Newcastle 3-2 Chelsea – Match highlights and managerial interiews

Some highlights of the superb 3-2 victory over Chelsea for you all to review now. It was a cracking game so enjoy.

It was a game that had me on the edge of my seat but the bonus this time is that we managed to grab the three points. A goal from Jonas Gutierrez and two goals on his home debut from Moussa Sissoko proved to be enough and outweighed strikes from Frank Lampard and Juan Mata.

Alan Pardew speaks about the victory over Chelsea.

While Rafa Bentiez believes that Coloccini should have seen red for breaking Demba Ba’s nose.

Two wins in a week is all we can ask for. It’s Tottenham away next which is another bonus game for me, a game where points are a bonus. However confidence is starting to return to this side and it won’t be an easy game for Spurs for sure.

Howay the lads!

  1. What a result. What a performance. We did get a bit lucky with Colo staying on but Ramieres should if gone before that. It evened its self out. Wot mention Luiz last season. I think we are going to be in trouble with the fa or fifa if we keep playing Sissoko. Surely playing half man half beast is against the rules.

  2. How nice was it to catch a team on the break and score, Gouffran drew the defenders and shot, Sissoko cleans up. 🙂 🙂

  3. Hear Li Ning is in talks with us and Everton re a stake in the club. Imagine a tie up with SD would be logical. Could bring even more stability and commercial income to the club.

  4. Gouffran was my star man….Played it simple never missed a pass and didnt try to beat players and lose the ball..the guy has got great understanding of the game…which we have missed, when to hold up the ball take the player on or pass and nice little step overs to take players out of the game…jonas had his best game for us…cisse had his best game with his touch and control and movement were fantastic, apart from scoring he looked a real player…I could list all the newcastle players they had all great games santon ect…Sisskoo kid stole the show in the last 20 mintues that took him ahead of gourffran and santon…I only hope we had this lot at the start only negative for me with pardew and board…

  5. must say it was great to get watching motd lastnight 😀 Aussie I was just thinking that the last 2 games you havn’t jinxed us with your feelings 😆 😆 When is our 1st game back in the Euro’s

  6. Li Ning is the Chinese equivalent of Nike in China. Makes lots of deals worldwide. Lots of sports links, Not much Football only Celta Viga in Spain. EPL link obvious link with SD obvious. Could be very interesting

  7. Colo: “I’m really worried about my first game at SJP after this carry on about me leaving and that letter n stuff, I’m just not sure how the fans will be with me?!” 🙁

Colos PR man “Fab, not worry man, just go out there and kick Demba Ba square in the face!!” 👿 👿

Colo “Do you think that will get the fans back on side like?”

Sharpy17 – “Absolutely Colo baby, welcome home pal” 😛

      (Quote)

  8. Big Dave, I wrote that I had a good feeling before the Villa game in french and Newkie got upset that I had jinxed it again 🙂 🙂 I guessed the score yesterday but I am keeping the good feeling comments on the down low 🙂 🙂 fecking great win mate, still buzzing tbh 🙂
    Sharpy 🙂 🙂

  9. Li Ning……. that’s what Richie does at a bar after he has had one too many 🙂 🙂

  10. Me thinks the trial by video panel will take up collos ba kick he could get a 3 match ban. Hope I’m wrong though

  11. Aussie it and Ea Ting 😆 yeah mate i’m still buzzing with the game and the fact we can be proud of our team again. I know it could be a bit early but could our older players be getting a lift from the new ones.

      (Quote)

  12. Prem – good info on Li Ning mate, and yeah that could be a very lucrative partnership.

As for yday, of course Sisoko and his French buddies have grabbed the headlines – and rightly so. Sissoko stood out but I thought the Saylor and Colo partnership deserved a mention. Having Saylor next to him barking orders seems to allow Colo to completely focus on defending. I know we now have MYM as well but our defensive definately looks stronger having Saylor in it.

