Forget everything else! Our time is now…

newcastle-fans1 I just thought I’d pen a quick article asking for calm from everyone ahead of our final two league fixtures of the season.

Please don’t confuse my plea for calm as an indication that I’m happy or for people not to panic. It’s more that I’m asking everyone to focus on what is most important and that is our quest for survival.

I keep hearing a lot of questions that have been brought about by our poor season. Understandably so and I realise that it’s always going to happen after a season like we’ve had. However I just think it’s time to knock the questions on the head, temporarily, until we know what is what and where we’ll be next season.

The reality is that none of the kinds of questions posed can be adjudged to have any real accuracy until we know if we’re going to survive or not. Everything is on hold at the moment and whilst I’m not saying anyone should be oblivious to the spectre of relegation, I do think our focus needs to shift from tearing things apart to expending every ounce of willingness we have towards our team.

There will be plenty of time for everyone to dissect things after the season has gone and we know how things stand. That’s part of the reason there aren’t many articles on here at the moment as I can’t bring myself to think about anything else right now. We shouldn’t be in the mess but we are and getting out of it is more important than finger pointing or laying blame.

This isn’t one of those “support your team” articles. Quite frankly I think we’ve been superb all season and have stayed with the team far longer than perhaps we would have done in the past. It’s more a reminder that it’s pointless looking too far ahead when it’s things in the very near future which will determine what happens next.

These next two weeks are vital and it starts tonight with Wigan v Swansea. In an ideal world Swansea will do us a favour and beat Wigan but unfortunately for us the Welsh side seem to already be on their summer holidays whilst Wigan look up for the scrap again.

Come on Swansea!

  1. The latest from Pardew that Ben Arfa is still having problems with his hamstring are frustrating. His hamstring is 100% according to Ben Arfa’s specialist. Then Pardew turns around and says we need Ben Arfa’s scoring ability in the lineup? What does Ben Arfa make of this? I can’t make head nor tail of it. Is Pardew already preparing an excuse for Ben Arfa for our next game? This seems to be the only type of planning Pardew is capable of.

  2. I still don’t think Ash will go for a big manager. He might sack pards and go for an untested or fairly hungry one, but a top manager? Not a chance imo. I stick by the fact that Ashley wants us to succeed because he wants his money back as fast as he can get it. He wants to buy top young talent because that top young talent will ideally bring big money with which he can again, recoup his money.

Bringing in managers only means payouts and then higher wages, for someone who is not a tangible asset. I agree an attacking manager with an array of technically sound coaches would transform our squad, but this is simply outlay, especially if he has to sack them all again. I think Ash would prefer us to stick to being secure in the prem whilst buying foreign talents and selling them on after a year or two…trouble is that hasn’t worked for us-in fact the Ba scenario has royally ****** us.

  3. If Ashley wants us to be secure in the Prem Newkie @152 then he will have to get some football men into our management setup. If he insists on keeping Llambias then the manager will have to be much better than Pardew and have more say in who we bring in. Hanging on to the bottom of the non-relagation positions won’t be good enough. Finishing 12th-16th won’t be good enough either. Having us in 17th place is not a good advertisement for our players. They won’t go for big fees if they continue to play for Pardew and produce one poor performance after another. If Ashley wants his money back he had better do something about this.

  4. B & B,
Your constant nit picking and attempted point scoring against your brother is becoming intolerable and boring.
LET IT GO AND GROW UP!

  5. I think that with the extra tv money coming in next season, Ashley WILL invest in a proven manager.
But only if we survive the drop and I doubt it will be a proven PL manager either.
Pointless spending money on young talent from the continent and expecting them to perform under the guidance of an old school British clogger who is clueless at best.
Once again I think it will be written off as a learning experience for the fat controller. Hopefully it hasn’t bitten him on his **** too badly and we can all move on from this dreadful season.
If the worst should happen, then I really don’t know what will happen.

  6. Batty – what odds did you get.
I got 7-1 last night on a 2-0 win for wigan.
I only splashed a tenner tho.

  7. Well if Pardew is sacked in the summer and we are still in the premiership their is a top dutch manager available who i think would be great for us . Bert van Marwijk , Plenty of football knowledge and great at building good teams on a low budget .

  8. Spot on BB @156 this experiment to find stability with Pardew hasn’t worked. That is very clear. Forget the 8 year contract it won’t help at all with the wrong man in charge. The way forward surely must be clear to Ashley now as well. We can’t resort to buying overly expensive English players that Pardew might (and I do mean might) be able to work with. There is only one way forward and that is with a manager who understands the mentality of the core of our team. Bring on the summer and let’s get this underway properly Ashley. Let’s hope we’re still in Prem after this gigantic cockup of a season.

  9. Out of curiosity – if any of you got the man you wanted as manager – and we kept the EXACT same squad going into next season – what position would you be expecting us to finish? What position would you be disappointed with? And how long would you be willing to give them?
Just a bit weary that we are constantly dreaming of a manager that will turn things around, our history shows we aren’t exactly flooded with successes.

  10. If Pardew manages to come up with a win against QPR we will be on 41 points. Previous season totals:
    97/98 – Dalglish – 44 points
    98/99 – Gullit – 46 points
    04/05 – Souness – 44 points
    06/07 – Roeder – 43 points
    07/08 – Allardyce/Keegan – 43 points
So basically EVERY manager we have had in the PL era has been ***** other than Sir Bobby and Keegan (both of whom has world class players at their disposal). Each of those managers had decent money to spend.
I’d ideally want it to be someone other than Pardew, the fact remains though, we are fucking **** at giving managers time. Why would it be any different with someone new 😕

  11. Those are very interesting stats ST @163. Part of it points up the ladder to the top. We have had some horrible managing directors up there and our current owner is no football genius either. It will be a real struggle to be patient if he doesn’t go out and bring in someone decent, give him some real power and stop behaving like a hurt child taking his toys and going home (right then, nobody loves me, I’m selling the club). The past is over with, I want a decent future for the club. We have some good players who have lost faith in a poor manager. Let’s do something about it.

