Game On! Morecambe v Newcastle

Game On at the Globe Arena
Game On at the Globe Arena
An early season break from the Premier League will see us enter the League Cup one round earlier than last season due to a lack of European football.

The opposition are Morecambe and the ground is sold out giving the League Two side what will be a record attendance at their new ground, the Globe Arena.

As pointed out in my match preview, Newcastle have not lost a second round League Cup in 23 years but there is a sniff of an upset here. You always know there is a chance of an upset when Sky decide to to televise one of these matches and sure enough they will be at Morecambe this evening.

The good news about that is that it gives people who aren’t at the ground a chance to watch the game, and it also means that there should be some streams knocking about. Normal rules apply, those being that if you find a decent stream then please share it with your fellow Newcastle fans by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

I’m unsure what kind of team we’ll be naming if I’m honest. Part of me says that we should name our strongest team which should, in theory, give us the optimum chance of progressing. The other part of me is thinking perhaps some first team players should be protected on the basis that we don’t have adequate backup to take on a Premier League team should those first team players pick up injuries. We’ll know soon though and all the team news will be detailed below.

That’s about it, I don’t really need to waffle on about the game any longer. Will we record our first win of the season or will we be on the end of another early cup exit?

Howay the lads!

Morecambe: Barry Roche; Mark Hughes, Tony Diagne, Andy Parrish, Andrew Wright; Ryan Williams, Stewart Drummond, Andrew Fleming; Kevin Ellison, Jack Sampson, Padraig Amond

Subs: Andreas Arestidou, Robbie Threlfall, Alex Kenyon, Marcus Marshall, Chris McCready, Joe McGee, Joe Mwasile

Newcastle: Rob Elliot; Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Curtis Good, Paul Dummett; Gael Bigirimana, Dan Gosling; Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic, Sylvain Marveaux; Yoan Gouffran

Subs: Jak Alnwick, Davide Santon, Remie Streete, Vurnon Anita, Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi

  1. HBA warming up. Marveaux MUST go off ? Gouffy has also been ****ing non-existent. Take them ****ing both off, and play with 10 men šŸ‘æ šŸ‘æ šŸ‘æ šŸ‘æ

  2. I’m glad all the Simmo and Willo haters have got their wish. We look solid as a rock without them now, and our new and improved super right back has been sparking attacks for us all night and helping us maintain pos…

oh, wait no. We look worse than ever šŸ˜†

  3. Ash ,he’s reached the paragraph that reads -What to do when lowly league club have you under the cosh . šŸ˜‰

  4. In all fairness to Marv and Gouffron, they are paying either out of position or with a load of crap, Marv has never had one decent ball played in front of him.

  5. Fuk the eyes of the nation are watching Sammi let the ball just….roll out of play… šŸ˜³ šŸ˜³ šŸ˜³

  6. well for me Sammi’s took his chance well along with Good and Dummett. Bigi has looked poor and bottled far too much..

  7. Sammi and Shola, both infuriating but where would we be without them. šŸ‘æ

Shola has a great scoring record so far this season / preseason.

  8. Knacker Ned giving it large and giving it the big fist pump at the first goal. The bloke should be ashamed of himself. Says everything about Pardew’s mental state if this means so much to him.

  9. Well we won but lets be honest the performance was **** , this game raises even more questions than gives answers . Imo our MOTM was our keeper and against this sort of opposition that its bad .

  10. ——————–Krul———————

  11. I don’t think anyones swayed by anything but I always want my team to win…Don’t worry about Pard’s he’ll be gone soon anyway.

  12. MM
You play donkey tactics you need donkeys.

You can’t take a Porche on a 4×4 track and expect it to perform.

We should have bought Carroll back. He is perfect for Pardew’s tactics. He and Nolan.

Personally… I’m embarrassed by tonight. Nothing to be happy about.

  13. RICHIE i hope so,god willing,dave said you had the body of a god,pity its a buddha like šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

  14. JJ, don’t misunderstand me mate. I’m far from happy. Look back at most of my posts, I’m top of the whinger league tonight mate šŸ˜† šŸ˜†

  15. Richie,
I want long term success. Not a ****ty win over a non league side that may keep this idiot in the hotseat for a prolonged period.

Sorry if that makes me a ****ty supporter. Quite honestly I just feel sad. It hurts me to even see supporters getting so excited because we scrapped a win against Morecambe.

  16. JJ, Pardew’s fist punch at the goal said it all for me. Oh how the mighty have fallen. We have to put up with this utter dross all season.

  17. JJ…He’ll be gone soon enough mate…you ****ty supporter you šŸ˜‰

MM…”Iā€™m top of the whinger league tonight mate”…just tonight??? don’t be modest šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜†

    Ice… šŸ˜† my body is a temple…an old ruin!!(thought I’d join in with the old jokes) šŸ˜‰

  18. Just putting this out their , but would bringing back Joey Barton not be a bad idea ā“ i know he is a ****heed but i think he would bring something we are lacking at the minute , a player that brings a bit of fight ,passion and he does have a bit of skill as well .
