Game On! West Ham v Newcastle

Game On at Upton Park
Game On at Upton Park
Newcastle and West Ham face off against each other this afternoon, with the need for points for the away side reaching a critical level.

Currently we’re five points clear of Wigan who are away at West Brom this afternoon. In an ideal world that gap would be extended to eight points with just three games to go (for them anyway) as we win and they lose.

However I get the feeling that things aren’t going to go to plan in much the same way that they’ve not gone to plan all season long. At the moment we can sort of forget about Wigan as our destiny is in our own hands, but for it to stay that way we must win at all costs this afternoon and take the points away from a host of faces who will be desperate to put one over on us.

Sam Allardyce, Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan are all former employees of Newcastle and will want to make a point, especially Allardyce who has made it a habit of getting one over us wherever he has been. His brand of football may attract criticism but it’s effective, especially against us.

We look devoid of confidence, lacking ideas and low on fight which are ingredients needed to help pull us out of this mess. One win is all it will take I reckon, but until that comes nerves will understandably be frayed. A growing injury list has seen Moussa Sissoko added to the list of walking wounded. Put simply, things are bad right now.

If you need a bit more background ahead of the match then why not take a look at our match preview article which is linked at the bottom of this article? It features all the other injury news, a history of the fixture and some facts and stats to get you thinking.

The game itself is not being shown live here in the UK so streams will be needed. Once again if you happen to find one then please leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below. Team news will be made available as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Howay the lads!

  4. Sorry but Pardew’s decision making has gone to pot over the last couple of months.

Wigan winning, Villa winning and we’re playing an average WH side and he’s bringing on Gosling and Ameobi. Do we want to win?

  5. Pardew looks like a Cheshire cat grinning we got a point and his favorite type of result 0-0 embarrassment that some people are happy he is here.

      (Quote)

  6. He tried to win a corner. We haven’t scored from a corner for 19 months. What did Gosling think was gonna happen next

  7. team have no control and panic a lot !!!any one can keep fucking ball!!!!what is ur job pardssss 👿

  8. the last 5 minutes may have just relegated us if things remain the same.

What ridiculous subs he’s made aswell.

new manager for the last couple of games?

      (Quote)

  9. thank fuk for that we deserved the point, and I would say the hammers couldn’t have complained if we had of got the 3 pts

  10. 1 point but we actually won that ,oh for goal line technology 🙄

Villa safe on 40 then 🙄 funny old game they was looking dead and gone two weeks ago.

  11. well Wigan are going to romp passed us. next up swansea @home will take them level with us. 😯

    i fear the worse..

      (Quote)

  12. we no longer look capable of winning a match, when things get to that point you MUST change your manager

      (Quote)

  13. That point might’ve looked a bit better if Villa and Wigan hasn’t won. 😕 We HAVE to win against QPR or we’re down.

      (Quote)

  14. Unfortunately a point at qpr wont be enough Pards
I honestly feel we are doomed now
wigan and villa both winning and scoring goals.

  15. We’re as good as down. Everyone else raising their game. No lack of effort from the lads but just poor. colo made a big difference

  16. BIG DAVE
    May 4, 2013 at 16:52

We cannot keep saying that Dave. We said it against WBA and Wigan have gone and got a win there. If we carry on we will be relegated. Wigan have a game in hand against Swansea which I am sure they will win which will take them above us and us into the relegation zone. Their final game against Villa now means less to Villa as they’re on 40 and will be safe.

Unfortunately I don’t see us winning another game and that means we will probably go down.

  17. cant wait for Pardew to roll out the bullshit press “spirit” “organisation” and “commitment”, for one thing Cabaye didn’t look committed, Shola did sweet fanny adams as per usual. These are two of our supposed leaders in the time according to AP?? No wonder we are where we are. Toothless and poor decision making once again from AP. Ever closer to the abyss

      (Quote)

  18. You cannot fault the effort, we just have too many players who are really just downright **** poor.

    We’re going down.

      (Quote)

  19. Aston villa vs chelsea, wigan last two matches

    Anything is possible.

Faith in newcastle please win against QPR or even better win/draw against arsenal.

      (Quote)

  20. 270 mins since we last scored a flukey goal
If it wasn’t for that 94th min goal against Fulham, then we wouldn’t have scored for 450 mins.
    Totally and fucking utterly embarrassing.

      (Quote)

  21. Norwich may yet go down, one of the few rays of light. QPR is must win, simple as no excuses and no bollox AP. Play to win the bloody game

      (Quote)

  22. how are villa safe on 40 though? wigan should beat swansea = 38.

villa play chelsea next week then wigan away! still all to play for!

We must beat QPR – then if villa lose to chelsea and wigan lose to arsenal, both will be below us going into final game when they play each other!
    #keepthefaith

  23. @BB
Before the game yes. After todays results now.
We’re down unless we get 4 points now. Wigan and Villa will probably be safe, I’m thinking it’s us vs Norwich.
It could come down to whoever gets spanked by less on the final day 🙄 7
Signing off from the blog until next Friday now, it’s bad enough having to watch this **** on a Saturday, not spending all week talking about these wasters.

