Game On! Newcastle v Everton

Game On at St James' Park
Game On at St James’ Park
Tonight it’s the visit of Everton we’re covering, and you can catch and contribute to all the immediate action and reaction here in this very article.

A second home game in succession will leave United fans hopeful of a second win in succession against a strong Everton side who have their eyes on a late run at the Champions League spaces.

However, as I said in my match preview (online here, a win for United would close the gap on Everton which could catapult us into contention for a late charge at that final Europa League space. Not that the club would find it worthwhile but still…

If you’ve used the link in the last paragraph to have a nosey at the match preview then good on you. If you haven’t, do so, because it’s full of injury news for both sides, some waffle about the season to date, a look at the history of the fixture and some stats and facts thrown in for good measure.

Our game is once again not being shown live here in the UK. For some reason the media are preoccupied with two teams from Manchester who also go head-to-head this evening. However the good news is that our friends overseas are broadcasting the game so hopefully picking up a stream shouldn’t be too much of an issue and those unable to go to the game in person can still watch it. There are usually some links posted in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be available roughly one hour prior to kick-off and is usually posted in the comments before we can get it published fully so if you’re not twitterised and can’t get it off there take a look below. We will of course update it the site as soon as possible.

That neatly wraps it up and covers all my bases so now it’s up to you guys and girls to dissect the team news, the match and anything that may come to pass as and when it happens. I’m working so have fun.

Howay the lads!

  1. Kim – my reply was going to be, it’s a tough job being a parent but the good days make it all worth while. But thinking it through, I would think I have it easy in comparison to be fair.
Ryan is a little hand full at times but he’s a great kid and had his mam in tears today (the soft *****!).
It put last nights game into context though 😉

  2. Troy , last week when talking to the press Pards was saying that him ,carr and Charney were putting forward the names of the players they wanted in. It’s also been reported that there will be no DOF brought in just a finance guy to oversee transfer fees in and out and that the three amigos I mentioned will have say on players coming in.

  3. Sharpy, every parent faces their own challenges, I know plenty of folk who have far more problems than I do poor sods. Kids into drugs, gangs and what have you , it’s your worst nightmare and thankfully one I will never face with Lewis ,I take big comfort in that much.

  4. Troy – aye, I couldn’t imagine missing those Entertainers years mate. I had a few canny derby day battles with me dad as well. Freekicks from O’Brien and Scott Sellars spring to mind.

  5. This Scum v L/POOL game is pretty good viewing actually, better than our show last night 🙄 😳

  6. Sharpy , I did love us under KK first time round, wonderful times ,if only we could recapture them times eh. 😎

  7. Kim – aye, Ryan is only 5 at the moment so the difficult years are ahead I reckon. He’s a great kid though and we’re a tight family so fingers crossed.

Re the KK years, hopefully one day we could get close to something like those days. There has to be a buyer out there somewhere who wants to make us great again.

I’m absolutely lost with Ashley. He has made such a big thing of having a DoF since he took over and now that he has appointed countless clueless dopes he decides he doesn’t need them.

He flabbergasts me at how haphazard he is. He seems to go through things by trial and error.

Anyway, we still owe Ashley £129m, more than when he took over, the commercial revenue is less than when he took over, we have a paper thin squad and we now discover he’s trying to sell the only bit land the club own which will restrict the expansion of the ground forever.

How is there anybody who rates the fat *******?

He’s solely survived turmoil by the TV deal bailing him out. Freddy Shepherd could have done a better job.

      (Quote)

  9. Troy ,totally agree mate ,good business man he may be but he is utterly clueless when dealing in football other than driving a hard bargain and even then we seem to give up if we can’t get them silly cheap 👿

Ice ,Yep I like Don Williams, I try Lew on different music every night, he had Debussy last night , a big fav of mine, Clair De lune is beautiful ,I will have it at my funeral along with some Muse, and Radiohead 😉

  10. Kim – is that why we’re missing a right back?, is he off making another album? 😛
James Taylor for me. The bloke is a legend.

