Game On! Hull v Newcastle

Game On at the KC Stadium
Game On at the KC Stadium
Good afternoon all and welcome to this ‘Game On’ article which will cover our trip to Hull today.

A last minute win against Aston Villa last time out stopped the rot for United but only time will tell if that victory was a rare bright spot in what has been a poor 2014 or whether we have genuniely turned the corner.

The big team news ahead of the match for Newcastle is that Fabricio Coloccini will miss the game on compassionate grounds after travelling back to Argentina following a family bereavement. For the rest of the early team news check out the match preview and for full team news check the bottom of this article just after 2pm.

The match is not being broadcast live here in the UK due to the regulation kick-off of 3pm although a few overseas broadcasters are showing the game so if you do happen to come across a reliable stream then please leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

We’ve not beaten Hull since 1998 and they’ve been playing some decent stuff of late although they have struggled in front of their own fans. Although not safe just yet it surely won’t be lomg before Hull can plan for another season in the Premier League. Our job today at least is to make them wait a little longer!

Howay the lads!

Hull: Allan McGregor, Liam Rosenior, Alex Bruce, Curtis Davies, Maynor Figueroa, Elmohamady, David Meyler, Tom Huddlestone, Jake Livermore, Nikica Jelavic, Shane Long

Subs: Steve Harper, James Chester, Robert Koren, George Boyd, Yannick Sagbo, Sone Aluko, Stephen Quinn

Newcastle: Tim Krul; Paul Dummett, Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson, Mathieu Debuchy; Yoan Gouffran, Vurnon Anita, Cheik Tiote, Moussa Sissoko; Luuk de Jong, Loic Remy

  1. Great result and it will be overshadowed by Pardew, I think it may be once too often from him… Joe Kinnear’s out of work I hear 😉

  2. Munich you really are a miserable ***** today aren’t you.

lighten up we just won 4-1 it is supposed to make you happy.

  3. With Pardew he must be very on edge to do something like that. He’s had problems before but not like this one.

  4. Wer’re on 43 points now and have shifted our goal difference to -2. Headed in the right direction. Would like to see De Jong get one very soon.

  5. Pardew reaction
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew: “It was a heat of the moment thing. I massively regret it and I will have to sit down from now on.

“Of course, I didn’t mean to do anything aggressive. I did move my head forward and that’s enough.

“Perhaps I need to sit down from now on. It’s a shame beacons it’s taken the gloss off a terrific performance.

“Of course I apologise. I represent a big club.”

  6. De Jong and Remy looked good today as expected. Tiote and Anita excellent. Debuchy great as usual

Can’t be lives the English press would over dramatize the pards thing. I’m shocked, shocked I tell ya:)

      (Quote)

  7. A contrite Pards in sky interview ,trouble is as he said himself that’s 3 poor situations he’s been in now :oops Would love to know why a shove provoked him that much ,can’t help wonder if owt was said by Meyer too.

  8. It’s started already
Peter: Alan Pardew punishment must be the most extreme. Player violence is unacceptable manager violence is intolerable!

Max: There was talk of Pardew becoming a England manager one day. Not much chance of that now.

Luke: Pardew deserves the sack for that. I remember him laughing off pushing a linesman last season. Can’t laugh this one off.

  9. I thought that was a decent performance. OK they had some chances first half but we totally dominated midfield and some great passing to keep the ball. DeJong had some good touches and nice flick ons for Remy. He isn’t bad on the deck either. Too early to tell for sure but once he is up to PL pace I think he will be decent.

Debuchy and Sissoko were immense and thought Yanga did OK. Anita also had a great game alongside Tiote. Dummet is a much better defender than Santon and put in some good crosses.

Pards was a bit stupid and Krul’s **** up for their goal were the only downsides.

We have more points away from home than at home apparently 😯

  10. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew: “I tried to push him away with my head and I shouldn’t have done that. My team were terrific and it’s only myself who had a poor performance.”

  11. BB- what drama queens. It’s an emotional sport and **** happens.

He’ll deservedly get a long suspension for that but let’s not go nuts here. Jeez

      (Quote)

  12. It makes sense that he tried to ‘push him away with his head’ because he had his hands in his pockets.
    Dafty

      (Quote)

  13. lmao that is mental 😆

    3 game ban at most.

Lets hope Liverpool give Southampton a good humping here to give us a bit of breathing room.

  14. Santii you old tart. I’m ecstatic that we won 4-1.

It’s not my fault you’ve never played football and don’t recognise a poor team when you see one. Two dreadful teams, a poor ref, and a great win for the toon 🙂

Maybe it’s the German side of me, but there were so many mistakes today it was laughable.

    I aint miserable mate, I’m ecstatic after a 1-4 away win……. but critical 🙂

You do know that Remy and De Jong, our strike force, don’t belong to us ?

