Game On! West Ham v Newcastle

Game On at Upton Park
Game On at Upton Park
Good afternoon and welcome to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through our game with West ham today.

Our recent results have not been great but neither have those of our opponents today. They do however have the luxury of tasting victory in 2014 which is something still awaiting the Magpies.

Newcastle have all the tools needed to win this game today but once again it depends on which side turns up for us today. Will it be the side which done so well and was perhaps unfortunately beaten by Manchester City last weekend? Or will it be the side lacking in ideas that we saw against West Brom and Cardiff? We’ll soon see I guess…

For more background on the match why not check out the match preview? It features news of injury and suspension for both sides, a history of the fixture and some stats and facts to tickle your footballing taste buds. Official team news will be posted at the bottom of this article after 2pm.

Being a regulation 3pm kick-off means that there is no live TV coverage here in the UK although there are some overseas channels showing the game so hopefully a stream can be found for you all somewhere. If you do find one then please share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

And that is just about it. Sorry it’s a short one. I had to write it quickly before I set off for work this morning. Then again the bulk of the story is waiting to be written. The question is, will this particular story have a happy ending?

Howay the lads!

  1. Toby, Aye, when he’s in the mood he’s class. Lets hope this Remy Cabella is good should he arrive.

  2. Good performances from the players. Pardew gets credit for tge win. It was an even game in the first half until we got our second after which we were cruising.

Second half (especially when anita went off) we were on the backfoot. A draw would not have been unfair but fortunately we won…

  3. Gutted – took Cabaye and Remy out me dream team for this week 😥

Awesome result and very good away performance IMO.

Rot stopped and back to winning ways – well done boys 😉

  4. Cabaye is replaceable. I would be happy for someone to pay £20m for him. He did play well though.

Irreplaceable is someone like Shearer who we still haven’t replaced.

  5. Great performance and the lads dug in against the expected arial bombardment. My god fat sham is a ***** manager imagine watching that every week….oh we did 😆

Cabaye is a real class act and was MOM for me. hope we can hang onto him until at least the summer but there will be plenty of offers if he keeps playing like this.

36 points and twice as many as the scum luvverly jubbly

  6. I would say today’s win is in spite of pardew. He did his usual trick of sitting back and inviting pressure, and we are blessed to get out of there with 3 points. They were worse than useless, and we should have tore them a new arsehole. Instead we had to really on 2 missed open goals by them to get the win. If that doesnt prove his dinosaur tactics and bland predictability nothing will. We should have won today at a canter

  7. Easy win!!! once Carroll came on the game resorted to hoof to him clear away, hoof to him clear away and repeat.

Take into account what we will pay in transfer fees and salaries Graham Carr will need to pull out a miracle to replace Cabaye.
Talk of paying 14 million for Cabrella is hilarious. In fact any player over 6 million. Salaries go hand in hand with valuations and these players will be wanting 80 grand a week which Jabba won’t pay. That is why I say Cabaye is irreplaceable. I am not saying there aren’t better players than him out there.

  9. Buddy his usual trick of sitting back and inviting pressure was the reason for our first goal with a text book counter attack. In fact we could of been a few goals to the good in there players wernt blocking everything. All down to the counter attack that Pardew has set us up in.

Some of the football in the first half was pure class.

The only thing he done today that annoyed me was Anita coming off. We still won the game 3-1 though so i cant really complain.

  10. Something caught my eyes while looking through the fixture list.

We have the same fixture set as the first half with regards to consecutive Chelsea then spurs match… 😯 😯

    😐

I don’t think we’ll pay £10m for cabella. I also have a lot of faith in carr as he has done the best transfer business on a budget in the entire league.

Cabaye played well but so did most of our players so i don’t think he was on another level to anyone else.

  12. @buddy & santii

Good posts, i kind of agree with both. Pardew did well first half (except defensively).

Pardew & Allardyce showed why English managers are dinosaurs. Take a midfielder off, bring on a big lump of a guy up front & hoof it as hard as you can.

Ameobi needs to go if Anita is to get a fair run in the side. It’s a shame but sometimes Pardew needs to be forced into changes.

