Closed for (incoming) business?

Kevin Mababu- I don’t wanna dance…
Well it’s transfer deadline day and for once we’re left not counting the numbers of new faces we still need to add to our squad.

And now I hear that we’re pretty much done in terms of incoming transfers aside from, signing a youngster from Switzerland maybe, and I have to say I’m not too bothered about the fact we’re done.

Yes I would have liked us to get another striker “over the line” but in fairness to the board and manager we’ve seen our team and squad bolstered with five new additions this month. Granted we’d still be thin up front should Papiss Cisse fall victim to injury but we have signed Yoan Gouffran who can operate there so it’s not like we’ve signed nobody in attack.

So what do we know about potentially our final recruit? Well Kevin Mbabu (Vic Reeves would have fin with that name!) is aged at just 17 so would be one for the future no doubt. He’s been attracting the attention of Arsenal and Manchester City which is a good sign I guess and can play in defence and in midfield. To date he has made just one senior appearance for his current club Servette. As you can see, not a lot is known about him other than his name sounding like it belongs on ‘Shooting Stars’ and himself looking like he belongs on ‘Stars In Their Eyes’ covering Milli Vanilli.

Girl you know it’s true. Oooh Oooh Oooh I love you… Anyway.

So basically aside from Mathieu Debuchy, Massadio Haidara, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran and maybe this young chap above we’re done for incoming transfers at least.

Going out could be different. We’re always at risk of selling if the bid is high enough so I’m not ruling out one of our “blue chip” players leaving today. It would be madness and would destroy the feel good factor that has built over the last week or so but that is business as they say.

There are rumours over Danny Simpson leaving which actually wouldn’t cause an issue as such as we have plenty of options at full-back these days. I’d be sad to see him go and don’t think he has been as bad as some make him out to be so if he goes it will be with a “thank-you” rather than a “f**k off” like some previous players.

In fact I’d probably use the latter option as my final words for Xisco who could also be on the move today apparently. Whatever happens he’ll be gone in the summer regardless but shifting his ample salary (thanks Dennis!) off the wagebill for the rest of the season would be nice.

So, for the moment anyway, not a lot is brewing at St James’ Park. Always be on guard of course, but, and I say this whilst touching various pieces of wood, I don’t think we’ll see any nasty shocks today so just sit back and enjoy the media frenzy at other clubs.

Of course that could all change…

  1. Fair comments on Simmo. I’ve got nowt against a player that plays well throughout his contract then moves on; it’s a rare thing these days. Still rather see him stay, but only he knows the details.

Just watched the MOTD highlights. Those slagging off Spidey should take note of his cross leading to the winning goal and two key clearences. Without Jonas and his incredible workrate we’d be in the rellie zone right now instead of Villa.

I’ve only just realised what this window could do for our European campaign. Those new bodies may enable Pards to up the strength of the Europa squad. All good!

  2. Chris G –

The main problem with that is that Tulisa doesn’t live in London (she lives in Hertfordshire)

Can I assume you got the Smash Hits! annual for Xmas, and it had a Tulisa profile page 😆
A London based club is still gonna put him closer that Stoke, Wigan or the toon tho isn’t it bugalugs 😉

  3. Aussie – no mate, far from complaining. Think they’ve done a great job to be fair, and hopefully some truth in the link M posted about us setting our sights on 5-6 players in in the summer.

Whumpie – would that be Spideys cross that was absolutely nowhere near a toon player and was headed clear by a Villa defender completely unchallenged? – aye, great ball on a sixpence mate 😆 😆

  4. Ok we are sorted for now.
Hope Cisse keeps banging them in and stays fit.
If we lose nobody, then I feel we have enough to survive at the very least.
We must get more goals from midfield mind.
We have brought in some quality players tho, to be fair to the board.
Time now to move up the league
    Howay the Lads
    Allez les fils
    😆 😆 😆

  5. Whumpie @ 76

I was shocked with the abuse Jonas got. When I saw it I felt ashamed of some of our fans. Incredible servant for this club and he did pretty well I thought. Yes he mis-controlled a few passes but that’s not out of the ordinary for any toon player. He rarely loses possession too compared to a player like Ben Arfa…

  6. Jonas, when on the right hand side on his right foot put a couple of decent crosses in, sure 2 found their man

  7. I was listening to talkshite thismorning and a bindipper rang in to say they should buy Jonas to work with Jose.
    🙁

  8. Im ITK and would say we wont sign anyone 🙄
Best news of today marv back in training – like a new signing. 😎

AP has said today that there have been enquiries today though 😕

  9. Moreno – search me mate, I thought she was from the London hood man – it was Chris G who corrected me that she lives out in the Countryside 😕
Prem – they can have him for offers in the region of £35m 😛 – well it is transfer deadline day

  10. Moreno – I’m one of Jonas’ biggest fans. Last season he was absolutely immense, But I’ve got to say it looks like his legs have gone. There’s no more lung bursting runs that used to be his trademark. His crossing and shooting remain very weak and on Tuesday he had a terrible game. He also lost it at one point and his concentration went completely. Love the guy but I fear his time is slipping away.

