Game On! Newcastle v Chelsea

Game On at SJP
Game On at SJP
Newcastle take on Chelsea this afternoon in what promises to be a tough encounter for the Magpies.

Granted our midweek win over Aston Villa has given us some breathing room away from the basement of the Premier League but there is till work to do before we can forget about the dreaded “r” word.

Three points today would be a nice surprise and getting them over one of the top teams in the league would be a welcome boost. Personally I always have these types of games down as bonus matches, where any points are a bonus whether we be at home or away. Maybe I’m being harsh on our team and their ability to compete with the so-called “big boys” but let’s be honest, they are up near the top of the league for a reason, in much the same way we’re near the bottom for a reason.

The game itself is not being broadcast here in the UK as it’s a Saturday 3pm kick-off and they only get shown around the world and not in the UK. That is unless you can get hold of a stream to watch the match. Not that I condone that sort of behaviour of course but I can’t stop you from posting links to decent streams that you may find on your travels around the web. Hint hint…

The match preview in online and can be viewed here if you haven’t already done so. It featured injury news for both sides and also a brief history of the fixture along with some fun facts and statistics to go along with the match.

Team news will be published below in full as and when it becomes available. Personally I don’t expect to see too much changed from the side that beat Aston Villa but then I guess you never know. You’ll have to wait to find out.

Which neatly brings this article to a close and now it’s over to our team to do the talking for us. As always comments on the match as it progresses but please bear in mind younger also read us before you go off on a rant.

  1. This Guy Sissoko what a player we have. You could almost say that maybe our poor form was necessary because we have brought in some quality signings. Without our poor form we may not have ever purchased such players.

  2. Now we know what Saylor does when he really gets one in the nads.

INCREDIBLE GAME!!! WELL DONE PARD’S WELL DONE JONAS WELL DONE EVERYONE.

Completely deserved this win! Feel like I’ve run a marathon and read a novel in the last 90minutes.

  3. This was a team effort.

Credit to Pardew. His best game as Newcastle manager no doubt. He got lots of things right. The team were behind him and he played some selective stuff today.

Sissoko was monumental his power pace and drive drove us on today. Jonas showed some great quality on the right.

  4. My neighbours must think I went mad. What a day. What a way to end that curse of not getting a win from behind.

  6. Winning by grinding a result out last week-winning from a losing position this week. Surely these will do wonders for our confidence, not to mention the fact that Sissoko now looks born for the PL.

Look at the celebration for his goal, all the lads around, good spirit it seems 😉

“here we go.. second half AP strikes again… and with villa winning we are back in the relegation *****… not that we were ever really out of it.”

    Indeed 😆

  9. The Forward link up play was amazing. Such a difference from Ba and Cisse not even able string to passes together.

Think their is no dout that Sissoko is man of the match. Though Santon got two assists and probably his best game for Newcastle so far.

  10. Start of January I was about to slit my wrists. Since then. Ashley has opened the wallet.
Pards has given the guys the morale needed in the camp. And the new players look superb. The old players now have to play for the place and are giving it their all.
Amazing turn around. Six points in a week. If we win next week we could be edging top half!

Best of all QPR are in genuine **** now!

  13. Toonsy – yeah, it must have run through everyone’s head. (Maybe not Aussie?) But we weren’t playing badly, it was just – Mata! Greatly cheered by the result. Onwards and upwards! 😀

  14. Make no mistake lads that’s a big win and we were the better side for long spells too. Sissoko and Gouffran look class signings and we look much more secure without Wilo at the back .

  15. We’re off to Spurs next, then Metalist will be our Valentine’s at SJP. A draw against Tottenham would be a good result, but we have to beat the Ukrainians to have a chance at the next stage of the Europa League.

  16. I take it that everyone happy if we start with the same team next week?

    Great result.

Hope we take the cup seriously now.

  17. YEEAHH!!!!! FINALLY!! We had attacking threat, we had quality, we had ability, we had belief, we made them feel small and uncomfortable, we showed the fight to not give in…27 month record broken…. but we played better, the tactics were better, Pardew finally woke up and got it spot on. WELL DONE!!

      (Quote)

  18. I’ll admit it today. When Pardew got it wrong I was one of the first on his back. Today I cannot fault him in anyway. He got it spot on in the first half. Second half he stuck with his guns and we got back in the game. His sub with Marv was obvious but his timing was singular. I might have had MArv on earlier but Pardew held on and got the timing right.

Credit to Pardew today he really earned his money today. The team were behind him, and he produced. I hope he really can keep it up.

  19. Andy Mag @339 That’s s/t thinking, we wanted West Ham to beat Swansea because we’re going to catch them to. I told my mate a couple of weeks ago we’d finish no worse than 8th this season. He thought I was mental. Did think that a bit myself, like.

We were clearly the better TEAM today, while Chelsea still showed they have some world class players. And that is pretty good, now we’ve got to do it against so-called weaker teams.

That kind of feeling’s been a long time coming this season!!! 🙂

  20. 1st time in a year to win 2 in a row 😉
Kim Jonas was still a bit leggy today but not as bad as before, though his passing was well off, but maybe a bit of competition is doing him good 😉

  21. Dave , yep ,players need the threat of losing the shirt sometimes. Was glad we won ,wanted a good result as may not be around for Spuds game as Lewis is supposed to have an operation on friday afternoon and obviously I have to stay in hospital too. Thing is he has a cold sinus thing again so they may cancel it yet ,won’t know till next week. 🙄

  22. ok lads now that i am starting to slightly get my senses back after that ,the only thing i can say is get the fook in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and by god we have found a monster in sissoko ,he is not from France he is from another planet .That was the best i have seen us play under Pards

  23. Fantastic game! Should be brilliant for our confidence. Sissoko best player on the pitch by far, but Santon, Gouffran and Cabaye were excellent as well. Jonas had a strange game. Couldn’t cross at all but scored an excellent goal and kept his composure well at the end. Cisse was disappointing except for the pass in the buildup for our second goal but it didn’t end up hurting us because of Sissoko. What a player we’ve got there!

  24. Fans ,agree both Lamps and Matas were top drawer and I knew Lamps would get one he’s some player ,mr Chelsea.

  25. Hope things go well with Lewis if the operation does happen Kimtoon. More important than football by far!

  27. If we keep this up will HBA get back in the team lol , jesus we have just beaten the champions of Europe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. G2 ,I’m shitting it ,he had a funny turn last time he had a GA ,which is why it may get cancelled, only I know they don’t like to give GA’S if you have had a cold or infection a week before as it can cause a serious chest infection .Obviously with his Epilepsy issue too it’s a bit scary all round .Anyway we’ll see what the anesthetist recommends next week . 😕

  29. Chelsea and Harry (Sissoko’s biggest fan) will be watching tonight on MOTD and think, why didn’t we sign him? 😆