  13. great result yesterday and against villa, looking at the formation Les par Dew is playing since the influx its a straight swap (perch & jonas for Tiote & benny) in a few weeks.

but that leaves the problem of how to get Mbawia in the side. For me I would play Collo in place of Perch (alongside cabaye) until Tiote arrives and let our long term options of saylor and Mbawia start together. then let Collo/Tiote fight for the DM position if they continue with this formation.

    ……………………………………. Krul…………………………………
    Debuchy…………Saylor…………….Mbawia……………..Santon
    ……………………….Cabaye…………Tiote……………………………..
    ………..Benny………………..Sissoko………….Gouffran…………..
    …………………………………….Cisse………………………………………

still think Santon gets caught out at full back, but is such a bonus going forward. I’d still play 3 at the back and use Debuchy/Santon as wingbacks, but cant argue about yesterdays performance.

also wouldn’t worry about putting a strong side out in the EL, we still need prem points and no injuries.

4 wins and 1 draw to go.

      (Quote)

  14. Ea ting 🙂 🙂 nice 🙂 I think Cabaye has made a huge difference as well, his forced break has made him come back fit and refreshed..

  15. Meant to say i’m sure the new players loved the noise and wouldn’t be surprised if we hear them talk about it, and how that confirms they made the right choice.

      (Quote)

  16. Dave – dead right!, proud not only of the win but of the manner of it. To a man they all worked their socks off yesterday and it was a great touch for Sissoko to run to the bench after his 2nd goal.
Not seen Pardew smile like that since Cisse wonder goal against Chelsea. You could almost see the weight of the world lift from his shoulder.
Atmosphere at SJP was electric as well. Shame about the Ba boos for me but what a great day and it is great to think Spurs have something to plan for now – been a while since our opponents have had something to be mindful of

      (Quote)

  17. Kev
We have a fair bit of cover now, reckon we can risk putting out a pretty decent team in EL.
    On Colo-Ba incident
My dad made the point yesterday that Webb was right not to award anything. Colo was attempting to clear it with his eyes on the ball the whole time with a bicycle kick clearance (which you are allowed to do), the only way he would be able to clear it, and Ba leant forward and down into it to head the ball so contact was inevitable.

      (Quote)

  18. Does any of our tweeters still follow Ba?
Would be interested to know if he’s posted about Colos ‘tackle’.

Aussie – yeah you’re right there mate, Cabaye looks like a different player from the one who started the season. He’s having as much influence on the pitch as I reckon he’s had off it. I’d be interested to know how big a part he played in the arrival of the new boys.

      (Quote)

  19. They even said on match of the day last night it wasn’t a red card offence but the ref should of give a pen , dont think we will hear anymore about it except from Rafa when he gets sacked in the coming couple of weeks 😆

      (Quote)

  20. AndyMag

The Colo incident is a classic case of us benefiting from a grey area in the rules.

No doubt Webb so the foul, but he also saw that it happened after Demba got his shot away. For this reason 95% of referees won’t give the penalty as it effectively rewards the attacking side with two great chances to score. Also, you can’t pull it back and give a yellow as all the talk would then be, “Why wasn’t a pen given?”.

Rafa’s comments about it being a red card offence are ridiculous and deep down he knows it. However, he is on the ropes and is looking for any excuse he can find. He should just give up though as he commands no respect in that side as I’m sure they all know he is nothing but a temporary solution.

  22. Yeah Cisee got booked so nothing can be done about that as it was dealt with the time. Silly rule but hey ho…

      (Quote)

  23. What a fantastic feeling around the club though ,these new boys have really started off well . I thought it would take them a few games but they have just hit the ground running and i agree with ASIM about Goofy the lad is not only skillful and quick but intelligent as well . When HBA returns its going to be frightening for opposing defences having those 2 coming at you left and right and sissoko and cabs running the midfield . Looking forward too the scum game me thinks we will destroy them even with the Mackem slayer only on the bench . Wish that was the next game . 😈 :

      (Quote)

  24. Does anyone else think perch was slightly fortunate to still be on the pitch with some of the fouls he was giving away? Was suprised Alan didn’t sub him for Anita so we didn’t go down to ten men.

