Kinnear caught in truth shocker!

So Kinnear wasn’t telling porkies about Gomis…
It seems as though I may have underestimated our “friend” Joe Kinnear in light of recent events.

Up until now I had thought that he was just an old guy, eccentric, out of touch and with a massive gob on him that he was unable to control.

In truth I still think the same way and I’m unsure if him holding the position of Director of Football will ever work out, but to be fair to him he has actually been speaking a bit of truth regarding this window’s protracted transfer target (we seem to have one every window!) which is of course Bafetimbi Gomis.

The other day Kinnear gave an interview basically saying that the goalposts keep being shifted regarding the deal and things keep changing due to the involvement of other people. Given the way our incoming transfer dealings can be drawn out I (like many perhaps?) took this statement as a signal of us just messing Gomis and Lyon about and trying to look busy rather than actually being busy.

However reports in France, from Lyon in fact, seem to back Joe Kinnear up. Seemingly Marseille have been reported for trying to disrupt the deal between Gomis and Newcastle despite the fact that the Lyon owner wants Gomis to come to Newcastle and has accepted our bid.

So maybe I’ve been too hard on Joe?

Time will tell on that one but time is something that is running out in this window and with no resolution in sight is it not perhaps now time to move down the list of striking options rather than wasting time on a deal that looks to be on the verge of collapse?

Maybe things will get sorted, maybe they won’t. All I care about is seeing the squad strengthened and everything I read or hear about Gomis seems to suggest that we’re some way away from achieving that with this deal.

Time to move on or not?

  1. Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory, Newcastle Jets, Central Coast Mariners. The A-League is full of them. It takes some getting used to, but I don’t mind the concept now. Don’t think it works for established clubs, though.

  2. Stem – if the lad can stay fit I’d absolutely agree with you. Feel really sorry for him coz I’m sure if he had been fit last season he’d have played quite regularly.
Campbell may make it but needs to go on loan IMO and play and score regularly to build his strength and confidence/arrogance.
Dummett seems to have done quite well in pre season as well and Pardew seems to rate him, but it’s still very early days for him I think.
The jury is still out on the rest for me though.

  3. Winger’s we need 2 if you ask me but nobody seems to have noticed this at Newcaste ? Only the fans seem to have noticed. Pardrew must still have faith and trust in Jonas and Orbertan. He might just think they will improve in time and see’s better performance’s in training ?

  4. Campbell needs time in the championship not scotland. If Kinnear gets him on loan to Yoevil or somewhere he wont have to much competition up front it might work. He needs regular football and build his confidence. Gary Johnson would do that but wages are a big issue.

  5. Stem – Pardews favoured formation is 4-2-3-1 or possibly 4-3-3 so he want look at what we see as wingers that would hug the line in a 4-4-2 formation. I think they tried to turn Jonas into a winger but he’s not great at crossing the ball. I think Obertan is a winger they tried to change into something else – trouble is he’s not great at anything other than running fast.
We only need wingers if we are playing 4-4-2 really. Any other formation you just need players who can put a decent ball into the box.

  6. Stem – what about Coventry?. They are struggling for players, so he’d probably get a full season for them. I know it’s a lower league but if he can get 20 plus full games at that level and bang in 15 goals, surely that it’s gonna do him better than bit part at a championship side. He’s only 18 so could even go to a championship team the season after.

  7. sharpy I’m don’t like the 4-2-3-1 formation. It might work once or twice but it seems difficult to score goals. Orbertan would be better suited in the centre of midfield because of his pace, never been tried. Sinclaire gets mentioned not sure if his left or right footed. Left seems to be our biggest weakness. I like to see the diamond 4 1 2 1 2.

      (Quote)

  8. Stem – Sinclair mainly played Left for Swansea and I think that’s his preferred side to be honest but think he can play either.
He’d be a solid addition but there’s mention of him needing a hip operation.

I posted my preferred formation earlier on post 22.

      (Quote)

  9. Sharpy Coventry would be a great place for him to start. Unless he likes seating on the bench for Newcaste. I really think he could make it but would Kinnear or Pardew let him thats the thing.

