Closed for (incoming) business?

Kevin Mababu- I don’t wanna dance…
Well it’s transfer deadline day and for once we’re left not counting the numbers of new faces we still need to add to our squad.

And now I hear that we’re pretty much done in terms of incoming transfers aside from, signing a youngster from Switzerland maybe, and I have to say I’m not too bothered about the fact we’re done.

Yes I would have liked us to get another striker “over the line” but in fairness to the board and manager we’ve seen our team and squad bolstered with five new additions this month. Granted we’d still be thin up front should Papiss Cisse fall victim to injury but we have signed Yoan Gouffran who can operate there so it’s not like we’ve signed nobody in attack.

So what do we know about potentially our final recruit? Well Kevin Mbabu (Vic Reeves would have fin with that name!) is aged at just 17 so would be one for the future no doubt. He’s been attracting the attention of Arsenal and Manchester City which is a good sign I guess and can play in defence and in midfield. To date he has made just one senior appearance for his current club Servette. As you can see, not a lot is known about him other than his name sounding like it belongs on ‘Shooting Stars’ and himself looking like he belongs on ‘Stars In Their Eyes’ covering Milli Vanilli.

Girl you know it’s true. Oooh Oooh Oooh I love you… Anyway.

So basically aside from Mathieu Debuchy, Massadio Haidara, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran and maybe this young chap above we’re done for incoming transfers at least.

Going out could be different. We’re always at risk of selling if the bid is high enough so I’m not ruling out one of our “blue chip” players leaving today. It would be madness and would destroy the feel good factor that has built over the last week or so but that is business as they say.

There are rumours over Danny Simpson leaving which actually wouldn’t cause an issue as such as we have plenty of options at full-back these days. I’d be sad to see him go and don’t think he has been as bad as some make him out to be so if he goes it will be with a “thank-you” rather than a “f**k off” like some previous players.

In fact I’d probably use the latter option as my final words for Xisco who could also be on the move today apparently. Whatever happens he’ll be gone in the summer regardless but shifting his ample salary (thanks Dennis!) off the wagebill for the rest of the season would be nice.

So, for the moment anyway, not a lot is brewing at St James’ Park. Always be on guard of course, but, and I say this whilst touching various pieces of wood, I don’t think we’ll see any nasty shocks today so just sit back and enjoy the media frenzy at other clubs.

Of course that could all change…

  1. Ref Colo, I was offline mostly while it was all going on(haven’t read his letter) but my take was why should NUFC suffer because he couldn’t keep his **** in his pants? He obviously wanted away after his wife gave him an ultimatum which I can understand and it’s difficult keeping a player who doesn’t really want to be here but!!! if we had let him go we should have loaned him to San Lorenzo(they pick up his wages) and kept his registration for the period of his contract otherwise he would probs have played there until the Summer and then they would have got a nice transfer fee for him by selling him to some Italian or Spanish club.
Really glad he’s staying until the summer(at least) though, well done Pards 😀

  2. Yeah I have but I am working from home and I have pretty much finished everything that needs finishing (I’m incredibly efficient  )

Agree totally with you regarding Collo… If he has cheated like you say, well why should the club suffer as a result. I’m not really buying the heart felt ***** he has written… He played the risk game : Catch me – **** me. It’s a great game until you get caught out! You can guess from the title (or ask Collo’s wife) as to what happens once you get caught out.

  5. With the window slamming shut last night , I think we had a good window. Yeah we lost Ba and will miss his goals but think we have signed some players. Hopefully it sets is up to have a good second half of the season. Gives the new players a chance to bed in and we kick on next season. I would love us to have a good run in the Europa league. I dont think we will win it but its last piece of silverware we could win so why not?

  6. I’ll be happy if we stay up and make the semi-final of the Europa League. Need to sign a new striker over summer unless one of the kids really steps up in the second half of the season.

In other news, I just had a read about ‘Arry’s QPR dealings. Ice is right, he’s going to wreck the club: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/31/qpr-christopher-samba-peter-odemwingie

No coincidence that the agents of a lot of the players coming in are Redknapp’s mates. He’s taking Fernandes to the cleaners, and setting QPR fans up for a hard few years. 🙄

  8. @danroan: Not quite Odemwingie, but am told Danny Simpson’s move to Wigan was all but done last night – he’d packed bags, travelled to the DW…

  15. Aussie – now, now . . . lay off the mackem slayer. Pardew reckons he’s the most important player at the club and really we could all see that on Tuesday.

  16. Aussie-It’s good that you too recognise Shola as the force of nature and dynamic talent that he is. I hate those who seek to shackle him simply as a “striker” 😎

  17. Georgio I sense you don’t realise just how important Strolla is, it’s easy to be sarcastic when talking about him but I don’t think it’s fair on him he never moans or owt and carrying the balls, energy drinks and nets at Benton is important for the team 😉

  18. Newkie, Georgio, BD 🙂 🙂
Are talking to me Dave? I sensed a little anger in you yesterday, which is pretty much normal but I sensed it?. 🙂 🙂

AOD-Happy birthday, glad you got your priorities right. ❗
