Game On! Newcastle v Fulham

Game On at St James' Park!
Game On at St James’ Park!
Good afternoon all and welcome to our ‘Game On’ match article which will take us through every twist and turn of the Fulham game this afternoon.

It’s another home league game following on from the 0-0 draw against West Ham last weekend so we really should be looking to win this one.

It’s going to be tough though. We’re in a rut at the moment and Fulham are a good side who do well against us generally. In fact here’s a stat for you. Fulham have won more Premier League games against us than they have against any other current Premier League side. Not exactly good reading but it’s up to us to break that stat though and we have the tools to do so. It’s just a matter of realising how to best utilise those tools and get them to click.

The game itself will not be shown live here in the UK as it’s a Saturday, 3pm kick-off however there are lots of overseas TV channels which are broadcasting the game so the chance of watching it online are pretty decent. Same again, if you find a decent stream then please feel free to share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be added in at the bottom of this article, in full, as soon as we can get it published. One note of late team news however is that Time Krul might miss the game after struggling with a groin problem but I guess we’ll soon find out.

And that’s that. Now we need to register our first league win of the season.

Howay the lads!

  1. Lille sign someone for 3.5m and sell for about 12m – good business if you want to sell for profit.

We sign good talent, make it ****, reject high bids and then sell for a pittance. We’ve only ever sold Andy Carroll for a lot.

  2. @Newkie

I dont know how many people i have seen say Santon and Debuchy are not good enough. Sissoko and Anita have both been called flops. Gouffran, Mbiwa to name a few others have all been called ***** or over rated lol

I know they have under performed a lot but they are not bad players and are actually pretty good. Pardew is the problem 😛

  3. Santi

I’ve seen Debuchy and M’Biwa called poor players a lot on here.

Their form hasn’t been great, but I stand by both as top quality players. Especially the latter, who will be attracting top clubs within the next year or so. He is an exceptional defender. Needs time.

      (Quote)

  4. FJ-and Nzog, considering, and considering how **** he is now too.

Also we’ll make a massive profit on Krul at some point… 😆

Santi-No I didn’t mean the “**** player” tag, I meant which players have been coached into one dimensional players?

  5. Quick word on Fulham –

They are bang in trouble this year. Jol needs to find the right balance between flair and graft because at the minute it’s 70% flair and isn’t working. Bent and Berbatov will NEVER help defend from the front, and behind them you have the likes of Taarabt and Ruiz? Jesus!

They need another striker. A striker that chases the ball down at every opportunity.

      (Quote)

  6. Big fan of Mbiwa, I thought he was dodgy from time to time last season but I put it down to language. Debuchy I was never blown away by him before he joined and he is yet to prove value but I will give him time. However, I am surprised by the abuse he gets, because all I ever remember was hatred for Simmo and now people are seemingly realising that on the defensive side he really wasn’t the cause for every single goal we conceded. Not that they will admit it, they’ll just shout about how **** debs is instead 😆

      (Quote)

  7. The Kid-I think Jol went overboard. Last year Fulham fans were saying Jol was too negative-esp away from home, even though they did quite well on average. I think he smelt blood vs us today so decided to see if he could hammer us early on and get the fans against us. Unfortunately he seemed to get attacking players on the pitch but none of them wanted to do anything other than lump it for Bent to chase.

  8. Outside some of the elite players and managers, I think the spread of money in football is exposing just how random and luck based it is. Very few players or managers have a major influence in what happens. Otherwise players would be fantastic at every club, not move and become rubbish. Same with managers.

We’ll never improve unless we get a Mourinho/Ferguson type manager, anyone else we get will be at the whim of luck and chance like Pardew.

      (Quote)

  9. You’re right Kid. Fulham look like they will definitely struggle. Jol has a big problem on his hands. So does Di Canio by the look of it. 😆 😆

  10. Yay we won 😀 , lets hope the winning mentality will continue on till next weekend (and further). Unfortunately I’ll probably miss the match when its on as I’ll have just moved in to my new accommodation.

      (Quote)

  11. I’m just happy we won today tbh. If we can loan or sign a striker by monday I would be over the moon, considering we have the worst dof in football history and a tight *** owner. I’m just happy we got 3pts but I seriously think Cisse needs to be dropped for a few games. He needs to get back to scoring more goals and if not replaced by someone who can.

      (Quote)

  12. Cisse has never scored a hatrick for the club. No more than a single goal last year and that is a concern.

      (Quote)

  13. Cheers Ice 😉
Just looked at the fixtures, turns out we don’t play for two weeks and its against the villains. Should be a good one and I should be able to watch it by then.