      (Quote)

  15. Why did he push Pards anyway, that’s what I wanna know, lets not forget the lad did get a yellow.

      (Quote)

  16. FSOTC-I know I would, unfortunately Pardew will be slaughtered and the same ones that blame him for Original Sin will probably complain about it for the next three years.

He needs to apologise and accept his ban, but Meyler only got a yellow and started it anyway, so he should really be further punished in kind. He won’t be though.

      (Quote)

  17. I can’t name MOTM really it’s a tough choice. Anita’s goal may have given him the nod, it’s certainly one of his best performances, but lets not forget two goals from Sissoko and if Remy hadn’t ****** about he’d likely have had the match ball. He was really good throughout the match. So between Anita, Siss and Tiote for me.

      (Quote)

  18. Happy for the team. Pardew will take his medicine. He probably should sit anyway as he seems too easily provoked standing on the sideline.

      (Quote)

  19. Players get three matches for such indiscretions. If pards gets any more than that it’s a complete joke. Especially considering he didn’t start it.

Surely the unproked shoving of a manager is worthy of a ban as well

      (Quote)

  20. Newkie…That’s the problem, he will and already is getting slaughtered the FA will play up to the media so I can’t see him getting less than a 5 game ban 🙄

      (Quote)

  21. Newkie, 3 game ban I expect ,FA hate us anyway.

Nice interview from Bruce on Sky then ,didn’t make a big deal of it.

      (Quote)

  22. Nobody was hurt really. Isn’t that the most important thing. If he’d knocked Meylor out or cut him then a severe ban is deserved but this is fairly minor surely?

      (Quote)

  23. The yellow card has saved meyler’s skin. I don’t think he can get any retrospective ban because of it.

      (Quote)

  24. Pards actions ,will probably put us last up on MOTD as it’s a way to keep folk tuned into the end of prog. 🙄

      (Quote)

  25. Pardew has already been warned about his conduct from the FA
So I reckon 5 match ban is on the cards.
It wont be a problem really tho.

Will Mike Ashley think this Pardew nut is the perfect chance to save cash on the six remaining years of his contract? #sacked? #nufc

    Andy Kerr ‏@AndyKerrtv 27m

Graeme Souness and Alan Shearer on beIN Sports. Both say that Pardew’s headbutt on Meyler is grounds for #nufc to fire the manager tonight

Twitter spreading Pardew might be sacked. 😯

      (Quote)

  27. BB i don’t think the ban increases i think the fine that comes with it does though i am not a 100% but if that stupid incident gets a 5 game ban i will be shocked though.

      (Quote)

  28. AOD, won’t happen mate, mike has the perfect patsy in Pards but it does make a mockery of the whole family day out thing the club are trying to push when the manager reacts like that. All the same there is no need for witch hunt over it imo, just put it down to a lack of class on his part, no one got hurt .

      (Quote)

  29. Former Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton

“Seen Pardew incident. As per usual. Massively over-hyped…

“Got a lot of time for Pardew. Regardless of what I think, he is a top manager. One of the best I’ve worked with. Don’t let a couple of stupid incidents detract from the job he has done at Newcastle. Especially with what goes on behind the scenes there.”

      (Quote)

  30. AOD
They’re both just bitter that they so spectacularly flopped at managing here.

      (Quote)

  31. lolling at Pards. When he’s not nutting in player’s wives, he’s nutting players

      (Quote)

  32. I doubt anyone would have been able to lift that team completely drained of confidence with just 8 games to go so hardly a spectacular flop, more of a case of being on a hiding to nothing I’d say.
…and by the way the only one I saw saying Pards should be sacked was only Souness 😉

      (Quote)

  33. Santii…Souness said both really, Shearer said that he might have difficulty telling players they shouldn’t be doing this and that when he does it himself.

      (Quote)

  34. Finally some sense out of Joey Bartons mouth!!.

Look Pardew got caught up in the heat of the moment (again). He was absolutely provoked but his post match comments he has held his hands up and makes no excuses.
His haters will dine out on this all week and why not hey?, it’s not like we have a 4-1 away win to talk about or anything like that is it? 🙄

When Remy did it afew weeks ago we all agreed that he should have got his ban overturned – Pardew has done it and he deserves the fucking sack, aye ok then 🙄

      (Quote)

  35. Exactly right Sharpy. There may be some valid reasons to sack Pardew but that handbags stuff isn’t one. If he had decked the lad with a proper Shieldfield nod then that might be different

      (Quote)

  36. Sharpy…I haven’t read through all the comments but are there many on here calling for Pard’s to be sacked? and we certainly didn’t all agree that Remy’s ban should be overturned..maybe all “hoped” it would be 😉
I do think he’ll get a hefty ban due to the media witch hunt and for all it was the same movement of the head as Remy’s I do think it’s a big difference for a manager to do it as opposed to a player so the two incidents don’t really compare imo.

