Cabaye out but De Jong signs on

Luuk de Jong signs on
Luuk de Jong signs on
So it’s been confirmed now that Yohan Cabaye has signed for Paris Saint-Germain for a fee believed to be in the region of £20 million.

Losing such an influential player is a blow although it has been softened by the arrival of Luuk De Jong who joins the club on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The likelihood is that the former FC Twente and Borussia Mönchengladbach forward will be thrown in at the deep end and will make his debut in the Tyne-Wear derby this weekend, especially now Loic Remy is suspended as a result of his red card against Norwich on Tuesday evening.

I’m pleased we’ve beefed up our attack but then again the success of this deal depends on the detail and whether we get the chance to use the option to sign De Jong at the end of the season. If all goes well, will another club become interested and try to scupper any deal? That’s just an example…

Things never worked out for De Jong in Germany as he found his chances restricted. However his goalscoring record in Holland was impressive and if he can recapture that kind of form – the kind which has had us chasing him for some time – then he could be a good signing for us.

The problem with strikers who scored lots in the Eredivisie is that for every Ruud van Nistelrooy who was an astonishing success in England, there is an Afonso Alves who never managed to hit the same goalscoring heights on these shores. Time will tell I guess.

Moving on to Cabaye, I’m sad to see him go but I don’t really see how anyone can either be surprised that he has moved on or argue against his move to PSG. They are a rich club so he’ll be paid handsomely, will be playing in the capital city of his country just a couple of hours drive away from where he grew up and will be fighting for titles and medals whilst playing in the Champions League under the guidance of a French former playing legend. Not bad really is it?

It’s been revealed that there was some form of agreement about letting Cabaye go this winter following a failed move to Arsenal in the summer window. The fact he supposedly went on strike shows he had his eyes on bigger things and has done for some time. Anyone who listened to Joe Kinnear and his “nobody will leave” claptrap deserves to be disappointed in fairness and probably won’t go very far in life.

Besides we have little Vurnon who always got looked over in favour of Cabaye despite doing nothing wrong. Perhaps he may get a chance now? Maybe with him and De Jong we are now moving away from France and looking at Holland for transfers?

Ah well, C’est la vie. Or should that be het leven gaat door?

Anyone actually know what went wrong with Grenier deal & why we’ve waited so late in the window to do it? #NUFC @CaulkinTheTimes @MsiDouglas

@WrekaNouCamp @MsiDouglas Pardew has said this week they had to wait until Cabaye done before they could bid. If true, that’s ridiculous.

  5. Kim them tweets only confirm what some allready knew and said, but it works out better for the regime as they can use the old fav that the Cab deal came to late to give us a chance to replace him, even though they have known from the summer that he was going

      (Quote)

  6. They’ll be saying that the right deal just wasn’t available, which, financially, it probably isn’t because selling clubs know we have the Cabaye cash. They’ll also be thinking that we have enough to get through this season, and can take a closer look at players like Sammy and the kid strikers. I imagine that the next 15 games will show that we lost a lot of attacking imagination with Cabaye, which Benny, for example, won’t come near to filling. So, would be pretty sure we’ll be in for an AM or two in the summer, with a clear out of the Obertan, Marveaux, even Benny variety.

  7. I will honestly be gutted if Holtby goes to Fulham. Surely if we are looking for a No.10 his name should be on the list. I’d even be happy(ish) with a JFK loan to buy deal…. 🙄

      (Quote)

  8. I think the summer will see a mass clear out

    Cisse
    Ameobi
    Remy
    Jonas
    Coloccini
    Obertan
    Marveaux

How many will be replaced though?

“Having Ryan Taylor back is like a new signing, he is raring to go and can cover many positions. We also feel that it’s the right time for some of our younger players to take their chance. Sammy has looked very sharp in training…”

    I can hear it now!!

  9. Wow, I see there is a lot of people on here that would buy a new house before they sold their old house! Financial guru’s abound on this site!
why wouldnt wait until you knew what coin you had before negotiating a deal!

      (Quote)

  10. Oblong, agree about the clear out. A squad needs 18-20 outfield players, proper first teamers. Our main problem in competing any higher than 8th or targeting a cup is that too many of ours are unreliable.

    Keeping:

    Willo
    STaylor
    Mbiwa
    Santon
    Debuchy
    Haidara
    Tiote
    Anita
    Bigi
    Gouff
    Sissoko
    De Jong (hopefully)
    Shola

      (Quote)

  11. We aint getting a replacement in but whats the point anyway?

We are 8th … we cant get champs league we dont want europa (according to some fans) and we cant compete with spuds, liverpool and manu on financial front.

