Game On! Newcastle v Leeds

Game on at SJP!
Game on at SJP!
Newcastle take on Leeds at St James’ Park this evening with progression to the next round of the Capital One Cup on the agenda.

On paper Newcastle will be favourites to overturn Championship side Leeds United, but we were favourites on Saturday and have been numerous times against so-called “weaker” opposition in cup matches in recent years and quite often we’ve come out second best.

With Alan Pardew promising a strong side ahead of the game I’m hopeful that we can avoid such a scenario again but this is Newcastle United and you can never be sure if we’re going to turn up or not. Turning up would actually be a start and would give fans something to get behind and in my opinion we’re going to need more than one goal to win it in conventional time although I’m half expecting extra time and penalties to decide it.

The match preview is online and has been all day so if you haven’t already done so then please make your way to the previous article and have a look at a history of the fixture, some stats and facts and injury news for both sides.

Once again we’re not on the TV here in the UK but we are being broadcast overseas so chances of picking up a stream are high. Normal rules apply so if you happen to find a decent stream then please post a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news is featured in full below.

  1. I missed a lot of the first half due to a duff link but thought we looked ok from what I saw. Some nice passing at points throughout the game and I really like Anita and really worry about Debbie still .Happy for Cisse .

  3. Indeed Kim, quality entertainment. That’s what entertainment was like before the internet, how ironic. 😮 😎 😆

…speaking of Big Bob Johnson; Fry’s well missed a trick with a potential ad campaign.

…Bob Johnson, clambering over the dunes, gently falling to caress a semi-concealed mound of sand, that duly dissipates to reveal a voluptous pre-basted turkey. Cut to final scene of satisfied-looking Bob Johnson, sat outside his tent with a massive spit with another 24 turkeys on it. Or something.

  8. Looks like Poyet is going to get the Sunderland Job. really don’t like that guy. What has he done in management so far nothing at all really….

  9. Well it was good to see the toon complete a professional job against a tricky Leeds side who played their part in the match. I thought there were a few positives to take from the match (I’m sure most of you sussed that I try and spot the plus points!).

At last, Cisse grabs a goal. Apart from that he was still awful; poor touches and decision making and is suffering from a confidence crisis at the minute. Cisse’s problem is that he has to score to justify his position in the team, otherwise he is a passenger akin to Darren Bent. I still think Gouffran deserves the nod ahead of him; he further staked his claim with a very well taken goal. It was also nice to see the two local lads put in a decent performance with respect to Dummett and Ameobi. Refreshing to see us play much more passing football; maybe just maybe Pardew is learning. Even Phil Thompson on sky sports noticed us trying to play more triangles.

Final verdict: good to bounce back after the disappointment at the weekend. No injuries to key players picked up and a few first team players rested; ideal passage to the next round really. Big shame about our next tie, we’ll obviously be the underdogs but we’re at home so you never know!

  10. Rodz you can get addblock on other browsers as well you know 😉

How anyone can use the internet without addblock+ is beyond me its full of viruses and advertisements.

  11. On the Man City draw

I am fully expecting us to go out once we get to that game as we have been very very poor against Man City in recent years.

If we managed to get through that game can you imagine the confidence that would give us to go on and win the cup 😀 a guy can dream… and im not talking about the sort of sites Kim goes on 😀

  12. Man city? Damnit. Well, we could still end up like swansea-maybe a defender in place of Ivanovic will set up two goals for us and we can go into the final to play a league two side.

Even then we’d not be favourites 😆
    Ah well there’s always the F.A cup…. 🙄

  13. bloody hell, I slept through the game 😯 😕 good to see the lads have a win
We needed to bounce back after the weekend loss regardless of who the opposition is… Hopefully it will give us a shot in the arm for the game against Everton.

  14. Shame on you, Oz. I was up a good 10 minutes before the game finished, and then spent 10 minutes trying to find an internet stream that worked for me. Managed to see about 30 seconds of the game.

I have no idea how people can watch a game on a computer and think they have seen enough to comment with such authority. Unless UK streams are far and away better than what we have in ‘stralia – which wouldn’t surprise me actually. Give me Foxtel in HD any day.

I’m glad we won as well. It was a **** game from what I saw – far too much stop and start, too many players making quantum leaps from one side of the field to the other. And I’m not keen on the new pixelated football they play with, or the blurred shirts that follow the players around.

  15. Yeah, I can’t do the computer thing either, it does my head in but if there was no other option, I would begrudgingly do it 😎
Maybe you should upgrade from the $10.00 dial up internet package you have been on since the interweb started 😆 Then the players won’t look like the ones from FIFA 95 😆 😆

  16. Manchester City now heading to Tyneside in late October to set up a massive week of league and cup fixtures for the black and whites.

Commencing with a short trip to the stadium of plight on Sunday October 27th, United will then entertain City in midweek before returning to home league action with a Saturday lunchtime kickoff against Chelsea.

Tough fixtures, hopefully we can made through and beat man city like how we beat Chelsea last time round in cup competition.

  17. There’s a dial up option? Jeez, the internet moves along quickly. Next they’ll be telling me that I don’t need to use DOS.

  18. Aussiemag@263, don’t worry about sleeping through the game mate, I’ve also been pretty close to that quite often over the last year 🙂
At the same time, we would still appreciate your opinion on the game, even though you never saw it. Maybe you and Bris can put a few words together for the blog, I’m sure we would all appreciate it. 😆 😆

By the way, enough of the clever ***** from me, for the expat lads, try this link, it does the biz for me every time.
