Cabaye out but De Jong signs on

Luuk de Jong signs on
Luuk de Jong signs on
So it’s been confirmed now that Yohan Cabaye has signed for Paris Saint-Germain for a fee believed to be in the region of £20 million.

Losing such an influential player is a blow although it has been softened by the arrival of Luuk De Jong who joins the club on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The likelihood is that the former FC Twente and Borussia Mönchengladbach forward will be thrown in at the deep end and will make his debut in the Tyne-Wear derby this weekend, especially now Loic Remy is suspended as a result of his red card against Norwich on Tuesday evening.

I’m pleased we’ve beefed up our attack but then again the success of this deal depends on the detail and whether we get the chance to use the option to sign De Jong at the end of the season. If all goes well, will another club become interested and try to scupper any deal? That’s just an example…

Things never worked out for De Jong in Germany as he found his chances restricted. However his goalscoring record in Holland was impressive and if he can recapture that kind of form – the kind which has had us chasing him for some time – then he could be a good signing for us.

The problem with strikers who scored lots in the Eredivisie is that for every Ruud van Nistelrooy who was an astonishing success in England, there is an Afonso Alves who never managed to hit the same goalscoring heights on these shores. Time will tell I guess.

Moving on to Cabaye, I’m sad to see him go but I don’t really see how anyone can either be surprised that he has moved on or argue against his move to PSG. They are a rich club so he’ll be paid handsomely, will be playing in the capital city of his country just a couple of hours drive away from where he grew up and will be fighting for titles and medals whilst playing in the Champions League under the guidance of a French former playing legend. Not bad really is it?

It’s been revealed that there was some form of agreement about letting Cabaye go this winter following a failed move to Arsenal in the summer window. The fact he supposedly went on strike shows he had his eyes on bigger things and has done for some time. Anyone who listened to Joe Kinnear and his “nobody will leave” claptrap deserves to be disappointed in fairness and probably won’t go very far in life.

Besides we have little Vurnon who always got looked over in favour of Cabaye despite doing nothing wrong. Perhaps he may get a chance now? Maybe with him and De Jong we are now moving away from France and looking at Holland for transfers?

Ah well, C’est la vie. Or should that be het leven gaat door?

  1. Lovely thought that BLIP @149. Tatty leisure ware with I am **** written on it would be suitable for Mike and Joe.

  2. The players a blatant cheat, He got Barton sent off for the same thing. THe FA would help their refs out if they didnt support players who have conned them.

PS What about west ham with the man who “would never have taken newcastle down” in charge, Id love to see the fat charlatans reputation in the bog

  3. I have to say that is an absolute fucking disgrace that Jonhson’s got overturned and ours didn’t.

What a joke lets reward cheating fucking scumbags.

  4. so one day left… 6 months knowing Cabs was gone and we had 30 days to buy a replacement.

If we only sign loanee De Jong (a hopeful replacement for Remy) our club is a f**ing joke.

Take the money and happily bullshit to the fans regarding nobody leaving, plans in place etc.

Ne wonder players want to be away from here..

  5. You were right and I was wrong Dekka. I’ll say it now. You were clever compared with Mr. Puss Face aka JFK. You were shrewd. You made permanent signings! This is your chance. Come back in and save us. There’s still time. 🙂

  6. CC-Their lads ban was lifted? That’s fucking pathetic. Not happy at all. Hopefully this will be used to give us a siege mentality for the scum/coming games but it’ll be nowt compared to missing Remy. **** sake.

      (Quote)

  7. Honestly not even kidding i want to see our lads diving as often as they can get away with it. Surrounding the ref at every opportunity and fighting every decision made by the officials.

    **** fair play

  8. @ Ice. hopefully he keeps his word like Cabaye who said he wasnt going and JFK said nobody was going 😀

  9. MARK the whole set up is a joke club knew for months cabaye was going and set up nowt pack of clowns.put the lot in a group you wouldn’t get a half-wit

  10. These things happen, it didn’t make any different to the result at least. We should have really been 2 or 3-0 by then anyway if the finishing had been better.