But if no replacement is bought all of NUFC will cry, we will lose the derby and all hell will break loose.

    Catch 22 or just facetious

      (Quote)

  12. Teach me to Type too fast

That’s only 14 ‘reliable’ outfield players (and I’ve stretched to Sholapur and Benny).

Add, maybe, 2 out of dummett, campbell, ferguson, Armstrong, RTaylor and we need the clear out to bring in at least 2 or 3 new players. IF we get to keep Remy that’s one of them at least. AM is the lightest area, largely because our signings / development players here have been disappointing (Marveaux, Oba, Vuckic, Gosling).

All points to a busy summer, but with 6-7 out, 2-3 in.

      (Quote)

  13. Aussie, how dare you use a real life analogy 😆

We’ve had to sell to buy ever since that “no capital outlay” or whatever the hell that phrase was released back when we were in the championship(think it was then?)

      (Quote)

  14. Okay, I’ve come to the decision that I don’t want us to sign anyone this window.
I echo those that would rather have a good summer transfer window.
We will never get a better opportunity to truly test and develop the fringe players we currently have.
Not arsed if we finish above Southampton.
Would sacrifice it if it meant we finally managed to get the best of HBA, get M’biwa settled 100% etc.
If Coloccini is leaving in the summer than I would resign him to the bench (though I think he is our best player).
Play Cisse/Marv/HBA as much as possible so we can reach conclusions on whether to sell them.
It’s quite a rare opportunity that we have – I hope Pardew makes the most of it.

      (Quote)

  15. I guess on the flip side – any signings we get now will have a nice easing in period to the Premiership.
    Coloccini – best central defender*

      (Quote)

  16. Aussie, I would have to sell to buy a house but then I haven’t had £60m tv cash come my way 😉

      (Quote)

  17. Solano@22-in a way that’s my line of thinking. Fully utilise what’s left of the squad and then we know who to cut loose in the summer and who may still have a chance with us, and in what positions.

Then again last Jan I said we shouldn’t buy a striker because I thought Cisse was scared of competition/goal scoring partners but he only scored a handful more goals and never really hit form anyway.

@323 is a gamble either way. Ideally we would get anyone early summer so that we can play them in friendlies, get them used to the squad, tactics, training etc etc. I would be alright with that. But it won’t happen will it? We seem to already kick off the season before going for signings 😕

      (Quote)

  18. Kim your wasting your time on Aussie he always backs his spiritual leader Jabba.
IMO business doesnt work that way you have to plan for things happening, the club told Cabs they would let him go now as they knew he wasnt for staying so they should have had his replacement lined up and ready because even if he hadnt left this window he would have been away in the summer, so either way we would have needed a replacement.
But then I could be wrong and maybe buying and selling players is the same as getting a mortgage for a house 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  19. Solano – agree, and Pardew’s comments in the Northern Echo seem to back that up – use the next 15 games to test players out, then ship many out, plus rebuild in the summer. My point earlier is just that that rebuild probably only needs 3 players, as long as they are the right players, and we are better to wait until summer to get them if not available now.

Many will say we won’t get them in the summer either, but I don’ share that view.

  21. Richietoon, What are you talking about?
I’ve been on Worky’s blog from day one and i have never been part of any conspiracy, Or sent any threatening e-mails to anyone.
So don’t try to tar everyone on a blog with the same brush ffs.

I have always got on with most of the people who get on here, And i have nothing against Simon who started this blog.
I have always got along with him when i went under the moniker of TROJAN 69.
I stayed on worky’s blog out of loyalty because i have been there since it started.
I tried to get on both blogs at first, But it was too much, And this site was knacking my computer up, When it first started.

There’s a lot of the old names i still recognize like Icedog, Big Dave, Kimtoon and a few others, Who all used to get on Worky’s blog.
Once Worky’s Blog stops i doubt whether i will bother joining any other one’s.

It’s poor form though to have a go at people when they are not here to have the right to reply.
I have always got on with Worky and it will be a shame when the Blog comes to an end.
As for henchmen and all that, You are way off base with that one.
I must have been out of the loop, And not in the know.
I cannot see people like Chuck, Andymac, Sirjasontoon and others being part of some bullying Cabal.

Howay man, Things at this club are bad enough as it is without the fan base all turning on each other!

