How are you feeling ahead of the new season?

To The Etihad and beyond!
With just five days until our season opener at Manchester City, I thought perhaps now is the time to ask everyone how they are feeling ahead of the new season.

So far another disappointing transfer has seen supporter frustration levels grow – levels which haven’t been helped by bizarre decisions like hiring Joe Kinnear as Director of Football.

However there is at least some welcome distraction upcoming. Not just for fans of United but for fans of every Premier League club. The new season brings new feelings so I’m just asking what everyone thinks about the new season, what their expectations are and so on.

To be fair, if you look at our opening fixture, it doesn’t make for good reading. Manchester City away is one of the toughest games in the league these days which doesn’t bode well when you combine that with our ability to just simply forget to turn up and roll over whenever we face them.

I call it a “gimme game” in the sense that I expect nothing from it so if we sneak a point or three by whatever means I’d be over the moon but the reality is that achieving that is going to be massively against the odds. If the expected happens and we do get best it’s important to remember that City will beat better teams than us this season and not to get too down about it.

In a way our season starts properly with the two games after Manchester City. Two home games against West Ham and Fulham and I’d be expecting us to take the bull by the horn in those games with us being the home team and, with the greatest of respect to them, both sides not being in the same league as a Manchester City.

I think those three games will give us a clearer idea of how things are looking. Football is unpredictable a lot of the time so all of it is an unknown really. I’m just wondering how everyone else is feeling before the big kick-off on Monday evening?

Your thoughts please…

P.S – Don’t forget that we’ll be cranking up the volume here on NUFC Blog the closer we get to the match on Monday so make sure you check back for match previews, stats and facts ahead of the big game.

  1. Can’t believe the Arsenal v Villa score like wtf. The get many more results like that and i can see the fans calling for Wenger’s head (again)

  2. Mackem lost. I thought they have bought a new team. 😆
We may still lost 3-0 on Monday though. 🙁

@Fans Bony returned late to Swans. Friendly on early Thursday in the State I believe. But Wolfswinkel looks pretty good.

No matter how bad newcastle make us feel you can always rely on sunderland to bring a smile…

  4. Oh, that’s right–he played in that Mexico-Ivory Coast friendly?

  5. Fulham looked solid away against Sunderland. I suspected they would win. We’ll have difficulty against them. West Ham won as well. And despite losing to Man U at home I think Swansea will have a very decent season. A very good passing team and now with more goals in the lineup with Bony. Some interesting first day games. Wenger better do some quick thinking at Arsenal. Villa have goals in their side as well. What about us?

  6. Sunderland are going to have trouble scoring goals again. Their work rate is decent but that’s about it.

  7. “I think last year the bottom line was we were not threatening the goal enough,” Pardew said.
Some recent comments from Pards. So we’re going to play more attacking football this season? I think we’re all hoping so all. It might help if we had another winger and striker to terrorize the opposition.

  8. Alan Pardew has indicated that Mike Ashley has given him fresh encouragement to bring in a new centre-forward. 🙄

Joe’s on the case, and I THINK Mike agrees with me and Joe that we need one more 🙄

so before 2day was mike discouraging Pardew? well at least we think we may bring someone in 😆

  9. G2@611, sounds like more Pardew bullshit mate 👿 👿 .
We can’t play attacking football, he hasn’t neither the tactical nous nor the players to do it. Our attacking players are far too inconsistent, and piling everything onto HBA’s shoulders is just ridiculous. The guy hasn’t played a full 90 minutes pre-season, and now he’s going to set the EPL on fire ?

  10. Did anyone see phil Bardsly tweet after the Sunderland game 😀

    Something like

    “great opening day… hahaha..hahahahahaha.ahahahahahaha”

lol he is going to be popular this week with the mackems 😛

  11. On our part, it’s important that we bring another striker in.
“It’s obvious that we tried to do that with Darren Bent.
“I’m hoping we get one over the line.
“We need to carry more of an offensive threat

Stop f**king talking about what we all know,,,, we need another striker!! 🙄

how is it obvious we tried with Bent? we asked about him? then nothing for weeks, offered him silly money? Accrington stanley could of went thru those motions.. just bloody sign someone you puppet.. 😛

  12. I listened to a BBC Podcast today discussing the very Bent free transfer move to Fulham. The gist of the story was “that it’s so difficult to sign players these days”. I can believe it, hence Joke Innears statement a few weeks ago about the “goalposts steadily moving”. However, regarding Bent, Newcastle’s name weren’t even mentioned in the podcast 😆 😆 The guy on the receiving end was Palace’s manager Ian Holloway, who mentioned “I have worked 24 hours per day for the last 2 weeks trying to bring in new players”, and who had been told on the morning of the move that Bent was going to Palace. Newcastle weren’t even mentioned at all. Somebody is telling a whole lot of porkies somewhere 😉

btw does Jokeinnear REALLY posess the wherewithall to get our much needed players “over the line” ? 👿

  14. Pardew was at the Fulham v Sunderland games today wonder if he was looking at anyone in particular or just scouting for preparation for our match in the next few weeks.

  15. Bent didn’t even get off the bench today against the makkems… 😉

Lack of fitness, didn’t want to succumb him to the wrath of the makkems….or…..is he on a pay per play deal ?

Bent can buy Michael Owen’s bench-warmer blanket from him…though the probably has one of his own 🙂 And canny lad Alan Pardew thought that cos he had worked with Bent before, and that he’s a diamond geezer, he’d just roll up at the toon chomping at the bit to kick a ball about. WRONG .

  16. @MM

He was supposed to come on around the 70 minute mark but Fulhams keeper got injured and they ran out of subs.

  17. I think the Sunday mirror must write their stories on a Saturday night when they are pissed. They have Newcastle after Willian from Anzhi h 😯 hahahahaha More chance of Will Iam signing for the toon.

  18. Munich@616…I think Bent’s just on loan not a free transfer 😉

Albert’s…Well they have transfer listed the whole squad…reckon they’ll want more than £150’s worth of Sports Direct vouchers for him though…so that’s us out.