  24. Unfortunately we are now in the realms of only caring about the short term (final 2 games) as this will determine our next 5 – 10 years. I just cannot see us winning another game – for this reason I believe Pardew should now be relieved of his duties with immediate effect. I would appoint Gus Poyet NOW!

People will argue that with only 2 games left what can be achieved, but I believe the players need a boost and it’s clear he is not going to get out of the players what is needed.

  25. Beardsleys Boots,
Its a total sham. APs post match quotes will be yet more *****. I wonders if he even has an eye on the AV and Wigan results. If anyone was in any doubt whatsoever about cabayes commitment, i think today proved that he doesnt want to know

      (Quote)

  26. Our hope lies with swansea beating wigan.

Cause wigan last two matches are arsenal and astonv villa. 😐

      (Quote)

  27. 38 pts Norwich – West Brom (H), Man City (A)
    38 pts Us – QPR (A), Arsenal (H)
    37 pts Mackem – Stoke (H), Soton (H), Spurs (A)

    35 pts Wigan – Swansea (H), Arsenal (A), Villa (H)

We need to collect more points than Norwich! 😯

  28. Man was Collo immense today, and Elliot was superb. Simmo came back from Butlins to give his all, and the half fit Ben Arfa bust a gut for the cause.

The rest can hang there heads in shame.

Pardew, where were Obertan and Anita ? In a team completely devoid of an attacking threat, if you really mean Shola can cause more impact than Obertan then I am at a serious FUKING loss. The guy is past it, you are the ONLY ONE who cannot see it.

      (Quote)

  29. I’ve never felt so emotionally drained watching a football match – for a point!, which could have looked alot better if Norwich and more so WBA could have done us a favour today like.
Focusing on our game though, we played alot better and that formation worked alot better IMO.
Still nee goals tho and can’t say the subs thrilled me either to be honest.

      (Quote)

  30. We just cannot get a **** goal.

‘Sell Demba Ba and Cisse will bang them in’ was the cry I wonder who is prepared to admit they were wrong? Ba is still Newcastle top goal scorer this season albeit Joint with Cisse. Go figure!

      (Quote)

  31. Allsaid and done we all would of took a point before kickoff and we are above the mackems ? the scum are not out of it yet .

      (Quote)

  32. I think Norwich (beat West Brom) will end on 41 points, Villa (draw with Chelsea) on 41 points, Mackems (beat Stoke, draw with Soton) on 41 points, Wigan (beat Swansea and Villa) on 41 points – no joke.
    Can we do it?

      (Quote)

  33. We need to thrash QPR. nu’ff said. 👿

    Lessen down the Goal difference.

      (Quote)

  34. @Axel
But we didn’t expect Wigan to win. And Villa getting the points mean Wigan have a greater chance against them on the final day as well.

      (Quote)

  35. Villa and Wigan are not winning luckily. They are giving it there best and winning deservedly.

We are pish poor and way way unfit.

We got a lucky point today, Elliot made 5 brilliant saves. Shockingly ineffective from our bunch.

      (Quote)

  36. Though happy with a point ( should of been 3 ) I don’t think it’s enough ,we must hope the Mackems drop points tommorow and Hoots boys do too ,hopeing Wigan find it too many games in too short a period as well. We were so lively first half but once benny and goofy went off ,we resorted to negative backs to the wall stuff and it’s awfull stressfull to watch .

      (Quote)

  37. A point is a point. Pity about the Villa and Wigan wins, though. I reckon Norwich will struggle to survive.

We need a win against QPR; there’s no denying that. But for now I’m comfortable with a point from the West Ham game. Certainly a much more coordinated performance than last week (could it have been worse?)

      (Quote)

  38. That was a good fight and IMO good starting line up. People who criticise HBA taken off are probably the same who were angry he was brought in too early after his last injury. Gosling`s inclusion bas more of question mark for me but we hadn`t much choice. This was hardly a game where you want to put the pressure on the young lads. Anita maybe, but personally I don`t rate him.

Decent game for NUfC but unfortunately the rivals did better.

      (Quote)

  39. Look at BBC Sport’s live update thing now. Everyone is slamming us and saying we’re going down. Only one suggested Norwich.

We’ve got the whole country and media on us and that will make this child-like squad mentality crumble.

      (Quote)

  40. M12 – I have called Cisse a fucking LEMON all season, and he is still yet to prove me wrong.
I always said we got rid of the wrong “striker” -(I use the word thru gritted teeth 👿 )
There is literally no where left to go.
We are getting relegated in my eyes.
And some people called Hughton “clueless”
Pardumdum far exceeds clueless, he is off the fecking scale

      (Quote)

  41. Brisvegas
Norwich will get three points at home to WBA. WBA are on their holidays

      (Quote)

  42. We have won ONE away game all season! Why does anyone think we will win against QPR?

We need inspiration and we need a new manager!

      (Quote)

  43. I just hope Stoke aren’t on their holidays on Monday neet
we really need them to beat the scum to keep them in the mix too

      (Quote)

  44. BB@293 ,There is no reason in my eyes why Pards can’t play Campbell ,I don’t wanna hear all this he’s too young bollocks ,at this stage in these desperate times ,just put the kid on and tell him to fill his boots. If he fails he fails but every opo manager expects Shola as first sub ,lets mix it up last two games ffs, be brave Pards were going down anyway so may as well try it you never know.
