Game On! Southampton v Newcastle

Game On at St Mary's
Game On at St Mary’s
North travels South today as two teams from opposing ends of the country face each other at St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon.

The difference in geographical location is however a complete opposite when you look at the close proximity of these two sides in the league table.

Realistically one of us is going to finish 8th and one of us is going to finish 9th. It’s just a matter of who finishes above the other and I get the feeling that the game this afternoon will have a rather large bearing on the answer to that particular question come the end of the season.

Later than I would have liked, but last night I did indeed publish a match preview which can be viewed here. It details a history of the fixture, news of injury concerns from both sides, some stats and some associated waffling so take a look if you haven’t already done so.

You all know the drill with regard to live TV transmission of kick-off at this time here in the UK so once again a lot of people will be looking for streams. The good news is that some overseas channels are showing the game so finding a stream shouldn’t be too much of an issue. You can find links in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be added in below as and when I can get to it but it shouldn’t be too much after 2pm although someone will always post it in the comments far quicker than my ageing hands can get around a keyboard.

Howay the lads!

  1. CC@749, you could be onto something there mate. Pardew needs to perhaps bring in some new coaching methods to move the club forward, because it seems to be a recurring theme that Pardew seems to have the players on his side, it’s just his tactics are poor at times.

  2. Munich

Hes been saddled working with Stone who was only promoted because the owner was being a snidey **** and blocking Hughtons attempts to bring in an assistant manager and Carver who was a cheap and cheerful option after his first choices fell through.

If Ashley doesnt want to change manager, He has to change some members of staff or the same problems will be there again next season regardless of who they sign in the summer…

  3. CC, totally agree, we need a shake up on the coaching side for sure. Considering Pards works most the week on defensive coaching according to Carver it isn’t having that good an effect . How many times have we conceded 3 or more goals in a game this season , well 9 times actually 🙁

  4. Unlike some others on here who claim Pardew has lost the dressing room, I’ve always maintained his main strength is keeping the players happy and a good team spirit.

If you can do that when your best players get sold then it’s a great asset.

I wish some could recognise this. 🙄

  5. Kim-I agree, like I say, the squad have been on their holiday since Cabaye was sold and not replaced. That signalled the end of the season pretty much as far as they are concerned, what’s to play for? I’d like them to play for pride but we all know most of them aren’t all that bothered about the toon in their hearts.

At the same time, if you’re going to excuse the squad from it because there’s nothing to play for then surely the same applies to Pardew and the coaching staff? Doesn’t make much difference for them really does it? I bet they only get rewarded for top 10 with **** all else for achieving anything else, maybe champions league or europe would give them a bonus but 8th place over 9th?..It shouldn’t be that way for either set but it is…and it comes back to the sale of Cabaye and the fumbling fatman.

  6. CC-Totally agree with you there mate. We desperately need to add to our coaching staff or replace a few, we’ve been so fucking cheap about it. Stone was promoted because of success with the youth sides. No offense but what fucking success was that then ❓ ❗ How many are playing for us regularly now? Such a joke.

  7. Kim-when we concede a few we tend to collapse in on ourselves. However equally we are well capable of putting in solid defensive shifts, we’ve had several impressive clean sheets.

is it defensive coaching or just a lack of leadership and will to turn a game around? We had one of the best come backs in the PL with that Arsenal 4-4 match. But I think we’ve lost a lot of the fight (literally) from then with the loss of Barton and Nolan. Tiote has it but does Colo? Is Colo really captain material? He doesn’t even want to be here…

  8. Newkie, Colo looks a thousand miles away to me mate, Pards needs to give the armband to Tiote permanently now how ever difficult it might be to do.

  9. Kim-yeah, it’s always a difficult situation because you can split the dressing room. I would have thought Jonas and Santon would have been the most “pro Colo” but with Jonas out the door hopefully it shouldn’t be too bad. I can’t imagine Colo wanting to hang around much longer anyway, but equally it’s a shame to let him just walk because he probably has a few years left, especially if he went to Italy. No question Tiote is the man to take over though.

  10. Newkie , I really think Colo will go in the summer, I just can’t see him hanging around .

  11. just a quick question….. is the club/staff/players actually doing anything right at all? 😉

  12. On Pardew spouting **** all the time… what do expect is going to happen when he has Troy Stavers as his speech writer/technical adviser! 😆 😆 😛

  13. Aussie I doubt Pardew does any training now we have 46 points and safe from relegation.

Know that Joe’s gone he can relax and go back to his lazy ways that nearly got us relegated last season. He has no one spying on him so can get away with being a **** manager ( sorry for using the word **** when it comes to Pardew). His got the ultimate excuse that he didn’t get a replacement for Cabaye. Which is basically saying the team can’t win without him which is a **** attitude ( apologise again). So I can’t utilise the squad and play to there strengths ( **** formation’s)

Pardew’s a **** manager with lame *** excuses. Get the best out of Obertan you bought him.

  14. I know Pardew’s our manager and I shouldn’t call him **** but he is and he makes the club look **** as well.

  15. Fair call Stem, I don’t think they train either… apparently they just all rock up and play pac-man for a few hours then they go home!

  16. That’s it , Pards new nick name Pac-Man ,since that’s the era he is stuck in . Good old 1980’s 😉

  17. Good job he has his 4 power pellets to get him out of trouble, Benny, Cisse, Marv and Remy when his Enemies Jabba, the press, opo managers tactics and opo players pushing him , otherwise known as Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde come calling 😉

  18. KIM@771 aye read that mate, makes me sick how they could treat any disabled person and a kid too like that they are shaming our club

  19. Ice/Kim – just another own goal from a cheap nasty regime. Other fans all over the country have us as a laughing stock/circus now. Permanently. Blood boiling again.

Some good words from Tiote. For me he has to be captain, I think we could let Colo go (maybe force him to pay a bit of his contract?) and then try and sign a top quality striker, we’ll have Remy’s 75k and Colo’s 80k and avaliable plus the other outgoings, that should bring in some real quality.

I’d say he’s been our best midfielder this season, and to think 12 or even 8 months ago people wanted him sold…

Surely picks itself unless the chrons talk of Gosling and De Jongs last hurrahs actually come off 🙄

  22. CC – you think he’ll actually play Benny and Marv together. No chance! De Jog will be in there to add the lumbering factor and probably Gosling too. Muppet Toon 🙄

  23. Nope just think that is the obvious 11 we should go with considering the players we have available.

I expect Ben Arfa to be on the bench at best and Marveaux probably wont even get that
