Colo stays on as Captain, for now at least

Kissed and made up?
Kissed and made up?
Newcastle have been given a further boost with the news that Fabricio Coloccini will remain at Newcastle United until at least the end of the season.

Colo had reportedly been looking to move back to Argentina amidst personal problems, but the fact that he is tied down to a contract has prevented him from doing so as United failed to let one of their prize assets leave for nothing.

The most surprising thing for me is that he will retain the captaincy, which is good news of course. Presumably player and manager have been in dialogue and Alan Pardew is happy enough with the focus and commitment of Coloccini ahead of the final 15 games of the season. I also presume more talks will be planned for the summer when the ultimate decision over his future will be made.

“Coloccini is going to stay with us and will remain as captain, which is fantastic news for us,” Pardew told the club website.

“We have managed to persuade him that, as much as his family, we need him. He has shown fantastic loyalty to continue playing and see us through to the summer at the very least.”

“It’s a situation that me and Colo have been on a personal journey, to make sure that he understands that he has a big responsibility here to fans and to families of this Club.”

“This Club has been relegated once before and people lost their jobs here. We need in and around us, and I’m pleased to say he has agreed to accept that.”

This “personal journey” sounds very happy-clappy to me but if it’s worked then fair enough. The fact is that we need experience in our situation and Colo has been through it all before. It also gives us a chance to integrate the new signings rather than launching them in unaided.

So it’s finally sorted and at least a temporary line can be drawn underneath it all. If Colo does only stay until the summer then at least it gives us a chance to replace him properly rather than leaving us with six days or less to fill his boots. Mind you the rate we’ve been making signings this week, six days would be ample time!

More good news! I could get used to this…

  1. Toonsy – are you on holiday? The articles are pouring out as fast as our signings come in. What a week! Just wish we could get 3 points for it!!!

  2. God your quick with these articles Toonsy ,well done ,you must be getting cramp in your fingers by now 😆
Re Colo ,glad he has decided to stay put for this season at least ,as you say easier to replace in the summer than now. I hope his head is o.k and the disappointment at not going home has not had a detrimental effect on him .To be fair in the last two games he’s been fine but he was a bit iffy previously which I thought was the dodgy defence problems but in retrospect could be more to do with his personal problems he was going through. Anyway glad he didn’t do a Tevez on us as would of been a rotten way to end our relationship with him .

  3. Kim – It seems that his “personal problems” were going on before he signed his new deal according to people who know more than me like George Caulkin. That says a lot…

It all says a lot that as soon as losing money comes into the equation suddenly his mind is changed 😆

  4. I think Toonsy has had a bet with ED Harrison who can turn out most article’s in one transfer period 😉 so long as the lad keeps performing all well and good but this **** over him leaving will start again as soon as we avoid relegation .

      (Quote)

  5. Not just good news but well written , thought out and not sensationalist unlike ED’S has become . Keep it up Toonsy ❗

  6. Good write up – The way I’m seeing this is Pardew has obviously felt satisfied with him to continue as Captain, but if he took the Captaincy off him it would obviously make it easier for him to leave in May. Pardew must feel more confident of keeping him by keeping him as Captain and improving the team around him.

I am almost certain if we were 7/8th this year, this would never of happened, obvioulsy we will never find out now.

  8. Great news on Sissoko but according to SSN he was on his way over ,so how has he already signed ,confused 😕

  9. SSN are slow out of the blocks. Reporting much faster in France. Some good reporters on twitter that seem to have the inside track so far. Hopefully this one is just as accurate

  11. With all the signings my first guess is that Ashley will sell Tiote in the summer to recoup some of his investment. With Sissoko, Cabaye, Anita and possibly Thauvin in central midfield we seem set. Still need that final piece, a striker now that Colo is staying until summer though.

  14. G2 ,I agree ,we will soon see how strong we are with our additions ,but we defo need another forward as if Cisse were injured it all falls on Gouffran and Shola ,the latter being as sharp in front of goal as a feather and Gouffran may need time to adjust . If we sell Tiote in the summer we could invest in another CB who can cover as a dmf like Mbiwa can ,that would give us options at the back as well as dfmf. Alternativly Chris Samba is unhappy in Russia and he is a CB who can play as a forward too ,would be a good shout also has PL experience , though at £10/12m could be too rich for Ashley.

      (Quote)

  15. Starting to wonder if i want a striker or not…To me it seems serious competition can cripple Cisse, I don’t want him a shuddering mess by the summer…I think a versatile winger/forward like goofy was the right shout.

  16. Just saw the comments at the end of the last thread. Seems like Toonsy is a teacher telling off some pupils 😆

  17. Thought that Sissoko was already over here. Still some way to go it seems despite all the positives noises.

Sissoko in and some money from Simpson sale and I’m fine with this window, we have enough cover, unless Cissé gets a serious injury. In the summer we can go after the st Etiene forward PMA.

  19. This was in the Chron from Ryder – “Sissoko’s arrival on Tyneside last night capped another manic day for the Magpies in the window.”

      (Quote)

  20. Talk about arseholes,Wenger is saying Newcastle should not be allowed to sign that many players in this window its not fair on the other clubs who have not played them, there should be a limit of two players in this window

  21. get-in, done deal for sissoko.

Can’t wait to see Colo and Mbiwa 2gether.

If colo wants out. he’ll surely be bought? 3mil plus for a 31 yr old. he’s got 3.5yrs left on his contract.

I reckon he might end up staying if we do well.