  12. Here is how i see it,

If Wigan win tonight, i seriously believe that we will be relegated as i expect us to gain a maximum of only one more point (away to QPR).
Wigan will then play out a draw or possibly beat Villa to ensure their safety and send us down on goal difference.

Pardew’s stubborness, tactical ineptitude and negativity will see us relegated under his Stewardship. The man is a “Fool” and Charlatan.

Can’t wait for the end of the season, come what may, he MUST Go!

  13. TGS @ 154 I agree 100% its like watching paint dry, and its hard to believe it’s from a grown man 😳
As for 165 “Can’t wait for the end of the season, come what may, he MUST Go!” I agree with that providing it’s a top manager that will make us climb the Prem and not another side step.

  14. im fu**in sick of watching **** teams pass better then us. or should i say can string more than 2-3 passes together 🙄

  15. Dave,
To be fair mate, I am with you on wanting a top class replacement, can’t see it though.
I will be happy with a manager who can motivate and develop a TEAM by playing guys in their rightful positions and trying to win every game,
    Fingers crossed 😉

  16. TGS I don’t think we’ll have long to wait to find out what type of manager we will have for next season, as im sure if Jabba is going to go after a new one it will be pretty quick to give him plenty of time, but then you can never tell with him what he’ll do.

Swansea look pretty poor up to now and their passing is dire

      (Quote)

  17. I have to admit Swansea don’t look up for it today. They don’t have much in attack at all. Wigan look keen to score.

  18. Looks like Wigan the more likely tonight 🙄 Swansea really missing Michu ,makes you wonder where they’d be without him.

      (Quote)

  19. What about Remi Garde if we go for a french manager ,his contract is running out .He did well as a coach and then assistant at Lyon.

      (Quote)

  20. Dave ,I reckon they owe their position to Michu tbh.
Might have to pop off in and out ,not ignoring folk ,just lew is under the weather ,horrendous cough and cold and he ends up spewing if he coughs too much .

      (Quote)

  21. Good luck with Lewis Kimtoon. I think you’re right about Michu. What a tremendous player for them this season. Would have to look up Remi Garde’s record. I hope Ashley is doing his homework before we hire someone.

      (Quote)

  22. Thanks G2 ,I don’t know a great deal about Garde but I know he was highly regarded as a coach at LYON and then as assistant to Houlier ,just a thought really ,doubtless others on the blog that follow French football will know more than me though.

  23. cant be arsed to watch this. totally miserable.

The match y’day was bad enuf. Its us or Norwich unfortunately. I can see wigan beating Villa.

      (Quote)

  24. Kim @ 183 I don’t want to try our luck with someone else for me we deserve a top manager that has a proven track record, anything else and we could be in the same state in 2 or so yrs as we are now

  25. i think we are now in a spot of bother ffs . A second relegation in 4 years Thanks Pardew you ******.

  26. Dave ,this is his first bad cold since the big Sinus op ,the real test will be once the cold is gone if he is left with infected sinuses again . Thing is he’s not able to blow his nose so it trickles down the back of his throat and then he coughs and sometimes spews 👿 .I have been wipeing it every two secs but it still bothers him 🙁 .Will go to docs tommorow if he gets worse though not sure they can do a lot ,least I can get his chest checked if nowt else.

Hope to christ Swansea come out the traps second half like ,don’t fancy us being in the bottom 3 much.

      (Quote)

  27. So does anyone think going into the bottom 3 will give the players a kick up the fcking **** and make our manager actually go for a win?

  28. i think we are now in a spot of bother ffs . A second relegation in 4 years Thanks Pardew you ******. i think i will just jump in front of the on coming reality train and end this effing nightmare .

  29. I wonder if the deluded pardew is watching this or is he having a nice meal with his wife telling her how lucky she is for having an England candidate for a husband.. 🙄

  30. i hate it when ppl say we dont deserve to stay up. if it wasnt for the **** manager i’m sure this team has enough to stay up..

      (Quote)

  31. C’mon guys, what do you really expect tonight other than the “Cockroaches” winning. 😉

      (Quote)

  32. Well I don’t think Norwich ,Swansea ,Stoke ,Saints or Fulham and Scum are streets ahead of us . Fact is I still think we have the better players just we have had an unsettled team due to injuries and a poor tactician for a manager. I do agree though that if we can’t get a result when it really matters against QPR then we deserve it .

      (Quote)

  33. C’mon Swansea ffs at least have a go, Wigan are flapping

    and with that 1.1 😀

      (Quote)

  34. Hate to admit it but the style of Wigan’s football is so much better than ours. And they never seem to drop their heads when they let one in. A lesson to all clubs in the bottom 10 (including us). I think they have great confidence in themselves and their manager.

      (Quote)

  35. Isn’t it such a disgrace we are all watching this game and wanting/needing Swansea to get something from this game to keep us out of the bottom 3?

Sad, sad indictment of the pathetically toothless, ambitionless and cheap Ashley regime.

By the way get the fck in!! But it changes fck all. It’s a disgrace and cannot see this game finishing 2-2.

  36. A giveaway and Swansea tie it up. Caldwell is always a worry at the back for Wigan. 😆