      (Quote)

  14. Andy-Yeah I mentioned that, makes you realise that even when we’re **** we’re more entertaining than most 😀

      (Quote)

  15. Stem,
I’ve got no problem with Cisse being dropped, as long as its for someone who can offer more on their current form.
We haven’t been able to drop Cisse because even in the worst form of his life, he is still better than Shola playing near his best.

Remy looks like he could be a massive boost. Such a shame we wouldn’t pay the money to buy him and we’ll probably lose him at the end of the season.

      (Quote)

  16. I think if we get a decent offer for Cisse somewhere down the line we should sell and replace. No doubt he is capable of some incredible goals, he’s just too much of an anomaly for me.
No-one really knows what system we need to play for him. When he came we initially played 4-2-3-1 and he was immense. Then we switched to 4-4-2 and it didn’t work for him, back to 4-2-3-1 which no longer did the trick. It’s just too hard to figure him out. The whole “there weren’t enough chances created for him” is only true to an extent.
Cisse is a more complicated Darren Bent. Neither offer anything amazing to the team other than goals, however with Bent you know it’s a case of ‘create chances for him, he’ll finish them.’
Can we say that about Cisse? When he was on that hot streak how many of his goals were actually “normal goals”? How do we plan our attack around a guy who seems only capable of scoring goals out of thin air?

      (Quote)

  17. JJ I agree if there’s someone in form better. Shola isn’t really the striker I had in mind. He has his moments but not often enough. He deserves a little more credit than he gets. He could of been injury prone like Owen or Court but he does try, even if he is mediocre at best ?

      (Quote)

  18. Solano-exactly. Time and time again I hear people describing Cisse as a poacher, comparing him to Cole. For me he’s nothing of the sort. We have put him 1v1 on a fair few occasions and he’s scored precisely none of them. Penalties? Be ******, he skied it and grinned like it was some sort of joke. No, he can’t hack them. But give him a waist high cross into the box that he shouldn’t go near and it’ll end up in the net. I just don’t know how to get the best of him-because truth be told he thrives on **** delivery and random space 😕 I’d like Gomis just to see what a beastier, more mobile shola will do for him.

But his touch, dribbling and passing are all entirely diabolical and he can’t fashion out a chance for himself one jot. Even Shola can manage that much 😕

I just don’t think Goof is good enough for us and nor is Shola. Try him with Gomis/Remy-if he won’t work with those we’ll be lucky to get our money back 😕

      (Quote)

  19. I thought the change to an attacking formation (4 3 3?) was as much the reason for the better play than Remy per se. I liked Remy though.

      (Quote)

  20. Solano. Re Cisse. I think he is one of the three rather than the striker at the top. I think he needs his man to play off. All we have is Shola, Gomis would be the focal point with Remy, Cisse & HBA as a free moving three. Backed up by Cabaye and Sissoko in midfield I think we are sorted. The rumours re Florian Thauvin. would be good.

      (Quote)

  21. At the moment Shola and Sammy have scored more goals. Shame him and Ba couldn’t get on. I know many fan’s dislike him for leaving but he really was a good goal scorer for us. I really would love him back on a permanent basis but if he gets goals on loan then I would be grateful. I know his joined a better club but being second choice on more money and not playing ? Surely he wants to play

      (Quote)

  22. ‘We could have done a lot of damage today and got the points on the board.

‘If you look at the possession, we could get out of their pressure. It was almost too easy.

‘Last year it was the same, they scored one goal and they are over the moon as if they played great. But they didn’t. We should have had at least a point.’

    lol bitter Jol

      (Quote)

  23. I’m happy with a win. Newcastle could have 6 points if Goufran scored. I would love the club to have a higher goal ratio than conceded imo. Scoring is a big issue and goal difference does matter. It could also make a big difference if we our level on points

      (Quote)

  24. I cant believe there is still fans out there that cant get over the fact that Bubba Ba is away and didnt want to be apart of our team, get over him we were only a stepping stone for him

      (Quote)

  25. In the 20 mins Cisse got to play with some support up front and players with some real movement in Remy, Gouffran and Ben Arfa – Cisse managed to fashion three good efforts on target.
In the previous 70 minutes with Shola, he didn’t look close to scoring.

This is the formation we need to implement to get the best out of him.