  11. @Ice.

    total joke m8. I can’t believe I still have some hope before 11 2moro.

Sucked in again by the bull.

Pardew will be in the mirror now rehearsing his lines. “unfortunately, it wasnt to be, everything possible was done to make it succeed. but we can’t compete with the Real Madrids of this world.” 😕

  12. Well what a fucking joke the FA are ,did they not even look at tape of the incident 😕 , Johnson made a meal of it, there was no contact ,a simple coming together and he bloody instigated the whole thing to start with. This is the same guy who was in the top 5 players to receive the most yellow cards last season see my link @109 ,it’s there in black and white. So now you get rewarded for feigning injury, cheating ******* . We should never expect anything from the FA, ever since the club spoke out about their antiquated systems it has sealed our fate imo, they don’t like to be questioned .

      (Quote)

  13. I’ve said all along that any permanent signings which the toon make will be done in the summer, once the World Cup is out of the way. No one will come in this window. We are safe and guaranteed next season’s cash windfall, that’s all Ashley is worried about

The close season 2014 is going to be one of the most difficult that Pardew and the legendary Joe Kinnear have endured. Shola, Cisse and Remy all toast in one fell swoop… three strikers gone, though one of them wasn’t ours to begin with 🙄

      (Quote)

  14. @MM

De Jong might be off too by then 🙂

    Re-call Ranger! 😀

What message does this send out to Krul, Debs, Tiote etc. It stinks of 10th spot each season..

Hope I’m wrong like but its too close to the window slammer for my liking..

      (Quote)

  15. Well, rumour was they wanted £11m for Grenier so if we have upped the bid to £12M that was bollocks. I would think that’s a decent enough offer for an unproven player in our league, it’s not exactly small change is it. iT IS £’s and not Euro’s I take it. 😕 .

Pissed off beyond belief with the FA and pissed off that we have left it this late to replace Cabs if a deal to leave was in place, just proves we have to sell to buy 🙄 And all this with a billionaire owner 👿 .

      (Quote)

  16. talk fo a deal for Filip Duricic? apparently a winger. so theres Jonas replacement…

why we didnt try for Ince.. 🙄

      (Quote)

  17. we will always be a sell b4 buy club under Ashley..

anyway, i’m off before we go and sign 6 players 😳 😆

      (Quote)

  18. MM, if they leave it to Summer then it just proves that Mike has still learned nowt about running a football club. Any player we fancy who even remotely has a half decent world cup will command a helluva lot more coin than he would now. Even if they are freebees out of contract they will want a much bigger signing on fee, that’s if pre-contracts haven’t been put in place with other clubs by then. 🙄

      (Quote)

  19. Well, the FA made that decision quickly. They held back John Terry and Rio’s so they wouldn’t be banned for big games. That does not even touch on the Norwich guy being let off.

FA is bent and corrupt and complicit in match fixing.

      (Quote)

  20. Also, if we want a new centre back, Virgil Van Dijk from Celtic is immense. Owned the SPL this year and well rated along with Forster in Champions League against top teams.

Colo but younger and ridiculously offense mided for a centre back. Scored a goal dribbling from his own half a few months ago.

  21. This grenier transfer attempt has been embarrassing, another to add to the list. Crazy to say but we’ve been a shambles since llambias left, can’t even believe I’m saying that. At least with him we were slightly professional and it felt like there was half a plan, now we’re all over the shop. Mental

      (Quote)

  22. its a tad embarrassing if we’ve only shown an interest since Cabaye left. Why weren’t plans in place before Cabaye left. We did know he might go.