  11. Sharpy Ha ha good one. Seriously try it on your lad if he can’t ever sleep it’s so soothing and melodic .

  12. Sharpy ,Yeah good call, I love all music there isn’t much I don’t like tbh , Bowie is my all time hero though , I would have a terrible time on desert Island disc trying to pick just 10 tracks 🙄

  13. I will stop now before I’m told off for trying to turn the blog into a music/health site 😆 Anyway Carlitos way is on itv4, too good to miss 😎 Al Pacino swoon 😀

  14. lol the bullshit has started early. Lukaku? 😯 😆

Pardew admitted watching S Long for a couple of seasons but we failed to sort that out. Failed on every forward we’ve went for since Cisse although we’ve lost Best, Ba, Loven & Ranger and seem only interested in loan players.

We’ll sniff around for a few months, show the fans we’re “in business” then offer him 55k per week.

Pardew hasnt exactly said we’re in for him but his soundbites are typical puppet-boy tactics

  15. Mark – at no point there does he say that we are in for him. It’s the headline that misleads you, but Pardew is not trying to suggest anything other than Everton will struggle to land him on a permanent deal – as we will with Remy.
If anything he is sympathising with Everton and reiterating our desire to sign Remy.
Don’t let the headlines fool you mate. They are designed to sell papers 😉

      (Quote)

  16. @Sharpy.

I wont mate, I did add he hadn’t said we were in for him but if he was asked whether we would be interested in him, why not just say no, we have no ambition and can’t even afford to let Shola go 😆 instead of answering in a way that could indicate we are interested…

      (Quote)

  17. Mark – I’m sure he is interested in him mate. Probably in the same way I’m interested in owning an Aston Martin 😆
I think if he could have Lukaku or Remy, he’d opt for Remy though.

      (Quote)

  18. Sharpy – Krul is like half our team – they need a break. The energy is gone from Gouffran, Anita and Sissoko. Several others never had any and some of them Krul included have had really poor seasons.

I too went to all the games during Ossie’s season. Exciting to see all those young Geordie kids but the emotions of seeing them lose so many were hard to take. Had nightmares when Obrien put through his own goal to lose 4-3 to Charlton 😳

      (Quote)

  19. Mark,

With you there. Anyone who thinks there is the remotest possibility of Lukaku coming here is in need mental therapy.

    Not a chance in hell.

      (Quote)

  20. Georgio – yeah I agree. Gouffran in particular looks totally burnt out. The other problem is that we have a bench of players who know the club don’t want them.

      (Quote)

  21. How irritating was it to see Harper coming on for Hull and looking so calm and solid, Exactly what we could do with now Kruls injured.

An injury to Elliott and were left with two keepers who havent even made their debuts yet

      (Quote)

  22. Sissoko has to be one of the biggest let downs for me in terms of lack of consistency and ability to win games.

He burst on the scene with a great debut and had a top reputation. He hasn’t done much since.

      (Quote)

  23. @Troy.

How many players over the years have done that tho. It may be down to our coaching ability or lack of and your bezzy Pards tactics. 😀

      (Quote)

  24. Troy I want Ashley to hire more coaching staff and get a permanent replacement for Ba and Cabaye but I will be waiting forever. Ashley moves as fast as a slug when it comes to improving the side. Just when you think Ashley can’t get any worse he still surprises you.

      (Quote)

  25. Troy – Sissoko has been a disappointment for me to mate. I had him down as a bit of a Michael Essien type player (when he first arrived at Chelsea). I expected our midfield to be one of the best in the league with him in it – but it really hasn’t happened that way at all.
Maybe he still hasn’t settled yet, or maybe the disruption of Cabaye leaving and an unsettled midfield has meant he has struggled, or maybe he isn’t as good as I credited him being.

I’d hope to see more from him next season though.

      (Quote)

  26. @sharpy. maybe asking our players to play back more than they do forward has effected his game. V Everton and many other teams we play it back from our midfield far too much. Everton on the other hand like to play forward. Its the typical Pardew approach.. keep it tight, bore the **** out of them.

Not sure if we’ve won a game after conceding first this season..

      (Quote)

  27. Sharpy/Troy – I could be wrong but I can only remember one game he’s played in his correct position. The genius has had him at No 10 and mostly as a winger. But don’t worry he’s now back to give his team talk. How long does it take to say hoof it a lot and above all make sure we’re boring.

