Remy completes Newcastle switch

Remy finally signs on
Remy finally signs on
Newcastle United have completed the signing of Loic Remy from QPR on a season long loan deal.

The French striker arrives at St James’ Park some six months later than originally planned after he opted to join QPR over us in January which is a cause for some concern amongst some of our fans who feel as though we’re second choice.

Personally, if he delivers the goods for us then I don’t really care about what happened in January. The 26-year-old has a lot to prove ahead of the World Cup next summer and plans to break back into the French squad. To do that he must perform for Newcastle first and foremost and if he does than we can sign him up permanently next summer.

Remy scored six goals in 14 appearances for relegated QPR last term which is not too bad considering the situation they were in combined with the fact that the Premier League was new to him. With six months of experience behind him perhaps he could manage an ever better return?

Speaking to the club website Remy admitted that he is delighted to finally be here:

“It will be a huge honour to play for such a big club. I was very flattered by the Club’s interest in me back in January and also very happy that they showed interest in me again this summer,” said Remy.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world and that’s where I want to play. I am very motivated this year to get into the World Cup squad for my country. I know in order to do that I need to have a big season and a successful campaign with Newcastle United.”

He added: “I am focussed on helping the team achieve success this season and scoring as many goals as I can.”

United’s director of football, Joe Kinnear, said: “The need for us to strengthen up front was a priority and I have been working very hard to secure one of our targets in this position.

“I’m delighted to have secured Loic for the season. Now we have him I’m sure he’ll be a huge success for us; I know he’s hungry for goals and is absolutely committed to helping us achieve success this season.”

While Alan Pardew added: “Loic is a great player and I’m delighted that Joe has got him on board for us. He’ll be a great addition to the squad, he gives us strength and pace up front and I’m sure he’ll bring plenty of goals.”

“It’s a big season for Loic, like it is for all our international players ahead of the World Cup, which will only provide extra incentive for him to play at the very top of his game.”

I’ve seen a few people mention that this is “just a loan deal” but to be fair it’s worth pointing out that Hatem Ben Arfa was just a loan signing before he was signed on a permanent basis so it’s not all bad on that front.

Welcome to Newcastle, Loic.

  1. GEORGIO rather than bent i would look at Doyle at wolves can hold the ball up well has a good work rate, not saying hes the answer but cheap as chips at a mill and better than shola imo

  2. KIM sorry looks like something has broke down,(dont mean gomis) but 24hrs isnt up yet 😉 so still hope, well at least i have

      (Quote)

  3. @451 – yeah Kim, he keeps saying that… makes u wonder if Pardew understands what a ‘no.10’ is supposed to be

Maloney would be a much better shout, is roughly the same age (ie. older than those we usually recruit)… and actually has the attributes to play ‘no.10’

      (Quote)

  4. The debate on twitter is irrelevant really as Blanc didn’t say we weren’t a big club, quite the opposite in fact. If ***** like Lee Ryder printed what was actually said rather than his selective editing designed to cause the most controversy and **** people off they’d get a bit more respect.

  5. Kim, I think Anita was good last season and Marveux but Pardew doesn’t see it. He perseveres with Jonas and Toite and is to frightened to drop them even after a poor result. I like 442 when it works but Pardew is useless

      (Quote)

  6. Kim – Pardew’s the only one in the world who thinks Sissoko is a No 10 or even a right winger. Bloke’s mad as well as useless.

Ice – decent shout on Doyle but he just doesn’t score enough for a centre forward. We need a real No 10. Remy could be it I suppose – we’ll see.
I also think we need another CB. Maybe someone 31- 32 who wouldn’t mind being 3rd or 4th choice. And a new manager.

      (Quote)

  7. Is that the news you were talking about Ice or is the news in 24hrs something else. Please elaborate.

      (Quote)

  8. Ice – now that looks like something from the Carr list. Any more info. Is he Serb or Swiss?

  9. GEORGIO aye mate i know remy is a right canny player, but did not know he was 6ft 1in tall 😯

  10. AS kna mate i cannot elaborate.i know certain people that sometimes know things was 70% on it,ime not wum and dont start rumours ill say if i find out defo, but as you know the window can change very fast one minute its on another minute its off if better offer comes in,all down to scum bag agents mate

      (Quote)

  11. M aye saw that that mate just ignored that as jabba will only spend buttons on kids would think he will cost a few quid

      (Quote)

  12. That ESPN articles a totally different slant on what i read earlier sums up the press in this country. They also conveniently left out the bit about them not being interested at this mo.