      (Quote)

  25. After Jonas’ top class performance it would seem harsh for Benny to come in for him but it will have to happen. By the way don’t you think Jonas playing at RM is the key to consistent performances? Managers have played him on the wrong side for years 😆 .

      (Quote)

  26. Axel

I said after the Villa game that Gouffran looked like a CF version of Marveaux – very intelligent movement on & off of the ball + rarely gives it away.

      (Quote)

  27. On the Cisse incident, didnt RVP have both hands around Ashley Williams throat a few weeks ago and nothing was said?
But what a game yesterday, my heart was in my mouth when Collocini kicked Ba and i thought Webb would sprain his wrist getting the red card out but that was the omen for me and the the most bizarre script ever unfolded.
Webb giving us a decision, Jonas scoring, coming from behind against a class team and our French debutantes ramming the result right down the throats of the media doubters.
We just need Mbwia in the side and Tiote back, I’m selfishly hoping for a Nigerian victory today so we can go to Spurs with an almost full first team.

      (Quote)

  28. AndyMag

Jonas was in no way top class yesterday and HBA should walk back in the team. Yes, he scored a goal, but his supply into the box was awful and he didn’t really link up well with Debuchy.

Imo Marveaux should be in the team ahead of Jonas too as he’s contributed more in less games this season.

      (Quote)

  29. Everyone on here is loving the positives so I make no apologies for turning my attention to the negatives. Somebody’s got to do it.

Cabaye, who was tremendous, was running the show for us in midfield, seemingly almost single handedly. I say “almost” because he had a great outlet in Gouffran. Unfortunately, when Chelsea got possession, Lamps and Mata were exploiting acres of space in the middle. I was looking to Perch and Jonas to get a grip, but they were anonymous. I eventually lost my blob and bellowed at Pards, who was just standing like a dummy, seemingly oblivious. To be fair to him, you get a completely different perspective of the game from a more elevated position. I don’t know why we don’t have a coach higher up and in communication with Pardew.

The most unprofessional moment came in the first half when Chelsea won a free kick down our right and we had everyone behind the ball. Cisse ran across to form a “wall” and they simply passed it square to the middle where Cisse had come from. It was school boy stuff that Pards should have been alert to.

It was no major surprise when Lamps and Mata exploited space to get their reward, although I don’t blame our defence as I thought they were excellent throughout; Mbiwa will just have to bide his time.

      (Quote)

  30. Everyone’s raving about Sissoko, which is fair enough. However, I have to say, although he was doing a good job for us, I thought he was fairly quiet until he took the last quarter of the match by storm. As well as he did in that period, however, he couldn’t take the MOTM accolade away from Cabaye.

      (Quote)

  31. Although Cisse and Gouffran played very well, I thought Marv looked an absolute class act when he came on for Gouffran. I can’t for the life of me figure out how he loses out to Perch and even Jonas, who, although having a decent game by his standards, could not get the ball into the box with either foot.

Besides, I’m not convinced that teams need a tough tackling ball winner of the sort that Perch tries to be. So even when Tiote’s back, I’d rather see the likes of Benny and Marv playing together.

Finally, I reckon Santon is not necessarily a full back even though he played well there yesterday. I see him as more of a utility player like Perch, only a hell of a lot better.

      (Quote)

  32. I don’t think tackling is as important in the game these days. We need players like Benny and Marv who can buy themselves vital seconds with just one drop of the shoulder, who are comfortable on the ball, and who keep possession. I want to see the skillful players give the opposition the run around, not only because its great entertainment but also because it works.

When the opposition win the ball, we don’t have to win it back immediately with a tough crowd pleasing tackle of the sort that Perch pulls out once or twice a game. We just need to close down options and be patient.

When I’m heading off to the match, I’m not thinking “wow I wonder what Perch and Tiote will do today?”. I’m thinking about the likes of Benny, Marv, Gouffran, Sissoko, Cabaye, and Colo. I don’t think a team can get enough of those sorts of players.