    —————————-Cisse——————————————

    ———Gouffran————-Remy———–Ben Arfa————-

    —————-Cabaye/Anita———-Sissoko———————–

    Santon————-Coloccini——–Mbiwa————-Debuchy

    ———————————-Krul—————————————

Its basically, 4-2-3-1, the formation Cisse thrived under when he first got here. But with effective players than can actually create opportunities and draw defenders off Cisse to give him more space.

Its what Pardew played in the final 20 minutes.

      (Quote)

  26. Dave,
I said earlier, that since Ba left, he has become worshipped by fans. I figured that must have got a hell of a lot better in skill and attitude than what I can remember. That’s till I see he has only scored 2 goals in 15 games for Chelsea, despite players like Hazard, Mata, Lampard and co creating chances for him.
Mourinho clearly doesn’t rate him as he is now about fifth in line. But what does he know.

      (Quote)

  27. Jose also said the best team lost but last night. I thought Bayern munich played better myself and won the cup. He also has a rich owner backing him

      (Quote)

  28. Pardew won’t be that adventurous unfortunately.

He’ll start at most four of those front five and play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 probably leaving the front three isolated. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt because he hasn’t had the luxury of playing Remy up until now.

If we had Gomis in place of Shola and one of our central midfielders offered a bit of assistance by getting into the box with the front two on attacking moves we’d be looking much better.

The defense was very solid. But then Fulham may just be very poor.

      (Quote)

  29. Gomis might be taller but I am not sure he is more “beastly” than Shola. Shola is a big fuggin lump. When he is in the mood, not many defenders can handle his physicality.

      (Quote)

  30. Stem,
What Jose says and truly thinks are two different things. He always bigs up his own players. Builds self belief. That’s why he is successful.

Do you really expect him to come out and say. Bayern are the better team. He won’t allow his players to drop their heads. That’s what a good manager does.

That’s got nothing to do with his team selection and judgement of a player.

      (Quote)

  31. Looking at what is left of the window, I think Thauvin is Cabaye’s replacement. Gomis is still ongoing. Remy has a buyout clause.

Did anybody note Sakho to Liverpool £18m ??

      (Quote)

  32. PREM you sure about price 18mil seems a bit over the top imo, from the little ive seen of him hes a canny player, but 18mil not sure

  34. Ice you may be right I thought I saw £18m coz I was thinking he might have been part of a Cabaye deal. However quich Google seems to suggest £13 – £15m

      (Quote)

  35. Is that a done deal for Sakho?

If so what a signing that is. The price isn’t to bad considering how young he still is his price will only increase if the ever intend to sell. Just think Rio went to United for almost double that 😀

Have to say Liverpool are looking really good this year and they still have Suarez to come back into the fold. It will be an interesting game tomorrow for them.

      (Quote)

  36. JJ,

I wasn’t saying Shola is better than Gomis, just that some people seem to think Gomis is like Andy Carroll in his physicality when – I think anyway – Shola is stronger and Gomis just has height and movement on him.

      (Quote)

  37. JJ I dont understand the Ba love in after the way the c@nt got on with us, and as you say even with top players supplying him he still cant put too many away.

Was also wondering how many prople thought that Pards got the subs /tactics right today 😕

      (Quote)

  38. Dave,

Ye, he gets praise because he implements the attacking tactics with 20 minutes to go that he should have used from the start of the game.

Doesn’t take much to sway some supporters.

      (Quote)

  39. Well. Today was Pardews day. The second longest serving manager in the premiership.

Despite my prediction that it would be 0-0 cos I couldn’t see us scoring I was proven wrong.

I was not aware Remy was fit at the time. He came on and changed the game.

Prior to that, it was exactly how I had it panned out.

Wow! Where are the FOOL snipers now? Looks like Pardew is laughing at you lot. 😆

      (Quote)

  40. OK, I’ve watched the game again and I am now CERTAIN that midfield looked better with Anita on instead of Cabaye.

Hopefully we sell him and use the money to fund a move for Ayew. Marseille will defo sell if they get Thauvin.

      (Quote)

  41. Cisse Bollocks again I see. Nothing new. I have been saying this for so long but better you see it late than never at all. It was mitigating circumstance after mitigating circumstance thrown at me as an explanation.

Now it’s not his fault again, it’s just that he needs the ball placed right on the goal line with several yard head start on all opposition players then he will bang them in. So will my granny but it does not make her a great striker.

Can we just agree the man is rubbish and contributes nothing to the team unless he is scoring and he is not even doing that.

A welcome win despite being hopelessly impotent all game we have to rely on a moment of brilliance from HBA which is our strategy a moment of magic from someone.