Statistically still fourth in the least long balls this season. Villa, Southampton and Everton lead the way in terms of the most per game. I’m not sure how much our lack of ability going forward is to tactics or to a lack of/wrong personnel. To be honest since Cabs has gone it seems to be Tiote who is dictating the player in their half. What a joke that it is dependent on him, he may have poor games often but I don’t think he shirks or just hides during a game like some of our others. We need more creative players in the team. Anita, Sissoko and Tiote might have one or two through balls per game between them, Sissoko did a decent one against Everton if I recall. That’s it. There is no creativity from Cisse or De Jong with back to goal, Goof’s passing is very average and he relies on his pace to get past people, and it’s apparent that he’s not the season-long workhorse that Jonas used to be, he can handle a half season of pure graft and then he’s done-which means we will either need to sub him regularly at 60 mins to use him all season or we need a proper winger to take over and give the boy a rest. Who are our right wingers again? Sammy and……

We should have scored first against Everton, their remaining goals came from counter attacks. They never hemmed us all in our own half and broke us down-they didn’t need to as the away side I suppose. But we are constantly in the position where we have the opposition in their half or even their box (Palace) but don’t have the creativity to break them down. We absolutely must buy a midfielder or number ten who can do this. We also need to buy a set piece specialist because our dead balls are a joke and have been since Barton left-and as we showed vs Everton they are actually more an opportunity for the opposition to attack us than they are for us to attack them.

      (Quote)

  29. Georgio-he’s probably not played that much at DM because that is also the position of our only other central mids-Tiote and Anita as well as Bigi. Equally when he played there a few times last season I seem to remember hearing from fans his best position was no.10…it seems to vary and depend on where he currently isn’t playing…

I don’t think he’s been too bad to be honest. He is still young. I think his problem playing in the middle is the lack of nous to play there, countless times he will rush forward only to knock the ball too far into the opposition centre backs or holding mids, it happens all the time. Is it his touch or his brain? I think he is decent out on the right and should focus on either smashing the ball across the 6 yard box or cutting back to one of our players in space-this used to be cabaye and worked nicely however nobody else matches his shooting from distance. Tiote must try five to ten long shots a match, Anita doesn’t seem to fancy it.

      (Quote)

  30. Newkie – can’t help but notice, no mention of HBA in your analysis. Written him off mate? On Sissoko – he looks a fine central mid when played for France. Hate to mention the term again – Pardewed.

      (Quote)

  31. Georgio-I actually still like hatem and feel he has a bit more to offer than most on here seem to think of him. However given the fact he has yet to receive a contract extension I am assuming the worst and think he will be off in the summer. I would much rather him play than De Jong, he’s only had a few opportunities at number ten or as a false nine.

Some mentioned it yesterday and I did in the Palace match-players don’t seem to be passing to him as often. I’m not sure if that is the plan i.e only give the ball to hatem in a dangerous position otherwise he might try too much? Or are players tired of him not returning the ball as many became with Cisse? Has he told them he’s off? I really don’t know.

      (Quote)

  32. Newks ,yep it was me mentioned it about Benny , I’m sure something is amiss there mate. There were defo some not passing when they should have. As you say is that on orders or are they just pissed off with him trying to do it all alone 😕 . Got to say though on Saturday he was keeping his head up more and looking to make a good pass ,which he did for Cisse’s goal and you would like to think his team mates could at least acknowledge that much.

      (Quote)

  33. Is anybody else as happy as Mike is with our current form? He’s not really aware about the part where it’s generally good to put the ball in the opposing team’s onion bag though. I’ll have a word with him mates, not to worry.

      (Quote)

  34. Kim – I havent noticed the not passing to him but what I did see was him making 3 great chances against Palace and another brilliant one against Everton. A survey at The Mag had 89% of fans wanting him in the team.
Pardew’s an idiot from the 80s.

  37. Reading Newcastle mad blog, the author saying he was talking to a friend of Ashley at the Everton game, and Ashley knows the fans don’t like him,but Ashley does not like the fans and has no interest in taking the club forward but are a nice board for his SD company, now tell us something we don’t know

  38. Ice ,Well there you are, just as I have long thought now tbh. Just wish the fat **** would do one tbh. 👿

  40. Man oh man oh man. If I read another Chronicle article trying to big up or shake up De Jong, then I think I’ll freak out.