      (Quote)

  33. The kid
Jonas did very well yesterday, to say otherwise is ridiculous, he took men on, his passing was good (albeit his crossing wasn’t the best) and he helped motivate the team. What you’d expect in a 2nd Captain.
    B&B
In what way is Santon a utility player? He got two assists yesterday and defended really well. He’s still young and has to develop his defensive abilities for PL (and European) level.

      (Quote)

  34. well i was with dave what he said after window closed ; gouffran could be the suprise signing of which i agreed, the lad knows his footy, thats why i normally agree with him 😀 😀 we will see a even better player when he breaks his duck imo

      (Quote)

  35. B&B – I see Cabaye and Sissoko forming a partnership similar to that of Gerrard and Alonso.
Sissoko (Gerrard) being more direct and making the powerful runs from midfield while Cabaye (Alonso) sits abit further back and gets the time on the ball to do the silky stuff.
I also agree with Kevs earlier post that Perch and Jonas will give way to Tiote and Benny when they are back.
I reckon we could do with 3-4 players in in the Summer, but if they are looking at 5-6 then – depending on who they are, I really think we will have a very strong squad next season.

      (Quote)

  36. AndyMag – No, you may be right about Santon. If he’s going to make a fullback, I’d like to see him learn a bit quicker. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s got great attributes. I just don’t think they’re necessarily at full back.

      (Quote)

  37. Sharpy – Why Tiote over Marv? And I do like Tiote. I can’t ever recall criticising him where others have.

      (Quote)

  38. AndyMag – I think that Santon is a fine specimen, and I don’t mean that in a gay way. 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  39. B&B – because Tiote is a holding midfield and Marv is attacking. I think the back 4 still need that protection in front of them and Tiote can offer that. If you play Cab, Sissoko, Benny, Marv and Gouffran I think it’s too attack minded. I know Sissoko can player deeper than were currently playing him but from what I’ve seen, he offers more playing further forward and looks to release Cisse quickly.

      (Quote)

  40. SHARPY17 i reckon 2-3 purple players in the summer and we will be targeting top 6 next season . A cb and cf are musts even if Colo stays , the midfield is more or less sorted . After bringing in 2-3 top notch its time to scout for an up grade in the youth ranks and maybe a rethink of backroom staff . The acadamy and development teams seem too be losing more than winning at the minute ,that does not seem so good for Ashleys plans on developing our own players .

      (Quote)

  41. I think you can change mindsets easier than change attributes/skills. So the flair players can adopt a defensive mindset when we haven’t got the ball. That’s about learning organisation. Tiote can never play the flair game. Besides, I’ve never bought the idea that defenders need a midfield as added protection. Let the defenders stsnd up and be counted. It’s like I hate to see midfielders drop back and take the ball off the toes of defenders. If I was a defender I’d tell the midfielder to **** off, and take up a more offensive position, and I’ll find you with a pass.

      (Quote)

  42. Still buzzing from the win ,how cool did we look at times yesterday . Sissoko skinned Cole too ,he’s like mustard that guy

Groucho @3 That is typical of MOTD that. Last night in the highlights it looked like Chelsea had a lot of the ball when in truth apart from 15 /20 mins 2nd half we were dominant team imo. The fact they didn’t show Ramires off floor two footed lunge (defo red) but chose to show and debate Colo and Cisse incidents is typical bias toward London and Big clubs that they hold.
Skys ,goals on sunday to their credit did talk about Ramires and conclude it was a red .

Andy@28 ,Your dad is 100% correct ,it was never a pen or red ,he was playing the ball the whole time and Ba does lean in head down .It was an accidental collision which happens. Cisse shocked me a bit putting his hand around Coles throat ,so unlike him he’s so laid back normally .Makes me wonder what was said by Cole to provoke that reaction 😕 Wonder if Ba has tipped Cole off with how to wind up Cisse 😆 .