  22. @F8Piraux: Moussa Sissoko currently in Newcastle for his medical and to sign his contract with the Magpies ! (Beinsport) #NUFC

  23. Icedog-He’s a decent manager with a good philosophy, but sweet fucking christ does he moan and ***** his way out of being likeable 😆

      (Quote)

  24. I don.t think Colo had anyother option than to accept that he stays with the club.
How he can be captain of a club that he is being forced to stay at because he would rather be at san lorenzo is beyond me, but I would say its in name only as im sure the players will habe their own choice.

      (Quote)

  25. Fckin hell, knew Sissoko was fast, but the amount of running he’s done between Newcastle and France in the last 24 hours is mental 😉

      (Quote)

  26. NEWKIE aye mate but have you never noticed he is only “nice”when he is winning otherwise he’s a **** bloody bad loser

      (Quote)

  27. Ice-Yeah mate, he can actually be quite funny when he’s winning, but if he gets beaten it’s everyone elses fault.

Hopefully our frenchies have a different mentality…

      (Quote)

  28. Toonsy… i think it only correct that if colo stays he keeps his band. to have him stay then strip him of it is daft. its like picking your mate up from a scrape then as soon as you have helped him, kick him in the nads. It looks like they have all arrived at the juncture that he stays till summer then its looked at once again. As an expert at divorces, chances are that Colo will see things in a much different light in a few months time. Two wrongs never make a right and if we have asked him to stay as we need him, which we do, we have to have the decency to want him to continue his role as captain. I would have been much more shocked had he stayed and we stripped him of the captaincy tbh. I do expect it to be cabaye next season though.

      (Quote)

  29. We all agreed then? Villa beat us we sack Pards? 😆

“They’ll need time to bed in” … I hear you cry!

    Let’s hope it isn’t 15 games…

      (Quote)

  30. Moreno 😉

It’s tough really…Pards’ position is definitely stronger in the short term-people are slighty happier and like you said “bedding in” of players…but the expectation is so much more, with this team, virtually all internationals across the board-any loss won;t have the old scapegoats of Simmo, Willo or Shola…

      (Quote)

  31. Altho I do wonder how long it will take before Mbiwa, Sissoko and Gouffran are labelled “**** players”-my guess is about 2 games for some. As happened with Anita earlier in the season…

      (Quote)

  32. Newkie,

They can’t please everyone but as long as they please me I couldn’t really give a sh*t 😆

  33. if it true about Sissoko waiving his rights to a sign-on- fee, to make sure this deal goes throu, i’d say we have not just an excellcent player, but an excellent person , whom it seems WANTS to play for us 😛 (re- BA)
Fatman must of won a shed load at the casinos lately, unless he plans to sell a few big names in the summer transfer window to get his money back 🙁 🙁
finally, bout time Ranger had his contract ripped up, and is kicked out of the club, 😐 😐

      (Quote)

  34. I see Ranger’s up on a rape charge now. What a disgusting waste of space he is. Surely he has to be gotten rid of asap. Nothing but trouble since his first year or so with us. We don’t need him around the club at all. 👿

      (Quote)

  35. Moreno-Here here 😆

How are you coming along in the fantasy football league anyway, weren’t you supposed to be doing updates? Only heard one from that…I need to gloat after finally getting to a respectable position 😀

Toonsoldier-wouldn’t read too much into the waiving of a sign on fee, after all, he’s likely to be on double the wages he was previously 😉

Also yeah, if Ranger has in fact raped someone that will be the end of his career and presumably 15 years or so of his life, depending on what actually happened…. Innocent till proven guilty of course, and as Toonsy says there’s always the chance some tart made it up, but he’s such a distraction I don’t see why we don’t just cancel the contract now..

      (Quote)

  36. GT
And to think he gets onto the bench & pitch ahead of Campbell 😡 . I’m with Toonsy and Newkie though, innocent until proven if the girl is telling the truth.

      (Quote)

  37. Newkie,

Every single year I go in with the intention of doing it, select a team, forget about it and come in last. Although I recall I had Van Persie as my captain so may not be rock bottom.

Tell you what, just for you I’ll do a transfer round-up fantasy football update with positions 😉

    ….remind me though…. 🙄 😆

      (Quote)

  38. Sammy truly is hilarious on twitter like. I just hope he lives up to his brothers standard and becomes an all time great

      (Quote)

  39. Moreno-I’ll let you off, just for that comment at 53 😆

To be honest I was only getting into it because we were doing go badly. When we play gash as well I hate watching other footie sides esp Prem, so bad seasons become my football manager/fantasy football seasons, good seasons become my bragging seasons where I’m not afraid to show my face in the manure/scouse dominated pubs.

      (Quote)

  40. Absolutely, Ranger has to be given a fair trial and he’s innocent until proven guilty but he is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Constant trouble with the police. Give Campbell his playing time or bring someone in to benefit. As for Pardew he knows the supporters will expect steady improvement in play now. If he looks out of his depth and continues to make poor subs he will only undermine his own position. With these quality players coming in there can be no more excuses.

    Fantastic news on Sissoko! 😯 😯 😎

    Typically shocking news on Ranger.

What a fucking arsehole that kid is. He’s not just a ****, he’s clearly delusional. Probably needs medical attention actually.

I hope he gets found guilty on this latest charge, regardless of whether he’s guilty or not. What a c*nt. Well and truly sick of the sight of him.

    Embarrassment to the club.

Newkie – think the kids got his heart set QPR to be honest, and they can have him. I’d like to see PEA or RVW – who I see Norwich are reportedly after 😯