As for Spuds im assuming their interest will die a death if/when Capoue signs ?? If not you can still **** right off anyway…

  13. I notice we have let 6 first team players leave and brought in one. Impressive squad management this like.

    I can see why Pardew thinks we’re well equipped for a good season… 🙄 🙄 😯 😯

  14. PREM @474 aye now hes not a bad player mate, but would that be another ANC player going missing when it comes around again mate

      (Quote)

  15. NEWKIE – if pards wins us a few titles he can say what he wants!!

PREM – I watched confed cup and African Nations and brown ideye is average.

  16. Enjoying all your comments. The nice thing about today is there haven’t been any new statements from Pardew. Have we had a good buildup for the season? I would argue no. Braga is decent opposition but Motherwell and Rangers? Ridiculous. What must our French contingent be thinking? We got Morecombe away in the second round cup draw. Can we beat them? I know Pardew will come out immediately and tell us again the domestic cups are a high priority for the club. Oh yes and he’ll repeat yet again that he took a club to an fa cup final (yawn).

      (Quote)

  17. Just out of curiosity Stuart79 @476 who are the 6 first team players who have left mate? I can think of Simpson, Ranger, and Xisco but the others don’t come to mind. I know Amalfitano and Abeid have been transfer listed (according to NUFC.com) as well.

      (Quote)

  18. Oh haven’t been on here in a wile 😀

I see the same old trolls are still present though 🙁

On the Remy deal (old news i know) Our team looks a lot stronger with just one signing which is great. Would like another winger (Jonas, don’t need to explain :D) and maybe another CB (would like a young guy for cover)

I would be very happy with that if the above happened. Probably wont though but i will still be happy if we don’t lose anyone of importance by the end of the window.

Im sure some people on here are happy Derek Llambias is out 😛

      (Quote)

  19. Yes everything looks good on paper Santii. I think we need a very decent winger, another young striker to compete with Campbell and some sort of gritty AMF. Cabaye doesn’t handle the hard tackling well and Bigi isn’t ready yet. Another CB would be fine as well. We have a lot of very decent ball handlers but most of the hard tackling gets done by Tiote and sometimes Debuchy. I’d like to see more grit in the spine. Nice to see you on here again mate.

  20. I would love to know what Joe actually makes of our squad as it stands now. He seems to have calmed down a fair bit. I was sorry to hear of his son’s death. That happened a while ago apparently? I see Haidara has been training according to NUFC.com as well as Bigi but have they seen any time on the pitch in the preseason? I’m anxious to see how Tiote starts the season and how Pardew chooses to play him. If he can recover his form as a true DM it would be a huge lift for the team.

  21. G2 just a thought but if club want another c/f (anybody but shola) i would throw shane long into the hat,has pace and grafts well for the team, and imo the type of player pardew likes to throw long balls at 🙁

      (Quote)

  22. I hope Pardew is taking french lessons. How will they understand him at h/t. They could be taking the **** out of him in a different language

      (Quote)

  23. I’ve always admired Shane Long’s work rate ice mate. He might be a nice fit with us. I don’t know where he stands with West Brom. He’s scored 16 goals in 64 games with them so not prolific but he creates for others as well with his pace. I know many have spoken before about him. Compared with Ranger or Xisco he would be a breath of fresh air.

      (Quote)

  24. Or we could just trade managers with Arsenal STEM @495? 😆 😆 I would really enjoy seeing the looks on the gooners faces.

      (Quote)

  25. G2 they are trying to get long to sign a new contract as we speak,so would have to move now imo mate

      (Quote)

  26. Would you prefer to spend money on a winger or a striker first ice? I’m wondering if we do bid for Sinclair (about 5M if the papers are ever correct) then would there be any spare change left in the kitty to bid for Long? I’m guessing about the same amount or a bit more to realistically even bid for Long? STEM I would take Wenger in a heartbeat as well mate.