Feel a bit sorry for Ba ,that had to hurt 🙁 in more ways than one yesterday. It would seem our returning strikers don’t fare so well lately ,Carroll had a torrid return also 😉

      (Quote)

  43. B&B, Marv barely had time to touch the ball yet you are carrying on like he had a brilliant cameo performance….. you have stars in your eyes mate.. he was just o.k given the time he had..

      (Quote)

  44. B&B

I’m with you on Tiote, but think Anita should have his position as even the likes of Barcelona acknowledge the need for a player with defensive skills in midfield (Busquets). However, there’s no reason why that player shouldn’t be able to contribute going forward (…again, Busquets).

I don’t think we need 2 or 3 purples. I think we need 2 or 3 good quality squad players and we are done. Our best starting XI is already a match for anyone in this league:

    ———————-Krul———————
    Debuchy—-M’Biwa—Colo—-Santon
    ————–Anita——Cabaye———–
    Gouffran———Sissoko———–HBA
    ———————Cisse——————–

      (Quote)

  45. Aussie

I think Marveaux came on and impressed in a short period. There’s an argument that his introduction played a massive part in us completely regaining control of the game in the last 10 mins or so.

      (Quote)

  46. The thing is with Tiote he only passes side ways or backwards ,yes he is full of energy but that alone is not enough and he seems a slow learner . His Antics at times when a ref gives a free kick against him are shocking , yes he has done a good job for us but we are developing and moving on , he needs to learn to calm down and develop with the team . For me Anita would be ahead of him in the pecking order and it should be up too him to win his place back .

      (Quote)

  47. Give credit to Mike Ashley has bought some quality for basement prices.

One can really look at how important that slump we were in has turned out. Without it we may never have bought into the quality of players we have now. We may not win anything this season but the slump may be a defining moment for the next 2 to 3 years for us.

      (Quote)

  48. The Kid, fresh legs will do that. I like Marv, don’t get me wrong, I think the timing of the sub was good by Pardz. B&B seems to be writing off Gouffrans performance in favour of Marv??

      (Quote)

  49. Watching WBA v Spurs would not mind Shane Long as one of our signings in the summer , good player and would help the home grown rule . He would challenge Cisse for the strikers berth.

      (Quote)

  50. B&B/The Kid – I saw a very different Tiote last season to this to be fair. In the 4-3-3 formation he looked alot better and got forward more often too.
Anita is a good passer of the ball but very lightweight and doesn’t really do much to break the play down.

      (Quote)

  51. Aussie, you may have had a good feeling about the result mate but I was close to having a heart attack in the Villa match 😆

Yesterday was just brilliant. Must have seen the highlights about five times now

      (Quote)

  52. Axel – I understand what you’re saying about Tiote passing sideways and back, but if he has players like Cabaye and Sissoko around him I’d probably prefer that. As I say, last season he was more forward thinking and could be again with better players around him. I don’t dislike Anita, I think he’s very good just very lightweight at the moment.

      (Quote)

  53. Bad news for Tottenham, as their only recognised striker, Jermain Defoe, looks like he’s injured.

    😉 😉

  54. I predict we can finish on 51points.

    WIN SPURS
    WIN Southampton
    WIN SWANSEA
    WIN STOKE
    WIN WIGAN
    WIN MACKEMS

    WIN QPR
    WIN WEST HAM

That’s 24points and to add up our current 27points. We could potentially still hit 51points or maybe even more. 😯

  55. I exclude matches that we might potentially lose.

    LOSE MAN CITY
    LOSE FULHAM
    LOSE WBA
    LOSE LIVERPOOL
    LOSE ARSENAL

But who knows out of these 5games, we might scrap a draw or even a win. 😉

We need Togo to beat Burkina Faso in today’s ACoN quarter final game. In that case Adebayor will definitely be out of saturday’s game. Unfortunately I know little about Togo and even less about Burkina Faso, so don’t know how likely that is to happen ❓ Adebayor always seems to play well against us so I really hope he’s out!