  22. I think next summer window could be the same as last summers, but I guess some think it will be different. As it is we havent bought a player this year , I wonder what other Prem teams can say the same

      (Quote)

  23. Joe… I know exactly what I’m talking about, I said “henchman” not henchmen so the emails I’m talking about came from Worky and one other, where did I mention you or anyone else?
I haven’t tarred anyone with the same brush, I did in fact say that everyone should be welcome but that I doubt some would come here because of what had gone on in that past, I stand by that because I believe it to be true.
Did you actually read my post properly?

      (Quote)

  24. Dave, No permanents in , in two windows is very poor imo.

See the Scum have made 5 signings so far, that won’t help Pards tomorrow trying to figure out who Gus will play and how. 🙄

      (Quote)

  25. This whole “wait until the summer” logic does not work as it is a World Cup year so anyone we like is increased in value and anyone we like who isn’t at the World Cup still increases in value due to everyone moving.

We have excuses set for the next 2-3 transfer windows.

      (Quote)

  26. FJ ,exactly , Jabba seemingly continues to learn nowt when it comes to running a club on the football side. Then again he is probably aware of all that but it doesn’t matter cause he isn’t gonna buy anyway 😉

      (Quote)

  27. Kim-mind boggling that the scum have basically had a whole new team bought for them, bankrolled by short and they still claim he’s a bad owner. I’m constantly praying that venky’s fancy a change of scenary some time soon and deliver some divine retribution…

      (Quote)

  28. Kim let them sign 5 more, the fucking idiots never learn.

How many teams have they had to build in the last 5 years because of all the manager changes. They have made one or two decent signings out of a horde of complete garbage. Poyet will eventually start to falter and the process will begin again.

      (Quote)

  29. Had a text saying Benny to Milan, anyone heard owt over there? sounds like twitter bollox to me, mackems starting rumours maybe 👿

      (Quote)

  30. Kim being a good owner isn’t about how much money you pay and it is hardly been bankrolled by him I am pretty sure they have made profit in the last few years.

He is a **** owner cause he has no vision for the club and keeps chopping and changing the manager and there half the players every 6 months.

Funnily enough almost the solar opposite of Mike Ashley (in some regards) I know who I would rather have in charge.

      (Quote)

  31. Sigh of relief as I found a link for the “Benny thing” on The Mirror website so guaranteed to be bollox 🙄

      (Quote)

  32. I think there was a plan in place to replace kebab.
Cabella was plan A and Grenier was plan B
Unfortunately the plan in both cases was to make a ridiculously low bid/wage offer like we did with Cabs so as to maximise the sell on profit in a couple years.
The goons running the show think they have a master plan blueprint on how to make money.
Bunch of fucking useless kunts the whole lot of them.
Its not about football, its all about making money.
The big fat pecker has met his match tho with both Montpellier and Lyon.
Whose laughing now you fat ******.
Pardew hung out to dry as per normal. If he only had a spine eh?
    Shitters 👿

  33. Sirjasontoon 😆 not heard that name in a while… he was off his tits that lad!

Almost as mad as the wrongun on here who reckons Marveaux is/was better than Cabaye. 😆

      (Quote)

  34. Richietoon, I read your post and you did say people would be welcome here, But it did come across as being a general consensus of everyone on the blog.
I don’t know what occurred between Worky and Simon or anyone else, And i don’t want to know.
I always got along with Worky and Simon so i wouldn’t take any side anyway.

      (Quote)

  35. Santii-it certainly bloody helps mate and there is no way in hell they have been making profits. Their net transfer expenditure since he’s been in is nigh on £100million ffs! I’m not sure about the last 2 years but they made big losses up til then.

Their problem is that he hires ****/average managers and listens to the fans who want them sacked every six months. Mike Ashley arguably did the same with us, up until he couldn’t be bothered to pay anyone off, so I don’t see how he superior in any way shape or form. What is his plan exactly?

And if Sunderland won the cup, what would you say then? 😕

      (Quote)

  36. TC… Aye JasonToon was a bit bonkas 😆 canny though, he stayed out of all the **** that went on if I remember right.

  37. Marveaux should be in the 1st team squad.
wtf is going on with him.
Once again our coaches/management have failed to bring on a player with much potential.
    clueless bunch of kernts

      (Quote)

  38. I don’t get the Marveaux love – talent, yes…effort, guts or game-reading ability, not that I’ve seen. Is it always our coaches’ fault if a player is a sulky fecker who doesn’t train seriously?

