley or Messi or any other contenders for footballer of the year.

Most are simply saying he is one of our better players. A very good player.

He passes well, tackles well, has a good shot, good vision, and good work rate. He is a first choice France international in a very good team.

To say he is “average at best/below average” is ridiculous.

Also to say “we are still waiting for Cisse to bang in goals”. Na has been gone for just three games! Ciss has scored once. The team is in an absolute mess. Pardew’s tactics are an absolute joke. They are so defensive.

When Ba got bumped out wide towards the end of last season he lost his form. Even when he was given opportunities in the centre. His confidence was down his rhythm was off… He didn’t score for the entire secf the season…

Cisse has a superb career record of scoring. When he gets some decent support, some dec. In a system that actually suits him i have no doubt his confidence will pick up and he will start scoring again.

If Pardew actually allows more than one offensive player on the pitch at a time… For me, Pardew has been our biggest most obvious weakness thisason.

  15. Shola and Jonas on the wings… That decision in itself was a effing joke.

Then to take off Marvaeux. Then Cabaye and replace them with defensive minded players while drawing to the worst team on paper in the league in your own back yard when you are desperate for three points…
To me that is inexcusable… I cannot even see JFK making worse managerial decisions than that…

Then to publically complain about players (esp young players) when you refuse to send them on loan… Pick Ranger ahead of Campbell after stating you won’t pick him…

And finally blaming the supporters for defeat by creating a negative vibe…
Wow… How is this man still in a job… 10 deafeats in 13.

  16. Alan is now saying we need a stronger squad to take to Villa than the one that he picked v Reading..Even tho he said the squad he had v Reading, would win as it was strong enough 🙄

Its pretty obvious. Shola is not good enough and we lack goals. Sign a forward quickly…

Williamson is very poor and we concede too many goals because he’s shoite. sack him along with Nile ‘BOOO’ Ranger

Add the two together with a sprinkle of bad substitutions and you get terrible results 😕 .

    @DJG & JJ

He scored a terrific free kick.

I’m on about getting the game by the scruff of the neck and dictating games.

JJ. There are still plenty of people who drool over Cabaye as if he’s wonderful. I was just commenting on M12 post. Just look at the bite from DJG. 😛

BTW. I can’t believe I put Dalglish & KK in the list of midfielders. 😯 take those two out. 😳

  18. Cabaye – he is a good player and he is overrated (not so much by most NUFC fans, but by the media in general).

      (Quote)

  19. Troy
Tiote and Cabaye have the ability to control games as a partnership.

Neither have hit form this season. But when you have very good proven players:

Cisse, Tiote, Cabaye, Coloccini (all badly off form) – surely this is no coincidence. Surely there is something wrong.

Pardew can say the squad is weak. But is it too weak to beat Brighton, Reading, Norwich?

Please… He needs to look at himself. For as much praise as he got last season he has royally cocked up in every way this season.

Getting the best out of players – fail
    Pleasing football – fail
    Formation – fail
    Team selection – fail
    Substitutions – fail
    Team morale – fail
    Transfer market – fail
Half time talks – fail (we have failed to win 11 games we have gone ahead in this season).
Comments in the media – huge fail.
He said his squad was good enough and now? He blamed the supporters for the Reading defeat.

  20. M
I would say Cabaye is overhyped by the media as an attacking box to box midfielder.
When he is in fact more of a deep lying tenacious midfielder, who has a decent pass and takes a quality direct freekick.

He is a very good player at what he does. But he certainly isn’t a world class attacking midfielder. I can’t recall anyone ever saying he was..

He certainly isn’t “at best average”… He’s the best midfielder we have.

    @JJ

And your point is what? You want him sacked?

      (Quote)

  23. JJ

for me, he’s best as part of a central 3 with a ‘defensive’ player behind and a ‘creative’ one ahead. His primary role being to find space to receive short passes and keep the play moving i.e – his role yesterday (which he performed well)

      (Quote)

  24. What we are missing (apart from CB’s, ST’s and wingers that can cross a ball) is leaders! Cabaye did make a difference yesterday but he isn’t really a leader in my eyes. Neither is Collo for that matter and he is our captain. The transfer policy of just buying players 26-27 or younger is fine but you still need that mix of experience. We have no vocal players who are on the pitch to give the rest a kick up the ****…….. a Barton or a Nolan for example. For me you can have as much “quality” as you like but we lack passion, leaders and fight and without that when the going gets tough it’s not looking good!

      (Quote)

  25. Troy,
Yes. I want him sacked. If I performed as poorly as he has in my job I would be sacked.

Di Matteo, Blanc, Hodgson, Laudrup, Puyet…

None of them could do a worse job than Pardew.

      (Quote)

  26. JJ – But would they come and work under Ashley and Llambias who, lets be honest, have a reputation like mud and have treat people like **** previously, as proven in court?

      (Quote)

  27. Toonsy,
Ashley and co are clearly not the easiest to work under and failed to invest as they should have in the summer.

But most of the managers I mentioned worked or work under even more restricted budgets. I believe our squad is better than our position even with injuries.

The personal he’s had available should have been more than good enough for a top 12 place… Pardew has run out of excuses for me.

      (Quote)

  28. Well done JJ.

At least you speak your mind. B&B still hasn’t stated one way or the other.

I feel it’s cos he doesn’t want to be ridiculed. 😆
