Vote: Would you be happy if the transfer window ended now?

Signing #1 this January
Signing #1 this January
So we’ve not done so bad in this transfer window so far. Much better than I thought we’d do anyway.

Granted we’ve lost Demba Ba although I don’t think there was much that could have been done about that. Once a club he wanted to go to met his release clause we would have always been on shaky ground.

However in terms of players in we have just under half of a new starting eleven to pick from should we choose to do so. Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara, Yoan Gouffran and, most recently, Moussa Sissoko have joined the ranks at St James’ Park giving us more options all over the pitch and more strength in depth which is something that has proved costly this season. To top it all off, Fabricio Coloccini stays at Newcastle for the time being at least.

Personally I get the feeling our business is done now though. I don’t know why but it was just the way that Alan Pardew was talking after the Sissoko signing yesterday. It was more of a review of our transfer window the way i read it although I could of course be wrong.

So the next question to ask is would you be happy if the transfer window ended now? Do you think we’ve done enough to strengthen? I know a lot of it should have been done last summer, but have the board finally put things right by back Alan Pardew or are we still desperately short somewhere on the pitch?

Personally I’m happy with what we’ve done in this window and if it was the end of January and we couldn’t bring in any more I wouldn’t be bothered at all. An extra striker would be nice but I honestly can’t see that happening.

However what I want to know is what your opinion is on the matter, so get voting and leave a comment below.

  1. Munich – You’re not doing too well there son. Pootle and Big D have you on the ropes. 😆

“I would play Shola in the middle against Villa, he will batter them young Villa defenders” I might not be able to take you seriously again after that comment. 😆

I don’t rate Bastos one bit. His concentration levels are awful and he’s really inconsistent. Also, he is apparently after very high wages and apparently loves a party.

Don’t expect us to sign any Brazilians. They are only 2nd to the English in terms of overratedness and over-inflated transfer fees.

  3. ANDYMAG they guy plays for Arnhem and is a powerful pacy and skilful striker .Belive me the lad is world class and scores for fun he is at the ACON at the minute . His build is that of Martins and he is just as quick but a much better all round footballer ,trust me he could play for any top team in Europe .

Yeah I’d heard similar things. Just read that he’s got 16 in 18, so if we’re after him than I’m all for it, is at ACN with Ivory Coast.

  6. Pootle 😉 I’m not getting into yet another Shola debate, it’s been so long and neither of us will change our minds.

I’ll say this-I don’t want him starting our league matches and in an ideal world I would only wheel him out for the mackems, or bringing him out for 15min cameos. I just think people should get used to him though, we’ll never sell him and he’ll be here til he retires.

And hey, at least he’s a cheap dressing room cheerleader unlike Smudger 😀

  7. “We wanted players who had ambition in them, not just for six months but for the future. None of them was a knee-**** reaction, otherwise we would have bought a 31-year-old from a squad in the Premier League” ~ Pardew

That is clearly a shot at Ol’ Floppy Chops at QPR and their pursuit of Odemwingie 😆 😆 😆

  8. Having lost Ba, we desperately needed at least one top quality striker at the start of the window, and despite the spate of signings, we still desperately need one. We could do with two IMO. The clock’s ticking. An injury to Cisse and we’re plucked. 😳

  10. During the Keegan debacle?

If so I think he has changed his strategy since then. We now raid the high tax/low wage french league for quality players 😀 There is plenty more players to be had in that league.

  11. QUESTION:

In the summer – would you take Andy Carroll back? Surely one of these Frenchies has a good cross in them, lol

Not on that wage and for anything more than £5m we could get far better players on that wage and probably alot cheaper transfer fee aswell.

    @168

Every time i see the c*** i hate him more and more really want QPR and Villa to go down this year.

If its £9m or under yes, he’d be a great impact sub, but he’s not worth any more and he shouldn’t be in the first team.

  14. pardew hinting in the paper that none of the new players will start against villa,he wanted the kid m/utd signed but were not going to pay that type of money,he’s got to be joking saying he is not going to start any of the new players

  15. Bony dont make no sense to me.
12M seems way too much. Plus the ACoN factor.
No 12M would get wolfyswinkel or Aubameyang.
I think this is a diversion to get ‘Arry the **** off wor tail 😆

Your right, stupid thought. Better out there for less, Danny Graham would probably work just as well and he’s not got the personal problems of Carroll as well as his injury troubles.

      (Quote)

  17. FJ-I think we’ve moved beyond hoofball and I don’t see him and Cisse working. Nor him and Barfa (tho he could well be gone this summer)

I’d take him for free though, maybe if he gets another 12 PL goals we can sell him to QPR for 45 mil.