      (Quote)

  39. Joe Hawkins aka Trojan hows it going lad 😉 I know some never seen the bad side of Worky but he could be a nasty ***** and was a complete Liar so once I was banned wrongfully I seen him for what he was. But there was a lot of goodlads that went on tje blog but a lot of them stopped going on after they seen the way he used and abused people that were trying to help him. As I said before .org could have been the best blog goingbut worky couldnt help himself treating people like **** even after they donated hard earned cash and a lot of time to help the blog

      (Quote)

  40. Gallowgate-that’s my feeling on the matter, and I was happy as larry when Marv signed because I’d seen him for Rennes. He has not played the same for us as he did for them. He was never a work horse for them and I feel his injuries have meant that he is afraid of pushing his body too hard. Class player but he makes Benny look like Speedo. That’s my opinion of him anyway.

      (Quote)

  41. Joe… Like I said there was 2 people who sent emails(that I know and have read) so they are the 2 I meant. The ones I said who wouldn’t come to this blog were ones who posted abusive comments both on here and Worky’s blog, they were the “water under the bridge” comment. Like I said I reckon all(well most) would be welcome an other than Worky(because of the way my donation was spent) I don’t have any problems with anyone else over there. We’re all Toon fans even if we disagree and bicker all the time 😉
Once again, I wasn’t “tarring anyone with the same brush” and don’t think I wrote it that way either, all in the interpretation I guess.
Anyway I guess it’s all in the past and should be left there…and back to footy.

finally, something he says is accurate! 😛
I just love the closet millionaires that specialize in spending other people money.. no wonder there was a global finacial crisis.. too many people spending money they don’t actually have.. but hey, Big Dave could be wrong 😆

  44. Fucking hell, I came on expecting everyone to be slagging JFK off – instead it’s folk from another blog 😯 😆
Although reading the comments, nobody has a problem with anybody 🙄 So kiss n make up and lets get on with slagging JFK off 😉

      (Quote)

  45. I see Holtby is with Fulham 👿
Spurs have also said they listen to offers for Sigurdsson and Capuoe

3 players that could get into our side or at least the 1st team squad!.

I haven’t put SSN on yet and I’m desperately trying to avoid it coz i know I’ll just **** myself right off

  48. It’s sad isn’t it? In years gone by I’d have been all over transfer deadline day. Now I just don’t give a toss about it 😆

  49. wow they have spent a lot it hasn’t been as bad lately then I will say 😀

“he couldn’t be bothered to pay anyone off” So why was CH sacked? did he think he was taking us down? or did he think Pardew could take us to the next level? all open for debate of course 😀

So what if they win a cup. It will give them an illusion on grandeur (a bit like we still have)

What position would you rather be in theirs or ours?

We have progressed a good bit since promotion (We differ on how far) and sure we could do it faster but they have stalled or even regressed since their top 10 under Brucie.

Our transfer policy has been far superior to theirs as well. We have kept most of our good players as well where as they sell any decent player they get hold of.

      (Quote)

  50. Santii-Ashley paid of Hughton alone, who on a gash contract would have cost him nowt. Bearing in mind he allowed hughtons no.2 to **** off and made hughton carry the load for another two months without that support, full well knowing he would pull the trigger but he didn’t have the balls to do it until some defeats gave him the excuse. If he thought Pardew was the next level then do it sooner surely? Doesn’t strike me as a brilliant master plan.

If they win a cup then it means they have been successful, and presumably it means Short will have achieved an aim.

Don’t get me wrong, I am pretty happy with the progress we have made and obviously our scouting and transfer dealings are better run than theirs. My point is, how much does it matter if we run our club well and buy good players and steadily improve while making a profit-if another club are happy to buy 10 **** players for every 1 quality player and improve their side in a similar way? I’d rather we be where we are, but the mackems look safe, could easily do the double over us and are off to wembley-would they switch their position with ours?

      (Quote)

  51. It’s true – for a SMB over the last 50 years, surviving in they’ll division is a good season, surviving and taking any points off Newcastle is an excuse for a party (opening a second bottle of brain-rot cider), so getting to Wembley as well must be blowing their tiny minds.

  53. I hope they don’t do the double over us tomorrow. I just hope we come out fighting in the first half and get a 2 nil cushion over them. Cabaye should have been replaced. Very poor offers by Ashley and co but we will stay safety in 8th spot which isn’t to bad. Hope De Jong gets off to a good start but well done to Sunderland for getting to the final but City will win it anyway.