  10. I like one attacking midfield theory. Ben Arfa linking it to Remy or Cisse if he stays fit, I hope so. The only reason I like a defensive midfielder is it might help take a little bit of pressure of the back four at times but he can push up front like your formation ? Pardew get it sorted

We are acting like paupers it’s embarrassing .£60M t.v revenue a bit from our European exploits ,gate receipts ,shirt sales and what ever and we spend £2m on a loan ,even his wages will be covered by the freed up wages on the ones we have shifted and fees recouped for those loaned out. Come on Jabba ,don’t be a tight *&$£. 😳

As far as Kinnear is concerned, I think he’s been unneccessarily demonised by press and fans alike. It’s refreshing to see this acknowledged somewhat.

  19. @Sharpy, Georgio & everyone

I posted this in previous thread but maybe it gone with the wind.. Never mind, i will post this again with some editing. Still I could be wrong though.

25 Man Squad for 2013/2014 so far:
Krul (HG), Coloccini, Santon*, Cabaye, Williamson (HG), Sissoko, Anita, Cisse, Ben Arfa, Gouffran, Yanga-Mbiwa, Gosling (HG), Raylor (HG), Amalfitano, Gutierrez, Elliot (HG), Marveaux, Shola (HG), Tiote, Obertan, Debuchy, Saylor (HG), Remy*

    Total: 23 players, 7 Homegrowns.
    * new additions

Those who are born on or after 1 Jan 1992 are counted as U-21 for this season. In the 25 men squad at least 8 must be homegrowns. Homegrowns does not equal to British. If we registered less than 8, the maximum squad number available will be reduced according to the numbers of HG submitted.

These guys need to be registered to be eligible to play in Premier League this season: SANTON (last season he survived, by a day), Tavernier (HG), Dummett (HG). Newton and Ferguson has gone out on loan so no need to worry about them now.

I am expecting Tavernier and Dummett to be registered in the 25 man squad (for the sake of HG quota) although Tav should be loaned out for longer time to get regular gametime (with option for recall). Dummett’s future at the club will depend on what Pards want to do with Haidara (he is still counted as U-21 this season).

There are some players who may not contribute to our team but taking up squad places (e.g. Amalfitano) , so they needed to be shown the door. However some of us may complain about getting rid of more fringe players.

Do Raylor needed to be registered? His injury was very serious isn’t it? We may run out of HGs to be registered so maybe we need to sign some British/Britain based players. 😕

  20. Georgio-Aye was only pulling your leg. I just think we need better players from wherever…there aren’t too many english lads I would have liked. Would have been nice to get johnson last year but then 10mil-is he worth it? 😕 Send Carr to SAmerica and lets find real gems 😕

Stem@96-I know he’s cut the donuts and all but slim, really? 😕

      (Quote)

  21. Toon TRW – thanks for that mate, I did miss your previous post sorry. Don’t the players who are registered have to be over a certain age as well and those under that age are free for selection or is that on old rule?.
I didn’t give Amalfitano a squad place which is why I was quoting 22.
Is yours off the official site or your workings out

      (Quote)

  22. Stem – sorry mate been out cutting the grass, I never saw Kim’s link but if Sinclair is sorted with his op and we can get him for £5m or even £6m, I think he’s a better option than Tom Ince at £8m.

      (Quote)

  23. Sharpy @105 – Nevermind, it is ok. Yes, that is also right mate. Those aged more than 21 need to be registered so they can play in PL.

I see your point about Amalfitano. I am still puzzled why on earth we signed him if he is no better than Gosling (who is now about 5th or 6th choice CM).

No, it was just some findings after searching around Google.

  25. Fairly sure i saw every Mehdi Abeid appearance for the 1st team and he rarely showed anything above chocolate fireguard shitness. He certainly never made the same impact as Bigirimana and Vuckic when they have been dropped in at the deep end and Dummett is a natural left back who can cover centre half. Hes a much better defensive option than shoehorning wee Fergie there. Something Pardews had more than his share of stick for doing with other players.

      (Quote)

  26. I think Pardew sees the writing on the wall. His many comments attempting to downplay our chances this season are part of it. We’ll go into the season with Remy and a winger as our incoming. We’ll continue to generate more injuries on average than most teams. Some of our young players are made of glass, I’m thinking of Gosling and Vuckic in particular. Colo wants out and my guess is he will sit out “injured” fairly often. Cabaye doesn’t look the same player after his first tremendous season, nor does Tiote. Will Sissoko follow the same route? Those are concerns. I’ve written off a top 6 finish with the attitude of our manager being what it is and it looks like Ashley is committed to mediocrity at best for us. On the positive side I think Remy will make a real impact and our attack will be better. The defense is still a worry in my view.