      (Quote)

  27. The gooners would kill Pardew. He would take them back ten years. At half time they must look at him and think, what’s he saying to me. I think communication could be an issue ? I might be wrong but if we continue with french signings then we need a manager that can speak fluent french and english.

      (Quote)

  28. santii@504 so we need a good manager that can speak fluent french and english. Wenger the best there is in my opinion.

      (Quote)

  29. G2 as ive said before i worry a bit on sinclair i was checking him out a few months back on diff sites/rags ect and one of the reasons he played little at city was because the lad needs a opp to remove a rib and had a blood clot problem but didnt know the best time to have it,but Kim has said hes had the opp but i can find anywhere that said he has had it,so ime a bit iffy on it mate, def need a winger who can cross a bloody ball in the right manner

      (Quote)

  30. Not sure I follow you there Santii @503. You don’t think of Wenger as a good manager?

      (Quote)

  31. That makes it quite complicated with Sinclair then ice mate. I totally agree if we want a decent wide game we need a winger who can cross the ball. Watching Obertan try to do that last season would have been hilarious if it wasn’t so pathetic. His one move is to push the ball wide past the fullback and run like hell. But if he gets the ball back he has no clue about what to do with it 90% of the time. What a shame for him. His career is slipping away.

      (Quote)

  32. Stem – “what i’m trying to say we need a french manager”

Santii – “No we don’t….. We need a good manager!!!”

Nothing about Wenger in there bud 😀

Though there is more chance of getting Bale than us getting Wenger as manager lol

      (Quote)

  33. True santii, who do you think would be a good manager ? Please realistically ? Do you think communication is not a problem with all the french signings ?

      (Quote)

  34. G2 @508 aye mate, red nose sussed him out early doors after his early promise, but thats the thing mate clubs will sign players that are at m/u,thing is when that club trys to off load them they find few buyers imo

      (Quote)

  35. Aye ice why would red nose sell him for 2M pounds to us (was it?) if he was any good? The price should have been the giveaway there. They don’t sell decent players for tiny amounts of money. Simpson was half decent for us but otherwise it’s hard to get a bargain from that Scottish chap over there. As for decent managers STEM you know where we stand there mate. Ashley doesn’t want a good manager he wants a yes man. He’ll put up with Pardew’s bollocks as long as we don’t get relegated and aren’t embarrassing him further with home losses like a couple I seem to remember from last season.

      (Quote)

  36. It’s sad to see that Newcastle don’t have faith in British players anymore. Look at Jenas, Dyer, Milner, Bellamy all did well in the lower league’s and for us.

      (Quote)

  37. COME ON, Bale started in the lower league’s ffs. I don’t think Carr is as good as everyone thinks

      (Quote)

  38. STEM carrs remit is to look abroad mate not uk,we have other scouts for that, ime saying they are any good but we have them

      (Quote)

  39. My impression is that Carr has been told to focus almost entirely overseas where players are cheaper and wages are lower STEM mate. I think he’s been very good for us as head scout but every scout makes mistakes. I’m not even sure Obertan was vetted by him or was he just grabbed because he was cheap?

      (Quote)

  40. a player i would really like is Alderweireld hes a top c/h more so at 6mil and show willo the door but looks like everton will beat us to the punch 🙁

      (Quote)

  41. Icedog@515 Our english scouts need to be sacked if that’s the case. I would like to see more british than french imo. G2 I only wish is, if he does that bad again he gets sacked mate. I’m hoping Ashley will sale the club and that’s the reason for hardly any signings

      (Quote)

  42. Our thoughts are similar much of the time ice mate. I agree with you about Alderweireld as well mate. That’s why Everton are trying to snap him up. We’re too slow and too cheap. It’s painful to watch us try to stumble around in the transfer market. I think Ashley feels he already did the bulk of his signings in January STEM mate. But he’s wrong, those signings should have been made last summer. And now we’re at least 2 steps behind everyone else again. There can be no excuses but I point the finger straight at Ashley. He dithers with Llambias as MD, then sacks him and brings in Joe as DoF who isn’t up to speed and has family matters to attend to. The squad is decent but still thin in spots and my worries also include Pardew and his lack of both spoken French and decent tactics.