      (Quote)

  23. well that Grenier deal is defo over his agent has said a couple of things he said are toon are saying he’s only worth half of what cabaye was worth, but the main thing that rings true in the interview to me is the offer to Grenier was not good enough,we must have been trying to do things on the cheap AGAIN with wages 👿

Proof if ever we needed it that success in Ashley book is staying in the PL…

What’s the point of supporting NUFC anymore? There’s no ambition, no hope and no point!

Very strange this, every player replaces another, me thinks it’s code for, I want to go to a club with ambition so I will wait for Liverpool ,Arsenal in the summer 😆 Question is do we have a plan B 😕

  40. Lyon have a point – Pardew has agreed with the media who question Grenier as being Cabaye’s replacement so it is taken as a club stance.

It’s a sign of disrespect and I can’t blame him for snubbing.

      (Quote)

  41. FJ I can see your point but in another sense I worry that it shows the player is not ambitious enough or doesn’t believe he can fill that role.

Really though I think it’s a smokescreen for the fact he doesn’t fancy being part of a feeder club 😉

All good points of argument at the end of the day. I reckon if it hadn’t have been World Cup year the bloke would have joined us…

The agent seems to be doing a canny job for him though…he’ll be worth a lot more next season if he makes the WC squad and performs well in the Champions League, whereas if he signed for the toon he’d need to sign the “don’t try too hard in the cups” clause.. 😳 😳 .

  45. I am still of the opinion that signing someone from a foreign league to “replace” Cabaye is a bad idea.

We either sign someone who currently plays in this division and gets it and we KNOW is better than Anita or we just let Anita get on with it and focus on signing a striker that actually belongs to us for a change…… or try and get Virgil Van Dijk to replace Colo because that’s another transfer farce that has been overlooked this month.

      (Quote)

  46. Or it could be his agent has blocked the move in the hope he hikes the price up thus he earns more money for himself .Agents dont think about their clients ,only about how much they can earn from them .

      (Quote)

  47. MUNICH MAG Finnbogasson is the real deal he is better than both of them but also a different type of striker De Jong is a target man and i honestly think he will fit in at the Toon . Boney is more explosive and Finnbogasson can in many ways be likend to Andy Cole the lad is a goal machine and would be worth a 8 too 10 million investment .I know its the eredivisie that he plays in but he is a cut above any other striker in Holland and his trainer Marco Van Basten has tipped him for the very top .

      (Quote)

  48. So I take it we havent signed anyone to replace Cabs yet 😀
Ice long runs the Fox regarding Workys it was only a matter of time, im just surprised he run it in to the ground before closing.
Maybe he’ll learn that you cant accuse people of being racist or bullies without having any proof to back it up 😉

      (Quote)

  49. My concern here is that:

Adam Campbell is loaned out. Loic Remy is banned. Pardew almost outright said De Jong is not match fit and won’t start. Gouffran is seemingly injured. Papiss Cisse is only just back from injury apparently. This leaves Shola Ameobi and Adam Armstrong as our strikeforce.

While Shola rarely lets us down in derby games, our set up is not good enough for a derby game.

      (Quote)

  50. When I said sign a midfielder who is in this league – I also said better than Anita. Mark Noble is not this man, lol

      (Quote)

  51. I don’t see how it’s an insult to be considered Cabs replacement, it’s nonsense because every player a club signs replaces someone or am I missing something 😕 What I want to know is what’s plan B going to be ,reading between the lines I don’t think we offered him enough wages .

      (Quote)

  52. yee can see whats gan to happen here like.pards will be rolled oot on satda before the derby saying we tried to get players but just couldnt get them owa the line.same bs 🙄

      (Quote)

  53. Worky has packed it in then? I did like place yonks ago and used to read it and Ed’s a while before i started commenting on either. I gave up on eds virtually straight off but there was some good crack on org. Then people just started having a go for the stupidest things, like you post a formation you’d like to see and ten people come out with “Pardew will never play” etc etc. The whole hughton love in/anti pardew stuff right from the kick off was really sour. Been downhill ever since it seems.