      (Quote)

  27. I reckon the toon will be fighting hard to hang onto Cabaye and HBA up until the end of the transfer window. Especially with the noises that Blanc is making at the moment.
We may get one more player over the line, maybe Gomis or Bent.
If things turn to rat **** the knee-**** buying will take place in January…pretty much like last season.

My biggest gripe is the absolutely pish style of play which Pardew had us playing last season. If we can’t improve on that, and at least be a tad more entertaining then I’ll be peeved, cos it’s so boring to watch, this defense first capitulation ****…On the same note, if we see anymore of the Jonas shuffle, then I’ll really despair. The bloke is just way off the pace.. Shuffle, shuffle, fall over…I hate it.. 😳

      (Quote)

  28. Dave I also heard the interview and what I heard was some was responding to comments from fans that he knew nowt and saying words to the effect of what do they know there just thick.

now I certainly did not think that was saying blanket all NUFC fans are thick. Nor did I take it as anything beyond banter returning the compliment so to speak, However by next day all hell had broken out and apparently he had started world war three. Seems there are some sensitive types out there.

      (Quote)

  29. Spot on Munich @111. Our style of play is terrible. In fact its not really fair to call it a style. The long ball is here to stay with Pardew at least some of the time because he has no decent plan of how to break out of our half. Jonas is terrible and one of the few who doesn’t recognize it is Pardew. Our wingers can’t cross the ball (well Obertan certainly can’t) so they constantly cut in which everyone knows to expect. Santon does the same to get the ball on his right foot. It’s all so predictable. Hopefully the presence of Remy will allow Cisse to get loose more often (without going offside) and bang a few more goals in.

  30. 6 first team players in this year, 3 first team players out this year so we are +3 first team players better off than last year (my math is amazing i know)

So we are in much better shape than we were at the start of last season with better quality players as well only. I will miss Simpson and Perch both because they always give there all and had some cracking games for us but really they are a level below were we want to be. Demba Ba was real quality and we found i very difficult after he left so hopefully Remy can get some of the goals that Ba used to get and we will be good.

All this is without really considering Alan Pardew of course so once his negative tactics starts backfiring all my optimism will go out the window.

This is just a few words of support for you. We know you love all the supporters. Even the ones you called knobs. And we know you have a supreme knowledge of football. We bow down to you every day (I usually do it in the bog). Your patience and quiet appraisal of all around you, including all the jouro’s you know and love so well is much appreciated. As a potential motivational speaker you would be unmatched, especially to our youth. Well I’m getting a bit misty now so I’ll let it go at that for now Joe. All the best.

Prem I dont think the bad reaction he got was just because he called fans thick, there was a few other things that got fans turning against him, he couldn’t even get some of our players names right, he blatently told lies about Perch and Krul ( or maybe he just forgot ) winning 3 LMA’s etc etc. and telling us that he was the main man and he would decide who stays and goes.

  43. Dear Joe, I know it’s not easy being director of football and I am not as smart as you. OMCHS: Joe you were reported in the press as saying you won 3 LMA awards. Is that correct?
Joe: What f**king **** said that? Christ how can they call themselves journo’s? It was 7 LMA awards, 3 were consecutive, that’s probably what got them confused.
OMCHS: and Joe some of the supporters are under the impression that you don’t respect their intelligence. Any comment”
Joe: again lord love a f**king duck. What I actually said was that if all the supporters brains were combined and turned into dynamite it wouldn’t blow the cowboy hat off a mosquitoes head. Any more ridiculous questions?
OMCHS: just one more Joe, you seem to be getting a bit red in the face and sweating profusely. Some of the supporters are a little concerned about our lack of activity in the window. What would you say to that?
Joe: right then what pillock said that? Have you got a name for me? We’ve already made one move, what does that plonker expect? Right, I’ve had enough of this load of bollocks I’m off.

  49. This is what Brown Ideye agent said in may.

There has been a lot of interest from English clubs, but Newcastle would be Brown’s preferred choice for a number of reasons.” “They have a good fan-base and play an attacking style of football.” 😯

“He has good knowledge of the club and of the Premier League. Brown would love to test himself at that level.” “He would like to move to England and we will look at all our options in the summer.”

😆 😆 😆 😆 I take it he did watch us last season.

  50. We would never bid enough to get Marvin Martin Kimtoon unless we got 20-25M for Cabaye. As for Brown Ideye, opinions are mixed on him at best. Played poorly in the confed cup. I saw him a couple of times which isn’t enough but he was very average in both games.