  18. don’t really rate that BONY that much yes he has scored. a few goals in the dutch lge,but not many for his country 4 n 18 I think I remember that alves got 39 in 45 games and he was **** at boro

      (Quote)

  19. Trying to remember if Debuchy’s a good crosser or if defenders **** their drawers when he gets on a run. Anybody remember?

Don’t know him at all, but Bony’s up at the top of the Dutch league’s scorers by dint of him being his team’s penalty taker. The broken record part of my soul would like to point out that Altidore’s a goal behind him from open play. Otherwise, they have identical scoring records this season and are also equal on assists. Jozy’s a year younger and probably much cheaper.

By too much do you mean that we wouldn’t seriously bid that much or he’s not worth it cus I would say with his current record he probably is.

      (Quote)

  21. ANDYMAG he is a main striker but could play in the hole ,trust me the guy would light SJP up . All the talk was that he was going to Chelsea but that talk has died down since Ba signed for them .

      (Quote)

  22. @BB

Bony is better than both them players and does fit the profile of the players we go for.

Though i don’t think the story is true. I think he will join one of the Giants in the summer and for alot more than £12m

      (Quote)

  23. Congratulations Stardy! Now, where do you stand on pardew? His neck? His crotch?

I don’t get managers who don’t start new signings.

  24. On the topic of the poll–I know I’m nitpicking, but I voted “no.” Happy? No. Satisfied? Yeah, I suppose, but I think we still need a couple of pieces.

Colo’s not mentally in the right place and seems unstable–could walk with a wrong turn in his personal matters, and that leaves us with Saylor, who’s maybe not fit and probably ring rusty and Mbiwa, who’s untried in the prem.

And as someone pointed out earlier if Cisse or the new kid get hurt, we’re back to Shola, which ain’t ideal.

  25. Seriously what the effing hell has Carroll done to make so many drool all over him.
He has absolutely zero tekkers whatsoever.
He’s just a big lump up front. Over rated after 6 months in the PL.
If he wasn’t a local lad then I dont think anyone would rate him so highly.
Pile of shyte imo and nee way I’d want him back.
Remind me how many goals he has scored since he left 2 yrs ago. ❓
Yeah yeah he is always injured blah blah blah. Tosh.

      (Quote)

  26. Looking at Bony’s stats over the long haul, he’s been a more consistent goal scorer for his club than Altidore, so maybe that bodes well and explains the higher price. I haven’t seen him play at all. He’s at ACON now?

      (Quote)

  27. Andymag – I just dont see us paying 12M
agree, he may be worth more and will go else where.
Have been watching him on youtube (lol) and the defenses he has scored against are woeful. Really shocking.
Not convinced he will find it quite so easy to make his mark in the PL.
In my defense I offer you Gervinho. 😆 😆
An epic fail from Wenger. imo

  28. BB 😆

Sort it out with your little fat bro – life’s too short – I’ve been misrepresented on here for years but I’m still going 😆

For me Pards has shown himself to be a terrible manager this year, in every way – would love to see a manager who plays football not one who resorts to long ball percentage hoofball a la big fat Sam.

Would love to see Blanc as manager to continue the revolution!

  29. Remember hearing a number of years back that you should never sign a player based on seeing them in ACN, not a true reflection as they try fancy moves against what they know are **** defenders and keepers.

  30. “He has been mostly poor throughout his career but when you seem to have lost all faith in him he pulls out a performance that Messi would be proud of.”

    Shola. Like Messi?!?!

Maybe if you mean Mr Messy.
Although I would suggest Mr Immobile would be more accurate.

  31. @BB

Forehead is awful lol but then there is Drogba 😀

    @pootle

lol what messi can do with his feet Shola can do with his chest 😛

@Andymag i think its a front 3 with Konan, Forehead, and Kalue. With Drogba and Bony coming of the bench

  32. They call Bony the African Beast.
He scufs the ball as well as shola sometimes too.

      (Quote)

  33. Funny, doing a little homework on Bony, his scoring record is eerily similar to Altidore’s over the last two season and though they are the same height at 182 cm, Bony outweigh’s Jozy by 16k, if the stats I’m seeing are to be believed. The guy’s built like a brick **** house!

When I watched that video, I thought “he looks like a squat, beefy dude,” but he’s not squat at all, he’s six feet tall–just beefy!

      (Quote)

  34. I’d like to see him take a ‘beep’ test.
He’ll have no speed whatsoever by the time he is 30.
Seems to be carrying quite a lot of poundage around his middle.

      (Quote)

  35. Its the sprint test in the gym mate, Have you never done one like ?
Or are you winding me up ? 😉

      (Quote)

  36. @217

Its kind of a stamina test where you run from end to end trying to get to each end before the beep.

      (Quote)

  37. Fucking beep test, was **** when I did it. Wasn’t the fittest of lads a few years back, not fat but didn’t do too much sport so had little stamina.