      (Quote)

  42. Nee chance on getting this article so hoping for a new one tomorrow if possible please 😉

But just to say, we seemed to play with that drive and offensive urgency we have all been crying out for in that 2nd half. If that is the direction Pardew heads in going forwards I’d be a much happier bunny.

I’m hoping Cabaye stays and we loan Ba for £3m and buy Tom Ince. That with Remy already in would be a very decent window IMO.
I’d rather loan a proven Ba for £3m than sign an unproven Gomis for £8-10m – especially as he could be signed for nowt in Jan.

It’s over to JFK to complete the positivity – don’t let us down now fella.

      (Quote)

  43. Also Cabaye poor as usual will be praised as some messiah for the win today. Dreamboat, dreamboat we would be lucky if Arsenal take him off our hands.

      (Quote)

  44. Did not get too see the game but it sounds like we played well and deserved the win , pleased and surprised at that . i thought we would of got stuffed today , well maybe we are not all that bad then .

      (Quote)

  45. At 507 😆 😆 😳

Troy you make more excuses than Pardz… It was well documented that Remy was playing… Nostrastavers at his best.. dearly me, you can cut the embarrassment with a knife 😆

      (Quote)

  46. As it stands…. top of the Nufc Blog fantasy league (replaced Newkie 😛 ) and equal top of Vegas’ league.. not bragging… just saying is all 😎

      (Quote)

  47. FJ – Gomis is NOT taller than Ameobi. He’s 6ft, Shola is 6-3.

He’s like a stronger, slower Cisse. Dodgy touch, not a good passer, known for missing sitters, scores screamers (sometimes). Better with his back to goal. He had a breakout season last year.

IMO, he’d be an expensive mistake.

it’s time we extended our scouting policy to include countries other than France

      (Quote)

  48. @Aussie

    Ha. 😆

You know I’m always right and my predictions are spooky cos they are so accurate. Grandma Baba Vanga is proud of me. She told me so by a spiritual contact. 🙂

The highlight of the game for me was when Remy was warming up pitch side and he looked in the crowd and saw me. He was waving furiously, ” “TROY! TROY! FANCY A PINT IN THE PERCY ARMS AFTER THE GAME?”

Great bloke. I met him in the Percy anyway. What a bloke. Full of apologies for turning us doon last summer and reckons he properly slept in and missed the appointment.

Meeting him later at the Chillingham Arms if anyone fancies a swift dozen. I’ll be the one in the cape, trunks and boots speaking French to a black bloke. 😉

      (Quote)

  49. aye, I’m not too chewed on all this Gomis hype. Is he that good? Remember Maiga had a good record at the time we were sniffing last year, apparently he’s hard to coach at WHam.

Good performance y’day, even before the last 20mins we looked better although a little void of ideas in the final 3rd. Defence was solid enough, Marv and Benny tracked back and got stuck in. We actually looked like we could score from a corner which was refreshing.

all in all it was a screamer that saved our bacon so im not getting carried away as we’ve been here b4 then the next game Jonas back in Tiote in, Anita dropped and we continue to search for an opener.

Hopefully Remy has given us that extra spark we needed all along.

I’m actually hoping Cabaye is off now so we can buy and Anita can continue playing.

      (Quote)

  50. @Troy

actually mate I’m not going to lie but I predicted Remy on after 70 mins and we’d win 1-0 😎 I dont need a crystal ball, just common knowledge.. 😉

      (Quote)

  51. Never saw the game, but ower the moon with the win, however we got it. This game had 0-0 all over it.

Question 1…how good is Remy ? Did he look good, did he look like he could be the answer to our problems up front ,?

Question 2 …. does Jol speak more bollocks than AP ? Would Jol be an improvement on Pardew, cos he was on the lips of lots of fans during the close season….

    that could technically be 3 questions… 😆

      (Quote)

  52. @MM

too early to say on this game as he didnt do too much but the shape of the team changed when he came on. Going off utube 😆 and his QPR games I think he’ll be excellent for us.

Nobody speaks more bollocks than Pards although Kinnear is trying to oust him..

      (Quote)

  53. Eminem…. what Rely did do was spook the defenders and Gouff had the same effect.. the fulham defenders were having pretty comfortable time with lightening bolt Shola & Cisse. Once Remy came on and Gouff went out wide, we really opened them up and created some half decent chances..

      (Quote)

  54. Richietoon@521, dead right mate you’ve got me sussed. 😳 😳

Now answer the six questions you Klugscheißer 😆 😆