The bloke is a one paced powder puff of a striker. Get him out of the toon please, PDQ. The bloke is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. How many way can you dress this up ?. 👿 👿 👿 👿

      (Quote)

  41. Yeah Ice ,that one been doing the rounds for yonks now, but as you say no one knows what his next move will be . If he hates us and the club that much just sell up ,there can’t possibly be any pleasure in owning us on those terms. We keep hearing from people on here that SD don’t get that much profit from us advertising them, so in that case why doesn’t he sell up I say. 😕

      (Quote)

  42. Kimmy, you could kind of say that, yeah 🙂

He’s an Andreas Anderson, Guivarch kind of striker. If there is one thing I hate is a centre forward who actually shrinks when he goes for a high ball. I have watched the bloke at BMG, he is useless. 😆

      (Quote)

  43. MM , I hate to write a player off too quickly and initially I thought he linked up well with Remy and did some intelligent runs/passes but last two games he’s looked poor. I bow to your greater knowledge of the guy, he’s never gonna get us 15 a season that’s for sure from what little I have seen like. 🙁 Hopefully not another Obatoon 🙄

      (Quote)

  44. Kimtoon, I don’t want you to turn off the bloke, but in my opinion he is a typical case of slipping standards at NUFC. He is one of those players that you can get in cheaply, but really he just aint very good and drags the quality of the team down. We have a few of them at the toon at the moment.

      (Quote)

  45. MM its a lot of cash,I tend not to judge players from abroad to quickly, normally you can see summit in a player that will come out when settled in,but in Jong case I see no pace in the lad to build on,for 8mil I would like to see a bit pace otherwise forget thePL as a striker

      (Quote)

  46. 1st of all, shame on you Ice for even reading that 😉 2nd Ashley hasn’t got any fekn friends and 3rd even if he did have any they’re hardly likely to go talking to someone from an Nufc fans site. I’m not saying that what was said there about Ashley isn’t true but as for a mate of Ashley’s talking to the author of that article well, I call bullshit

      (Quote)

  47. Of coarse if your 6.5in tall and have a manager that likes to hoof the the ball up to hoping for knock downs/on that’s a diff storey

  48. Icedog, you don’t get much for 6-8 mill these days mate 🙁 But De Jong is a no-no for me like. Trust me mate 🙂

      (Quote)

  49. Icedog, De Jong get’s shorter when he jumps. I hate powder puff strikers who don’t like getting there hair messed up.

      (Quote)

  50. RICHIE didn’t say it was a true storey (he must think so) but just passing on what another blog is writing about, like all “storeys”you take your own views on it mate,in my case I never stop dreaming jabba will feek off

      (Quote)

  51. Some of the things Pardew is coming out with really aren’t endearing him to supporters. I do wish he’d keep him mouth shut!

      (Quote)

  52. Buddy @ 351
That first article is the best, fairest piece I’ve read on us all season.
Pardew in terms of league position is doing probably all that is to be expected given our squad and Cabaye leaving. However what he can be doing is making it a lot more enjoyable on a weekly basis.
Too many times we have just looked devoid of desire (even when we did have something to play for), the number of times we have failed to score is nothing short than unacceptable.
No Cisse isn’t on form, de Jong hasn’t found his feet and the midfield isn’t insanely creative – but 2 goals in 7 home games 😕 There are teams with much worse attacks than us that do better.
I still believe he is the only man for the job under Ashley as I have no confidence that a better replacement would be brought in, and he brings solidity to the dressing room despite our disastrous, eternally turbulent ship, but he needs to start picking things up otherwise he is just as much to blame for the unenjoyable times as Ashley.

      (Quote)

  53. How much is the TV boost this year?
Would people take two more seasons of the bare minimum (just a couple of loan signings in the transfer windows), if it meant being debt free in two years with Ashley selling up ❓

      (Quote)

  54. Solano-I would take Ashley out in two years in a heartbeat, the problem is would our squad accept that? We might be in a decent financial position if Ashley leaves but if we’re only just scraping by I imagine most of our decent players will be gone. The new owner will need to do heavy investment to rebuild.

That’s if we even survive. No question that we should-however when you consider southampton have spent near 70 million over the last two seasons (How is their squad value so low btw ❓ 😕 ) then will we really be able to keep pace in two or three years if all teams are doing the same?

We’re not going to loan another striker of remy’s calibre again. If there is no investment up front we are buggered.