  13. Charlie Nicholas saying on this performance today Remy is worth a minimum of 16 million

      (Quote)

  14. Santii,

Yes our counter attack first half was very good, and we were taking them apart. But as AP always does, he reverted to type and went ultra defensive second half, allowed them to bombard us and then played into their hands by bringing on Shola. It was nearly a game of rugby at stages in the second half. We are blessed to come away with three points from this

  15. I think people who say we win sometimes in spite of the manager are mad. I must be mad. I get the impression Pardew does his best to make us lose. Why Anita gets dragged off every time beats me, yet you know he is always being subbed. Surely today was also a day to try Cisse again. I believe he would have stuck away some of the chances Remy has missed recently. Not that I would take Remy off for Cisse. I would take off Sissoko who flatters to deceive. Plays with hid head down and runs into blind alleys. Nevertheless I am pleased with the win and three points but we should not be repeatedly hanging on when we go ahead. On the contrary, going in front should allow us to play more liberated football. So as well as we are doing I think we have the players to do even better or at least to win more convincingly.

  16. Need to double check the score to make sure we actually won the game. The way some of the yaps on here get on you would think we had just been trounced.

The routine of yapping about everything seems to have carried over from last season. People expect wonders every week they are not happy with a convincing 3-1 away win there has to be someone to blame that we didn’t win by more.

It laughable really i think people need to get a grip.

      (Quote)

  17. No Santii its not yapping. Its the same tactics that has cost us countless times this year and last. Yes we won this time against a wretched west ham side, but there is no way pardew should have been shitting it to the extent we went that defensive as they were pure muck. It has cost us plenty of points before and will cost us plenty of points again. The fact that everybody knows exactly what hes going to do second half wont go amiss by opposition managers.

  18. I can imagine APs HT team talks…as he looks up from scribbling on his notepad and bellows “RETREAT, RETREAT, RETREAT”

  19. Thought Willo, og aside which he couldn’t do much about did really well again. Disappointed to see Anita subbed yet again as he was having a good game but seems Pards put Shola on to try and win the first header after big Andy came on.

  20. Buddy ,Quite right you can time his subs and who they will be almost to the second. Still, got the win and so we should cause Wet Spam are utter ****.

  21. @santii

It was not a convincing win. When we went 0-2 up we were convincing but before then & after they scored, they were the better side.

1-3 is a misleading scoreline. West Ham fans would feel like they should have got at least a point if not a win.

I think a point would have been fair but i’m happy we got the win because up until the 90th minute it looked like West Ham would equalise.

    @Kimtoon
Pardew sent Shola on before Allardyce sent Carroll on but it was a silly change from both managers. Games are won in midfield, it’s no suprise that despite 2 strikers coming on for 2 midfielders, no more goals were scored.

I also thought Williamson very well. He looked like a real leader.

      (Quote)

  22. Still can’t believe people are saying it would have been a good game to play Cisse. To do what actually.

      (Quote)

  23. I guess I’m going to disagree with some on here when I say that the result was more than fear. Sure they controlled much of the second half but we still had our chances; and that’s on top of a dominant first half where we realistically could have had 4 goals

      (Quote)

  24. owlheed wants the Southampton job 😯 hope he gets it will be the end of any big money signings, jabba won’t be happy after he knocked the rangers job back 😆

  25. Jez some of the comments would make you think we just scraped a draw at best.
But im over the moon that we put one over BSA’ Nolan and Carroll, the only downside was that Tugboat wasnt on the pitch

  26. BIG DAVE
Aye, we’ve struggled against Big Sam as well. It was poor defending and they should have got back in the second half according to BSA. 😉 Nowt to do with us thumping them like and a lucky goal from a failed clearance in last minute of 1st half. 2-0 and we would have been comfortable IMO.

  27. Big Dave
I took some relief in the fact that we had a big strong defence. As I knew balls would be continually pumped into the box and I don’t think Coloccini would have hacked it. Taylor and Williamson handled it well though I think. Santon showed that there are better defensive LB’s out there though when Dummett came on and patched up the left side. 😕

  28. We played better against Man City than we did against West Ham in the second half today.

Right up until Cabaye’s goal in stoppage time West Ham looked like they would get an equaliser.

We should not have struggled as much as we did especially when you consider how dominant we were when we had the 2 goal lead.

Ideally we should have got a 3rd & kill the game off but West Ham got a scrappy goal so no big deal.

The big deal is that we went defensive despite being capable of completly outclassing them. Pardew is no better than Allardyce & he did exactly what Sam Allardyce would have done in the same situation.

Sacrifice a good midfielder for a big lumpy centre forward so that we can just hoof it about.

3 goals from open play in the first half. Two English managers then decide to play football from the 80’s & 90’s. Surprise, surprise, no more goals from open play for the rest of the game.

It’s odd, surely if you sacrice a midfielder & bypass the midfield by playing a big striker you should just magically score, no?

I don’t know why all these foreigners like to pass it around & play it through midfield. They should just kick it forwards to Ameobi or Carroll, it’s less running & that’s how you make the ball do the work for you.

Foreign coaches & managers, pffft what have they ever won in football?