  11. Hmmm… ok Cheers Richie! for some reason I cannot use the link on this site and cannot get to their site.. Oh well

      (Quote)

  12. Thanks Richie, but that link doesn’t work either. I could get it no problem up to around lunchtime. all other sites work so can’t be my internet connection… oh well, cheers for trying to help!

  13. C-T…nae botha, it’s working ok here in sunny Spain but there’s nowt happening on there anyway 😉

  14. Fair enough Georgio, least you have a reasoned opinion rather than all the ‘Jonas is f*ckin *****” that he was getting barraged with. Really no need for that nonsense like

      (Quote)

  15. Really annoys me the comms from the club. Both Dekka and Pards ‘closed for business’ ‘defo nee one coming in like’

    Newcastle sign Mbabu

    Why talk sh*t?!? 🙄 Grrrrrrrr……. 😆

      (Quote)

  16. Moreno@58 😆

Completely forgot that gem. Combining the story of two of NUFC’s biggest legends, truly 😀

      (Quote)

  17. Whumpie-Jonas’ cross for the Cabaye goal was fairly accurate, in that it went to one of their defenders. You can’t honestly credit him assisting Cabayes goal can you? His strike was pure class and it came from nothing, a fairly routine clearance. If Cabaye scored from every headed clearance from a Jonas cross we’d be top of the league 😉

      (Quote)

  18. Moreno-Don’t forget a few months ago we were told we weren’t buying anyone under 18. Like I said before, they need to stop acting like they have a “set plan” and just admit they do what they like when they like-and take the plaudits when it comes off and hold up their hands when it doesn’t. That’s all they need to do to get some respect fro me

      (Quote)

  19. So I take it we haven’t sold anyone, well atleast tonight won’t be like most other deadline days where we are praying to get a much needed player in, as I said the other day i’m happy with the window 😉

  20. MDS

Goin’ well dude. Just busy as hell. How’s you? What do you think about our transfer window?? 😎

      (Quote)

  21. So are any of you playing the Transfer Day Deadline Drinking Game? Obviously I can’t play as I don’t get Sky Sports here, but have seen mention of it on Twitter…seems kinda funny.

  22. OH- all’s good man. Over the moon with the tranfer window like every one esle.

Norcal- got an email from my canble provider today that said I now get FSC in high definition- and just in time for the chelsea match. 😉

  23. See this Mbau guy had gone into the development team, hope the first thing they teach him is how long your hair should be, thus cutting half a metre of the back of his. 😕

      (Quote)

  24. Re the Jonas discussion, I actually thought he was MOTM for most of the early part of the season and I’ve always defended and liked the lad, he seems a funny/good bloke. But this season he has me well and truly exasperated. He just doesn’t seem on the same page as anyone in the squad. On field clique? Maybe, but he just seems knackered, but has done all season 😕

  25. 2.13 years is the average length a manager lasts at one club.

The cold draught predicted he would be gone now. 🙄

Close the window Toonsy, there’s a cold draught. 😆

Who knows, we may be saying by May that Gouffran is the best striker at the club. 😛

Got to love The Cold Draught. Life is soooo serious. 😆

      (Quote)

  26. Scandalous Redknapp can get away with it. He’s obviously getting tapped up if he has drove to QPR.

Really pleased with the signings we have made people crying on about a Striker, we got one, Gouffran. Whatever way you look at it he is a striker.

What we did need, and still do is a good left winger that can attack like Ben Arfa can. Gouffran tho can play both (albeit RW) thats why we have him.

Reckon if Pardew can use the right team at the right time then we will be fine. He is really annoying me though with the loyalty he shows Jonas and Shola, even if theyre playing ****,

I would play this team from now:

    Krul

    Debuchy MYM Colo Santon
    Perch Cabaye
    Marveaux Sissoko Gouffran
    Cisse

then with Ben Arfa back put Sissoko in Midfield instead of Perch.

Saying all this does, anyone believe that Pardew has the balls to start the midfield above?

      (Quote)

  27. Cheers Richie.

Andy @ 115, apparently there are a bunch of Jim White cliches that if he uses you drink…depending on the cliche you have to take 2 – 4 drinks or perhaps a whole beer. If for instance Redknapp is seen doing an interview through his car window, you have to down the whole thing. Various bit like that.

  28. Newkie , When I went to Reading I watched him closely and I have to say he worked like a trojan all game . I’ve always liked Jonas but agree he is well off the pace lately. Maybe he needs to do a more defensive role as he’s lost a lot of his pace.