      (Quote)

  37. Richie/Kim-Aye think it will be a 5 match ban myself. The media are in hysteria, if it was Mourinho or SAF it would probably have been laughed off as “character” 😆

      (Quote)

  38. MM… 😆 It just needs Saylor in the background doing his “shot by a sniper” impersonation 😆

      (Quote)

  39. Sharpy-aye it does make me laugh. How many of our players have done similar including Shearer? But when the manager does it it’s hysteria and shows what a bad human being he is etc etc. You can say all you want about making an example, but when we have footballers who are proven racists, cheats, liars, bite and spit at fellow professionals well I can’t help but feel this is a really minor incident.

Kids watching the game don’t want to grow up to be managers, they aren’t influenced by them. They are influenced by people like Suarez, Terry, Diouf among other players who happen to be good pros. And most managers can’t even hope to control the big egos of the game like Suarez, but they are required to play them because of their skill.

      (Quote)

  40. I for one am going to stand by our manager as the nonsense and viterol from the press and pundits come his way. Chin up, Alan!

      (Quote)

  41. Would’ve been interesting to see what the punishment had been had Pardew not reacted. Meyler shoved a manager. Sure Pardew responded and should be punished but that shouldn’t excuse the initial misdemeanor? 😕

      (Quote)

  42. I find the whole thing laughable.

A witch hunt is exactly what it has turned into.

The only reason it has annoyed me so much is we were 1-3 up and it was totally unnecessary to be so agitated by some pillock pushing you.

Still the legend continues pussyhound bad-*** 😆 😆

Steve Bruce earned a little respect from me with the way he handled it and after a 1-4 loss it would be so easy for him to stick the boot in.

Great display in how effective counter attacking football should be played. lovely away win.

Cabaye who?…. Is that our biggest win (under Pardew) with equal number of players on the pitch at the end?

      (Quote)

  43. Kim/Richie – I’m just annoyed that most of the post match comments have been about a moment of madness from Pardew and few have been about a very good performance from Newcastle and an excellent away result.
Richie – the comments may not be here yet but that’s only coz the Pardew haters are busy sharpening their knives mate 😉

      (Quote)

  44. Newkie 😛

Solano…I suspect probably nowt, you see it sometimes when a manager grabs or traps a ball that’s gone out of play and an opposition player will grab it or push them off it. Nowt in it really, the hysteria is well over the top but Pards as manager should have known better to react and it’s a shame because the talk should be about getting a good 4-1 win…it’s never dull at the Toon.

      (Quote)

  45. Richie I dont care what Ice says your not completely stupid 😉
On Pards I do think he fuked up big style, in a way I like the fact that he shows passion etc but as a manager he should be setting an example to the players

      (Quote)

  46. All good – let the focus be on the stupid headbutt, not the fact that the squad have found a way to play together. The most likely reaction with the players is to further up their game for the group and the manager. Upwards!

      (Quote)

  47. Sharpy we still miss cabaye as we have had to clearly change the way we play. But as I said when everyone was flipping out during the losing streak, wed be fine when remy and tiote returned.

      (Quote)

  48. Newkie – Aye Shearer was nee angel, and Souness had his moments as a manager as well!.

As for the game. I called that team yesterday and fancied it to do well. I thought apart from a couple of occasions we looked very good. I can’t say who was man of the match today coz there was no real stand out player for me today – I thought it was a good all round performance.

      (Quote)

  49. -Pards just needs to engage Brain a little more often before acting really, it lacked class and has spoiled our result as the headlines will be about him now 🙁 Ah well as Richie said it’s never dull that’s for sure. 🙄

      (Quote)

  50. Spot on Richie. He shouldn’t have reacted but the feckin media will blow this up out of all proportion. Thought the lads played really well today. Wasn’t expecting more than a draw but thought we pretty much bossed it..

      (Quote)

  51. Looking forward to motd tonight i think with all the drama in our game we are guaranteed to be first on.

      (Quote)

  52. 3Hours agree ,we were defo the better side today, classic counter attacking play, most enjoyable. 😎

      (Quote)

  53. 3HW… Aye I thought we played well and enjoyed watching more than I have for a while.
I thought Tiote and Anita were great and pretty much controlled midfield and loved seeing how much that goal meant to Anita. De Jong played well too as did Debuchy, Sissoko and Gouffran…. **** it, they all did well, hard to find a negative after a 1-4 win….unless the manager did something stupid though I didn’t notice owt, did you? 😆

      (Quote)

  54. Kim Sunderland are usually last on motd 😀 are you telling me they put them there to keep people tuned in 😆 😆

Richie i agree its hard to pick a negative out of the players Tim Krul made one howler but with a world class double save and a few other good moments i would still say he had a decent game. Even Gosling at the end did ok. It was him that made that nice run into the box that got Anita the goal wasn’t it.