      (Quote)

  29. Kim
Don’t ken who that is? But he looks very Caribbean with the dreadlocks, if he ever gets into the first team the fans should make some cool running-style chant up.
“Feel the rhythm feel the rhyme, come on now it mabau time”. 😆

      (Quote)

  30. Stuart – Its not that its just that I feel we should use Sissoko behind Cisse. Having Cabaye and Anita in as 2 DM I just feel theyre a bit small. Anita tends to get shrugged off easily, so feel Perch will partner Yohan till Cheick is back.

Anita is a better player than Perch. No doubt.

      (Quote)

  31. Moreno…That particular fly is fairly hit and miss generally, on this occasion he was a hit tho 😉

      (Quote)

  32. To be fair, re tapping up, every club does it. But Arry, he just takes the **** in everything.

Kim-Yeah, he still runs around but now he doesn’t seem actually capable of catching up to those that skin him, or obviously of beating anyone at all with the ball at his feet. I thought we’d sussed mid way through last season when we went to 4-3-3 that Jonas could be a DM. It did seem he’d put on some weight to help him in that role and now he’s playing on the wing perhaps the club/coaching staff/Pards are to blame for changing it back, I mean winger and DM are hardly two roles you’d expact a player to play in…but in an attacking 3 where I assume he was playing yesterday, he’s wasted.

  33. Andy to see the full list, go to @FourFourTweet and look through some of their pics…they have the list there.

      (Quote)

  34. Re midfield.

From what I’ve picked up Sissoko is used to playing in front of a holding midfielder and likes to play on the left side of midfield.
Cabaye as we know also likes to play with a holding midfielder and likes to play on the right side.
Assuming Tiote rediscovers his awesomeness he is the obvious choice of CDM with Perch & Anita on the bench.

Up front surely we are playing Cisse in the middle with Gouffran and HBA swapping behind him, with Marv or Obertan on the Bench with Shola or his replacement in the summer AC.

  35. Andy @126 😯 They famously mimed to there tracks but another artist was actually singing the songs 😆 Couple of ex models pretending to sing . Look them up on you tube .

      (Quote)

  36. Kim
That’s stupid why would anyone be interested in that 😕 . Never got this mimed singing ****, if you can’t sing yourself don’t perform.

      (Quote)

  37. Moreno
Really? I thought he’s been mediocre at best, granted that’s better than his performances earlier in the season.

      (Quote)

  38. I think Perch is good at what he does, but sometimes the game can completely pass him by. He has the nous to put in a clever tackle and find himself in the right position to do so, but Reading completely bypassed him. I don’t think he has the natural athleticism of Tiote which sees him on the backs of any player in the opposition midfield. And sees him picking up his customary cards of course..

It’s funny how we’ve got from relying on Alan Smith in defensive midfield to being able to field more players there than anywhere else.. 😆

      (Quote)

  39. Perch is, ironically perhaps a highlight reel player. You could watch 2 mins of him tidying up well, clearing well, tackling well. But for his all round game, he doesn’t add much. Although he did well when he steamed into the box at old trafford 😆

  40. Dave-If it’s an ego/bling thing, heading north of the border into those dark places should keep them grounded 😉 Honestly just glad Abeid is getting game time somewhere, he’s not really impressed me despite the rave reviews he got when we signed him…now we’ve actually got a good size squad maybe we can loan people like him, sammy, vuckic and campbell out for a proper spell to see if they can come good…

      (Quote)

  41. Andy @134 Thing is though you could tell they was mimeing we didn’t know it wasn’t them untill someone let the cat out the bag 😉

  42. I most certainly won’t be telling Xisco the kid to ‘f off’.
    1) It’s not his fault Dennis Wise signed him without consulting KK.
2)He played whenever he was asked and went on loan when he was asked.
3)He was made a scapegoat and treated like **** by the club and the fans. It’s not his fault he’s not Torres and I don’t believe he is truly as bad as people make out, I would play him ahead of Ranger put it that way.
4)He was given the contract of his career and he will take a massive pay cut from now on… the club shouldn’t have offered him it, likewise Ranger, and Shola and Jonas’s (***) huge extensions.
So it so long and farewell Xisco from me.

      (Quote)

  43. Kim yeah the QPR and Odemwingie fiasco is weird,

As for Abeid good on him if he’s getting regular 1st team experience, although with the quality of the SPL I think they would be better in the Championship but thats just my opinion

      (Quote)

  44. DJG it’s not that often I agree with you 😀 but I agree 100% @147, I have always felt sorry for the kid as he is basically labelled as the main reason for the KK fiasco, yeah as you say he isn’t a Torres but I don’t think he ever made out that he was 😕

      (Quote)

  45. DJG @147, kinda agree re, xisco ,it’s not his fault but boy do I wish he’d of asked for a transfer once he knew he wasn’t wanted. If he’d gotten a transfer back to spain it would of saved us a pretty penny.
